Silver Prices Stabilise Near Record Highs
As the XAG/USD chart shows, the price of silver per ounce is consolidating near its all-time high, which lies above $85.
Bullish sentiment dominates the market, as concerns over the independence of the US Federal Reserve, heightened geopolitical tensions, and other factors have fuelled demand for safe-haven metals. According to media reports:
→ Official authorities are exerting pressure on the Fed to cut interest rates, having opened a criminal case against its Chair. Powell, in turn, described these actions as a “pretext” for influencing the decisions of an independent financial institution.
→ Traders are also closely monitoring the escalation of protests in Iran, which could lead to US military involvement, alongside President Trump’s statements about the annexation of Greenland. In the aftermath of the operation in Venezuela, such scenarios are increasingly being viewed as realistic.
Technical Analysis of the XAG/USD Chart
On 29 December, we updated the previously drawn ascending channel and suggested a potential decline in silver prices towards its lower boundary, with a possible bearish breakout attempt.
Indeed, prices moved down to the lower boundary. However, after the formation of an Inverted Head and Shoulders (IHS) pattern, bulls found support there and resumed the upward trend.
The current consolidation in XAG/USD confirms the role of the channel median, which appears to act as a reference level acceptable to both buyers and sellers. That said, today’s CPI release could disrupt this balance. Possible scenarios include:
→ a pullback towards the psychological support around $80, where the bullish impulse marked by the arrow began;
→ a rise towards the QH line, which divides the upper half of the channel into two quarters.

WTI Oil Price Rises Above $60
As the XTI/USD chart shows, the price of a barrel climbed above $60 this week, reaching a one-month high.
The main bullish driver has been large-scale anti-government protests in Iran, which could lead to a change of power and/or military action. Trump has voiced support for the protesters and threatened 25% tariffs on all countries trading with Iran. Market participants fear that Iranian oil supplies (around 1.5–2 mb/d) could simply disappear, or that the Strait of Hormuz could be closed.
Technical Analysis of the XTI/USD Chart
On 5 January, we:
→ used WTI price fluctuations to draw a descending channel (shown in red);
→ highlighted the long lower wicks formed when the price touched the lower boundary of the channel as evidence of strong demand (and a bear trap);
→ outlined a scenario involving a bullish impulse.
Indeed, since then the oil price has moved higher, with:
→ the upper boundary of the descending channel being broken, while the breakout level (around $58.35) subsequently acting as support (shown by the arrow);
→ fresh data providing grounds for plotting an upward trajectory.
After an attempted rise yesterday, downward momentum can be observed this morning (shown by the arrow). Given the rapid pace of WTI’s advance (around 2.7% since the start of the week), it is technically reasonable to assume that the market is vulnerable to a correction. The situation suggests that bulls may lack the strength to keep the price above the psychological $60 level. The market may also be sceptical that Trump will allow oil to remain this expensive (the President has said he wants a $53 barrel).
However, if geopolitical tensions in Iran (and other regions) intensify further, this could drive WTI prices even higher.

The Euro Stoxx 50 Index Reaches a Record High
As the charts show, the Euro Stoxx 50 price (Europe 50 on FXOpen) climbed above 6,055 points today, thereby setting a new all-time high.
Bullish sentiment is being supported by expectations of ECB interest rate cuts in 2026 and other fundamental factors, including:
→ News from China. Data released today have fuelled optimism about China’s economy, with Europe being one of its key trading partners.
→ Rising defence-sector stocks amid geopolitical tensions. For example, Rheinmetall shares have gained around 20% since the start of 2026.
An analysis of the Euro Stoxx 50 chart shows that:
→ price fluctuations are forming an ascending channel, with the price often remaining in its upper half (evidence of strong demand);
→ earlier this week, the price encountered resistance around the 6,040-point level. Today’s breakout above this level (marked by an arrow) may have attracted new buyers, pushing the price even higher.
It cannot be ruled out that today’s break to record highs may form another support zone (two similar zones are highlighted on the chart), helping bulls to maintain the trend.
On the other hand, some analysts point to significant market overbought conditions. As a result, a pullback towards the lower boundary of the channel remains a possible scenario.
How the Euro Stoxx 50 index moves next will largely depend on shifts in the unpredictable news backdrop. Note that today the US Supreme Court may rule Trump’s tariff policy — which also affects trade with Europe — unlawful.

Natural Gas Prices Fall to a Near Five-Month Low
As the XNG/USD chart indicates, natural gas prices are trading very close today to the 2025 low formed in August.
The factors weighing on natural gas prices include:
→ Updated weather models, which are forecasting higher temperatures in the eastern US in late January (24–28), sharply reducing expected demand for gas used for heating.
→ Technical issues with power supply and pipelines at the Cheniere Corpus Christi and Freeport LNG terminals, which have reduced gas flows for export. This means gas that was destined for overseas markets is remaining on the domestic market, adding to inventories.
→ Supply–demand imbalance. US gas production is near record levels (110.7 billion cubic feet per day), while domestic consumption has fallen by 15.5% year-on-year.
Technical Analysis of the XNG/USD Chart
In our earlier analysis of gas prices, we identified a long-term descending channel, shown in red on the chart. On 19 December, we:
→ noted that the price was trading near the channel’s median, where supply and demand typically balance;
→ suggested that the market could enter a consolidation phase.
Indeed, prices hovered around the median until 30–31 December, when a sharp decline began. During this move:
→ bearish gaps formed on the XNG/USD chart, indicating a strong dominance of sellers;
→ based on the price action, a downward trajectory can now be drawn (shown by the orange lines).
Traders should be prepared for the possibility that, in the near term, bears may attempt to break below the 2025 low. In that case, it cannot be ruled out that:
→ this would have a psychological impact on the market;
→ sellers would take profit on short positions;
→ buyers could step in and push gas prices up towards the R2 resistance line.

#MSFT #stocks #stocktrading #stockmarket #marketanalysis #MarketNews
Microsoft (MSFT) shares fall below $460
As the Microsoft (MSFT) share chart shows:
→ yesterday’s candle closed below $460 — the lowest level since early June last year;
→ the decline from the all-time high near $550 has exceeded 16%.
Why MSFT shares are falling
The downward move may reflect a shift in market sentiment from AI-driven euphoria to a more sober reassessment of the actual returns on investment. Investors are locking in profits amid concerns that the company’s current infrastructure spending may not pay off in the near term.
Concerns have been reinforced by media reports of:
→ disappointing sales momentum for its AI products (Microsoft 365 Copilot);
→ intensifying competition, including from Google Gemini and Amazon AWS;
→ rising capital expenditure (forecast at more than $80bn per year).
Technical analysis of Microsoft (MSFT) shares
From a long-term perspective, the share price continues to move within a key ascending channel. In this context:
→ the lower boundary acted as support in April 2025;
→ the upper boundary has served as resistance. The orange arrows highlight aggressive selling pressure whenever the price moves beyond it. The black arrow points to rising volumes during the price decline in early November — a bearish signal following overbought conditions;
→ the QH line, which divides the upper half of the channel into two parts, has switched from support to resistance near the psychological $500 level;
→ the current price has fallen towards the channel’s median, where supply and demand typically come into balance (marked by the blue arrow).
In light of the above, it is reasonable to assume that the market may find an equilibrium that could persist until 28 January, when the quarterly earnings report is scheduled for release.

US Delays Vote On Key Cryptocurrency Market Bill
Yesterday, the US Senate postponed a vote on a bill aimed at defining the structure of the cryptocurrency market. The delay followed the withdrawal of support by one of the industry’s leading players, the Coinbase exchange.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said the current version of the bill was “worse than having no legislation at all”. According to media reports:
→ the bill could have banned rewards for holding stablecoins (USDC), depriving Coinbase of a substantial share of its revenue;
→ the text was found to contain an effective ban on trading tokenised equities;
→ the bill imposed strict requirements on decentralised finance, undermining user privacy.
A market that had been expecting a regulatory “green light” has instead received another dose of uncertainty. As a result, COIN shares fell by more than 6% yesterday, opening with a bearish gap.
Technical Analysis of COIN Shares
As a reminder, in November we identified a descending channel and noted that Coinbase (COIN) shares were underperforming the broader market.
Since then, COIN has continued to move lower within this channel, with the following developments (marked by arrows):
→ the channel median acted as resistance in mid-December;
→ a bearish reversal formed in January.
Additional bearish signals include:
→ peak B only marginally exceeded peak A, resembling a bull trap;
→ yesterday’s decline occurred on rising volumes, with the close near the session low.
Today, COIN is trading near an important support area around $232.32, formed by a bullish gap from May last year. This could offer some hope to buyers and slow the decline within the channel. However, a strong upside reversal appears unlikely if the fundamental backdrop continues to disappoint cryptocurrency market participants.

EUR/JPY Pulls Back From Record High
As the chart shows, the exchange rate rose above ¥185.00 per euro for the first time ever earlier this week. Today, however, a modest pullback is visible, with the Japanese yen strengthening against the euro.
Fundamentally, this move has been supported by a combination of factors, most notably news from Japan. According to media reports, Japan’s Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama, said that Tokyo could carry out a joint currency market intervention with the United States to support the yen.
In addition, traders are positioning ahead of an important week, during which:
→ the Bank of Japan will announce its interest rate decision;
→ Japan’s parliament may be dissolved to pave the way for snap elections;
→ euro area PMI figures will be released.
Technical Analysis of the EUR/JPY Chart
Price action continues to form an ascending channel (shown in blue). At the same time, signs of a shift in sentiment have emerged.
At the start of the week, sentiment was bullish:
→ the price broke through a local resistance line and consolidated in the upper half of the channel;
→ it surpassed the December high and moved above the psychological level of ¥185 per euro.
Subsequently, bears took control:
→ the pair failed to hold above the 185.00 level;
→ the price fell back to the channel’s median, which failed to provide meaningful support;
→ the decline continued, with the local 183.9 level switching from support to resistance.
It is reasonable to assume that the lower boundary of the channel could limit further downside in EUR/JPY. However, this support is unlikely to hold if the Bank of Japan, potentially backed by the US, actively steps in to strengthen the yen.

USD/CAD Climbs to a Six-Week High
On Friday, USD/CAD rose above the 1.3920 level, marking its highest reading since 5 December.
The Canadian dollar is under pressure due to a combination of factors, including:
→ Market assessment of a trade agreement with China. The deal предусматривает sharp cuts in tariffs on electric vehicles and rapeseed. Both countries have also pledged to remove trade barriers and establish new strategic ties. This agreement has prompted a negative reaction from the United States.
→ Weakness in Canada’s labour market. The latest unemployment data for Canada were very soft, showing a rise to 6.8% in December.
→ Upcoming key events. Later today (at 16:30), Canada’s CPI data will be released, followed next week by the Bank of Canada’s interest rate decision.
That said, after USD/CAD has gained around 1.27% since the start of the year, bullish momentum may be fading — and there are signs of this on the chart:
→ First, note the 1.3939 level: in December it acted as support, but was later broken in an aggressive manner. Its proximity may now be providing resistance for the current market.
→ Second, analysing Friday’s price action, we can see that the impulsive rally above local resistance at 1.3920 ended in a bull failure. As indicated by the arrow, the entire advance was subsequently erased.
These observations suggest that bears may be ready to seize the initiative and attempt a break below the local ascending channel (shown in blue). Whether USD/CAD follows this scenario will largely depend on today’s inflation data and on comments from officials.

S&P 500 Opens the Week With a Bearish Gap
Despite a public holiday in the US (Martin Luther King Jr Day), the US stock market is showing volatility this morning. As the S&P 500 index chart (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen) indicates, trading on Monday opened with a sizeable bearish gap, driven by Donald Trump’s activity over the weekend.
According to media reports, the US president threatened to impose new tariffs on goods from eight European countries in order to force them to “fully and completely buy Greenland”. The proposed measures target Germany, the UK, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and Finland. A 10% tariff is set to take effect on 1 February and would rise to 25% in June if no agreement is reached.
In response to the US threats, European leaders are considering suspending the ratification of last year’s trade agreement. Clearly, the market could not ignore such an escalation in international trade tensions.
Technical Analysis of the S&P 500 Chart
The decline in the S&P 500 (US SPX 500 mini on FXOpen) appears to confirm the bearish signals highlighted in the article S&P 500 Hits a Record – But Is Everything Really So Positive? published on 13 January.
As anticipated:
→ bears proved effective in defending the psychological 7,000-point level (with the price posting a false bullish breakout on the same day);
→ on 14 January, bulls confidently met the decline near the marked support at 6,888, after which the price moved higher.
At the same time, the previously identified ascending channel remains relevant. In this context:
→ the channel median acted as support on Friday;
→ today’s bearish gap has pushed the price down to the lower boundary of the channel (shown by the blue arrow).
The lower boundary has already demonstrated its strength as support in the first days of 2026. However, if geopolitical tensions and disappointing releases during the ongoing earnings season continue to fuel anxiety, bears may break through it and steer the S&P 500 onto a downward path that is becoming increasingly apparent.

#XAUUSD #goldprice #commodities #marketanalysis #MarketNews
The Price of Gold Rises Above $4,700 for the First Time
At the market open on Monday, 19 January, gold quotes (XAU/USD) formed a bullish gap and moved above the psychological level of $4,660, setting a new all-time high.
Today, 20 January, the market continues to show extremely bullish sentiment — for the first time ever, the price of gold has climbed to $4,720.
Why Is Gold Rising?
The main bullish driver is geopolitical tension. Following events in Venezuela, attention has shifted to the United States’ desire to acquire Greenland (through purchase or other means).
According to media reports:
→ Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on eight European countries that oppose his ambitions regarding Greenland. This further intensifies fears of a potential trade war between the US and Europe.
→ French President Emmanuel Macron has declined an invitation to join the Trump-proposed Gaza Peace Council and is also demonstrating opposition to Trump’s intentions concerning Greenland. In turn, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that he is trying to persuade Macron to soften his response.
Technical Analysis of the XAU/USD Chart
Eight days ago, on 12 January, when analysing the gold chart, we:
→ constructed an ascending channel;
→ highlighted signs of market overbought conditions;
→ suggested that if a corrective scenario were to unfold, it would be unlikely to be deep.
Indeed, this scenario played out. On Friday, 16 January, the market pulled back to the $4,550 level, but judging by the long lower wick, bulls aggressively regained control around the body of the candle that formed at the opening of last week.
At the same time, as indicated by the arrows, we can observe similarities in the nature of the market open this week and last week: bullish gaps on wide candles breaking through previous resistance levels.
It cannot be ruled out that history may repeat itself — any pullback attempts (if they occur) may again prove unsuccessful, while the boundaries of the ascending channel continue to define the market’s trajectory.
Be prepared for volatility spikes as the traditional Davos Forum approaches (19–23 January), where a meeting between Trump and European leaders is expected.

#DXY #usdollar #forexmarket #tradingtips #marketanalysis #MarketUpdates
Dollar Index (DXY) Falls More Than 0.9% Since the Start of the Week
News surrounding Greenland is the main driver of financial markets today. As a result, we are seeing the implementation of the “Sell America” strategy: the share prices of US companies are falling, and the dollar is losing value against other currencies.
The risks of trade wars, NATO fragmentation, and a potential recession are causing the USD to lose its status as a “safe haven”, with capital flowing into alternative assets (confirming today’s rise in the price of gold to $4,700).
As a result, the dollar index is showing accelerating downward momentum today, having fallen to the 98.500 level.
Technical Analysis of the DXY Chart
On 12 January, analysing the dollar index (DXY) chart, we:
→ updated the descending channel (marked in red);
→ noted that its upper boundary showed signs of strong resistance.
At that time, we considered a scenario of an intermediate upward correction within the prevailing downward trend and suggested that this upward trajectory could eventually be broken by the bears.
Since then:
→ the price continued to fluctuate within the upward trajectory (shown by the blue channel);
→ but it was unable to hold above the upper red line.
Thus, today’s decline fully confirms the earlier assumption (completion of the intermediate recovery and a return of DXY values to the framework of the dominant downward trend), with:
→ the 98.79–99.02 zone (where supply strength had effectively broken support lines) potentially acting as resistance in the future;
→ an ambitious target for the current bearish pressure being the median of the descending channel.

Netflix (NFLX) Shares Fall Despite Strong Earnings Report
Yesterday, Netflix (NFLX) released its quarterly results, which, albeit only slightly, exceeded Wall Street analysts’ expectations — both in terms of earnings per share (EPS) and gross revenue. Despite this, NFLX shares fell in after-hours trading to around the $82.50 level.
Why Did NFLX Shares Fall?
Bearish sentiment is being driven by the following factors (according to media reports):
→ Cautious guidance from management. Netflix expects revenue growth to slow to 11–13%, compared with 15–16% in 2025.
→ Subscriber growth dynamics. While total subscriber numbers increased to a record level of around 325 million, the pace of growth is slowing. By comparison, the company added roughly 23 million new users in 2025, versus 41 million in 2024.
→ M&A considerations. As we noted on 8 December, Netflix’s share price could be significantly affected by a potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Such a large-scale deal carries risks related to increased debt and adds to uncertainty.
Technical Analysis of the NFLX Chart
In our earlier analysis of Netflix (NFLX) share price action, we identified both ascending and descending channels, noting that:
→ In October, the ascending channel was broken to the downside, with the breakout level around $117 acting as resistance, reinforcing the relevance of the descending trajectory.
→ In December, NFLX shares moved into the lower half of the descending channel, accompanied by rising volumes and accelerating downside momentum — a bearish signal — and settled below the psychological $100 level, which may now act as resistance.
If NFLX trading opens today around $82.50, then:
→ the price will be below the lower boundary of the channel;
→ it will be close to key 2025 lows, which may provide support;
→ oscillators will indicate oversold conditions.
Under these circumstances, a short-term rebound in NFLX shares is possible. However, it appears that more substantial catalysts are required to reverse the current sustained downtrend.

Intel (INTC) Shares Surge Ahead of Earnings Release
Yesterday, Intel (INTC) shares jumped by 11% in a single session, climbing above $54.00 — a level last seen in early 2022.
The sharp rally reflects several factors:
→ the psychological impact of breaking above the $50 threshold;
→ a short squeeze effect;
→ prevailing bullish sentiment ahead of Intel’s earnings report, due to be released after the close of the main trading session today.
Optimism is being driven by:
→ Analyst commentary (notably from HSBC), suggesting that the evolution of AI from simple chatbots to autonomous agents requires massive CPU capacity, not just GPUs. This implies a potential shift in demand away from Nvidia’s products towards Intel’s server chips.
→ Successful implementation of the 18A process technology and strong prospects for Panther Lake processors. Market participants may be expecting Intel to unveil ambitious plans for 2026, signalling the company’s emergence from its recent difficulties.
Technical Analysis of INTC Shares
On the morning of 8 January, when analysing the INTC chart, we:
→ confirmed that the broad long-term channel remains valid;
→ noted that the line dividing the upper half of the channel into two quarters was showing signs of resistance, based on volume analysis;
→ considered the likelihood of a pullback.
As the chart illustrates:
→ a pullback did occur, but it was limited in scope and accompanied by below-average volumes, indicating weak selling pressure;
→ as early as 9 January, bulls viewed the stock as attractive near the trendline (shown in grey) and launched a renewed advance. This move proved successful, with the formation of a wide bullish candle closing at the highs on rising volume. Declining volume during pullbacks and increasing volume on advances is a classic hallmark of a bullish market.
As a result, INTC shares have risen by more than 130% over the past six months. However, it cannot be ruled out that the earnings release may mark a culmination of the uptrend near the upper boundary of the long-term channel.

US Dollar Strengthens After Trump’s Statements on Greenland
During his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Donald Trump softened his stance on claims over Greenland. According to media reports, the US President pledged not to use military force against NATO allies and also withdrew threats to impose tariffs on goods from several European countries. This eased geopolitical tensions, leading not only to a recovery in US equities but also to a strengthening of the US dollar.
The USD/JPY chart, for example, shows the US dollar gaining ground against the yen (marked by the orange arrow), which is under pressure ahead of the Bank of Japan’s interest rate decision scheduled for tomorrow.
Technical Analysis of the USD/JPY Chart
In late December, when analysing movements in the dollar–yen exchange rate, we identified a long-term ascending channel that remains valid (with a slight adjustment to reflect January data).
The lower boundary of this channel continues to act as solid support, but it is under threat because:
→ as indicated by the red arrow, bears are asserting control over the lower internal trendlines within the channel;
→ today’s peak (B) only marginally exceeds the high of 15 January (A). This resembles a bull trap, and a failed attempt to move higher could trigger renewed bearish pressure.
How the situation develops next will largely depend on a dense and rapidly changing news backdrop. In addition to the drivers already mentioned, attention should be paid to the release of US GDP data and initial jobless claims (scheduled for today at 16:30 GMT+3), which could have a significant impact on USD/JPY dynamics.

Natural Gas Prices Surge as Cold Weather Approaches
According to AccuWeather, a powerful Arctic cold front is expected to sweep across the United States, reaching as far south as the southern states and bringing lower temperatures to more than 150 million people across 24 states.
On Thursday, Texas Governor Abbott declared a state of emergency in more than half of the state’s counties ahead of the cold snap. It is worth noting that Texas is home to key natural gas production facilities, while its infrastructure is less adapted to prolonged cold weather.
As a result, market sentiment is being shaped both by expectations of higher natural gas demand for heating and by the risk of technical disruptions to production.
Consequently, the XNG/USD chart shows a sharp rise in natural gas prices, with the move from last week’s low to the recent high amounting to nearly 40%.
Technical Analysis of the XNG/USD Chart
When analysing gas prices on 15 January, we identified a long-term descending channel, highlighted in red on the chart. At that time, we also:
→ noted that prices were hovering near the 2025 low;
→ suggested that bears might attempt to break below the 2025 low, which could have a psychological impact on the market, prompting short sellers to take profits and encouraging renewed buying interest.
Indeed, following a false bearish break of the 2025 low (as indicated by the arrow), prices surged sharply towards the median of the channel, an area where supply and demand often tend to balance.
Moreover, around the 3.330 level, there was a clear period of imbalance in favour of buyers. Bulls broke through the descending trendline resistance, and XNG/USD rose with minimal pullbacks.
From a technical perspective, it is therefore possible that this area may now act as support. However, the actual path of the natural gas market will largely depend on the severity of the cold weather and its impact on conditions across the country.

Tesla (TSLA) Shares Jump After Musk’s Davos Remarks
This year’s Davos Forum has drawn attention not only because of developments around Greenland and Donald Trump’s proposed Peace Council, but also due to the appearance of Elon Musk, who has previously criticised the event. The world’s richest man made bold statements regarding Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots, which became a key talking point.
According to Musk’s vision:
→ Tesla plans to begin selling Optimus robots to the general public by the end of 2027, with an estimated price of $20,000–$30,000, making them cheaper than a car.
→ In the long term, Optimus robots could account for up to 80% of Tesla’s total company value, while the robotics market — where robots may eventually outnumber humans — could generate trillions of dollars in market capitalisation.
These comments acted as strong bullish catalysts, and Tesla (TSLA) shares rose by more than 4% yesterday.
Technical View on TSLA
When analysing Tesla’s share price on 30 December, we:
→ updated the ascending channel that has been in place since summer 2025;
→ highlighted signs of market weakness;
→ suggested that TSLA could decline towards the lower boundary of the rising channel.
Indeed, the lower boundary was reached as early as 8 January. More recent chart data suggests that bulls are now regaining control:
→ a bullish engulfing pattern has formed (marked by the arrow) just below the channel’s lower boundary;
→ yesterday’s session opened with a bullish gap and closed near the highs;
→ trading volumes have been increasing on bullish candles, indicating strengthening demand.
As a result, it appears reasonable to expect that bulls may succeed in pushing TSLA back into the main ascending channel, potentially resuming the move towards the psychological $500 level. Whether this scenario plays out will largely depend on the outcome of Tesla’s quarterly earnings report, scheduled for release on 28 January.

Gold Price Breaks Above $5,000 for the First Time
At the market open on Monday, 26 January, gold prices (XAU/USD) formed a bullish gap and moved above the psychological $5,000 level. The rally then continued, with prices climbing close to $5,100.
Strong bullish momentum across precious metals markets has pushed gold up by around 18% since the start of the year, while silver has surged by approximately 50%.
Why Is Gold Rising?
The bullish tone is being driven by a combination of a weaker US dollar and heightened demand for safe-haven assets, shaped by the current environment:
→ The “Greenland issue”: renewed attempts by the Trump administration to acquire Greenland have escalated into a standoff with the EU, bringing the risk of a trade war.
→ Growing concerns about political pressure on the Federal Reserve and the stability of US monetary policy, given the US President’s intention to push for lower interest rates.
→ Central bank demand, harsh rhetoric from the White House towards Canada following its agreement with China, and ongoing tensions surrounding Iran.
All of this is fuelling an unstoppable bullish market. Under such conditions, is a decline in gold prices even possible?
Technical Analysis of the XAU/USD Chart
Six days ago, on 20 January, when analysing the gold chart, we:
→ constructed an ascending channel;
→ highlighted signs of market overbought conditions;
→ maintained a bullish outlook, suggesting that even if pullback attempts occurred, they were unlikely to be deep and that the boundaries of the rising channel would continue to define the market’s trajectory.
Since then, gold prices have exceeded even the boldest expectations:
→ after reaching overbought levels near the upper boundary (indicated by the first arrow), the market formed only a shallow correction;
→ bulls stepped in near the line dividing the upper half of the channel into quarters (indicated by the next arrow), then demonstrated their strength by pushing prices firmly above the upper boundary.
The steeper angle formed by the green trendlines points to the speculative and euphoric nature of demand.
From a technical perspective, the XAU/USD market is extremely overbought, as confirmed by the RSI indicator, creating the conditions for a corrective move — for example, a retest of the $5,000 psychological level or the bullish gap area around $4,900.
However, against an exceptionally strong fundamental backdrop, revising expectations seems premature. A reversal of the prevailing trend would require truly major and transformative events.
