Woo-Yeong Jeong set to join SC Freiburg on a loan deal

It looks like Bayern Munich’s Woo-Yeong Jeong will soon leave the club for a loan spell with SC Freiburg. The 19-year-old is scheduled to have a medical at some point this week to complete the loan move, per multiple sources who cite Sky Germany:Bayern Munich’s Woo-yeong Jeong will have a medical at Freiburg this week, according to Sky Germany. Believed to be just a loan deal. #FCBayern #SCF— Ronan Murphy (@swearimnotpaul) June 17, 2019Jeong-Woo Yeong @FCBayern wird diese Woche zum Med-Check @scfreiburg erwartet. @SkySportNewsHD @SkySportDE— Torben Hoffmann (@Sky_Torben) June 17, 2019Freiburg’s interest in Jeong was initially reported by kicker, who reported on Jeong’s desire to leave Bayern for consistent minutes at a top flight club. Bayern has insisted on a buy-back clause in the loan deal. Mainz, FC Nürnberg, and even RB Salzburg in Austria had all expressed interest in signing Jeong this year, but Freiburg seem to have won the race in the end. Out of the three, Freiburg might also be the destination where Jeong gets the most minutes in the German top flight, especially given Nürnberg’s relegation to the 2. Liga. Bayern remain keen on keeping Jeong in their plans for the future, despite the fact that the 19-year-old has spent most of his time with Bayern’s reserves. Jeong was on the bench for the senior squad on 5 separate occasions across competitions this season, but made only two brief appearances as a substitute; 4 minutes in Bayern’s 5-1 rout of Borussia Mönchengladbach in the league and 9 minutes in Bayern’s 5-1 win at home over Benfica in the Champions League. By stark contrast, Jeong was a key player for Bayern’s reserves in Regionalliga Bayern, scoring 13 goals and providing 6 assists in 29 appearances en route to their promotion to the 3. Liga. They overturned a 3-1 aggregate deficit against VfL Wolfsburg’s reserves and Jeong provided a key assist to Kwasi Okyere Wriedt for Bayern’s 3rd goal in the impressive 4-1 win that clinched promotion. Hopefully for Bayern, Jeong’s loan spell with Freiburg is successful and he’s able to come back ready to play a part in the first team after some much-needed experience gained.Jeong’s assist occurs around the ‘22 second mark: Grandiose Aufholjagd der <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FCBAmateure?src=…

Opinion: The 10 best Bundesliga transfers during the 2020 summer transfer window
Media Photo by Mario Hommes/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesEnding on Monday, the delayed transfer window saw plenty of exciting Bundesliga transfers. In a strange, albeit relatively eventful transfer window, the Bundesliga clubs were undoubtedly more cautious in their spending due to the unusual circumstances. Leroy Sane was the highest transfer sum paid by a German club while both Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart were the two most active German clubs – both signing seven players. In this post, the 10 best Bundesliga transfers are ranked below. Tomorrow, we will cover the 10 worst transfers. Before you start slaughtering me in the comment section, know that I ranked the transfers from by these rules:1. Quality of player compared to the overall quality of the team2. Price tag3. Importance of signing for the specific teamImportant note: I did not include any loanee signings in both articles (even though there was an option-to-buy clause) so there will be no Douglas Costa or Justin Kluivert.10. Baptiste Santamaria to SC Freiburg for €10 millionBaptiste Santamaria became Freiburg’s record signing of all time when he joined Christian Streich’s men from SCO Angers. Being an undisputed starter for four seasons for the team in the mid-table of Ligue 1, Santamaria is a 25-year-old defensive midfielder. The reason why I include this transfer, without much knowledge of Santamaria whatsoever, is because of my interest in why Christian Streich has invested so much in the French midfielder.Streich and Freiburg’s transfer policy is arguably one of the smartest in Germany. Here are some previous Freiburg transfers which have happened under Streich:Luca Waldschmidt for €5 millionRobin Koch for €4 millionCaglar Söyüncü for €8 millionNils Petersen for €3 millionRoman Bürki for €1.8 millionMax Kruse for €500,000The list goes on. I trust Streich has invested a lot of research into why Santamaria is worth a club-record transfer fee.So glad to finally be here @scfreiburg❗⁣
