Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in an exclusive interview on India's semiconductor journey, said the real challenges are yet to come and the industry must be prepared for sabotage and global disruptions.

This is just the foundation, as PM said. Building it was difficult, now bigger global challenges will come. When Apple manufacturing started, there was fake news, electricity wires were cut, and sabotage was attempted by people who don't want India to become a manufacturer. The industry must be prepared for physical sabotage, cyber attacks, fake narratives, and fake news. This is a strategic industry.

#Semiconductor 2.0 Success Metrics 🇮🇳🚀

Semicon 1.0 was a massive success. The metric for success was to secure 3 plants, but India achieved 15 plants.

For Semicon 2.0, focus on building a comprehensive ecosystem around these fabs and ATMP units. We now have six pillars.

💎 Pillar One: Design is the top priority
Scale from 20 to 200 VC-backed deep-tech startups. Momentum is already strong with 25 design patents granted.

⚙️ Pillar Two: Materials and machines
Success will be judged on attracting at least three global equipment and machine manufacturers (including giants from the US, Netherlands, Japan, or South Korea that historically never manufactured outside or left their home countries) to design and build in India. This will allow Indian MSMEs and precision manufacturers to supply components to them.
🧪 Pillar Three: Chemicals & Gases
Bring 5 ultra-pure chemical and gas manufacturers to India to secure the local supply chain.
