Mission Accomplished, Construction Resumed

Israel announced in March that it had destroyed Minzadehei, a compound northeast of Tehran where it said Iranian scientists were developing nuclear weapons.

In September and October, satellite images showed cars and trucks back inside the perimeter. Apparently, the site missed its own obituary.

The March 3 strike destroyed several buildings. The Institute for Science and International Security assessed that it likely damaged underground infrastructure, without confirming how much. The craters were visible. The full victory was an interpretation.

New Vantor imagery shows extensive cleanup, renewed vehicle traffic and earth-moving over the cratered courtyard.

The institute says the activity “may be indicative of an effort by Iran to reestablish a nuclear weapons development capability.”

The traffic shows the site is active again, while the extent of any restored weapons capability requires further assessment.

Israel announced the destruction in March. By fall, satellite images showed repair work and renewed traffic. “Destroyed” is beginning to look like a maintenance interval.

The Harvest Comes Armed

Ali al-Bazzari, a 44-year-old Palestinian National Security Forces officer, was killed near Burqa on Oct. 7 during violence around the olive harvest. His cousin said he had gone there after hearing of an attack on the harvesters. Palestinian officials reported 16 wounded.

Israeli reports described Palestinians first attacking settlers from a nearby farm with stones, leaving one hospitalized with a head injury and four others treated at the scene.

Settlers then reportedly attacked Palestinians harvesting olives. The army acknowledged that soldiers and settlers opened fire. Reuters could not establish whose shot killed al-Bazzari.

The army said a commander shot a man running toward him with a “suspicious object.” That account and the Palestinian account leave the fatal sequence disputed.

The presence of armed civilians alongside troops is already on the record.

In Deir Nidham, settlers reportedly torched an Israeli activist’s car and left a warning for the army’s West Bank commander: “Avi Bluth, watch out.”

Military authority apparently has to negotiate its standing with people willing to advertise their objections beside a burning vehicle.

The army can explain its soldiers’ gunfire. The settlers have supplied a written explanation of how much they respect the army.

The Chosen Army Meets Venice

NAZA won Venice’s Special Jury Prize. Israel’s culture minister responded by demanding that directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor lose their citizenship. The film questions the army’s conduct. The minister questions whether its witnesses should remain Israeli.

The polling helps explain the nerve it struck. In October 2024, Dor Moriah and Geocartography asked 1,005 Israeli adults to position themselves between “the Jews are the chosen people” and “the Jews are one of many ancient peoples.” According to the supplied article, 63.7% leaned toward chosenness.

A separate INSS survey in September 2025 found 75% expressing high trust in the IDF, but only 37% expressing high trust in its investigations and lessons-learned processes. The institution commands considerably more confidence than its ability to examine itself.

Chosenness has competing political uses. Religious Zionists attach it to land and sovereignty. Secular Zionists translate it into moral distinction, with the “most moral army in the world” serving as a national credential. NAZA puts that credential before a foreign audience through testimony about Gaza targeting and AI-assisted warfare.

Venice awarded a film, not a factual verdict. Zohar nevertheless reached for the filmmakers’ passports.

The army’s investigations get 37%. Its critics get a citizenship test.

Outsourcing the Electoral Risk of a Strike

Washington reportedly wanted Israel to strike Iran alone. According to Maariv journalist Ben Caspit, American officials calculated that a U.S. attack would hurt Trump before the midterms, while an Israeli operation could help Netanyahu before Israel’s election. The alliance was dividing up the electoral risk along with the military responsibilities.

IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir reportedly warned that renewed fighting could force Israel to postpone its Oct. 27 vote. Washington then withdrew the request, according to the same report. A military operation marketed as an electoral advantage threatened to remove the election from the calendar.

Trump’s public position was explicit on Oct. 8: “We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections” on Nov. 3. Separate reports described Pentagon preparations and officials weighing earlier action. Those accounts point to competing signals, not an approved strike.

Iran’s recovering missile and drone production provides the security rationale cited in the reporting. Electoral calendars shape the debate over who should act and when. Tehran’s capabilities are the threat, while exposure to voters is another operational constraint.

Washington reportedly offered Israel the lead role. Zamir pointed out that the audience might have to be sent home.

Rebuilt for the Next Round

Iran’s missile arsenal is recovering faster than the region’s appetite for another war. Senior Israeli officials say Tehran has rebuilt a significant portion of its stockpile and is preparing for possible renewed fighting in the coming weeks. Preparation shows capability, not a decision to attack.

Western officials cited by Bloomberg say Iran preserved weapons factories and can replenish its arsenal. Production remains below prewar levels, but surviving components and repaired underground facilities have kept the missiles coming. Bombing damaged the business. It failed to close it.

Trump’s election calendar supplies the next deadline. His pledge to hold off attacks before the U.S. midterms gives Tehran time to rebuild. Some Iranian hardliners want to use that same interval to strike first. Washington’s pause becomes Tehran’s opportunity, whether it uses the time to rebuild or to strike first.

The nuclear losses are harder to replace. Shahid Beheshti University President Mahmoud Reza Aghamiri described his institution as wounded and bleeding after losing its best personnel, then vowed greater determination. Grief enters the statement as a human cost and leaves as a promise of more confrontation.
Both sides are selling the same thing. Each wants to act before the other recovers enough to act first.

Missiles can return to inventory. The dead scientists remain available for speeches.

Apache Now, Delivery Later

Israel’s cabinet found an urgent use for money earmarked for Arab communities: helicopters arriving in the early 2030s. Ministers approved the funding by WhatsApp on Oct. 14.

The transfer totals about NIS 1.03 billion toward a roughly $1 billion deal for 12 Boeing Apache attack helicopters.

NIS 964 million comes from planned Arab community development funding for 2027–2029. Another NIS 68 million comes from the 2026 budget.

Those are different figures for different things, helpfully scrambled in the headlines.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called the helicopter deal “a mistake,” then explained where his ministry had found the money.

He described the Arab development allocation as a temporary funding source to be sorted out in the 2027 budget talks.

The Defense Ministry wanted payment now. The Finance Ministry supplied someone else’s future allocation.

Arab communities get a promise to revisit the financing. Boeing gets a signed deal.

The helicopters can wait until the next decade. The money for Arab communities had to leave today.

Lebanon’s Demolition Insurance

Israel’s security zone keeps acquiring more Lebanon. Hezbollah keeps acquiring reasons to remain armed.

During Defense Minister Israel Katz’s Oct. 14 tour, he was presented with figures describing roughly 700 square kilometers under Israeli control, 23,000 destroyed homes and 200,000 displaced residents. Those are figures from the briefing, reported by Lebanese media.

Katz also threatened to seize additional territory around Nabatieh and the Litani if Hezbollah joins an Iranian attack.

He called the security zone “permanent.” Temporary protection now comes with permanent acreage.

Lebanese security sources told Erem News that Iran had ordered Hezbollah to raise its readiness.

The group is reportedly giving field units more independence so they can keep fighting if senior commanders are killed.

On Oct. 15, Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah acknowledged that explosives seized by Lebanese authorities belonged to the group. He demanded the cargo back and the detainees released.

Israel’s government offers Lebanese civilians security through demolition.
Hezbollah offers protection through weapons the Lebanese government has banned it from using.

Lebanon gets two protection plans. Both require surrendering control of the property.

The Photo Op Gets a Case Number

Itamar Ben-Gvir posed over detained flotilla activists in Ashdod. Italian prosecutors are now examining the chain of command behind the spectacle.

On Oct. 16, Rome prosecutors expanded their investigation to include Defense Minister Israel Katz, military chief Eyal Zamir and other senior security officials.

The case follows complaints from 50 Italians detained during two Gaza-bound flotilla missions in 2025 and 2026. Investigators are examining suspected torture, kidnapping and other offenses.

Prosecutors say detainees reported beatings and death threats. Participants in the second mission described harsher treatment, including tasers and rubber bullets.

Israel denies mistreatment. Its prison service says detainees received lawful treatment and medical care.

Ben-Gvir’s response when the investigation emerged in June was that he would “continue to stand proudly alongside our fighters.”

Rome’s inquiry asks a different question, who ordered, carried out or bore responsibility for what happened?

The minister supplied the publicity. Prosecutors are working on the credits.

Gur Backs UTJ, Barely

The Gur Rebbe, Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Alter, called on his Hasidim to vote for United Torah Judaism, ending days of uncertainty over whether Israel’s largest Hasidic movement would back the party at all.

The call appeared in the Oct. 18 edition of Hamodia, the Agudat Yisrael daily tied to Gur. It asks followers to vote for the “Gimel” list, UTJ’s ballot letter.

The silence had followed weeks of tension between Gur and Degel HaTorah, UTJ’s non-Hasidic partner, partly over how hard to press the government on the draft law.

One Gur Hasid told Arutz Sheva the aim was to keep Belz candidate Elyakim Stark out of the Knesset.

Belz endorsed UTJ on the night of Oct. 17. Hamodia ran a parallel endorsement from the Slonim Rebbe below the Gur statement.

Gur’s notice did not urge activists to recruit additional voters, unlike the movement’s previous election directives.

The message lifts the threat of a public boycott without resolving the dispute behind it. UTJ got the endorsement. The Gur leadership kept the campaign at arm’s length.

Coalition Funds Have a Bunker

Israel’s Cabinet met underground to approve cuts above ground. Coalition funds emerged without a scratch.

On Oct. 18, nine days before the election, ministers approved NIS 2.6 billion for urgent, classified defense procurement. The money comes from a 4.9% cut to ministries’ flexible spending, affecting education, health and welfare, among other services. It is not a 4.9% reduction in every ministry’s total budget.

Finance Ministry professionals recommended using coalition allocations instead. The political leadership rejected that recommendation. Those funds remain untouched.

The ministry’s legal adviser warned that alternative sources would cause less damage to public services. He nevertheless cleared the measure, concluding that it would not significantly constrain the next government.

That is the machinery in working order: officials identify a less harmful option, politicians protect their allocations, and legal approval lets the transfer proceed.

The military purchases are classified. The spending priorities are unusually clear.

Scorched Earth, Same-Day Repairs

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have announced a maintenance policy. Iranian infrastructure gets repaired immediately. Israel gets destroyed permanently.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi threatened that attacks on Iran’s energy facilities would turn Israel into “scorched earth forever” and drive its population into the Sinai Desert.

Damage at home, he promised, would be fixed immediately by Iran’s “young scientists.”

The same statement offers instant reconstruction and mass displacement.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi answered Netanyahu’s Sunday-night promise that Israel and the United States would “complete the mission.” “Last time you wanted to ‘finish the job,’ Iran emerged even stronger,” he wrote. “We have unfinished jobs too.”

Both sides promise to finish the job. Tehran’s spokesmen add a warranty covering damage to their own facilities and a threat covering everyone living in Israel.

Nothing to Declare but an Exemption

Forty-two Chabad students returned from New York to find Military Police waiting at Ben Gurion Airport. Haredi politicians called it election interference. The army called it enforcing the draft law.

Twenty-seven agreed to enlist, received suspended sentences, and went home pending induction. Thirteen refused and were sent to military prison. Two others, who had evaded service for more than 540 days, were also imprisoned.

Netanyahu called the arrests “unacceptable,” saying they undermined efforts to arrange ultra-Orthodox enlistment without coercion. The operation nevertheless produced 27 commitments to serve.

The men had received enlistment orders before leaving for America, according to Kan. They reportedly moved through the airport together, hoping their numbers would deter arrests. Military Police brought a bus.

A week before the election, the prime minister and his own army disagree over whether getting men to report for service counts as success.

Haftar Chooses Ankara’s Map

Turkey helped defeat Khalifa Haftar’s assault on Tripoli in 2020. His son Saddam now wants Ankara’s backing for the presidency.

On Oct. 20, Libya’s eastern parliament approved the 2019 maritime agreement with Turkey, reversing years of opposition. Both Libyan governments now endorse the Turkish line at sea.

The deal cuts across the energy corridor that Greece, Cyprus, and Israel have promoted. Greece and Egypt reject its legality.

Aguila Saleh’s ouster as speaker cleared the way. Il Foglio attributes it to Saddam Haftar, who welcomed the deal as protection for Libya’s economic interests.

Israel’s line to Benghazi is thinner. Il Foglio reported a September meeting between Saddam Haftar and Netanyahu in Abu Dhabi. Sources cited by i24NEWS denied it.

Israel got a rumored meeting. Turkey got a ratified treaty.

Any energy route from Israel to Europe now runs into Turkish-Libyan claims, backed by the family that once fought Ankara.

Nobody Expects the Israeli Inquisition

Israel’s culture minister has found a historical comparison for sanctions against draft evaders. It is the Spanish Inquisition. The proposed punishment is losing benefits. Miki Zohar supplied the persecution.

The Likud minister told Kan Reshet Bet that sanctions on individual ultra-Orthodox Torah students amounted to religious persecution. “This reminds me of the dark days of the Inquisition,” he said. Zohar also said men who were not genuinely studying should serve. Apparently, the line between lawful enforcement and medieval terror depends on attendance records.

In Kfar Saba, police found that a yeshiva student involved in a traffic incident was listed as a deserter and transferred him to the Military Police. Protesters gathered to prevent the handover, then blocked roads around the station and Ra’anana Junction. The transfer went ahead.

The protesters tried to stop an arrest. The minister recast sanctions as persecution. Both give religious status a veto over an obligation the state imposes on other citizens.

Zohar belongs to the government responsible for enforcing that obligation. His Inquisition has a Cabinet seat.

The Calm Before the Firestorm: Washington and Jerusalem Prepare for a Possible New Assault on Iran

🔤🔤🔤🔤1️⃣

Behind closed doors, military planners in Washington and Jerusalem are preparing for a scenario that could plunge the Middle East back into a devastating confrontation.

According to The New York Times, the United States and Israel have developed plans for renewed strikes against Iran following America’s November 3 midterm elections. Military exercises have intensified, strike scenarios are being refined, and the possibility of a short but intense campaign is once again on the table.

Yet the most consequential question remains unanswered: will Trump authorize another offensive, or is the growing military pressure intended to force Tehran into making concessions? The preparations are unfolding against a backdrop of stalled diplomacy, rising energy prices, and deep uncertainty over the future of the region.

American and Israeli forces have reportedly rehearsed strike maneuvers, including flights over Iraq, while planners consider potential targets ranging from nuclear facilities and missile arsenals to energy infrastructure.

According to reporting by an Israeli high-ranking official, he objective would be to weaken Iran’s ability to rebuild its military capabilities and increase the pressure on its leadership to accept a negotiated settlement. No final decision to launch a new campaign has been announced. The timing is hardly accidental.

Trump has to weigh the military advantages of renewed action against the political risks of prolonging an unpopular conflict. Higher gasoline prices, concerns about American casualties, and the possibility of retaliation against U.S. forces could turn another offensive into a serious liability at home. The midterm elections may therefore become a critical political deadline, even as military preparations continue in the background.

For Netanyahu, the stakes are different but no less urgent. Jerusalem remains concerned that Iran could restore damaged military capabilities and continue developing weapons that threaten Israel and its regional partners. From the Israeli perspective, allowing Tehran time to recover could make a future confrontation more difficult and costly.

Yet even close allies may disagree over how far to go, how long an operation should last, and what political outcome it could realistically achieve. Avner Vilan, a former senior Israeli security official and Iran specialist, offered a cautious assessment to The Jerusalem Post: “We’re in a situation where both sides continue to exert pressure on each other, without any lasting agreement in place.”

His warning captures the dangerous ambiguity surrounding the current standoff. Neither side has secured a durable settlement, and every new military maneuver risks being interpreted as preparation for an imminent attack.

The potential target list underscores the scale of the dilemma. Iranian nuclear facilities, missile production sites, drone arsenals, command centers, and energy infrastructure could all feature in military planning.

Strikes against these sites might disrupt Tehran’s ability to launch attacks and impose substantial economic costs. But the destruction of infrastructure does not automatically eliminate the technical expertise, industrial networks, or political determination needed to rebuild it. That uncertainty is central to the debate in Washington.

A limited campaign could produce visible military results without resolving the underlying confrontation. A broader offensive might inflict more damage but also provoke a response that neither the United States nor Israel could easily contain.

Iran could retaliate against Israeli territory, American military installations, or regional partners, while attacks on shipping could threaten the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important energy corridors.

The economic consequences could reach far beyond the Middle East. Any serious disruption to oil shipments or regional energy infrastructure could drive prices higher, intensifying inflationary pressure in the United States and elsewhere. For Trump, that would create a stark contradiction: a military campaign designed to improve American and allied security could simultaneously raise costs for consumers and undermine confidence in his economic agenda.

Gil Murciano, chief executive of the Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies, has also pointed to the domestic political constraints surrounding the conflict. The unpopularity of military action among American voters, he argues, complicates the prospect of a new escalation before the midterm elections. That political reality does not eliminate the risk of war, but it may influence the timing and scale of any decision.

Meanwhile, diplomacy remains fragile. Washington may believe that the threat of renewed strikes can force Tehran to compromise on its nuclear program and regional activities. Iran, however, could interpret the same preparations as evidence that negotiations offer little protection against future attacks.

If that perception hardens, military pressure could narrow the diplomatic space rather than expand it. The most dangerous possibility is that neither side intends to trigger a full-scale regional war, yet both continue taking steps that make one increasingly difficult to avoid.

A miscalculation, an attack causing significant casualties, or a sudden disruption to shipping could rapidly change the calculations in Washington, Jerusalem, and Tehran. For now, the military plans represent preparation, not a confirmed order to attack.

Trump could still decide that diplomatic pressure offers a better path than another campaign. But as military exercises intensify and negotiations remain uncertain, the region is entering a period in which even a limited incident could carry consequences far beyond its immediate target.

The real test for Washington and Jerusalem will not simply be whether they can strike Iran again. It will be whether they have a credible strategy for what comes afterward.

Without a clear political endgame, another offensive could destroy infrastructure, deepen regional instability, and leave the central conflict unresolved. The question hanging over the Middle East is no longer just how a new war might begin, but whether anyone can guarantee where it would end.

Libya’s Extension Cord

Israel wants a power connection to Europe. Libya’s eastern parliament has just strengthened the hand of the country demanding the coordinates.

On Oct. 20, the chamber approved Turkey’s 2019 maritime deal with Tripoli after years of opposition. Ankara courted the Haftar camp with defense cooperation and investment prospects. Greece offered objections, a less attractive package.

The disputed maritime claims overlap the planned Crete–Cyprus cable route, the essential bridge for Israel’s future electricity link to Europe.

Turkey demands written notice of survey work. Greece insists that notification is not a request for permission.

“Here are the coordinates. That is all we are asking for,” Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Oct. 21.

Libya’s rival power brokers found common ground where Ankara found leverage. Athens now hopes to send a notice that Turkey can sell domestically as consent. Both governments could claim sovereignty while the survey ship gets back to work.

Israel’s planned connection to Europe comes with an extra adapter: Greek paperwork that Turkey can label a permit.

War, Pending Scheduling

Bombing Iran apparently requires finding a date that works for both democracies.

CNN reports that Netanyahu pressed Trump for a joint strike before Israel's election. Trump withheld approval. An Israeli security source told CNN that military chief Eyal Zamir warned his American counterpart that an attack could disrupt the vote and force its postponement. Netanyahu's office called the report "fake news."

Two U.S. officials said American forces could launch strikes within 96 hours of Trump's order.

The target list, according to the officials, includes energy infrastructure, military sites, and nuclear facilities.

Trump has yet to settle on a course of action.

A Deputy Ministry, Despite the Allegations

Israel’s education minister has a lesson in public service: withdraw your party, collect a government post.

Yoav Kisch brokered a deal for Rabbi Haim Yosef Abergil’s Achi party to quit the election race in exchange for a deputy minister representing its interests. Abergil faces an ongoing sexual-offense investigation involving women and minors. The promised appointment is for a party representative, not necessarily the rabbi himself.

The recording captures Kisch asking aides to stop filming, then explaining the arrangement to Netanyahu by phone. Current law requires a deputy minister to be a sitting lawmaker. Likud would try to change it; failing that, Achi could choose a lawmaker to fill the post. Netanyahu’s response: “Completely acceptable.”

The allegations remain unresolved. The political bargain is on tape. For the education minister, the obstacle requiring remedial work was the law.
