Children of mothers exposed to higher nighttime temperatures during pregnancy had a higher risk of being diagnosed with autism, according to a study on 295,000 mothers in California from 2001 to 2014 Read Full Article #AutismResearch #MaternalHealth #H…
🌡️ New Tulane University study links warmer nighttime temperatures during pregnancy to increased autism risk in children.

🤰 Exposure during early pregnancy (weeks 1-10) showed a 15% higher risk; late pregnancy (weeks 30-37) showed a 13% higher risk.

🌃 Extreme nighttime temperatures were defined as above the 90th percentile (3.6°F hotter than average) and 99th percentile (5.6°F higher than average).

💡 This research adds to environmental factors potentially influencing fetal neurodevelopment and is the first to examine temperature's impact on this development.

Toxic exposure creates disease risk over 20 generations: A single exposure to a toxic fungicide during pregnancy can increase the risk of disease for 20 subsequent generations — with inherited health problems worsening many generations after exposure, finds a new study in rats.

Another study suggests no ties between tylenol in pregnancy and autism. In a study of more than 2 million births, positive associations between maternal acetaminophen prescriptions during pregnancy and ADHD and autism spectrum disorder in offspring became null in sibling-matched analyses.

Study suggests link between prenatal exposure to certain medications and increased autism risk. Medications known to inhibit the cholesterol synthesis pathway (antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics, beta-blockers and statins) were consistently associated…
👶 Landmark study links prenatal exposure to certain medications to increased autism risk. Medications inhibiting cholesterol synthesis pathway (SBIMs) were analyzed in 6.14 million maternal-child records (2014-2023).

📈 Mothers prescribed at least one SBIM during pregnancy had a 1.47x higher risk of an ASD diagnosis in their child. Risk increased with more SBIMs, reaching 2.33x for four or more.

⏳ Use of these medications during pregnancy increased from 4.3% in 2014 to 16.8% in 2023. The study calls for re-evaluating prescribing practices and exploring safer alternatives.

Common weed killer and pregnancy. Research found for every moderate increase in AMPA levels, researchers found 10.6% lower estriol levels during pregnancy. A similar increase in glyphosate was linked to 8.3% lower estriol levels. AMPA was also linked to higher levels of the thyroid hormone T3.

New Evidence That Microplastics Can Cross Placental Barrier And Alter Hormone Production. Study in mice showed that tiny plastic fragments inhaled by a mother mouse during pregnancy may be present in the organs of her offspring up to two weeks after birth…
🔬 New Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam study reveals certain micro- and nanoplastics can cross a human placental model and potentially affect steroid hormone production during pregnancy.

🔬 Researchers utilized a unique 3-layer human cell model mimicking the placental barrier and hormone-producing organ, observing particle translocation and hormonal shifts within 72 hours.

🔬 Polystyrene exposure notably affected estrogen levels, while multiple plastic types decreased etiocholanolone, highlighting potential impacts on crucial pregnancy hormones.

Wildfires now the dominant contributor of unhealthy levels of air pollution for pregnant women in the US Read Full Article #WildfirePollution #PregnantHealth #AirQualityUpdate
📊 A new study reveals wildfires are now the leading cause of unhealthy air pollution (fine particulate matter, PM2.5) for pregnant women in the US, contributing almost two-thirds of high-pollution days.

📈 Between 2003 and 2019, overall prenatal PM2.5 exposure decreased by 34%, but wildfire smoke's contribution more than doubled, offsetting improvements and becoming the dominant factor by 2019.

🌍 Nearly 65% of prenatal PM2.5 exceedance days were linked to wildfire smoke by the study's end, with disproportionately higher burdens in the Northwest and Western states, affecting low-income, rural, and Native American communities.

A study found that children with congenital TORCH infections were three times more likely to be diagnosed with autism and seven times more likely to be diagnosed with an intellectual disability. It also showed an impact on academic performance, suggesting…
👶 Rare pregnancy infections (TORCH) linked to increased risk of autism and intellectual disability in children, according to a Karolinska Institute study published in JAMA Pediatrics.

📈 Children with congenital TORCH infections were about 3x more likely to be diagnosed with autism and over 7x more likely to have an intellectual disability. Severe to profound intellectual disability risk was up to 30x higher.

📊 The study followed 3.7 million individuals born in Sweden between 1987-2021. While relative risks are high, these infections account for a small percentage of overall autism and intellectual disability cases at the population level.

🧠 The findings suggest that preventing certain infections transmissible to the fetus during pregnancy is crucial for long-term brain development, highlighting the importance of vaccination programs and other preventive strategies.

Tylenol during pregnancy not linked to autism, ADHD, major review finds Read Full Article #PregnancyHealth #AutismAwareness #TylenolSafety
✅ New study published today debunks claims linking acetaminophen (Tylenol) use during pregnancy to autism or ADHD.

✅ The umbrella review, involving over 3 million participants, found no causal link when examining high-quality data, despite earlier suggestions of a slight association.

✅ Researchers state acetaminophen remains an appropriate first-line treatment for fever and pain during pregnancy when medically necessary, citing potential risks of untreated maternal conditions.
