Of course, both Bayern and Werner could attempt to wait it out until 2020 for a free transfer, but it is unlikely that Die Roten Bullen will let that happen. Austria v North Macedonia - UEFA Euro 2020: Group CPhoto by Cristi Preda/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesCould this all be a pipedream for Bayern Munich fans?According to German outlet kicker, an agreement between Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Marcel Sabitzer might not be as close as many have hoped.Per the latest news, a move to Säbener Straße is not yet “in sight” for Sabitzer and a commitment has not been “seriously discussed”:Will Marcel Sabitzer and RB Leipzig part ways this summer? The 27-year-old’s contract expires next year, and the Austrian has already turned down an offer to extend it with the same conditions. A salary increase was out of the question for the Leipzig decision-makers in view of the difficult economic conditions caused by the coronavirus, which is why the long-standing player on the team is considered a sales candidate. TSG Hoffenheim v RB Leipzig - BundesligaPhoto by Sebastian Widmann/Getty ImagesRB Leipzig’s struggles this season are apparently too much for the club to live with any longer. According to Sportbuzzer, the club is set to relieve American coach Jesse Marsch of his duties:According to our information, there will be no “business as usual.” Separation from the trainer duo Jesse Marsch / Achim Beierlorzer will take place at short notice. While no official word has been announced as of yet, numerous journalists are running with the story after Die Roten Bullen suffered back-to-back defeats to Bundesliga’s foes Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin. Moreover, RB Leipzig has already been eliminated from the Champions League knockout phase.Fabrizio Romano saw the writing on the wall yesterday:Jesse Marsch job’s in real danger since last week - and now after 3 consecutive Bundesliga defeats, RB Leipzig Head of Soccer Oliver Mintzlaff says to DAZN: “It’s a catastrophic performance”. @RaeComm #RBLeipzig

Marsch inherited a team in transition, which has lost top-end players like Timo Werner, Dayot Upamecano, Marcel Sabitzer, and Ibrahima Konate in the last 18 months.Overall, RB Leipzig is sitting in 11th place of the Bundesliga at the time of this post, but the squad had five wins, three losses, and two draws in its last 10 matches across all competitions.Whatever the case, Marsch is well-regarded and will likely land on his feet somewhere for next season if this news is, indeed, true.

RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund - BundesligaPhoto by Stuart Franklin/Getty ImagesA significant injury blow for Leipzig; will the Bavarians renew their Laimer interest next summer?RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer picked up an injury in his team’s 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last Saturday. The one-time Bayern Munich target and apparent favorite of Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann will now be out for a lengthy spell.Laimer’s absence spells trouble for Die Roten Bullen, who have zero points out of two games in the Champions League group stages so far and face Scottish champions Celtic in their next midweek fixture. The Red Bull outfit have lost to Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk so far — the latter in a shock 1-4 trouncing at home on matchday 1. And one week after their big win over new coach Marco Rose’s previous team Dortmund, they were crushed this Saturday by Rose’s team before that — Borussia Mönchengladbach:#RBL: Konrad Laimer wird @RBLeipzig verletzungsbedingt bis zu sechs Wochen fehlen.— Philipp Hinze (@philipphinze24) September 15, 2022#RBL : Konrad Laimer @RBLeipzig will miss up to six weeks due to injury.Per Reuters, Leipzig clarified that Laimer’s injury is to his ankle ligament:“Konrad Laimer injured his left ligament in the 3-0 home win against Borussia Dortmund last Saturday and will be sidelined for several weeks,” the club said in a statement.Laimer was a hot topic for Bayern in the closing days and weeks of the summer transfer window, but the club’s depth in central midfield has proven sturdy so far this season. Joshua Kimmich is as ever the ironman, and around him, Marcel Sabitzer, Leon Goretzka, and Ryan Gravenberch have all proved their mettle in both attacking and defensive phases of the game.Instead, it’s at defense where a run of injuries has asked questions of squad depth at Bayern. Laimer’s contract still expires in 2023, and he shows no signs of renewing soon for Red Bull — but for now and in the near future, Bayern are poised to turn their attentions elsewhere.Meanwhile, Leipzig will have their own issues to sort out after their shellacking at the hands of Gladbach. The RB club turned down a sizable transfer fee to hold onto their midfield engine for one more season — but their place in the table come January could cause a revised valuation.

Bayern target Simons to sign with Leipzig (@Plettigoal)Bayern Munich executive Max Eberl might already have lost one of his primary transfer targets for the summer transfer window. RB Leipzig was reportedly close to secure a permanent transfer of Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg: BREAKING: RB Leipzig will sign #Xavi on permanent deal ✔️Contract until 2027. Transfer fee: €50m + add-ons as per @philipphinze24 and @BILD_rbleipzig. Transfer fee can rise to €80m with bonus payments. Borussia Dortmund has appointed Niko Kovač as their new head coach. The 53-year-old, born in Berlin, has signed a contract with BVB until June 30, 2026, and will officially take charge next Sunday after the club’s Bundesliga match against Heidenheim. pic.twitter.com/O6hPBoCxn2— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) January 30, 2025So...if you want to be optimistic about this, you can say it is a case of two broken entities looking to fix each other. However, as we know, Kovač is very particular, has high standards, and is very demanding. Going to a team with a very questionable mentality, this could be an absolute disaster. The Bundesliga needs a good Borussia Dortmund, but there is so much that needs to be fixed with the club at the moment. It is tough to think that Kovač is going to be the guy to do it. No one should be calling for Vincent Kompany’s head, but he does need to be held accountable for the team’s performances of late — and his man management, which is leaving a lot to be desired.
