Sources indicate Bayern Munich could make Chris Richards transfer from FC Dallas permanent
Media FC Dallas loanee Chris Richards is reportedly close to extending his stay in Bavaria Per a report of Ives Galarcep of Goal, it appears that the much-speculated move to formalize a transfer of Chris Richards to Bayern Munich is underway. Richards, an FC Dallas loanee by way of Texans SC and Hoover, Alabama, has been impressive during his stint in Munich, including a very successful showing during the International Champions Cup last summer. An 18-year old, Richards stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds. Richards has displayed excellent defensive skills and a calmness on the ball for the Bayern U-19 squad. In addition, Richards was recently called up to the Bayern U-23 team when Lars Lukas Mai was promoted to the first team roster against Werder Bremen.I’m told Bayern Munich is finalizing the transfer of #USMNT U-20 defender Chris Richards from FC Dallas. The Alabama-born centerback has impressed on loan with Bayern’s U-19s, and is coming off a good showing at the Concacaf Championships. Here’s more: https://t.co/afGHZeSfnv— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) December 6, 2018Per the report by Goal:FC Dallas and Bayern Munich are putting the finishing touches of a transfer that would keep the 18-year-old with Bayern, the club he joined on loan in the summer. Sources tell Goal the transfer would be a $1.25 million deal, making him the latest American teenager to complete a move to Germany. Per a Goal report in November, Richards was eager to extend his stay in Bavaria to continue his development: When they told me there was an option to buy I was like ‘Wow, I hope I can play well enough for them to even consider buying me. Now it’s becoming a reality that they have a good chance of being able to buy me.’ Read more...
Chris Richards receives United States U20 call-up
Media The Alabama native will continue his path upward with more international experience for the United States U20 team. Per a release by USSoccer.com, Bayern Munich youth player and former FC Dallas Academy product Chris Richards has received the call-up to play for the United States U20 team next week in Pinatar, Spain. The United States U20 squad will square off with France on March 22nd and Japan on March 25th. Richards, whose journey to Bavaria was captured in our three-part series last month, has seen his stock take a meteoric rise as he progressed from Texans SC to FC Dallas to a loan spell with Bayern Munich, which ultimately led to a permanent deal with Die Roten. Two big challenges await in Spain.

Alphonso Davies scores as Canada claims historic victory over the USMNT!
United States v Canada - CONCACAF Nations League Photo by Vaughn Ridley/Getty ImagesThe Bayern Munich winger put on an excellent performance and opened up the scoring in Canada’s 2-0 victory over the US.Tonight, Canada faced off against the United States in the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League. Canada were easily the better side and won the match 2-0. Alphonso Davies opened up the scoring for the Canadians in the 63rd minute with a tap-in after a run to the far post. This was the first goal Canada has scored against the US since 2007.Canada scores on the U.S. for the first time since 2007 pic.twitter.com/2fVA55Xigk— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) October 16, 2019Davies was easily the best player on the pitch. He showed off his speed and versatility going by defenders and sending in dangerous crosses. Fonzie’s goal was not his first shot on target either, as he forced Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Zack Steffen to make several saves. Davies took slight knock in the second half but played on. He was subbed off shortly after his goal. His replacement, Lucas Cavallini, scored a beautiful volley to clinch the game in stoppage time. The United States looked out of sorts throughout the entire 90 minutes of the match. The Americans projected very little urgency or quality. Schalke’s Weston Mckennie lacked the defensive acumen he has shown this campaign in the Bundesliga and had a hard time linking up with anyone else wearing a white shirt. He looked like a completely different player out there. The former Borussia Dortmund player Christian Pulisic added to his woes this season. After seeing very little playing time so far in his first campaign with Chelsea, Puli had a poor game and was subbed out at the hour mark. His replacement did little better as Pulisic looked on from the bench. Werder Bremen striker Josh Sargent also started for the US but was largely anonymous. Zack Steffen was probably their man of the match and came up with big saves over the 90 minutes.Canada was by far the hungrier and more determined of the two sides. This was their first victory against the United States in 34 years. For the first time in 34 years, Canada have defeated the #USMNT pic.twitter.com/GRnatXC8yh— Goal (@goal) October 16, 2019Read more...

Bayern München II v Hansa Rostock - 3. LigaPhoto by Sebastian Widmann/Getty ImagesIf this transfer goes through, he’ll become the second FC Dallas defender to join Bayern.Per a report by The Athletic (via Big D Soccer) Bayern Munich are trying to sign American youngster Justin Che on a permanent deal from FC Dallas. The 17-year-old has been playing with the reserve team in the 3. Liga since last winter, and has sufficiently impressed the Bayern brass to earn a permanent move.Per the report, Dallas are looking for a $3-4 million fee as well as a sell-on clause to be included in Che’s contract. This would make him more expensive than his compatriot Chris Richards, who was similarly an FC Dallas loanee that made the permanent switch to Bayern for $1.5m a few years ago. Richards has since made the leap to the big leagues, playing half-a-season on loan at Hoffenheim.Bayern seem to be serious in recruiting from North America these days, and Che’s performances in the second team have been promising thus far. If this transfer goes through, it would be another example of the club making a smart investment in youth when money is tight. In addition, Che was called up to the USMNT for its upcoming camp and friendly against Switzerland. Per USSoccer.com:“With Justin, he’s a kid who is on loan at Bayern Munich has done a great job in their youth team and in their second team, and he has earned the opportunity to get called into camp. It’s going to be fun observing him and integrating him into what we do.”#USMNT May Newbie Vitals:

FC Bayern Muenchen v 1. FC Koeln - Pre-Season FriendlyPhoto by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesThe Alabama native could move on, but not until the roster settles with Bayern Munich.According to a report from kicker (as captured by Bundesliga commentator Derek Rae), Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards could leave the Bavarians this summer, but it will not happen just yet.The Bayern Munich defense is down two players for at least the next month as Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies both sustained injuries during their respective international stints.Hoffenheim wants to bring Richards back either on a short-term or long-term basis, but the low the numbers on the current Bayern Munich defensive depth chart will likely keep the Alabama native in Bavaria until later in the transfer window:Kicker reporting there’s a good chance #USMNT’s Chris Richards will return to Hoffenheim for a short or long term engagement. But in the immediate short term he’s needed by parent club Bayern (contract until 2023) due to injuries. Plenty of time before transfer window closes.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) July 18, 2021At 21-year-old, Richards is one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe and turned in a stellar loan stint with Hoffenheim in the second half of last season. When fully stocked, the Bayern Munich defensive depth chart could be extremely difficult to break into this season for any young defender, so a move back to Hoffenheim would like be beneficial for the youngster. When he will be able pack to his bags, however, could be up in the air for quite a while.
