Malta v England: Group C - UEFA EURO 2024 Qualifying Round Photo by Domenic Aquilina - The FA/The FA via Getty Images There seems to be a trend going on with Bayern Munich. Manchester City star Kyle Walker was rumored to be close to a deal with Bayern Munich, but it appears that the 33-year-old might end up inking a contract extension with Pep Guardiola’s club after all. After days of “it’s getting close”-type rumors, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Walker and Manchester City could be working on a contract extension:EXCL: Man City and Kyle Walker are in talks over contract extension. Sources believe this is still a possibility despite interest from Bayern. #MCFCBayern want Walker but City are still in talks to discuss Kyle’s stay.Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, however, has a report with Bayern Munich angling to get a deal done as soon as possible:More on Kyle #Walker: FC Bayern wants to finalize the deal soon as he wants to join Tuchel as revealed. Bayern is working on a total verbal agreement now. ➡️ First talks and ideas about a possible package of €20-30m transfer fee - all in!➡️ Negotiations ongoing. #MCFC Two journalists, two differing view points…where does the truth reside? That remains to be seen, but if Walker is yanking Bayern Munich by its chain just to get more money out of Manchester City, it would feel eerily similar to how things played out with West Ham’s Declan Rice — with the English midfielder dangling the carrot to Bayern Munich, only to have no real desire to leave the island. Rice is expected to sign with Arsenal FC in the coming days.

England v North Macedonia: Group C - UEFA EURO 2024 Qualifying Round Photo by Marc Atkins/Getty Images Is Bayern Munich about to land Kyle Walker? Despite reports earlier this week that pointed Kyle Walker toward a contract extension with Manchester City, Bayern Munich is expecting the 33-year-old England international to accept a two-year contract, that will feature an option for a third-year.Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg first reported the news via Twitter earlier today: ❗️News #Walker: A few days ago there was the first personal meeting between Bayern and the player's agents. Before that there were only phone calls. Tuchel involved.

➡️ Walker could sign a contract until 2025 + year option.

Bayern is still pushing for Walker!
2+1 Jahr ✅
Option allerdings nur bei vielen Einsätzen (30+) im zweiten Jahr.— Tobi Altschäffl (@altobelli13) June 22, 2023Bayern is in intensive talks with Kyle Walker’s management. Internally it is assumed that he could become the next transfer. Offer from Bayern, as first reported by sky:2+1 year However, this is only an option for many assignments (30+) in the second year.A potential three-year contract (if the option year is triggered) with Walker would represent a major change in strategy for the Bavarians, who have been notoriously reluctant to even signing their own players, who are older than 30, to more than a one-year deal. Moreover, the length of the deal could be seen as troublesome to younger players like Noussair Mazraoui, who has already been unhappy with this role per reports, and Josip Stanišić, who appears to be consistently caught up in a numbers game at the outside -back position. If a deal with Bayern Munich should not work out, Manchester City is said to be eager to bring Walker back and AC Milan also maintains interest, as well.

FC Bayern München Training Session Photo by Apinya Rittipo/Getty Images It does not appear as if anyone at Bayern Munich is fully aligned on this topic. Bayern Munich has been linked to a few defensive midfielders over the summer, but now it appears that manager Thomas Tuchel is making his first big push to bring in a player at that position since the club whiffed on convincing former West Ham star Declan Rice to spurn Arsenal FC in favor of Bavaria. According to Sky Sport journalist, Tuchel is making his move, but the club might not be as eager as the coach to start making offers on anyone: Thomas Tuchel wants a „holding six“. But this search is currently not a priority for the club. Because of #Kane & #Walker!

➡️ #Tchouameni, interesting profile. But currently not feasible. Neither as a permanent deal, nor as a loan.

But this search is currently not a priority for the club. Because of #Kane & #Walker!➡️ #Tchouameni, interesting profile. But currently not feasible. Neither as a permanent deal, nor as a loan. ➡️ Edson #Alvarez was offered to Bayern but he’s not a target for the bosses. @SkySportDEAfter Bayern Munich’s enthralling 4-3 win over Liverpool FC in Singapore, current holding midfielder (by name, but maybe not by playing style), Joshua Kimmich, was asked what he thought about Tuchel wanting a new player at the position. Kimmich appeared to be dumbfounded, said he was a No. 6, and ended the interview. @kerry_hau pic.twitter.com/TFYTS1t3Ru https://t.co/EFDesRJloR— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) August 2, 2023If you want to muddy the waters even more, Sport Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl captured some thoughts from Matthijs de Ligt on whether or not the team needed a player, who could truly play the position in the traditional sense:Does Bayern need a holding midfielder?

Matthijs de Ligt: "We don't have that now, that's the truth. If you have a holding #6, that's nice. If you don't have one, you have to work with other types of players."

[@altobelli13]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) August 2, 2023Now, it is up to the squad planners and the coaching staff to figure out how to proceed. How that affects Kimmich — if at all — remains to be seen.

FC Bayern München v AS Monaco - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images “Somebody stop me!” Hide your Premier League defensive midfielders! We kid, but Bayern Munich might not be kidding around with an apparent renewal of their hunt for a new signing at the number six position. Georg Holzner of kicker has the report:The #fcbayern is increasingly looking for a defensive six again. Coach Thomas #Tuchel really wants one. The bosses gave the go. After the deal with Kyle #Walker fell through, the record champion has more financial options in this regard @kickerBetween Joshua Kimmich’s new and more advanced role and a squad composition replete with eights rather than sixes, it sounds like a situation the Bayern bosses have to pay serious attention to. After all, if this is how the coach wants to play, it could be an early warning sign of what Bayern’s results might look like should the necessary pieces not be present. It’s curious, though, that this is coming on the heels of reports that Manchester United are intent on signing Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard, while Tuchel’s pursuit of Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has fallen through. New midfield signing Konrad Laimer might get a look at right-back — a move that would clear space in the center for a new signing to play.Who might that be, at this point? And what becomes of Leon Goretzka and Ryan Gravenberch if that player arrives?

Manchester City FC v West Ham United FC - Premier League Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images Fool me once... Back in 2023, there was a somewhat brief craze surrounding a potential acquisition of Manchester City defender Kyle Walker by Bayern Munich. At the time, the rumor had emerged from nowhere, but did — as we would find out later — have some substance to it, mostly due to Walker wanting to have a change of scenery. In recent days, those same kinds of rumors have emerged, but — rest assured — they are not true, per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: Rumors linking FC Bayern with Kyle #Walker are wide of the mark!#MCFC‘s 34y/o experienced right-back is currently not a topic at Bayern. AC Milan still pushing to sign him in this transfer window! @SkySportDEFabrizio Romano backed up Plettenberg’s report: Pep Guardiola says he’ll decide this afternoon if Kyle Walker will be in the squad to face Brentford……but he’s definitely not expected to play. Walker plans to leave this month with AC Milan in active talks after interest from Saudi.Negotiations ongoing. That might come as a relief to some Bayern Munich fans, who were not looking forward to a potential acquisition of Walker.
