When the pay gap is wide, women see professional beauty as a strategic asset. When faced with a large gap in pay between men and women, those who reject traditional gender roles often see beauty as a strategic asset for career advancement. Read Full Article…
✨ Research published in Archives of Sexual Behavior suggests many women see physical attractiveness as a practical tool for career advancement, especially when facing a significant gender wage gap and rejecting traditional gender roles.

✨ An experiment found that women with weaker traditional gender beliefs were more interested in a professional grooming tutorial when presented with a high gender pay gap, viewing attractiveness as a strategy to compete in an unequal labor market.

✨ Conversely, women who strongly endorsed traditional gender roles showed consistent interest in a romantic tutorial, with their preferences unaffected by the level of income inequality presented.

Workers who score high on so-called “dark” personality traits are often better equipped to handle a toxic supervisor, new research suggests Read Full Article #WorkplacePsychology #DarkTraits #ToxicLeadership
✨ A study published in Psychology of Leaders and Leadership found that employees scoring high on "dark" personality traits (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, Psychopathy) were better equipped to handle toxic supervisors, reporting higher mental well-being, more career advancement, and better relationships with their leaders.

✨ However, these "dark" traits offered no protection against negative outcomes. Employees high in these traits still reported strong intentions to quit and high psychological distress when dealing with a toxic boss.

✨ Notably, employees high in psychopathy showed even stronger intentions to quit under toxic supervision, possibly due to impulsiveness, despite potential career advancements.

✨ Researchers suggest practical takeaways for individuals include building self-confidence and maintaining a strategic focus, while organizations are advised to regularly survey workers about their managers to detect and address toxic supervision early.

🌍 Research reveals deep-rooted cultural beliefs about hierarchy and gender roles can prevent highly educated women from fully participating in the workforce. In societies favoring strict social hierarchies, advanced education doesn't necessarily close the economic gender gap.

💼 A UN report found 90% of people globally hold biases against women, contributing to a persistent gender inequality issue. Globally, women earn less than men, with U.S. women earning about 84 cents for every dollar earned by men, even with a bachelor's degree.

📊 A study by Muge Yayla and A. Melih Kullu examined 144 countries, finding that high "power distance" (acceptance of unequal power distribution) significantly lowers women's economic participation. For every 60-point increase in power distance score, women's participation drops by an estimated 8.5%.

📈 In societies with low "masculinity" (valuing cooperation and social equality), cultural norms like power distance and education level had no significant impact on women's economic participation. These societies often prioritize social welfare and gender equality policies.

During the 2024 US presidential primary season, a recent study found that reading or watching negative political media predicted higher anxiety and lower work engagement, whereas positive political content predicted increased hope and helpfulness on the job.…
• 📈 Consuming negative political news outside of work correlates with increased anxiety and decreased work engagement once employees clock in.

• ✨ Conversely, positive political content is linked to higher levels of hope and a greater willingness to help colleagues.

• 🗓️ A nine-week study (January 19 - March 15, 2024) tracked 308 full-time US workers, finding week-to-week media diet changes impact workplace behavior.

• 🤔 Interestingly, positive political news consumption was a stronger predictor of emotional and work experiences than negative news, challenging the negativity bias theory.

A Danish study of 6,701 male managers found that after the birth of their first daughter, women’s share of employees rose by 1 percentage point and their relative earnings by 4.4%, driven largely by increased hiring and promotion of similarly qualified women.…
👶 Managers' daughters appear to boost gender equality: Women's relative earnings rose 4.4% and employment 2.9% after a male manager had a first daughter.

📊 This shift is linked to managers favoring female hires over equally qualified male candidates, not a change in overall firm performance.

⏳ The positive impact on women's outcomes is immediate and lasting, suggesting personal incentives or long exposure aren't required for managers to promote equality.
