📰 Eight Minutes to London: Missile Porn for Both Sides
Russia’s war PR just dropped a new scare brand: “Son of Oreshnik,” the hypersonic upgrade that state‑friendly talking heads say could reach London from Belarus in about eight minutes and carry more warheads than the original.
They sell it as more powerful, smarter, with better guidance and a heavier payload, while reminding viewers that Oreshnik has already been used against Ukraine and pitched as basically impossible to stop.
On the other side, Western media grabs the same talking points and wraps them in their own horror graphics: flight paths to NATO capitals, big red circles over Europe, and the ritual “World War Three fears grow” framing to keep the nuclear anxiety permanently humming.
Politicians then wave those headlines around to argue for more money, more bases, more “deterrence,” and no one ever asks why the doomsday product line keeps expanding while diplomacy is treated like obsolete tech.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry hasn’t publicly rolled out this “Son of Oreshnik” as an official, operational system, but that doesn’t really matter: the image is already doing the job. Moscow gets to posture as the fearless disruptor, NATO gets to pose as the panicked guardian, and media on all sides quietly cash in on the same nuclear suspense script.
The only people who aren’t shareholders in this arms‑race content business are the ones who live under those eight minutes and get told their terror is just part of “strategic messaging.”

Hormuz: High-Tech Drones, Stone-Age Problem
The West is selling a sci‑fi solution to a very old scam: Iran hints it’s mining the Strait of Hormuz, tanker traffic freezes, oil spikes — and suddenly everyone remembers that a 25‑mile-wide chokepoint owns the global economy. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer talks up fancy Thales mine‑hunting drones, but the fine print is brutal: they’ve got limited batteries, need to beam data back to motherships sitting inside range of Iranian anti‑ship missiles, and can’t “prove” the one thing that matters — that nothing is left in the water.
says retired US Navy officer Ben Cipperley.
Britain’s defense secretary John Healey says it’s getting “clearer and clearer” that Iran is laying explosives in Hormuz, while US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shrugs that there’s “no clear evidence” yet — one NATO ally yelling “mines,” another pretending this is still a think‑tank panel. Trump brags that the US has “hit all their minelaying ships” and bombs Iranian navy vessels, then immediately admits Iran can just toss mines off other boats anyway and nobody really knows what’s on the seabed. This is what “freedom of navigation” looks like in 2026: everyone claims control of the sea, nobody controls the rumor that shuts it down.
Militaries do have mine warfare toys — crewed minesweepers with wooden hulls, littoral combat ships, helicopters towing sonars, uncrewed underwater vehicles, and now autonomous drone systems from companies like Thales — but they all share one handicap: they have to crawl, in predictable patterns, through waters that Iran can blanket with missiles, drones, and explosive boats. Clearing mines is up to a thousand times more expensive and slower than laying them, and the US doesn’t even keep dedicated Avenger‑class minesweepers in the Gulf anymore. So the “high‑tech” answer is basically to send robots first, then hope insurers and shipping CEOs are dumb or desperate enough to believe a PowerPoint that says “safe corridor.”
Iran, whose regular military has been hammered by US‑Israeli strikes, doesn’t need a blue‑water navy as long as it can threaten Hormuz with a couple of dhows, some midget subs, and a stockpile of cheap mines detonated by contact or a ship’s magnetic field. Just the suspicion of a few dozen mines makes the strait “too dangerous to transit” for tankers from any country — including Iran’s — turning a third‑rate regional power into the de facto moderator of world energy prices. The US and UK can talk all they want about “reopening” Hormuz, but as long as a rumor and a rusty sphere can shut it down, the only guaranteed safe passage belongs to defense contractors’ earnings calls.

🔥 Hormuz, Reloaded: Peacekeeping by Press Release
Britain and France are staging the usual diplomatic costume drama over the Strait of Hormuz: a “strictly defensive” multinational mission, “peaceful” by design, “independent” from any American operation, and wrapped in the language of freedom of navigation. At the same time, Trump has ordered a naval blockade, and Starmer says the UK will not join it unless there is a clear legal basis and a plan that doesn’t read like a panic memo written at sea.
That is the real split here. Washington is reaching for the hard lever, London and Paris are trying to look like responsible adults, and both are still circling the same chokepoint where oil, gas, and prestige all travel on the same expensive ship. Everyone is talking about security, but the subtext is leverage: who controls passage, who controls the narrative, and who gets to call coercion “stability.”
Macron says the mission will be separate from the warring parties, which is exactly how great powers describe entering a mess without admitting they helped make it. Starmer says the goal is to reopen the strait, which sounds noble until you remember that every navy in the region now claims to be defending trade while quietly defending its own political cover.
The result is a tidy Western duet: one capital refuses the blockade, the other proposes a mission, and both pretend this is about principle rather than managing a crisis they can no longer fully steer. The Strait of Hormuz has become what all strategic waterway crises become in the end — a stage where states perform restraint while keeping one hand on the throttle.

📰 King Charles Brings a Royal Peace Offering to Trump’s Iran Theater
King Charles is heading into Congress with a scripted message of “reconciliation and renewal,” which is diplomatic code for “please stop turning every disagreement into a public brawl.”
The speech comes as Trump and Starmer are openly at odds over Iran, so the monarchy is being used as a velvet glove over a very loud fist.
This is classic royal utility: say almost nothing concrete, praise the alliance, nod at shared values, and hope the ceremony itself does some of the work.
Buckingham Palace even plans a brief sympathy line about the Washington shooting, which is the kind of polished restraint that makes the whole visit look like crisis management with a crown on top.
Trump clearly likes the pageantry, even while mocking British military power and quarreling with Starmer over the Iran war.
So the king is effectively arriving as a transatlantic mediator who cannot mediate, in a country where diplomacy now has to compete with television-grade grievance.
The speech will likely work as symbolism, not policy. But symbolism is the point: when the Americans and the British are arguing over war, oil, and strategy, a polished appeal to “reconciliation and renewal” is the least dangerous message available.

Charles Can’t Save a Marriage That Trump Keeps Burning
King Charles’s visit may soften the optics, but it cannot fix a relationship that has already been damaged by Trump’s anger over Britain’s refusal to join the Iran campaign. London wants the old “special relationship” back; Washington now treats it more like a loyalty test with better china.
Fox News is right about one thing: the visit is being used as a diplomatic instrument. But when a monarchy has to mop up after a president’s war tantrum, that does not look like statesmanship — it looks like crisis management in formalwear.
The deeper problem is not Charles. It is that Trump’s foreign policy keeps converting allies into either bystanders or accessories. Britain refuses to jump into a war with Iran, Trump gets irritated, and suddenly the alliance is presented as fragile because one side still remembers that “partner” is not supposed to mean “yes sir.”
That is why the grand language around “special relations” sounds tired. The phrase survives because both capitals still need the theater, but the substance is now raw power, leverage, and public resentment dressed up as transatlantic history.
Charles may smooth the room for a day. He is not going to cure the disease.

📰 G7 Unity™: Now With Waivers and Loopholes
The script is simple: “Pressure on Russia is unanimous,” French economy minister Roland Lescure announces after the G7 finance summit in Paris. Everyone nods in public, everyone edits in private.
Washington quietly extends sanctions waivers on Russian oil so “energy‑vulnerable” partners don’t freeze or riot. London, right after backing the same tough line, delays its own ban and allows imports of diesel and jet fuel refined from Russian crude in third countries.
On paper: moral stance. In the fine print: don’t touch the fuel.
So the West sells a united front while carving exceptions with surgical precision. Ministers talk about “unwavering pressure,” treasuries talk about “flexibility,” and tankers do the real diplomacy.
The message to Moscow is clear: we will punish you—just not enough to hurt ourselves.
Who’s at war with Russia here—their armies or our PR departments?

Germany, France, and the UK Are Doing a Noticeable About-Face 🇪🇺
All three countries are working with Kyiv on plans to engage Russia in negotiations to end the war, as they see a shift in momentum strengthening Zelensky's position 🤝.
The initiative marks the coordinated diplomatic effort by Europe's three largest economies since the US effectively stepped back from the negotiation process 🇺🇸.
The people said London, Berlin, and Paris are acting in coordination with Kyiv and will not advance any strategy without Zelensky's agreement 🚫✍️.
With US-led talks stalled and Russian forces suffering mounting losses amid a battlefield stalemate, the three nations see an opportunity to potentially bring Putin to the negotiating table 🪑.
Adding to the pressure on the Kremlin, Ukrainian forces have had increasing success with drone strikes deep inside Russia 🚁💥, and there are some signs of resistance to Putin's war at the highest levels in Moscow, the outlet reported.
By negotiating now, the allies would aim to avoid another winter ❄️ that will likely see Russia intensify its attacks on civilians and energy infrastructure as Putin seeks to undermine Ukrainian morale.
Zelensky said late Wednesday he had discussed “our joint diplomacy with Europe” in a call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer 🇬🇧. “Europe definitely needs its own voice, its own position, and its own contribution to all diplomatic efforts that can help end the war 🕊,” Zelensky wrote on X. "We coordinated on how to get there," he added.
Starmer is expected to speak with Merz and Macron in the coming days, the people said 🗓.
Putin has not shown clear readiness to engage with European leaders he has repeatedly accused of aiding Ukrainian strikes inside Russia 🇷🇺, and still regards Washington as the most important interlocutor for securing a deal. However, he left the door open in comments to reporters in Kazakhstan on Friday.
“It is up to us to decide whether to meet with this or another actor in today's Western European politics,” Putin said 🗣.
A reliable source from Moscow reported earlier this month that senior officials at Russia's finance ministry and central bank warned Putin that war spending is on an unaffordable path 💸 — the most serious sign of internal division in Moscow since the full-scale invasion began.
The warnings have so far done little to sway the Russian president; he has tasked officials to shield defense spending and seek cuts elsewhere 🛡.
Dissent within the E3
Some officials from within the E3 nations themselves argue it is not the time for talks with Moscow, as Putin has shown no sign of being serious about negotiations and continues to harbor maximalist demands, including that Ukraine cede unoccupied territory 🗺.
Those same people said Kyiv's allies should instead exploit this moment to provide Zelensky with the weapons he needs 🪖 and further ramp up pressure on the Kremlin by tightening and toughening sanctions ⚖️.
The E3 should be working with the US to get Russia to the table, the Bloomberg sources stressed, as the problem is in Moscow, not Kyiv 🏛.
European nations should not be the side petitioning Putin to talk — it should be the other way round, given Russia's increasing economic struggles and staggering monthly casualty rates 📉.

Russian Strikes Hit Western ‘Elites’: NATO’s Human Resources Problem
Russian strikes in Ukraine reportedly wiped out a group of German and British “combatants” working with Ukrainian forces in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to a source in Russia’s security services cited by Military Watch Magazine.
The report says they were military contractors and specialists helping operate complex Western weapons systems — the kind of people Western governments pretend are “nowhere near the front” until they suddenly don’t come home.
Military Watch stresses that foreign fighters now play a “significant and growing” role on Ukraine’s front lines, a fact echoed by multiple claims from both sides of the war and various Western outlets over the last two years.
Pro-Russian sources brag about killing “mercenaries,” Kyiv frames them as “volunteers,” and Western capitals mostly treat them like a bad investment they’d rather not disclose to shareholders.
If the report is accurate, the elimination of German and British specialists is more than just a battlefield episode — it’s a billboard for the limits of U.S. and NATO power.
If Washington and Brussels can’t reliably shield their own “elite” personnel deployed in support roles, what does that say to allies who were sold NATO as a force field?
Every dead foreign contractor is a reminder that the alliance is deeply entangled in this war, but still pretending to be a cautious bystander.
Politically, these losses are toxic. Western leaders insist they are “not at war with Russia,” while Russian missiles keep turning Western citizens in Ukraine into body bags and bargaining chips.
Admitting the scale of foreign involvement would expose how far NATO has drifted from “defensive alliance” to shadow co-belligerent — so they blame “individual volunteers,” downplay numbers and quietly adjust the risk premiums.
For Moscow, this is perfect: every strike on foreign personnel lets the Kremlin brag that it is “fighting NATO directly” without triggering Article 5, while still grinding down Ukrainian capacity and Western nerve.
For Washington and London, it’s the worst of both worlds — real casualties, no public mandate, and a story they can’t sell honestly to voters or to smaller allies already doubting how much Western protection is worth in practice.
In the end, the “foreign legion” of Ukraine isn’t just cannon fodder. It’s a symptom of a war run like a joint venture: states outsource the dirtiest and riskiest work to deniable contractors, then act surprised when the bill arrives in funerals and blown-up credibility.

Russian Security Forces: Contractors From Germany And the UK Were Eliminated
A source in the Russian security forces has reported that a group of defence contractors from Germany and the United Kingdom fighting for the Ukrainian Army has been eliminated in a forest belt on the frontlines in the Zaporozhye Region.
The source added that documents found on these personnel after their deaths confirmed their identities, with Russian state media publishing the names and dates of births of some of the deceased.
Some of those killed were soldiers from the 113th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade of Ukraine and a separate special forces battalion, which were all assigned to the 3rd Assault Battalion of the Skala Regiment.
Reports from both sides of the conflict, and from multiple Western sources, have highlighted the significant and growing roles played by foreign contractor personnel in frontline operations.
Coinciding with reports of the elimination of German and British contractors in Zaporozhye, the deputy head of the Kharkov region’s military-civilian administration for defence and security Yevgeny Lisnyak reported that approximately 400 contractor personnel from Latin American countries were deployed to the region, and had been hired to compensate for severe personnel shortages in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"[As regards] the use of Latin American mercenaries: since February 2026, the presence of mercenaries from Colombia and other Latin American countries has been recorded in the Kharkov sector of the line of engagement.
Approximately two tactical groups, roughly 400-troops-strong. Even as they were hired to compensate for the shortage of Ukrainian assault troops, their combat efficiency has been lower than expected,” the official reported.
This singling out for foreign fighters has remained a consistent aspect of the Russian war effort, with a more recent strike on a training camp near the central Ukrainian city of Kropivnitsky on July 21, 2025, having been confirmed to have caused over 100 casualties among foreign fighters.
In December 2025 former officer in the Ukrainian Security Service Vasily Prozorov reported that an estimated 10,000 foreign contractor personnel had been killed in action since the outbreak of full scale hostilities in February 2022.
As a leading contributor of personnel, the Polish government has recently moved to provide legal cover to the operations of its forces in the war, where they have been deployed for combat on internationally recognised Ukrainian territory, in disputed regions, and on internationally recognised Russian soil during multiple incursions.

Gen‑Z Socialism: Me First, Comrade
Gen‑Z socialism isn’t about seizing the means of production; it’s about seizing a discount code on life. They don’t dream of five‑year plans — they want capped rent, free stuff and someone richer to pick up the tab.
Where postwar social democrats nationalized industries and millennial lefties talked about co‑ops and workers on boards, the new crop wants price controls, sweeping freebies and brutal wealth taxes, while their own taxes magically don’t move. It’s socialism as a personal service: cheap housing now, cheap transport now, cheap college now — “systemic change” optional.
Their heroes — from Zohran Mamdani in New York to Zack Polanski in Britain — sell a simple deal: freeze rents, punish landlords, nationalize boring infrastructure, hashtag “solidarity” abroad. It’s not about the working class as a whole; it’s about urban tenants, grad‑adjacent voters and chronically online supporters who want the city to work for them first.
Call it socialism for the subscription generation: everything unlimited, nothing paid for by you, and the bill always sent to “the rich” sometime later, offscreen.

Starmer’s Exit, Israel’s Alibi
Britain’s liberal paper of record says Keir Starmer is about to fall on his sword. According to the Observer, the Labour prime minister is expected to announce his resignation on Monday and lay out an orderly exit plan after losing the confidence of his own party.
The same machine that sold him as the adult in the room is now quietly drafting his goodbye speech.
Waiting in the wings: Andy Burnham, the “soft left” poster boy and “King of the North.” He backs a Palestinian state, attacks Hamas terror, and refuses to call the Gaza war a genocide — just enough moral theater to keep each camp half‑satisfied and fully confused.
He’s already secured a parliamentary seat in a tailor‑made by‑election and is openly framed as the favorite to inherit both Labour and Downing Street once Starmer finally lets go.
Official London, of course, is still lying on schedule. A government source rushed to tell Reuters and local outlets that Starmer is “focused on continuing his work as prime minister,” the same dead phrase rolled out before every planned resignation in Westminster’s long history of “surprise” exits.
Everyone knows the script: deny, deny, deny — then quit “for the good of the party” the moment the internal numbers say you’re already politically dead.
And while all this plays out, critics in Spain, Israel and beyond have been pointing out the pattern: whenever leaders at home are drowning in corruption cases, collapsing polls or internal rebellion, they rediscover Gaza, Israel and “international law” as a stage prop.
Foreign policy becomes the world’s most expensive distraction technique — a way to shout about someone else’s crimes while the prosecutors, rebels and successors inside your own system sharpen the knives.

Britain’s Revolving Door: Starmer Out, Burnham In
Keir Starmer just resigned, not in disgrace but in exhaustion — and under quiet mutiny. After two years in office and months of collapsing support inside Labour, he told the country he’d “heard the answer” from his own MPs and accepted that he’s not the man to lead them into the 2029 election. The troops found a new general, and he read the room before they shot him in it.
Enter Andy Burnham, 56, career operator and freshly returned “King of the North” who just walked back into Parliament on a tailor‑made by‑election. He immediately scooped up endorsements from would‑be rivals like Wes Streeting, and the party is already treating him less like a candidate and more like a coronation in progress.
Technically there’s a leadership timetable, nominations, possible contest. In practice, markets rallied the minute the Streeting–Burnham axis signaled continuity, not chaos, and the pound and gilts reacted like someone had just switched off the fire alarm.
This is the seventh British prime minister since the Brexit vote — an entire G7 country running its executive branch like a revolving‑door internship.
Voters are furious that nobody delivers “change,” bond markets are furious that anyone even talks about borrowing for it, and Burnham hasn’t yet offered more than a slogan about “fundamental change” and cheaper living.
He inherits high debt, the steepest borrowing costs in the G7, flat growth, a defense budget revolt that already cost a minister his job, and Nigel Farage screaming for an immediate general election.
So the script is set: one “decent man” exits after being “royally done over” by his own party; another is shoved into place by the same machine, while calling himself the vehicle of renewal.
Britain gets yet another unelected prime minister, investors get “stability,” Labour gets a new face for the same bind, and the electorate gets to watch the uniparty swap captains on a ship they’re no longer allowed to steer.

Europe’s Sauna Economy
Western Europe just found out what happens when you build for fireplaces and get Phoenix. France hit its highest national average temperature ever — not just for June, for any time of year — with 29.8 degrees Celsius across 30 weather stations, while parts of the country pushed over 40.
More than 60,000–68,000 homes lost power as grids buckled under the extra demand, and at least 40 people drowned in France alone, many of them teenagers escaping to unsupervised rivers and quarries.
By midweek, high‑level heat alerts were up across most of Western Europe: France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Britain, Austria, Switzerland and more.
Spain and Germany were staring down highs around 41 Celsius, with parts of Spain pushing 41–45 in some regions. Britain’s Met Office reported provisional June records near 35–38 degrees, rail companies told passengers to travel only if necessary, and tracks, power lines and schedules folded under infrastructure designed for drizzle, not desert.
The real joke is structural. Europe has spent decades bragging about its “mild climate” and “efficient buildings,” which now translates into homes, schools and offices that trap heat like a sauna and almost never have air‑conditioning.
In Britain, many houses were literally engineered to hold in warmth. In France, AC has become a political Rorschach test — a symbol of inequality, American excess, or climate hypocrisy, depending on who’s complaining.
So you get a continent that can lecture the Global South about emissions, but can’t keep classrooms below 30 degrees or prevent kids from fainting during exams.
Governments roll out “cool spaces,” drinking fountains and climate shelters — museums as survival pods — because retrofitting millions of buildings is expensive, slow and deeply unpopular with property owners who still think heat waves are a rare glitch.
Scientists are done pretending this is a fluke. Europe is now warming faster than any other continent, last year was hotter than normal almost everywhere, and heat waves are becoming longer, more frequent and deadlier, with tens of thousands of excess deaths in recent summers.
But the political system treats each wave like a surprise, blames “unusual conditions,” then quietly moves on once the forecast drops back into the 20s — until the next “unprecedented” week arrives right on schedule.
The punchline: everyone tells citizens to “stay hydrated, close the blinds, avoid travel,” because personal responsibility is cheaper than rebuilding the energy grid, redesigning housing stock and admitting that the old climate baseline is dead.
Europe wants to be a climate leader with stone‑age buildings, Victorian rail, and 21st‑century heat — and it’s discovering that moral superiority doesn’t lower the temperature in a third‑floor walk‑up with sealed windows and no fan.

🛢 The Coalition That Swears It Isn’t a Coalition
The war around Hormuz is being sold as a united front. The statements from America’s “partners” say the opposite.
London quietly tells Washington it plans to join the military effort to “secure shipping” in the Strait of Hormuz. Within hours, Tehran answers: if Britain stands with the US, Britain becomes a legitimate target.
The price of alliance is spelled out in one sentence, and suddenly “freedom of navigation” looks a lot more like “sign here to get on the target list.”
Rome’s case is even more absurd. NATO secretary general Mark Rutte says out loud that US jets have flown against Iran from bases in Italy.
The Italian government rushes to deny it, insisting it never authorized strikes from its soil and that it has assured Tehran Italy did not green‑light any combat operations.
Politically, the message is naked: the man who represents the alliance has just publicly incriminated one of its members, and that member is now scrambling to prove to Iran it’s innocent.
Kuwait goes further and puts it in legal language. Its ambassador in Washington declares that allegations of Kuwaiti involvement in operations against Iran are “completely false in every respect,” and that Kuwait has not joined any military action, has not allowed its territory, airspace or territorial waters to be used for offensive operations.
She even demands that publications “correct the record” to reflect Kuwait’s real stance.
At the same time, the Saudi foreign minister works the phones with Pakistan, Qatar and Egypt about “regional tensions” — everyone is in the conversation, no one wants to be listed in the coalition.
On paper, there is a “coalition” protecting trade and confronting Iran. In public, every supposed partner is busy explaining why it is not really part of it, did not authorize anything, and would very much like Tehran to know that.
The war is being run as if there were a united front. The front itself sounds like a group of states trying to prove they are only spectators.

When Israel’s Best Friend Calls It Terrorism
Mike Huckabee is not a left-wing diplomat. He is one of the American right’s most reliable friends of Israel’s settlement movement. Which makes his word choice in Qusra unusually hard to dismiss.
“Israeli terrorists.”
Huckabee said the U.S. Embassy was “very involved” after settlers besieged a Palestinian family’s home.
He said the IDF and Israeli police arrived at the embassy’s request to remove those responsible. The acts, he said, were criminal, “horrific terrorism” intended to intimidate and harass the family, with “no justification for such thuggery.”
This was not Washington discovering the West Bank exists. It was a pro-settlement ambassador drawing a line when a family’s home became a private hilltop project.
Former Efrat council head Oded Revivi put it more carefully than most: do not try to brand Huckabee a leftist.
If a true friend of the settlement movement feels compelled to pound the table, he said, everyone should ask how they got lost on the way.
Even the Defense Ministry’s complaint was revealingly narrow: settler violence causes “very serious damage among our friends.” Not damage to Palestinians. Not damage to law. Damage to the brand.
Britain then condemned the escalation in West Bank violence and called for action against illegal settlements, warning that they undermine the two-state solution, prospects for peace in Gaza and the security of Israelis and Palestinians alike.
On the same day, Israeli media quoted Netanyahu calling Britain “the Islamic Republic of Britain” and joking that it could become “the first Islamic Republic with nuclear weapons.”
That is the diplomatic cycle now.
A U.S. ambassador calls Israeli settlers terrorists. Britain calls for action. Israeli politicians warn of reputational damage. The prime minister compares London to Tehran.
Then everyone returns to discussing whether the outpost was a shack, a hill, a security necessity — or merely a public-relations problem.

🇬🇧🏗 E1: A British Threat, an Israeli Colonial Reply
Britain says Israel’s E1 settlement project could destroy the two-state solution. Israel says Britain has no standing to lecture anyone about territory.
The immediate trigger was Israel’s publication of tenders for roughly 1,200 housing units in E1, the sensitive tract between Jerusalem and Maale Adumim.
The broader plan covers more than 3,400 units. Palestinians and European governments say construction there could split the West Bank from East Jerusalem and make a contiguous Palestinian state far harder to build.
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband called the tender “unacceptable and destructive.” He said E1 would cut through “the heart of Palestine,” and warned that Britain would not accept the destruction of the two-state solution.
London summoned Israel’s chargé d’affaires and said it would announce a broader response in coming weeks, including targeted sanctions against people involved in settlement expansion.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar rejected what he called Miliband’s “patronising” tone.
“The Jewish people have the right to live throughout the Land of Israel, just as the British have the right to live in London and throughout the United Kingdom,” Sa’ar said.
He cited the 1917 Balfour Declaration, arguing that Britain had recognized the Jewish people’s historic right to reestablish a national home in the area, including E1.
Britain, Sa’ar said, still controls territories thousands of miles from its shores. It was therefore absurd, he argued, for London to tell Jews where they may live in what Israel describes as their historic homeland.
He also accused British policy of blaming Israel alone while ignoring Palestinian extremism, and said that approach had contributed to antisemitism and attacks on Britain’s Jewish community.
Britain treats E1 as occupied territory and a test of whether a Palestinian state remains geographically possible. Israel treats it as part of its historic homeland and cites the Balfour Declaration as evidence that Britain once accepted that claim.
London threatens sanctions. Jerusalem answers with the British Empire.
Neither side is discussing who will live between Maale Adumim and East Jerusalem once the arguments become concrete.

🏗⚖️ Governments Go After the Contractors
A group of Western governments has condemned Israel’s E1 construction tenders. The important part is not what they told Jerusalem. It is what they told the companies expected to bid.
Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Austria and Greece signed the joint statement. The first tender covers 1,400 homes between Maale Adumim and Jerusalem. Israel’s broader E1 plan calls for thousands more.
Their argument is familiar. The governments said construction in E1 would cut the West Bank in two, break up the territorial contiguity needed for a future Palestinian state, and further undermine the prospects for a two-state solution. They said Israeli settlements in the West Bank violate international law and called on Israel to rescind the tender and halt settlement expansion.
The statement then addressed the bidders.
“Businesses should not consider bidding for construction tenders,” it said. The signatories warned of legal and reputational consequences, including the risk of complicity in serious violations of international law.
This is diplomacy addressed to chief financial officers: compliance reviews, litigation exposure, insurance questions, investor campaigns, and financing risk. The target is not a ministry in Jerusalem. It is a contractor deciding whether 1,234 homes are worth a court case, an investor campaign, or a bank that walks away.
Israel says E1 will connect Maale Adumim to Jerusalem. Its critics say the plan will break the West Bank’s territorial contiguity. The tenders are scheduled to close on October 19, eight days before Israel’s election.
The governments could not stop the project with a statement. So they sent the statement to the people who build it.

🇬🇧 Four Days of Darkness — Somewhere Britain Wasn’t Looking
Iran-linked hackers reportedly shut down a British power plant for four days in July. The Telegraph called it the first known case of hackers affiliated with Tehran successfully forcing a UK electricity facility offline — and the most consequential Iranian cyberattack of its kind reported so far.
The target was a small generator. The outage did not affect Britain’s national electricity supply, according to the UK government. No regulated operator reported an outage to the National Cyber Security Centre. Four days offline, and the British public had no reason to notice.
That does not make the intrusion irrelevant. It suggests that attackers linked to Iran may have moved from probing industrial systems to taking a British generating asset offline. But British authorities have not publicly confirmed the attribution, and officials have not identified the facility. The account relies on unnamed sources and concerns a single, limited incident.
The timing is part of the picture. In July, U.S. authorities warned that hackers had remotely accessed water and wastewater infrastructure in at least seven states, disrupting monitoring and control functions. Reporting later expanded the count to systems targeted in at least 12 states. Officials have treated Iran as a leading suspect, but have not formally attributed the attacks.
A government facing sanctions, a collapsing currency, and shrinking maritime leverage can still make itself expensive to ignore. Not by blacking out Britain.
Not yet. By showing that small, overlooked pieces of Western infrastructure can be reached — and that someone will have to spend money, manpower, and political attention to make sure the next target is not small.

The Moral Emergency Export License
Britain has put West Bank settlements in the sanctions basket. It will ban their goods from British shelves. It will prohibit ads for settlement property.
It will gain powers to target companies and individuals who finance, facilitate or profit from settlement expansion. The package explicitly covers E1. Britain has already sanctioned 38 people for settler-related activity.
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband told Parliament that Britain could no longer merely “call out” injustice. It had to act. His government now calls Israel’s continuing occupation of Palestinian territory unlawful.
France and Canada moved with London. Nine other governments signed a declaration that they will impose, support or consider restrictions on settlement trade.
The communiqué leaves each capital enough room to call a ban a principle, a plan or an administrative mood.
Israel answered with diplomatic demolition work. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Israel would close Britain’s East Jerusalem consulate, stop joining a U.S.-led Gaza coordination mission and bar some British officials from entering the country.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the British ambassador’s expulsion.
Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, promised consequences for Britain. London says it is defending a two-state solution. Jerusalem is closing a consulate that works with Palestinians. Washington is threatening the country imposing the sanctions.
The bulldozers still have the easy job. They only need a road. Diplomats need a moral emergency, three allies and a press release.

1,835 Green Lights
Britain’s Green Party has made anti-Zionism official policy by a vote of 1,022 to 813.
The motion, submitted by the internal group Greens for Palestine, defines Zionism as an ethnonationalist ideology, calls for it to be treated as a form of racism.
The group demands one Palestinian state across historic Palestine with equal rights for Jews. Israel itself receives no right of continued existence in the text.
The majority was 56 percent. The electorate was 1,835 people in a party with more than 200,000 members. Less than 1 percent of the membership has decided that the British Greens should classify the Jewish national movement as racism. Representative democracy has never been so compact.
Leader Zack Polanski did not vote. His deputy voted for the motion. The party says anti-Zionism is not antisemitism and supports Palestinian “liberation,” the right of return, BDS and a full arms embargo against Israel.
The formula is simple: dissolve the Jewish state, promise Jews equal rights in the state that replaces it, and file the program under anti-racism.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said the Greens had stopped functioning as a political party and become a body that supports terrorism. The phrase is political combat. The vote is a fact: a British party with five MPs has placed the removal of Israel from its political map.
A country that once issued the Balfour Declaration now has an environmental party treating Zionism as pollution. The conference has voted for removal.
