FC Bayern München v AS Monaco - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images “Somebody stop me!” Hide your Premier League defensive midfielders! We kid, but Bayern Munich might not be kidding around with an apparent renewal of their hunt for a new signing at the number six position. Georg Holzner of kicker has the report:The #fcbayern is increasingly looking for a defensive six again. Coach Thomas #Tuchel really wants one. The bosses gave the go. After the deal with Kyle #Walker fell through, the record champion has more financial options in this regard @kickerBetween Joshua Kimmich’s new and more advanced role and a squad composition replete with eights rather than sixes, it sounds like a situation the Bayern bosses have to pay serious attention to. After all, if this is how the coach wants to play, it could be an early warning sign of what Bayern’s results might look like should the necessary pieces not be present. It’s curious, though, that this is coming on the heels of reports that Manchester United are intent on signing Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard, while Tuchel’s pursuit of Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has fallen through. New midfield signing Konrad Laimer might get a look at right-back — a move that would clear space in the center for a new signing to play.Who might that be, at this point? And what becomes of Leon Goretzka and Ryan Gravenberch if that player arrives?

The scoreline doesn’t do Bremen justice for how long they kept the scoreline 1-0 to Bayern, but in the end, the visitors just had too much firepower for the Die Grün-Weißen to deal with over the course of the 90+ minutes. On the overall balance sheet, Bayern out-shot Bremen by 10 shots on frame to 1, but Bremen did a decent enough job to stay in the match and keep it 1-0 up until the 74th minute when Kane opened up his Bayern scoring account after a lovely pass from Kingsley Coman. By that point, Thomas Tuchel was afforded the opportunity to make some substitutions that were able to get in on the goals involvement, as Thomas Müller assisted Sané and Tel scored. There was, however, one substitute inexplicably not in the team.Josip Stanišić wasn’t even listed in Bayern’s squad at all despite playing relatively regularly in Bayern’s preseason friendlies earlier this summer. Tuchel started with a back four of Alphonso Davies, Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano, and Noussair Mazraoui; Matthijs de Ligt was the only defensive substitute to come on, while both Benjamin Pavard and Frans Krätzig were both on the bench.Per Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl, there is concern that Stanišić could yet leave Bayern before the summer transfer window closes on September 1st — it’s not been ruled out by the club. His prospects are reportedly not looking too great under Tuchel, even though he had featured under him last season after Julian Nagelsmann had been sacked. Altschäffl had even more information on the Croatian that was captured by @iMiaSanMia, which indicated that the youngster took being left out of the squad very hard: Being left out of the squad today was a tough blow for Josip Stanišić. The defender is having a hard time under Thomas Tuchel. A loan/permanent move is possible in the next few days. For Bayern, this could mean that depth at right-back could run quite scarce if both Pavard and Stanišić wind up leaving before the window closes. However, it appears that the futures of two players are tied.Inter Milan’s interest in Pavard was soundly swatted away by the Bavarians: Excl. Liverpool FC v Bayern Muenchen - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Apinya Rittipo/Getty Images The Dutchman wants to play. Bayern Munich midfielder has been unhappy about his status on the team for almost a year now and things have not progressed much for the Dutchman.Gravenberch’s No. 4 placement on Bayern Munich’s midfield depth chart has not improved under Thomas Tuchel, but Liverpool FC and Manchester United are very interested in the 21-year-old, anyway. For his part, Gravenberch seems more than open to a move, but for Bayern Munich, the price will have to be right from either Liverpool or Manchester United to get a deal done: ❗️Ryan #Gravenberch: He wants to play regularly. FC Bayern München Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Can the Canadian left-back rebound? A somewhat surprising lineup decision for Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of the team’s 1-0 win over Union Berlin was leaving Alphonso Davies on the bench in favor of Raphaël Guerreiro. Sure, Davies has had some rough moments this season and he was coming off of a match where he was beaten for the game-winning goal by Werder Bremen’s Mitchell Weiser, but he has been a longtime fixture in the lineup for the Bavarians. With rumors circulating that the Canadian left-back might want to transfer away from the club this summer, though, it was assumed by some that Bayern Munich might not want to risk alienating the 23-year-old at such a tenuous time. Think again.Per kicker journalist Georg Holzner, the decision to bench Davies was just the latest warning shot fired at Davies and his camp. Back in December, Bayern Munich let Davies and his representation know that the club was not happy with his performances during the Hinrunde: ❗️Trainer Thomas #Tuchel nimmt Alphonso #Davies aus der Startelf. Nach @kicker-Informationen haben die Bayernbosse dem Management des Kanadiers schon vor Weihnachten mitgeteilt, dass sie mit den Leistungen des 23-Jährigen keineswegs zufrieden sind. #fcbayern ⚪️— Georg Holzner (@georg_holzner) January 24, 2024Coach Thomas #Tuchel takes Alphonso #Davies from the starting eleven. According to @kicker information, the Bayern bosses informed the Canadian’s management before Christmas that they were by no means satisfied with the 23-year-old’s performance. #fcbayern A dynamic talent, who has still probably not reached his potential as a player, Davies can be an absolute gamechanger for the Bavarians when he is at his best. Can he get back on the pathway to progression and evolve as a player? Or...will this temporary setback lead to a longer-term issue between his camp and the club?Hopefully, Davies can rebound and put an end to any of those discussions — with the exception of any talk about a new contract. SS Lazio v FC Bayern München: Round of 16 First Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by Matteo Ciambelli/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Things could be a lot better... According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich is still not considering a move regarding head coach Thomas Tuchel, but the next three games will go a long way in determining what kind of future — if any — the club has in mind for Tuchel: FC Bayern are currently not pushing for an early dismissal of Thomas Tuchel as reported. All parties hope that Tuchel will turn things around with the team ✔️➡️ However, Tuchel cannot afford a loss in Bochum on Sunday ➡️ The next three games against Bochum, Leipzig and Freiburg are crucial for the internal evaluation. Following that is the return leg against Lazio … Plettenberg added further context as well: News #Tuchel: A dismissal of Tuchel has not been a topic after the loss against Lazio Roma. ➡️ The coach will sit on the bench for Sunday’s Bundesliga away game in Bochum - as also via @altobelli13 ⚠️ However, there is no longer a 100 percent guarantee that Tuchel will continue at least until summer, although that is the plan and desire of the management! If Bayern also stumble in Bochum on Sunday, it will become increasingly difficult for Tuchel …@SkySportDEBild journalist Tobi Altschäffl, who had a testy exchange with Tuchel during the postgame press conference, is also reporting that Tuchel is not going anywhere just yet (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): Despite the increasing criticism, Thomas Tuchel will not be dismissed following the defeat against Lazio. The coach will definitely stay at the moment and will sit on the bench against Bochum on Sunday.Tuchel. who is rumored to have lost support of several key members within the locker room, was linked to a move to FC Barcelona after the season, which could have some board members asking questions in the coming days, but — for now — Tuchel’s status at the club remains in tact.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s exasperating 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lazio in the Champions League? Dreesen then went on to reply to a question about whether Tuchel would still be the head coach for next week’s clash against RB Leipzig by saying, “Of course.”Jan-Christian Dreesen: "I'm feeling shi**y. Today mentality beat quality."
Tuchel still in charge next week?
Dreesen: "Of course"
[@AZ_Strasser]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) February 18, 2024Thomas Tuchel has led Bayern to two defeats and a draw in three matches against Leipzig, and it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to turn things around with his team’s current form. Hopefully, he isn’t kept around after Bayern lose that game to make it four losses in a row. Then check out our newest podcast episode! Despite the increasing unrest at Bayern Munich on the heels of three straight losses across all competition, the message from the club’s board and hierarchy has remained the same; they still want to stick with Thomas Tuchel as manager. There has been an unofficial call for him to be removed from his post from large portions of Bayern fans, as the club is eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga table, already out of the DFB-Pokal, and 1-0 down on aggregate to Lazio after the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.Per Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport (via Football Espana), Zinedine Zidane has been pegged as a frontrunner to replace Tuchel should the club decide to relieve him of his duties either before the end of this season, or this summer. VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images IT’S HAPPENING! According to a slew of reports from outlets across Germany, Bayern Munich have decided to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Some of Germany’s most powerful and accomplished football executive needed days of discussion to figure out what ordinary fans have been saying for many months now — this team has no future under the current coach. EXCLUSIVE News: After good and fair discussions FC Bayern and Thomas #Tuchel have decided to part ways at the end of the season!
Announcement soon ✔️@SkySportDE pic.twitter.com/oB1dUYBie2— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) February 21, 2024Unfortunately, this also means that Bayern Munich have 100% given up and thrown in the towel for this season. With Tuchel in charge, there is genuine doubt as to whether Bayern will even finish in the top 2 this year, and the second leg against Lazio looks like a fool’s hope. A team that can’t beat Bochum has no business advancing to the Champions League Round of 16. For Tuchel, it’s probably not an ideal outcome either. He’ll have to keep working with players he actively dislikes (the feeling is, apparently, mutual) and the added losses will weigh down his overall record as a coach. At present, he’s already the worst Bayern Munich coach since Jurgen Klinsmann, and could take the number 1 spot if things get much worse. In the meantime, FC Barcelona get closer to Hansi Flick while Liverpool FC sound out Xabi Alonso to be Jurgen Klopp’s successor. You have to wonder how many intense discussions will be needed for the Bayern board to realize that some decisions cannot simply be delayed.By then, it’ll probably be too late.

VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Bayern Munich is hiring a new manager...again. With the news dropping earlier today that Bayern Munich will part ways with head coach Thomas Tuchel, the club is now moving on searching for its next manager. Abendzeitung reporter Maximilian Koch tweeted out that there is no confirmed replacement for Tuchel just yet: The successor to #Tuchel for the summer has not yet been determined, the intensive search starts now. The hope of the Munich team is that the early announcement of the separation will now have a liberating effect on the players and also on Tuchel. Will that work? #FCBayern @AbendzeitungSky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is a serious candidate: X News Xabi #Alonso: The 42 y/o is now the absolute top candidate to replace Thomas #Tuchel at the end of the season ✔️As exclusively revealed today: Tuchel will leave Bayern at the end of the season! @SkySportDESport Bild’s Christian Falk has information that Bayern Munich will attempt to stop Alonso from making a move to Liverpool FC: True✅ Bayern will try to highjack a Transfer-Deal of @LFC Liverpool with Xabi Alonso, if Alonso decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen in Summer @BILD_SportWhile Falk’s wording is a bit all over the place, you get the point. If Alonso is leaving Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich will make an effort to keep him in Germany. Plettenberg also noted that Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp will not be the coach at Bayern Munich next season: The possibility of Jürgen #Klopp becoming the coach of FC Bayern in the summer is currently “100 %“ ruled out, sources confirm. ➡️ Klopp remains firmly committed to taking a one-year break! @SkySportDEBayern Munich’s next move will be key — and needs to be a viable, long-term candidate for a club, whose managerial situation has been in a constant state of flub since Pep Guardiola was at the helm. VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Is there a candidate in mind? If things goes south between Bayern Munich and head coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of their scheduled schism at the end of the season, Bayern Munich might already know who it would look to for a caretaker position — former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Solskjær, who is rumored to be a favorite of Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund, would be open to the move: News #Solskjær: If the plan of all parties involved fails and #Tuchel had to leave prematurely, Solskjær would be ready as an interim solution for FC Bayern! ➡️ Been told: Solskjær would be willing to sign a contract only until the end of the season ✔️Bayern is still monitoring the ManUtd legend - as reported. For a few weeks now, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has been on shaky footing at Bayern Munich. However, is it possible that Tuchel already made up his mind that he was going to leave the club weeks ago? When it was announced that Xavi would not be returning to his post next season, rumors almost immediately kicked up that Tuchel would be a candidate to move to Spain. It seemed sort of unbelievable at the time given that Bayern Munich was in such good standing in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League. Since then, things have changed in a monumental way, but why?Did Tuchel lose the team? Did the squad’s true form finally come to light? Is the team just not that good? What if, though, Tuchel simply checked out? According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tuchel already has spoken to Pep Guardiola about FC Barcelona and has a defined interest in the Catalan club: Tuchel has, apparently, already had chats with Pep Guardiola regarding the club, met Johan Cruyff, has been fascinated for years by Barca’s La Masia academy, and has also raved about the Spanish players there. With Barcelona needing a new manager next season because of Xavi’s impending departure, Tuchel could be walking out of the frying pan and into the fire this summer. At the time when it was announced that Xavi was leaving Barca at the end of the season, beIN Sports had a report already linking Tuchel to the job. While beIN said that Tuchel’s camp rubbished the rumor. Didi Hamann also famously gave his opinion on the matter. All of that elicited a response. Bayern Munich’ brass took such a strong stance against the “talk” of Tuchel eyeing the FC Barcelona gig? Tuchel offered an equally formidable take on the matter. What if the people that Bayern Munich and Tuchel cracked down on, were correct? What if Tuchel was already toying with the idea of a future in Catalonia?#JusticeForDidi? Maybe not yet, but it is very curious. After the announcement that Tuchel would part ways with Bayern Munich, Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg issued this information: News #Tuchel: So far, he is not in concrete talks with any club. Arsenal FC v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final First Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by Marc Atkins/Getty Images Will Leroy Sané be ready? Bild journalist Michel Schröer was at the Bayern Munich training ground today and captured some footage of injured attacker Leroy Sané putting in some extra work ahead of the team’s match against Arsenal FC in the Champions League on Wednesday. Sané’s status will affect Thomas Tuchel’s lineup in a big way and the club physios and trainers are doing everything in their power to have the Germany international ready to roll for the UCL quarterfinal showdown: Das Ziel ist klar: Er will es unbedingt bis zum Arsenal-Spiel packen. We will do everything we can to ensure that he can play on Wednesday.” #FCBayern“I hope so. It should work,” Sané told Bild when asked if he would be able to play against Arsenal FC in the Champions League on Wednesday (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). If Sané is not ready, Bayern Munich will have to get creative. Aside of Sané’s injury, both Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman are out for the Wednesday match. Either way, Jamal Musiala should be returning to wing against Arsenal FC, which should put Thomas Müller back at the attacking midfield position. There is a possibility that Mathys Tel could also the nod at wing, so it is not as if head coach Thomas Tuchel is totally devoid of options. FC Bayern München v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Is it really happening? According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel could be working toward to mending fences. TSG Hoffenheim v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Corbis via Getty Images Thomas Tuchel will receive eight figures and no strings attached. When a coach is fired, especially in the American sports world, a club might try to drag out the severance package payout or claw back some of the money. In the case of Thomas Tuchel, and his two-year deal that was cut in half due to a lack of success on the pitch, Bayern Munich has agreed to take the moral high ground.According to Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern has agreed to fulfill the full financial obligation of the contract. Tuchel will receive a sum of more than €10m and his entire staff will also be paid off with the remaining balance of their contracts. Bayern will also terminate the contract, allowing Tuchel to sign freely with a new club without any hassle from Bayern.Plettenberg also added more context on his own X (Twitter) account: Excl.
