The Persian Gulf, Hormuz Strait, and Oman Sea continue to remain one of the most challenging regions in terms of maritime security, with a wide variety of threats to vessels operating in the area. Along with military activity and political tensions in the Middle East, and previous incidents on merchant ships have only heightened concerns regarding the safety of navigation in this region.
These threats are constantly evolving and could vary with each subsequent voyage, posing a significant risk to commercial vessels. To address these concerns, maritime industry associations have issued a routing guidance, which can be accessed through the following link - Press / General Releases - INTERTANKO Format: pdf Language: Eng #Middle East #routing #guidance

At the moment, there is no regulatory instrument at international level on the safety aspects of using batteries in ships. This important scope has been left to and evolved through the requirements of class, industry standards and codes with limited requirements and experience from the side of flag states. EMSA with the support of the European Commission, the Member States and the industry has drawn-up this nonmandatory Guidance to guide national administrations and industry, and which aims at a uniform implementation of the essential safety requirements for battery energy storage systems on board of ships.Format:pdf #Guidance #BESS #testing #training

Guidance for Conducting Effective Fire Drills Onboard. Fire drills are a mandatory requirement under SOLAS and a cornerstone of maritime safety, ensuring preparedness, compliance, and crew coordination.
Effective fire drills depend on realistic execution, proper planning, and structured evaluations to build a strong safety culture onboard.
Poorly executed drills can result in confusion, delayed emergency response, and even vessel detention during Port State Control (PSC) inspections.
Fire drills are vital for maritime safety, helping crews prepare for onboard emergencies. Poorly conducted drills can lead to confusion, slower emergency responses, and even vessel detention during Port State Control (PSC) inspections. This guidance outlines practical measures to make fire drills realistic, effective, and fully aligned with the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention. #BritanniaPandI #Guidance #Fire #Drills

To assist vessel owners and contractors in navigating these complex, high-risk environments, IMCA has published the Guidance on Safety in Shipyards (IMCA HSS032, M221 - Rev. 2). This document serves as an indispensable tool, providing a structured, phased approach to safety management from initial planning and auditing through to operational execution and final project closeout. It offers practical checklists and procedures to help companies establish a unified safety standard, bridge documentation requirements, and ultimately ensure a safe and successful project delivery. #IMCA #Safety #ShipYard #Guidance
