The Secret Flight Everyone Could Track

Netanyahu flew to Abu Dhabi, crossed Jordanian and Saudi airspace, met UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed and returned to Israel.

The Shin Bet later filed a censorship complaint against Channel 12 for reporting the trip 49 minutes before the aircraft landed.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the report at 9:38 p.m. endangered Netanyahu, his wife Sara, the operation and personnel on the ground because the plane was still far from Israeli airspace. It landed at 10:27 p.m.

The Shin Bet said the publication exposed operational methods and could endanger future missions; the Mossad called it a serious security threat.

The delegation included Mossad chief David Barnea, National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi, military secretary Maj. Gen. Guy Markizano and the Shin Bet’s head of protective security.

The government made the delegation public while arguing that the flight itself had to remain secret.

Flight-tracking data had already placed Netanyahu’s aircraft in Abu Dhabi at 4:13 p.m. local time. A UAE-owned aircraft landed three minutes earlier after departing Riyadh.

A Qatari government aircraft arrived at 4:18 p.m.; an aircraft linked to Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar arrived at 4:28 p.m. The arrivals do not establish a shared meeting or a coordinated operation.

They establish something simpler: Abu Dhabi airport was visible on open-source tracking systems hours before television reported Netanyahu’s return.

The Emirates offered no public account of the Netanyahu meeting.

The visit came as Netanyahu was reportedly seeking a public Emirati denial that Mohammed bin Zayed had warned him before October 7.

The next day, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited the UAE.

Israel’s security establishment says Channel 12 exposed a secret method. The method appears to have involved a private aircraft, sovereign airspace and an airport with public flight data.

💲💥Qatar’s Bad Investment

Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN that Qatar spent “untold billions” spreading lies about Israel.

Qatar’s prime minister answered with the kind of return-on-investment calculation no lobbying firm wants to publish.

If that had been Doha’s goal, Qatar should be receiving American aid, immunity and protection. Instead, it got attacked.

Netanyahu accused Qatar of spending decades funding American universities and “toxic media outlets like Al Jazeera” to “brainwash young minds” against Israel, America and the West.

Qatar rejects the allegation. Doha says most of its U.S.-university spending supports American branch campuses in Qatar’s Education City, rather than political influence in the United States.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told Piers Morgan that, if Qatar’s investments had been meant to buy influence in Washington, the country had received an absurdly poor return.

Qatar would be the chief recipient of U.S. assistance, he said. It would never be attacked. Its strategic security would be guaranteed. “It was a very bad investment, if that was the purpose of it.”

Then he supplied the detail that makes the joke land. Al Thani said the White House informed him that the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran was beginning only minutes to half an hour before it started.

Qatar hosts the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East. Its government learned that a regional war was about to begin on a notice shorter than a late dinner reservation.

Bennett called Al Thani “a terrorist in a suit,” promised to declare Qatar an enemy state, remove “Qatari agents” from the Prime Minister’s Office and drive Qatar out of Israel and Gaza.

Al Thani calls Netanyahu a war criminal and insists that Qatari aid to Gaza was transferred at Israel’s request and under U.S. coordination.

An earlier Yedioth Ahronoth and Ynet investigation concluded that some Qatari funds officially described as humanitarian were diverted to Hamas, including funds that helped cover about half the military wing’s budget. Qatar denies the broader allegation.

Qatar hosts Hamas leaders, mediates with Hamas, hosts the U.S. military and receives warnings from Washington just before war begins. Netanyahu says this is hostile influence. Al Thani says it is a bad investment. Both descriptions can fit the same business model.

The Two-Minute Security Briefing

Netanyahu warned that Israel’s enemies may attack before the election. Lapid received a 30-minute classified briefing, said the military, Shin Bet and police were ready, and told the public not to panic. Likud’s reply was that he posted the statement two minutes after leaving.

The briefing included Netanyahu, Lapid, the military secretary and the military secretary’s intelligence officer. The Prime Minister’s Office said the intelligence presentation gave detailed warnings of possible attacks on multiple fronts before the election. It offered no public details on the threats.

Before the meeting, Lapid and Bennett had focused on a different warning: the IDF’s manpower shortage. Bennett said Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir had raised 10 red flags over a shortage of 20,000 combat soldiers. Lapid later used the figure of 15,000 ultra-Orthodox men “missing” from the IDF. The numbers describe the same political failure from different ends: an army asked to prepare for several fronts while the coalition preserves mass draft exemptions.

Lapid said Israel’s security agencies were prepared for the vote and that “there is no reason to put the public into panic.” He added that security threats must be handled professionally and that “Israel’s security and IDF bases are not props for election campaign videos.”

Likud did not dispute Lapid’s claim about readiness. It disputed his typing speed. The party said he left at 23:39 and issued his statement at 23:41, so he either writes “at the speed of light” or prepared his response before the briefing.

Meanwhile, the government is set to extend the legal framework for up to 200,000 reserve call-ups through November 30, down from the 240,000 authorized through the end of September. The estimated cost is 6.6 billion shekels. Israel has enough reserve orders for a large war. It is still arguing over whether it has enough soldiers for one.

Netanyahu says there are threats. Lapid says the public is safe. The coalition keeps the draft exemptions. The only uncontested intelligence is that somebody wrote a press release before midnight.

The Warnings Department

Benjamin Netanyahu told CBS he did not ignore warnings before October 7 because he never received them.

Donald Trump told Time he did not believe reports that Egypt and the UAE warned Netanyahu, reasoning that Netanyahu would have acted if he had known.

That same day, Israel’s Supreme Court allowed the name of the Gaza Division’s intelligence officer on October 7 to be published: Lt. Col. Aryeh Amidror, son of retired Maj. Gen. Yaakov Amidror, a former national security adviser.

Amidror had fought both the end of his career service and publication of his identity while the IDF moved to dismiss him over alleged professional failures.

Supreme Court President Isaac Amit found no remaining security reason to preserve the gag order.

The name had circulated online, the public interest was clear, and even Amidror’s own position suggested the restriction might expire within months.

The official chain now looks almost elegant. Foreign leaders may have warned Netanyahu. Netanyahu says no warning reached him. Trump says he believes Netanyahu.

A military intelligence officer who allegedly rejected a detailed Hamas raid scenario has spent months litigating whether Israel may say who he is.

October 7 did not lack warnings. It lacked a department willing to own them.

Chosenness Has a Finance Department

Rabbi Dov Lando says Israel would have been better off never being founded. His political allies negotiate with the government. The state’s spiritual value and its payment schedule belong to separate departments.

Lando exposed a disagreement over what Jewish chosenness requires. In the Haredi model, Jews owe obligations to Torah. The state earns its keep by supporting that life. Religious Zionism gives land and sovereignty a sacred purpose. Secular Zionism translates chosenness into democracy and military morality. Each camp arrives with a different job description for Israel.

Religious Zionists want the army to secure the promised land. Secular Zionists want it to protect the country and certify its moral distinction. Lando’s standard asks whether the national project serves Torah.

A flag answers that question poorly. A budget line does better.

Netanyahu’s coalition makes these competing interpretations administratively compatible. Politicians who sanctify sovereignty need votes from politicians whose religious authority questions the state’s very existence.

The latter can collect public funding without purchasing the accompanying theology.

Three versions of chosenness share one treasury. Coalition negotiations handle the exchange rate.

The Army Needs an Escort

Military police went to Modi’in overnight to arrest a deserter. By morning, the soldiers had left under police protection. The deserter celebrated surrounded by hundreds of protesters.

Reports offered competing versions of the operation. One described a failed arrest after violence against police.

Another said protesters stormed a police station and forcibly freed the detainee.

A third described a crowd forcing its way into a building to prevent his arrest. The ending stayed consistent: the arrest target stayed, and the arresting force needed an escort out.

The opposition promptly opened its campaign office at the scene. Gadi Eisenkot promised a draft law that would strengthen the army. Naftali Bennett offered a financial sanction: “In our government, anyone who doesn’t serve won’t get a shekel.”

Avigdor Lieberman supplied the coalition arithmetic: “Without the draft dodgers, Bibi has no government.”

Netanyahu depends on the political partners the opposition blames for obstructing military service.

His rivals promise to bring them into line once they take office. The soldiers sent to enforce the existing rules needed police protection to leave.

The deserter got his celebration immediately. Enforcement comes after the election.

October 7: The Director’s Cut

The families want the tapes. Netanyahu’s office is accused of trying to improve the script.

On Oct. 8, former military secretary Avi Gil told Channel 12 that a stenographer said Netanyahu’s chief of staff had ordered her to move a call’s timestamp from 6:40 a.m. to 6:29 a.m. Eleven minutes, allegedly recovered through office editing.

Now former hostages and bereaved families are demanding the full minutes, original recordings and logs the months before Oct. 7 and from the morning of the massacre. Their letter says they refuse to let the truth be replaced by a version serving those whose responsibility is under scrutiny.

Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot wants a state commission of inquiry. Netanyahu denies the allegations and blames Gil for failing to wake him in time.

October 7, Please Hold

Israel’s security leadership failed to anticipate the massacre. Three years later, the argument has reached the phone directory.

On Oct. 14, former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar sued Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for NIS 3 million, accusing him of spreading false claims to shift responsibility for October 7.

Bar’s filing describes repeated warnings throughout 2023 and proposals to target Hamas leaders that he says Netanyahu rejected.

Bar says his agency circulated an alert at 3:03 a.m. and notified Netanyahu’s military secretary by 3:55.

He also accepts responsibility for the Shin Bet’s intelligence failure. His agency did not foresee the full-scale assault that night.

Netanyahu answered the phone-number allegation. “You had my red phone number, and you could have called me immediately,” he said, adding that his Shin Bet guards could have reached him within minutes.

Bar’s defense is that the warnings reached the system. Netanyahu’s is that the system failed to reach him.

That leaves a question neither account resolves: how did Israel build a security apparatus that could circulate an urgent warning before dawn yet still leave everyone arguing about who should have picked up the phone?

Victory Pending a Quorum

Gadi Eisenkot has a deadline for defeating Hamas. His prospective coalition has yet to agree on how to exist.

On Oct. 15, the Yashar leader pledged from the Gaza border: “Within 18 months of taking office as prime minister, Hamas will no longer rule the Gaza Strip.”

He would implement Trump’s plan or use military operations to destroy Hamas’s military wing. The clock conveniently starts after he gets the job.

Avigdor Lieberman then ruled out supporting any minority government, even temporarily. His coalition excludes Netanyahu, the Arab parties and both ultra-Orthodox parties. Likud members are welcome once they abandon Netanyahu.

Current polling gives neither bloc a majority. Lieberman’s alternative therefore depends on Likud lawmakers defecting after the election. He says some would be willing. They have yet to deliver his government.

Likud attacks Eisenkot over dependence on Arab parties. Lieberman blocks that route while counting on recruits from Likud. Both sides make coalition arithmetic somebody else’s problem.

Eisenkot promises to remove Hamas in 18 months. First, his allies need to find 61 lawmakers they can tolerate.

Protection, Up for Renewal

Netanyahu says he stopped the killing of Syria’s Druze with airstrikes and a phone call. His defense minister says their survival may depend on his reelection.

At an Oct. 15 campaign event in Yarka, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described striking government targets in Damascus before calling Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. “It was a very short, very sharp conversation, and the slaughter stopped,” he said, referring to the July 2025 violence.

Defense Minister Israel Katz supplied the electoral terms: Sharaa is waiting for Netanyahu to lose so he can resume attacking the Druze. That is Katz’s prediction, now serving as a campaign argument.

Damascus rejected using the Druze for Israeli election propaganda. A Syrian government source called them an inseparable part of the nation and accused Israel of arming a militia to destabilize Sweida. The statement neither confirmed nor denied the call.

Both governments claim the Druze as proof of their legitimacy. Netanyahu offers personal protection with an election deadline. Damascus invokes national belonging while blaming Israel for the violence.

The Druze get two competing claims of guardianship. Neither comes with the right to fire the guardian.

The Window Is Broken. The Narrative Is Under Review.

Israel’s military says Israeli rioters attacked European diplomats. Netanyahu’s office would like everyone to examine the diplomats first.

On Oct. 17, masked settlers attacked a delegation near Taybeh during the Palestinian olive harvest. Witnesses reported seven men on ATVs. A Belgian consulate vehicle’s window was smashed. Bernard Baudoux, the 78-year-old French mayor seen on the ground, was assaulted, according to witnesses and diplomats.

The IDF condemned a “severe act of violence” against diplomatic representatives. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar condemned it too. Both noted that the visit had not been coordinated with the military.

Netanyahu’s office supplied a different emphasis: “Serious allegations require solid evidence.” It questioned whether the footage established the full sequence and suggested a coordinated effort to defame Israel.

Belgium wants further EU sanctions. Israeli police have opened an investigation.

The army identified an attack. The prime minister’s office identified a reputational threat. Somewhere between those priorities, masked men decided they could demand diplomats’ papers and smash their window.

The Puppet Department

Yinon Magal called Gadi Eisenkot a “monkey” controlled by Ashkenazi elites. Eisenkot replied that Magal’s real problem was the man controlling Magal.

On Channel 14’s Oct. 17 broadcast, Magal repeatedly used the insult while invoking the Yashar leader’s Moroccan heritage.

He later said he meant a front man, borrowing slang from the criminal underworld. Apparently, explaining the ethnic composition of the alleged operation required the extra airtime.

The next morning, Netanyahu condemned the remark, then demanded that Eisenkot condemn people who had called Likud voters “chimpanzees” and “baboons.” His condemnation arrived with an invoice for reciprocal outrage.

Eisenkot’s answer was that “the problem isn’t Yinon Magal, but the person who stands behind Yinon Magal,” pointing toward Netanyahu.

Magal reduces a former military chief to an ethnic front man. Eisenkot redirects responsibility from the broadcaster to the prime minister. Netanyahu turns the insult into a dispute over whose voters suffer more contempt.

Everyone can identify somebody else’s handler. Personal responsibility remains the vacancy nobody wants to fill.

Hamas’s Accounts Receivable

Israel bombs Hamas’s infrastructure. Hamas taxes the goods Israel allows into Gaza. The war has a revenue stream.

Channel 12 reports that Hamas collects roughly NIS 250 million a month, about NIS 3 billion a year, largely through levies on merchants importing goods. The money is raised inside Gaza, from goods that enter with Israeli permission.

An Oct. 18 TIME investigation documents how Israeli officials encouraged and coordinated nearly $2 billion in Qatari payments to Gaza over more than a decade, including vetting recipients and urging Doha to keep paying.

Israeli intelligence assessed that Hamas diverted about $4 million a month of those Qatari funds to its military wing from at least 2019 through 2021, roughly half the wing’s estimated budget.

Qatar calls its payments humanitarian assistance. Netanyahu has defended the policy as preventing civilian collapse. Hamas turned money meant to sustain Gaza into funds to sustain itself.

The official objective is to dismantle Hamas. Its income still depends on what Israel lets through, first Qatari cash and now taxed imports.

Scorched Earth, Same-Day Repairs

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have announced a maintenance policy. Iranian infrastructure gets repaired immediately. Israel gets destroyed permanently.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi threatened that attacks on Iran’s energy facilities would turn Israel into “scorched earth forever” and drive its population into the Sinai Desert.

Damage at home, he promised, would be fixed immediately by Iran’s “young scientists.”

The same statement offers instant reconstruction and mass displacement.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi answered Netanyahu’s Sunday-night promise that Israel and the United States would “complete the mission.” “Last time you wanted to ‘finish the job,’ Iran emerged even stronger,” he wrote. “We have unfinished jobs too.”

Both sides promise to finish the job. Tehran’s spokesmen add a warranty covering damage to their own facilities and a threat covering everyone living in Israel.

The Riviera Relocation Package

Ben-Gvir wants Gaza’s coastline, fewer Palestinians, and the Defense Ministry to help arrange both.

In an Oct. 19 interview with TIME’s Eric Cortellessa, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for capturing all of Gaza and promoting Palestinian departure. “Gaza could be a Riviera,” he said. His plan would replace Palestinian communities with Israeli settlements, while their residents leave for countries he did not name.

The West Bank gets the same package. Israeli sovereignty, a disarmed Palestinian Authority, and “voluntary emigration.”

“People will choose the option to leave,” he insisted. Israel would control the land and the weapons on it, and call the population’s departure a choice.

Ben-Gvir wants Netanyahu to remain prime minister, with himself as defense minister. Netanyahu has ruled out giving him the portfolio. Ben-Gvir plans to win enough seats to make that refusal expensive.

The transaction is plain. Netanyahu supplies access to government. Ben-Gvir supplies votes and wants more power over the military.

The Riviera has no named destination for its displaced residents. It already has a candidate for management.

Choose Your Channel, Choose Your Majority

Israel’s election has three different parliaments on screen. Only one gives Netanyahu a government.

Channel 14 projects 30 seats for Likud and 62 for its right-wing bloc. The other two polls put Likud at 21 and 17 seats and leave Netanyahu’s bloc short of the 61 needed for a majority.

Channel 16 advertises more than 5,000 respondents and a 1.4% margin of error. It gives the coalition 52 seats. Channel 14 gives it 62. A bigger sample shrinks random error. It does not explain why two polls describe such different electorates.

Eisenkot’s Yashar leads in two of the polls. Yet the anti-Netanyahu Zionist parties reach only 50 or 52 seats there, with the Arab parties counted separately. Finishing first is easier than forming the promised replacement government.

Netanyahu’s camp gets a majority on Channel 14. His opponents get first place elsewhere.

Iran Joins the Campaign

Netanyahu says Iran wants him out of office. Tehran has become the foreign threat and the campaign endorsement, helpfully rolled into one.

“We have clear warnings from military intelligence and the Mossad that Iran and its proxies are considering ways to influence the elections,” the prime minister told The Jerusalem Post. He threatened a response with “force and might they can’t even imagine.”

The military’s reported assessment is narrower. Channel 13 quoted IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir as saying there was no current operational need to strike Iran before the vote. If a strike became necessary, he added, it would go ahead.

Former Trump administration officials told Jewish Insider that renewed fighting before the Israeli and American elections was unlikely unless an imminent threat or an actual attack forced action.

Netanyahu’s warning is about interference. Zamir’s is about war. The campaign runs them together.

The result is a personal proposition. Iran fears Netanyahu’s reelection, so voters should deliver it.

Yonatan Urich wants his private messages kept out of public view. Netanyahu keeps the aide himself close.

Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court temporarily barred activist Itai Leshem from publishing Urich’s personal material if it was obtained through hacking. The order followed Urich’s NIS 1 million lawsuit. It does not settle how the correspondence was obtained.

The political question rests on a separate record. Channel 12, citing interrogation transcripts, reported that Urich admitted receiving hundreds of thousands of shekels for promoting Qatar’s image. He estimated that the work continued until “mid-to-late 2024,” well into the war.

“I didn’t see a conflict here,” he reportedly told investigators. “I don’t see it as a moral problem.” Prosecutors unsuccessfully sought to bar him from the Prime Minister’s Office. He still works closely with Netanyahu.

The injunction concerns what outsiders may publish. The unanswered question is whom the prime minister chooses to keep inside.

The Neighborhood Gets the Sentence

Two Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers near Hebron. Netanyahu’s announced response extends to the neighborhood they came from.

The attack killed Staff Sgt. Ron Yonatan Roytman and Sgt. Yuval Shai Svilem and wounded three other soldiers. Israeli forces killed both attackers. Netanyahu ordered Hebron cordoned off and preparations for a full West Bank closure.

Then came the broader plan. “We will evacuate the residents, we will go house to house,” Netanyahu said, promising to destroy weapons and terrorist infrastructure. He cited the model used in the refugee camps of the northern West Bank, where operations displaced thousands of Palestinians.

Netanyahu also said Israel was preparing a wider operation, potentially the largest since 1967. The military is ready, he said, and the government will set the timing. It has not begun.

Defense Minister Israel Katz cast the attack as part of an Iranian and Muslim Brotherhood effort to influence the election. He has not shown that the attack was coordinated for that purpose.

The gunmen are dead. Their neighbors face evacuation. Four days before the vote, the government is offering security by emptying a neighborhood.

War, After the Checkout

Washington and Israel have drawn up another Iran strike package. The preferred launch window appears to open after American voters finish judging the price of gasoline.

ABC News reported that the two militaries have prepared joint strikes for the coming weeks. Two Israeli sources said action would almost certainly follow the Nov. 3 midterms, because Trump wants to avoid further disruption to oil markets before the vote. Authorization remains his decision.

Possible targets include petrochemical facilities and nuclear sites. Netanyahu favors renewed action, according to the sources. His government denies reports that Trump blocked an earlier Israeli operation.

Washington has ordered nonessential diplomatic staff and their families out of Saudi Arabia amid Houthi attacks. The State Department said the order covers Saudi Arabia only, not every Gulf mission.

Netanyahu wants military action. Trump wants to choose its timing without paying for it at the pump before the vote.
