He has a bright future ahead of him, and he will continue to train with Bayern’s first team.According to Sport1’s sources, Julian Nagelsmann is impressed with Wanner and his progress. He had many one-on-one sessions with him in recent weeks, and Nagelsmann’s trust helped Wanner and his family decide to stay in Munich.1️⃣4️⃣ #Wanner#MiaSanMia pic.twitter.com/rxtG2U6zNb— FC Bayern English (@FCBayernEN) January 31, 2022The coach told Bayern’s website that he is very happy with the extension. “We have now accompanied his first steps in the Bundesliga, and many more are to follow. Paul is a special talent that we want to promote. I, and my coaching team, will try to live up to the expectations he has of us. On the other hand, we expect that Paul will always give everything he has.”Big things are expected from Wanner after he made Bayern Munich history — he is the youngest ever Bundesliga player for the Rekordmeister. Reportedly, Bayern will give him shirt number 14 — the number Xabi Alonso used to wear.

Italy - GermanyPhoto by Berney Ardov/picture alliance via Getty ImagesThe youngster reportedly wants playing time, but will he leave Bayern Munich to get it?What a day for Bayern Munich youngster Paul Wanner.Earlier, Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) reported that Wanner was going to seek an exit from the club in hopes of getting a loan where he would be able to play more:Paul Wanner wants to get more game time this season and develop as a regular starter at another club in order to recommend himself to FC Bayern. A loan move for at least one season is currently being discussed.Wanner was very close to joining Wolfsburg at the end of 2021. He had visited their training facilities & had an agreement in principle to join them. In the end, Wanner ended up extending his Bayern contract. A loan to Wolfsburg this summer could be an interesting option.Frank Linkesch, a reporter for kicker, however, issued a completely different story stating that Wanner was not going anywhere:Gerüchte um eine Ausleihe von Paul #Wanner entbehren jeder Grundlage. Er wird diese Saison beim #FCBayern bleiben und gehört neben #Musiala und #Gravenberch zu den jungen Spielern, die #Nagelsmann fördern soll. Diesen Auftrag hat der Trainer von den Bossen bekommen. #MiaSanMia— Frank Linkesch (@FrankLinkesch) July 7, 2022Rumors of a loan from Paul #Wanner are unfounded. He will stay with #FCBayern this season and, along with #Musiala and #Gravenberch, is one of the young players that #Nagelsmann will encourage. The trainer received this order from the bosses. #MiaSanMiaThis is not the first time there were rumors of Wanner being uncertain or even a bit unhappy with where he stands with the club. Whatever the case, the youngster is certainly full of talent — and will want to get some playing time soon enough. With Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Marcel Sabitzer, Ryan Gravenberch, and maybe even Jamal Musiala involved in the mix within the central midfield, getting playing time will not be easy. In addition, Bayern Munich is seriously courting RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer as well, which could further complicate matters.

FC Bayern München v FC Internazionale: Group C - UEFA Champions LeaguePhoto by Jonathan Moscrop/Getty ImagesCould the Bayern Munich youngster look toward Austria?Austria national team manager Ralf Rangnick is no stranger to the German Bundesliga. Always with his finger on the pulse of things, Rangnick has launched an offensive to convince Bayern Munich phenom Paul Wanner to join Austria instead of Germany for international play.Wanner is considered one of the brightest young talents at Bayern Munich and also within Germany. To lose him at this stage would be a tough blow to the DFB. According to Sky’s Florian Plettenberg, Rangnick, who was last season trying to put out the dumpster fire that is Manchester United, followed all of the proper protocols before making his move for Wanner:News #Wanner: ÖFB coach Rangnick has informed Bierhoff about the invitation of the 16 y/o top talent. He has also spoken to Paul. Wanner will join the Austrian camp in November. He wants to listen to Rangnick’s plans & visions. It’s a 50/50 decision between and ! @SkySportDEWanner, whose mother is Austrian, will have a tough choice to make. Surely, a pathway with less roadblocks to international play can be found in Austria, but can Rangnick power the national team back to the World Cup in 2026? Assuming Wanner stays on his current developmental pathway, the 16-year-old could be closer to a spot with Germany by that point.Looking for more chatter on Germany’s World Cup squad, the Bayern Munich contingent, who was left out, and who was a surprise inclusion? FC Bayern Training Session Photo by Stefan Brauer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Can the youngster show his vast potential at Bayern Munich? Just three seasons ago, Bayern Munich went into panic mode at the thought of losing prized youngster Paul Wanner, who became a hot commodity. When there were rumors that Wanner might want to move on, the club rallied to convince him to stay and eventually gave him a long-term deal that runs through 2027. However, nothing has went to plan from those days when it was feared he might bolt. Unable to get established under Julian Nagelsmann and moved around to a number of different positions, Wanner scuffled to assert himself as a first-team player. Last season, Wanner missed 15 games and a whopping 112 days of action due to injuries and illness per Transfermarkt in a campaign that saw Nagelsmann axed for Tuchel. For a young player, having so much managerial upheaval (Wanner rose to fame while Hansi Flick was at the club) has seemingly disrupted his progress. That does not even include one of Wanner’s biggest backers, former sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić, getting sacked, either. Now, Wanner is trying to assert himself at Tuchel’s training camp...and might be having some issues. Over the weekend, kicker’s George Holzner captured this from Tuchel: ️ Thomas #Tuchel mit lautstarken Kommentaren während der ersten Einheit.

Zu Paul #Wanner: „Paul du schläfst, das ist der dritte Ball, den du verlierst. Paul, wach auf jetzt.“#fcbayern pic.twitter.com/NEWjgHtzi3— Georg Holzner (@georg_holzner) July 15, 2023 ️ Thomas #Tuchel with loud comments during the first session. To Paul #Wanner: “Paul you are sleeping, this is the third ball you lost. Paul, wake up now.”While this will not be the last time Tuchel barks at Wanner or any other player, it does show the 17-year-old will not be coddled or given too much leeway for growing pains. Interestingly, though, Wanner did make out better than fellow prospects Arijon Ibrahimović and Gabriel Vidović, who were left home.BFW AnalysisAt his precocious young age, it is far too early to write off Wanner, but his lack of development since inking that long-term contract is concerning. Injuries and illnesses can derail any young player’s developmental pathway (just ask Fiete Arp), but Wanner was “the one” that Bayern Munich was expecting to be able to breakthrough to its first team at some point relatively soon. Now, though, it looks like it just might take a little longer to happen. The constant bopping around to different positions and having three head coaches in three seasons certainly has not helped the youngster, who could start to feel like the club truly does not have a plan for him. Due to what would be considered a lack of opportunity, Wanner is expected to go away on a loan assignment this summer. Regardless, the whole situation closely resembles how another young prospect, Torben Rhein, was considered the “jewel” of the Bayern Munich campus rose to quick fame and then slid into a downward spiral that has resulted in two consecutive years of loans. A future at Bayern Munich is extremely doubtful these days for Rhein...will Wanner be able to buck that trend and reverse course to re-establish himself?

FC Bayern München v AS Monaco - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images The duo is off to (hopefully) develop elsewhere. Without much hope of playing time on a roster jammed packed with established players Bayern Munich youngsters Paul Wanner and Arijon Ibrahimović are on the move. Wanner is off to 2. Bundesliga side SV Elversberg for a loan per Tz journalists Philipp Kessler and Mano Bonke (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): Paul Wanner will join 2. Bundesliga side SV Elversberg on loan, where he will play as a playmaker in the #10 position. New sporting director Christoph Freund gave Wanner a good feeling about this move.Sport1’s Kerry Hau is also reporting that SV Elversberg will not have an option to buy Wanner. 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Bayern Munich looking for a swap? According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner could potentially be part of a deal for Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz next summer: ⚽️ Paul #Wanner scored a fantastic goal for the German U21 team today against Poland… Next step is his final decision for Germany or Austria. Then the plans for summer will be finalized. 18 y/o wants to play Champions League next season. His loan with Heidenheim runs until the end of the season. No options included. FC Bayern (contract until 2027) are planning with him but if he will be part of the squad next season is still uncertain. A lot also depends on Florian #Wirtz. It cannot be ruled out that Wanner could be part of the negotiations with Leverkusen, if Bayern might go all-in for Wirtz. There is a long way between now and then, but it would be a scenario, which could intrigue Bayer Leverkusen.BFW AnalysisSwap deals rarely happen in today’s game, especially when it comes to a marquee player like Wirtz and a coveted phenom like Wanner. While it certainly would make sense on some levels, the X-factor in such a deal would be whether or not Wanner would accept it. As far the reliability of the source goes, Plettenberg is a good, seasoned reporter, who is tied in with the team. For now, this seems like it could be an idea that was floated to him rather than actual strategy that Bayern Munich intends to use to secure Wirtz. Like any journalist delving into the transfer rumor game, Plettenberg has some hits and some misses (mostly hits for what it is worth), but the early feeling here is that Bayern Munich would ultimately balk at including Wanner in such a deal, even if there would be a complete logjam at the No. 10 position in Munich. Where this could potentially have more of a chance of happening is if Wanner were to go to Bayer Leverkusen on loan (plus a substantial cash payment for Wirtz), but that does not seem like it would be something Wanner would be interested in (at least as of now). Should we completely rule it out? No, but — for now — the likelihood of a swap deal seems remote.

1. FC Heidenheim 1846 v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Will Bayern Munich be able to hang on to its prized youngster... Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner has made a good impression during his stint with Heidenheim so far. The 18-year-old has five goals and two assists in 11 games across all competitions, but with rumors swirling around Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz, Wanner might be getting a little antsy about his future. With that, a move next summer is not necessarily ruled out per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: A permanent transfer for Paul #Wanner next summer is possible ✔️The 18y/o is currently on loan at Heidenheim, and it is crucial to determine whether he has prospects of significant playing time for FC Bayern in the next two seasons.Bayer 04 Leverkusen remains an option for both him and the club, as revealed. A lot still depends on Florian #Wirtz. At present, it is unlikely that Wanner will be selected by Julian Nagelsmann in November. A call-up appears more realistic for the first half of 2025, as things currently stand. The whole scenario with Jamal Musiala, Wirtz, and Wanner is interesting as all three prefer to play the No. 10 position. While fans might salivate at the prospect of having all three in Bavaria next season, it could be tough for the trio to co-exist on the same roster unless Vincent Kompany can get creative. Holstein Kiel v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Uh-oh...Bayern Munich might have to ward off some competition for its wunderkind... Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner is having a good season on loan at Heidenheim — in fact, a campaign that has caught the attention of many clubs. Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund acknowledged that Wanner is drawing a lot of attention. “We are very happy and satisfied with Paul’s development. He has had a great start to the season, is playing well and having a lot of minutes. He is a player with whom we are planning our future, so we’re not thinking about other things. Of course, other clubs are interested. But we are planning with him in the future at Bayern Munich,” said Freund (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Sounds good, right? Much like Julian Nagelsmann found out with his ill-fated invitation to Wanner to attend German national team camp next week, the kid might have other ideas. Sport Bild’s Christian Falk posted news on some of the options that Wanner is considering for a potential move. You will like none of them if you are a Bayern Munich fan, who wants to see Wanner at the Allianz Arena next season: Paul Wanner (18) of FC Bayern (on loan at Heidenheim) is on the list of:
