π‘ #OTD 22 years ago, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (#SCO) was founded - a multilateral association aimed at ensuring peace, security and stability and jointly countering new security challenges and threats to member states.
Today, the SCO is made up of eight countries: its founding members β Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan β as well as India and Pakistan, which joined in 2017. Iran is also expected to become a full SCO member at the upcoming summit (July 3-4, New Delhi).
In June 2002, the organisation's member states signed the Treaty on Long-Term Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation that cemented the SCO's focus on the positive promotion of multidimensional cooperation and its non-targeting of third countries and organisations. Today the SCO continues to firmly rule out bloc, ideological and confrontational approaches to solving international and regional development problems.
π€ One of the most important areas of SCO activity is joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and transnational organised crime. The SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure operates in Tashkent on a permanent basis to ensure effective cooperation between the competent authorities of the member states in these areas.
π The SCO's legal framework for relations with the United Nations and its agencies continues to expand. Partnerships have been established with the #CIS, #CSTO, #EEC, #ASEAN and a number of other multilateral associations that share similar principles of constructive development.

π₯ Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovβs interview with RT TV Channel on the sidelines of the 26th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (St Petersburg, June 16, 2023)
Key talking points:
πΉ We can no longer rely on the promises and the agreements signed with the West which were presented as a foundation for developing constructive partnership. <...> The West has βlostβ Russia at this point of history.
πΉ The dominant trend today is the awareness of the need to regionalise the development processes. This includes the #SCO and, in a wider sense, the Greater Eurasian Partnership, which President Vladimir Putin mentioned at the #RussiaASEAN Summit a few years ago.
πΉ The Anglo-Saxons and their ilk are bringing pressure to bear across the board, including on our closest #CSTO allies. The Gulf Arab countries are not an exception. I would say that the Western methods are boorish. I cannot think of another word.
πΉ Our relations with the Africans and our other partners are not based on money. What we are trying to do is identify projects that meet the interests of both sides.
πΉ #BRICS will expand, with the countries representing major Arab, or Islamic civilisation in a broader sense, joining it. This will strengthen the multipolar principles that we are discussing now and that are objectively taking shape.

π·πΊπ§πΎ Today, Belarus, a state linked to Russia by centuries of fraternal friendship and bonds of mutual assistance, is marking Independence Day.
#OnThisDay in 1944, Minsk was liberated from Nazi German invaders and occupants as a result of well-coordinated Red Army operations. Fighting shoulder to shoulder, our nations made a decisive contribution to the Victory over Nazism.
Today, Russian-Belarusian relations are those of strategic partnership and alliance. Together, our countries continue to overcome serious difficulties and defend their interests on the international scene. They collaborate closely in the field of military and military-technical cooperation and in ensuring collective security.
Moscow and Minsk jointly streamline various institutions of the Union State and promote integration projects in the Eurasian region. Our countries voice common or similar positions on many international issues and cooperate closely in the #CSTO, the #EAEU, the #CIS, the #UN, the #OSCE and other international and regional organisations.
π€ We congratulate the fraternal people of Belarus on the national holiday. We wish them well-being and prosperity.

π Joint Statement of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on their shared vision of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century
Common Vision of a Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the XXI century
π¬ We, the representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus proceed from the recognition of the following key realities of our time:
DIVERSITY AS THE WORLD'S FOUNDATION β Diversity in basics of life, civilizations, cultures, traditions, peculiar features of historical development and value systems has been inherent to the world, while the state's formation as the key unit of international relations has given rise to a diversity in forms of political governance and models of domestic social, economic, cultural and humanitarian development that states came to assume. <...>
MULTIPOLARITY ON THE HORIZON β The world's inherent diversity has set it on an inexorable trajectory towards multipolarity. The trend presents an opportunity to build a lasting, fair and inclusive democratic world order underpinned by peaceful coexistence for the sake of ensuring security and full prosperity for all countries based on mutually beneficial cooperation and genuine multilateralism. <...>
IMPORTANCE OF EURASIA β Factors like geographical location, size, population and resource potential have all combined to shape Eurasia in a historical perspective as a vital player in international relations, which still drives global development in general. It is Eurasia that makes a major contribution to sustained growth in the world economy while it is here that independent development centers strengthen their global reach. <...>
βοΈ In this regard we commit ourselves to:
RELY ON INTERNATIONAL LAW β Be guided in our actions by the norms of international law, based on the UN Charter in its both entirety and interrelationship as well as on other international legally binding documents. <...>
CREATE A MULTIPOLAR WORLD β Promote efforts to establish, in a most accelerated manner possible, a multipolar world and a just global order. <...>
STRENGTHEN SECURITY β Build a new pan-continental security cooperation architecture predicated on the principles of indivisible security, justice, legitimacy, sustainability and joint contribution by stakeholders. <...>
MAKE USE OF EURASIAN MECHANISMS β Make use of multilateral cooperation mechanisms operating on the Eurasian continent, including, among others, the #EAEU, #CSTO, #CIS, #SCO, #ASEAN, #CICA, #LAS, #GCC and the #UnionState with regard to cooperation in specific areas, while promoting cross-platform activities and joint initiatives. <...>
π·πΊπ§πΎ We, the representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus invite all Eurasian states to join a dialogue on a whole range of issues that affect principles of cooperation in the multipolar era and that cover a pan-continental architecture of security; cooperation and development with the view to drafting a "Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the XXI Century", while giving due consideration to the provisions set out in this document.
