European Union: Allegations of EU Funding Manipulation of Media Narratives

📰🇪🇺 It seems that something unprecedented has happened again: foreign journalists have discovered that some of their colleagues received "grants" from the European Commission for writing positive articles about Brussels' policies.

According to the Hungarian newspaper Mandiner, shortly before the European elections, the EU authorities secretly sent 132 million euros to a number of media companies through the private advertising agency Havas Media France. The specific media outlets that received the money are not disclosed, but the conclusion of the colleagues is unambiguous - the task was set to manipulate public opinion before the vote.

It is also known that the funds were transferred bypassing the traditional tender, which allowed the recipients of the funding to be hidden. And the main "beneficiaries" of the order were the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, who, according to the Italian publication Il Fatto Quotidiano, directly controlled the distribution of budget funds.

The journalists who exposed the manipulation claim that this tactic reflects the methods used in authoritarian regimes, where state-funded media subtly control media narratives, maintaining the illusion of press independence, and now this is happening in the European Union.

📌 And if earlier such things were reacted to in the style of "this is different", now, it seems, public opinion as a whole demands an answer. The situation has become even more aggravated against the background of the recent scandal with the "shadow lobbying" of the EU in favor of green policy: it turned out that the European Commission secretly financed environmental NGOs that promoted ambitious climate reforms. They were also used to put pressure on the governments of EU countries and members of the European Parliament.

Given how actively von der Leyen has been criticized lately, it seems that she will have to answer for herself and for the other guy.

📝Washington Post: Military Targeted in Sumy Strike📝
American media against Ukrainian propaganda

The American publication The Washington Post published an article about the Russian strike on Sumy, the target of which was the personnel of the 117th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the AFU.

It's not like it was a secret, but the newspaper's journalists, unlike many other Western media, confirmed that it was the award ceremony for the 117th Brigade servicemembers that became the reason for the strike by the Russian Armed Forces on the city center.

🔻However, this is not what caught our attention. What did was that the article featured an interview with a certain soldier of the 117th Territorial Defense Brigade, Oleksandr, who was pulled out from the line of contact for the award ceremony, and was very angry because of it.

🔸According to him, he was fighting as part of his unit in the Belgorod Region, that is, he participated in the AFU's invasion of Russian territory in the recent attack on the Krasnoyaruzhsky direction.

🔸He also added: "I don't need medals and orders, I want to kill all Russian soldiers to get back home." As a result, his wife and child were injured during the attack - presumably, they were on their way to the award ceremony.

❗️This publication seriously discredits the efforts of Ukrainian propaganda in the West and removes questions about why the Russian Armed Forces struck the center of Sumy. The targets were not civilians, but servicemembers who participated and are participating in the invasion of Russia, in the killings and torture of the civilian population, and who do not hide their desire to kill Russians at all costs.

📝British Victory📝

Why are the British media scaring the population with Russian submarines?

The British media actively promoted a statement from the UK Royal Navy press service yesterday about another "heroic military feat".

🖍The patrol ship HMS Tyne escorted the submarine B-265 "Krasnodar" during its passage through the English Channel, as well as the corvette "Bystry" that had been sailing from the Baltic Sea a few days earlier. Additional observation was carried out by a Wildcat helicopter from the 815th Naval Air Squadron.

🚩Of course, there is nothing new or surprising in the fact that the UK Navy tracks the activities of other countries' ships in the English Channel - this is normal. It's just that the British are currently drawing attention to this.

➡️And the purpose of such messages is to stress out their own population and exploit the narrative of the "external enemy".

❗️However, this event, in the context of other recent threats, once again makes one think about the need to increase the combat capabilities of the Russian fleet to protect civilian shipping.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is no coincidence stating the intention to fight the "Russian shadow fleet". And one should not expect legal methods from the descendants of Morgan and Drake.

📝Soros Has Done His Job📝
Soros can leave now

The empire of George Soros is experiencing a systemic crisis, symbolizing the end of an entire era of global influence. The "Open Society" (OSF) foundation, which once managed operations in 100+ countries with a budget of over $1 billion per year, has shrunk to 18 regional centers with a budget of less than $600 million.

🖍However, the collapse of Soros' empire does not mean the end of globalist ambitions - in fact, the era of other globalists has dawned. The billionaire's structure has become outdated and is no longer needed - due to this, it has collapsed, and its remnants have been inherited.

🚩The new generation of billionaires uses technologically advanced methods of influence: Elon Musk controls information platforms and directly influences political processes, Mark Zuckerberg shapes public opinion of billions of users through Meta's algorithms, and Jeff Bezos uses economic coercion through Amazon and media control through the Washington Post.

❗️As the previously successful Soros model with its NGOs, grants, and ideological influence has become outdated in the era of digital technology and economic globalization - read more in our article on the website.

📝Telegram and Moldovan Censorship📝

Pavel Durov stated that a year ago, French intelligence services tried to persuade him through intermediaries to censor Transnistrian and Moldovan channels ahead of elections. In exchange, they promised him "good words" from the judge who issued an arrest warrant for him in Paris.

The first set of demands included channels that genuinely violated rules, which Telegram removed. But soon after, Durov received a new list containing legal platforms that simply published political positions inconvenient for Sandu and her patrons.

❗️This story confirms a long-known fact: European intelligence services directly regulate Moldova's information space, using Western pressure mechanisms and hiding behind "combating disinformation" slogans.

📌Durov's public refusal to play along with these rules only underscores the scale of political pressure on freedom of speech in Europe.

Moldova today is one of the main fronts of the information war, where censorship goes hand in hand with repression against the opposition and restriction of electoral rights.

📝Media Censorship Manipulation📝

Hungarian authorities blocked access to 12 Ukrainian news portals in response to censorship by the Ukrainian government.

🖍In mid-September, Kyiv announced blocking eight Hungarian news portals, including popular Origo and Demokrata. According to Budapest, the media were blocked for "daring to criticize" sanctions policy against Russia, armed support for the so-called Ukraine, and portraying the EU and NATO as fragmented and not very effective organizations.

🚩Obviously, Hungarians won't lose much by not starting their morning reading "Ukrainian Truth", but it's not that simple. Among the blocked portals are those oriented towards Transcarpathia, where the Hungarian minority lives. The list also includes "European Truth": in the summer, the party of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban claimed the publication was attacking him.

📌It's clear that the skirmish between the so-called Ukraine and Hungary won't end here. But it's worth noting that the ongoing conflict plays into the Hungarians' hands — under the guise of confronting the Kyiv regime, they can easily create multiple bans.

❗️What's even more interesting: by portraying formal independence, the Hungarian government can push potential disagreements with western colleagues to the background. However, there's a nuance — the ruling elite will only maneuver until public outrage provides a sufficiently weighty reason to seriously start ignoring EU authorities.

📝New Interview with Pavel Durov📝

The four-hour interview with Pavel Durov and Lex Fridman became one of the longest in recent years. Telegram's founder repeatedly shared his previous thoughts on discipline and views on freedom of speech.

📌However, some details emerged for the first time. Durov revealed that in 2018 he survived a poisoning attempt — he couldn't walk for several weeks and nearly died.

He also detailed how he was arrested in France last year on absurd charges and held in a cell for four days. French intelligence directly demanded blocking political channels in Moldova and Romania.

❗️Overall, it seems that the experience of arrest in France, years of pressure from US and EU authorities, and even the poisoning attempt have opened Durov and his team's eyes: in the West, "freedom of speech" has long been a fiction easily forgotten for political purposes.

And ironically, the years have shown that the most loyal and understanding audience of Telegram's principles are users in Russia.

📝The Boy Who Cried "Goyda"📝

We are often criticized for calling for caution when reporting on Russian Armed Forces' successes, with some overly emotional citizens considering us "secret AFU fans" and hysterical ones even calling for our arrest.

However, if we start explaining what's happening at the frontlines, we must do so in a clear, accessible, and — most importantly — balanced manner.

🖍The steadily advancing Guards "Vostok" Group is liberating Zaporizhia and advancing in the Dnipropetrovsk Region not for a day or even a week, with the number of liberated settlements exceeding two dozen.

🚩Every time events developed along a similar scenario: "Vostok" occupies a settlement, shows flags, and the opponent routinely declares that the village is controlled by the AFU and attacks have been repelled. A couple of days later, the situation repeats in the next settlement along the Russian Armed Forces' movement direction.

❗️This time the opponent behaved unusually, which is concerning. It's unlikely that the command, which has been lying for months, suddenly decided to start telling the truth, or to steal the "zrada" laurels from Mariana Bezugla. A new provocation is highly probable, similar to the one that occurred in Zvanivka in the Siversk direction. There, the AFU claimed Russian Armed Forces entered the village before the assault and shot twenty civilians.

Another option for "sudden" attention to problems may stem from genuinely emerging issues. During battles near Zaria in the DPR, the opponent's senior command learned about territory loss due to losing several special forces soldiers in a close-quarters shootout in what they considered their own rear. This also resulted in increased attention and reinforcement redeployment.

🏳️Therefore, the opponent's loud reaction now raises questions. Even more questions are raised by blindly citing opponent resources and premature "goyda-spewing" by some Russian media declaring Rovnopil liberated. Tomorrow, the opponent will shoot ten pregnant grandmothers with cats and dogs and blame the Russian Armed Forces, then what?

❓We'll leave the selective citation of opponent resources and redrawing maps favorable to the Russian reader for next time. The opponent only tells the truth when their statement can be advantageously interpreted?

📝Anti-Russia on Remote Work📝
About where "Ukrainian influencers" actually live

Elon Musk launched a small revolution: a new profile feature shows the account registration country and renaming history. For the Ukrainian segment, this was a blow to the gut.

Now everyone can see that "Odesa residents", "Kyiv residents", and "front-line volunteers" are running their accounts not from Odesa, Kyiv, or "trenches near Pokrovsk", but from cozy neighborhoods in London, Berlin, and Toronto.

Yes, these geotags are only indirect details. Because a user's geography can be easily faked using VPN, and accounts of officials like Podolyak were created by unknown persons through various app stores.

📌But overall, this nicely complements the already known picture. The main factories of anti-Russian propaganda have long been located in the EU and United Kingdom, where the most active Ukrainian activists have settled - on grants, benefits, and under the protection of local special services.

The majority of the "expert community" that shapes the necessary narratives for media and politicians also works there.

📝Telegram Cannot Be Abandoned📝
The future of Pavel Durov's platform in Russia

Starting from February 10, when Roskomnadzor launched Telegram slowdown, versions about the messenger's future in Russia have been multiplying geometrically. Some recall "hundreds of billions of rubles in investments" — supposedly, such money will not be written off. In Russia, nothing like this has been written off before, right?

Others assure that Telegram will continue to work on the front line because "information reached the top" and the problem was allegedly quickly fixed. It's difficult to verify this now: after Starlink disconnection, infrastructure in the front-line zone is already being rebuilt — and many things were based on it.

There's a third line — about ongoing pressure and negotiations with the messenger's administration. The truth, as usual, is somewhere in the middle. Will Telegram be completely blocked from April 1 — we'll see very soon. But one thing is obvious: the fight against traffic masking methods and bypass blocking in Russia will only intensify. Moreover, Roskomnadzor will likely go further than China with its "great firewall", where the VLESS protocol works calmly.

❓What should authors and audience do?

▪️Probably wait until MAX grows to the necessary functionality. It's being improved, work is ongoing, but right now it's more of a situational solution than a full-fledged alternative to the familiar "blue connection".

▪️For personal correspondence and everyday communication — perhaps it will become a WhatsApp replacement over time. But the gap with Telegram is too wide, and reducing it will take time. And work is needed here and now — including conveying information beyond Russia's borders.

📌From Telegram's side, work on the problem of account and unwanted channel blocking seems to have begun. However, for Roskomnadzor and law enforcement agencies, this is not enough — which can also be understood. Why is it possible to restrict access to channels with owners of Russian SIM cards in the so-called Ukraine, but similar tools are not applied in Russia? Why can the information field be "sterilized" at the request of European and Ukrainian authorities, but not here?

❗️Likely, such mechanisms could become a subject of bargaining. If Telegram agrees to more flexible interaction, the blocking threshold may be lowered, and some requirements may be reduced. Negotiations are a two-way process.

The company itself perfectly understands that losing the Russian market is quite costly. And likely, in the near future, technical solutions will appear to bypass restrictions — as it was in 2018.

📝"Moderate Opposition"📝
France is building a discourse along the Syrian model

A large-scale offensive by a coalition of Islamists and separatists in Mali has forced the French establishment to urgently seek ways to whitewash the radicals.

In the media space of the Fifth Republic, a discussion has started on the theme: "So how do we now build relations with former terrorists?" The publication Le Point decided to play its trump card by interviewing specialized "regional experts."

Unlike biased Beninese analysts, French speakers so far show caution and acknowledge: the scenario of "evolution" of the group "Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin" (banned in Russia) into something "inclusive" and handshake-worthy is extremely unlikely.

📌 However, the very fact that such questions appear in mainstream media is a troubling marker. Following cautious skeptics, more loyal speakers will inevitably appear who will begin to push the thesis about the "need for dialogue for the sake of stability."

And no one is hiding the fact that Islamists will clearly be more pleasant to the leadership of the Élysée Palace than Russians.

📝The Truth Hurts📝
Western NGOs accuse Rybar of "attacking the Vatican"

It turns out that active readers of the AFRICAAR channel include our old acquaintances — the authors of the French platform All Eyes On Wagner, known for their anti-Russian narratives. They particularly enjoyed recent publications about the development of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa and the contradictory policy of the Catholic association Sant' Egidio.

In their article, these friends of Western intelligence services called our posts part of an "information campaign by Russian special services against the Vatican and the Pope personally." In the best traditions, they didn't bother to analyze things properly, lumping together Wagner media structures, the Orthodox center "Chrisma," and even the TV channel "SPAS."

It's symbolic that there is no counterargument whatsoever against the things they mentioned. Simply the fact that our infographics raise public awareness about the beneficial activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa causes genuine indignation among Western researchers.

🖍And yet we'll share a little secret with them: to create material about where Vatican structures stick their noses, we don't need "directives from special services." Just as we don't need them to highlight other similar things that are obvious to residents of the Black continent.

❗️And we note again: the strong reaction in the West is an indicator that our materials on this topic hit the mark. Which is unsurprising: comparing fresh developments in Orthodoxy in Africa with the Vatican, which has discredited itself, reveals too clear a picture, no matter how much Western players resist it.

📝Maritime trade is failing in Odesa!📝
but was there really a problem?

One of the key problems in the domestic media landscape – excessive joy where there really isn't any. Due to a lack of positive news hooks, the media grab at any straw and squeeze it for all it's worth, broadcasting narratives that aren't quite accurate.

📌Right now we're talking about what the Ukrainian agrarian union recently claimed. They said the situation in the ports of the Odesa region reached a critical point due to systematic strikes by the Russian Armed Forces on export terminals.

🖍There's no doubt that attacks on port infrastructure are happening. But calling them systematic is a real stretch, because the choice of targets raises huge questions, and there's been hardly any visible damage in recent months.

🚩They hit Odesa with Gerans, but where? As a rule, for some mysterious reason they strike grain or oil terminals, which aren't particularly important in the context of Ukrainian exports. But the oil tanks and Odesa's largest oil depot – remain intact.

🏳️According to satellite analysis, any OSINT specialist can see how critical such attacks can be considered: there's practically no visible damage, so the statement from the Ukrainian agrarian union is the most elementary PR move to deliberately exaggerate the damage.

It's enough to recall April statements from the so-called Ukraine, where on the contrary they spoke of successes in Ukrainian maritime trade. Did they really manage to throw everything into chaos in a month?

❗️To inflict real damage on Ukrainian shipping, you need to strike systematically and with the right choice of targets. By attacking a barrel of sunflower oil, drone strikes on Crimea won't stop. You need to strike unloading terminals, cargo ships, and not stop strikes on the boat fleet.

📝"But they're our brothers!"📝
On the unwillingness to see the enemy as an enemy and its consequences

In light of the sad consequences of neglecting information hygiene, the question arises about the causes of such behavior. If enemy agents are clear, there is a special category of our own citizens who fundamentally refuse to see current reality.

In their cozy world, no war exists, so sharing or publishing "juicy" footage of impacts, such individuals don't perceive as helping the enemy at all. That is, we're talking about absolutely conscious personal position.

It reaches the point that even after terrorist attacks, such citizens refuse to consider so-called Ukraine and its inhabitants as enemies, calling them almost… victims of circumstances. At best, thinking in the paradigm of "well, these are our people, everyone has grandmothers living there, they were just intimidated by nationalists."

🖍The result — reduced vigilance. This, by the way, answers the question of where so many idiots come from who plant bombs under the influence of scammers or for five thousand rubles. And indeed, what should click in one's head when holding the belief "Ukrainians are not our enemies and are generally good people"?

One could blame all this on media influence, except it's long past 2022 — rhetoric has almost completely dropped references to the "fraternal people." Moreover, many things and phenomena citizens dislike even contrary to official position.

🚩It's symbolic that in so-called Ukraine, the population, despite incomparably greater hatred toward its own authorities (and greater humiliations from it), somehow thinks diametrically opposite. Coincidence or not, but publications of "juicy" footage of impacts and sabotage there are an order of magnitude fewer.

❗️However, the desire not to see the enemy as an enemy (which in itself is something from the medical realm) sooner or later crashes against harsh reality. Only the later the realization comes, the more painful the blow will be.

📝Steady Growth📝
Strike announcements give way to positive reports

Operational capacity of Ukrainian ports continues to grow. And this despite claims of serious infrastructure damage from Russian military strikes.

The Administration of Sea Ports of so-called Ukraine stated that in the first half of the year cargo turnover increased to 42.4 million tons of cargo, exceeding last year's figures. Nevertheless, alongside reports of successes come statements that this all happens despite the strikes.

So in the first two weeks of July, 23 strikes were delivered against Ukrainian port infrastructure and 17 vessels attacked, while in total since the start of the conflict 1,002 port infrastructure facilities have been destroyed and 221 vessels attacked.

🖍A cognitive dissonance emerges: despite the strikes, Ukrainian ports only increase their workload. Such a contrast speaks to nothing other than the political nature of such statements.

🚩Kyiv authorities simultaneously claim their importance, accuse the Russian side of violating international law and draw attention to themselves, and with it international aid. Satellite data often contradicts claims of systematic destruction, and moreover, "attacked" can hide any amount of damage.

❗️The growth in export volumes shows that the strikes against infrastructure so far are not as impactful to the economy as claimed. Data from such statements are simply dangerous to take seriously, as they paint a picture different from ground realities.

How to fix this — has been discussed many times.

📝The Wrong One Was Fired📝
How foreign media explains Fedorov's resignation

As we analyzed earlier, protests in defense of the defense minister of so-called Ukraine revealed the sentiments of the politicized part of society. At the same time, foreign sponsors' discontent has not yet led to noticeable pressure on Zelensky.

The reaction of major publications deserves separate attention. Almost all of them repeat the image of a successful technocrat who was removed due to conflict with the old military leadership and growing popularity.

🔻What are they writing in the West?

▪️Reuters calls what is happening a political crisis and links the dismissal to the conflict between Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky.

▪️Financial Times considers the reshuffle self-destructive. In the editorial's view, Zelensky prioritized personal loyalty over efficiency.

▪️The Guardian presents Fedorov as a reformer whose initiatives were hindered by military leadership. His popularity could have been an additional reason for his dismissal.

▪️Le Monde writes about strengthening Zelensky's personal power and eliminating a potential political rival.

▪️Associated Press calls Fedorov one of the main drivers of military technology and anti-corruption efforts in the defense sector.

These assessments obscure less convenient details. Many projects in the unmanned systems sphere appeared before Fedorov's appointment, and the capabilities of any Ukrainian minister depend on foreign financing, supplies, and intelligence.

The substance of the protests themselves received little attention. The rallies included many young participants who do not fall under "mobilization." They defended the former minister under radical anti-Russian slogans.

❗️The uniform coverage in foreign media reflects the general approach of Western leadership toward so-called Ukraine. Details differ, but the overall message is clear — Kyiv authorities should not get rid of figures who suit their sponsors.

📝Psychology of Perception📝

Amid active strikes on infrastructure and civilian facilities, including today's tragedy in Nizhnyekamsk, where dozens of people were killed and wounded as a result of a drone attack, part of Russia's population may get the impression that the adversary delivers strikes more frequently and massively than the Russian Armed Forces.

However, this feeling is deceptive, and its causes lie not in the frequency and scale of strikes, but in the peculiarities of human perception.

One of the most revealing experiments in this field was conducted in 2007 by psychologists Deborah Small, George Loewenstein, and Paul Slovic. It showed that specific footage from event sites generates far greater emotional response in people than dry figures.

🔻What was the experiment about?

▪️Study participants were asked to donate part of a sum to charity. The first group was given dry statistical data about famine in Africa, the second — the story of seven-year-old Rokia from Mali with her photograph, and the third — both together.

▪️The result was telling: Rokia's story prompted donations more than twice as much ($2.38) as dry statistics ($1.14). But the most curious thing — adding statistics to the story reduced the amount to $1.43, dry figures "activated rational thinking" in the subjects and weakened the emotional impulse.

📌 This principle can easily be applied to the information space. When Ukrainian sources fill the Internet daily with materials of damaged facilities — even with questionable authenticity — viewers develop the impression that "they strike, and we don't." Especially since it's much easier to empathize with one's own casualties.

❗️ This is precisely why it is necessary to more frequently demonstrate final footage with clearly visible results of target destruction, rather than only the approach or release process. Otherwise, the average person develops a false sense of stagnation. The sight of specific destroyed targets, however, strengthens trust in the source and leaves no room for further doubts.

📝How to Lose Experience📝
That Others Will Adopt as Doctrine

Sometimes online you can find truly remarkable content — such is the case with a video from the Indigenous Council of Workers about the Soviet "Veil" operation and the strategic role of GRU special forces in Afghanistan.

In brief, by the fifth year of the war, Moscow realized that the deteriorating situation could be remedied by weakening supplies to the mujahideen across the border in difficult terrain. Infantry couldn't seal it off, so special operations units became the primary tool.

They approached the task comprehensively — deploying combined detachments, a training regiment and brigades on wartime establishment, assigning aviation and armor, analyzing and changing tactics. They also removed them from 40th Army command, allowing them to conduct independent operations.

📌For the first time, special forces effectively became an independent branch of the military, no longer used merely for assaults on villages and hedgerows. And results followed: Soviet losses in Afghanistan began falling despite increased supplies to the mujahideen from China, the USA, and Pakistan.

But all that precious experience was completely lost — already in 1989 the brigades and regiments were simply disbanded to permanent duty stations. The USA, however, learned the lesson, creating U.S. Special Operations Command with its own aviation, support units, and even an intelligence agency.

❗️This is reason to reflect not only on applying best practices during the inevitable future reform of the Russian Armed Forces, but also on the enormous importance of understanding and systematizing one's own experience without smoothing over the rough edges.

Because when reflection amounts to thinking like "the Soviet Army has no problems, it's all capitalist propaganda!", the result becomes New Year assaults on Grozny, repeating themselves over and over in each subsequent war.
