LigaPhoto by Roland Krivec/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesIt looks like Josip Stanisic has impressed his bosses.Bayern Munich has a strong corps of young defenders on campus and out on loan.Tanguy Nianzou, Chris Richards, Lars Lukas Mai, Jamie Lawrence, Bright Arrey-Mbi, Remy Vita, and potentially FC Dallas loanee Justin Che are just a few of the names that are often bandied about by fans when looking at Bayern Munich’s future on the backline. One player who has not gotten as much acclaim as some of those names above, but who must be impressing his bosses,is Josip Stanisic.Stansic was called up to the first-team to play a role against Union Berlin was very good during that match. Now, it appears that the Bavarians are eager to show some commitment to the developing 21-year-old. #FCBayern— Maximilian Koch (@Koch_AZ) April 22, 2021On with a youngster: the expiring contract of Josip #Stanisic (21) is to be extended, the latest development pleases both the player side and @FCBayern. Talks are underway. Stanisic last came on for 90 minutes vs. @fcunion as LB. #FCBayernWith Stanisic’s ability to play both center-back and either outside-back position, the youngster offers Bayern Munich great versatility. The rumored signing of Reading FC defender Omar Richards will add yet another body into that mix of young defenders if that comes to fruition as well.It will be interesting to see what happens with Bayern Munich’s defensive depth heading into next season. There will surely be some player movement via sales or loans — along with ensuring that Bayern Munich II has enough quality to make a strong showing in 2021/2022.

FC Barcelona v Bayern München: Group E - UEFA Champions LeaguePhoto by Pedro Salado/Quality Sport Images/Getty ImagesIt will not be easy for Marc Roca or Michael Cuisance to break into the Bayern Munich lineup. Many fans have been left wondering when Marc Roca was going to get a chance to prove himself or if Michael Cuisance was going to have the opportunity to showcase himself to a potential suitor.Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann indicated that the duo is good — and he means it. They just are not good enough to break into Bayern Munich’s game day lineup just yet:#Nagelsmann nach #SGFFCB mit einer klaren Antwort auf die Frage, warum es #Roca und #Cuisance zum zweiten Mal in Folge nicht in den Spieltagskader geschafft haben: „Sie haben nicht schlecht trainiert, aber auch nicht so, dass sie andere hätten verdrängen können.“ #FCBayern— Kerry Hau (@kerry_hau) September 25, 2021#Nagelsmann to #SGFFCB with a clear answer to the question of why #Roca and #Cuisance didn’t make the matchday squad for the second time in a row: “They didn’t train badly, but also not in such a way that they could have displaced others.” #FCBayernWith Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Marcel Sabitzer as the primary options in the central midfield, while Corentin Tolisso, who is currently injured, would also be ahead of Cuisance and Roca on the depth chart. The squad’s versatility also is not helping Cuisance and Roca as Jamal Musiala, Thomas Müller, Tanguy Nianzou, and Josip Stanisic have all played different roles in the central midfield at one point or another as well.
