Fiete Arp diagnosed with knee ligament strain, will train individually in Munich for a week
FC Bayern Muenchen - Training Session Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty ImagesThankfully, Arp’s injury is less serious than initially fearedFiete Arp has had virtually zero luck with injuries this season for Bayern Munich. He missed considerable spells of the season on the sidelines with a handful (pun intended) of injury problems, including his persistent hand problem. He had just returned from holiday last week to begin training at Sabener Strasse with Miroslav Klose and Bayern’s new signings, but suffered a knee problem. Thankfully, per a new report from Bild, assessments from Bayern’s medical staff have determined that Arp only sustained a minor knee ligament strain. For now, he will train individually for about a week before resuming sessions with the rest of the players that are still in Munich having not traveled to Portugal for the Champions League quarter-finals.FC Bayern Muenchen - Training Session Photo by S. Widmann/Getty Images for FC BayernWhile the official diagnosis is much less serious than Arp had initially feared, this is yet another setback for the “#ArpTrain.” The 20-year old striker can’t seem to go more than a month or so without picking up some sort of injury and it’s caused him to miss out on opportunities with Bayern’s senior squad and reserves. He missed a total of 22 matches due to injury this season between both Bayern’s first team and the reserve team that won the 3. Liga under Sebastian Hoeness.Hopefully for Arp’s case, once he returns to full team training, he’ll benefit from training alongside Leroy Sane, Tangay Nianzou, Adrien Fein, Alexander Nubel and the rest of Bayern’s squad not in Portugal under Klose’s guidance.1. <b>Bayern Munich youngster Feite Arp set to play a full season with the second team</b>

Liga</a> Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty ImagesIt is hard to think that a 20-year-old is at the crossroads of his career, but Fiete Arp needs a big season with Bayern Munich II to get back on track. The ballad of Fiete Arp’s career with <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/teams/bayern-munich">Bayern Munich</a> has not exactly been one that legends are made of thus far.Once heralded as a potential successor to both <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/236837/robert-lewandowski">Robert Lewandowski</a> and Miroslav Klose, Arp has missed 100 days due to illness and injury since arriving in Munich from <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/teams/hamburger-sv-hsv">Hamburger SV</a>. With the extended absences, the player’s future has become murky at best. Fair or unfair, the #ArpTrain was derailed.<a href="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/JxEZUEFK6bS1wljkloKp3tleYpI=/400x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/21906708/1253703909.jpg.jpg">Bayern Muenchen II v MSV Duisburg - 3. Liga</a> Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Bongarts/Getty ImagesFiete Arp is looking forward to proving himself with Bayern Munich II this season.Where does that leave the 20-year-old forward now? Per <a href="https://www.kicker.de/stiller-abschied-aus-dem-profi-kader-arps-bewusster-schritt-zurueck-785422/artikel">kicker</a>, Arp is set for a “conscious step back” and will play the entire season with Bayern Munich II in an effort to get his career back on track. The story from kicker states that Arp made this decision “some time ago.”Arp played as a wide forward/right-wing for 66 minutes in Bayern Munich II’s season opener against Türkgücü Munich and set up Adrian Fein’s goal in the 23rd minute. Arp’s initial cross-attempt deflected off of a Türkgücü Munich defender and ricocheted directly to Fein who deposited the ball into the back of the net.Overall, Arp was solid, but not spectacular, in the season opener, but will absolutely have to produce if he wants to break into Bayern Munich’s first-team roster. At the moment, even Joshua Zirkzee also seems to be ahead of him in the club’s pecking order. Arp was not officially credited with an assist against Türkgücü Munich despite his role in setting up the first goal, but tracked back effectively, caused some issues with his pressing, made some creative runs, and had some solid moments overall, while also picking up a yellow card. In the 39th minute, the youngster got his head on the end of a corner-attempt at the near post, but sent the shot over the crossbar.Arp also did well in linking up with Fein, who is another player who is likely in a make or break year for his career with the Bavarians. In the 48th minute, he worked a combination with Jamal Musiala and his end-run should have resulted in a pass-back from Musiala for an advantageous shot attempt, but Musiala held on to the ball too long and could not complete the final pass.At times, Arp floated to the left-side of the pitch and also centrally, mimicking the interchanging of positions that we often see with Hansi Flick’s group of first-team players. The aptitude and talent are clearly there, but can those attributes shine through enough this season to salvage a career with Bayern Munich? Without production, Arp’s natural ability and reportedly strong work ethic will not matter.<strong>BFW Analysis</strong>It may sound odd, but as discussed on the latest edition of <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2020/9/22/21450204/the-bavarian-podcast-works-show-episode-26-8-0-8s-and-heartbreak-schalke">Bavarian Podcast Works</a>, this is a make or break season for Arp with Bayern Munich. WE’RE BACK...YOU KNOW IT!In the midst of all of Hansi Flick’s hustle-and-bustle in trying to keep his squad fresh for <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com">Bayern Munich</a>’s brutal early season schedule, it has been easy to overlook what should have been one of the key questions coming into the season: How would Niklas Süle look upon his return from a devastating ACL injury that cost him the majority of the 2019/2020 season? The answer: Pretty darned good.Süle got a head start in his return by coming back at the very end of last season to help get his body back into playing condition, but mentally is where Süle has made the biggest strides. The emotional grind in recovering and rehabbing from an ACL injury is one of the most difficult tasks a player can face. For many players, regaining full physical and mental fitness is an extremely difficult proposition. At <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/teams/bayern-munich">Bayern Munich</a>, we only need to look at Corentin Tolisso to see how long it can take for a player to truly get back to 100%. Tolisso suffered a serious ACL injury back in September 2018. You could make a strong argument that the 24-year-old Frenchman only really started to look like himself at the tail end of last season — which included a long layoff due to COVID-19.Regaining the confidence to not just perform at the same speed, make the same cuts, slide for a hard challenge, or load-up to leap the same way after a knee injury is not something that just happens. Credit to Tolisso as he worked extremely hard to make progress, but Süle has seemingly been able to already fight through any apprehension.Frankly, Süle not only came back mentally strong, but physically kept himself in shape despite the injury. While that might not seem like a big deal, we do know that <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/110278/thomas-muller">Thomas Muller</a>’s <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2019/4/21/18509729/bayern-munich-thomas-muller-and-niklas-sule-are-golf-buddies">golf buddy</a> likes to <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2019/7/24/20708544/bayern-munich-niklas-sule-im-no-lard-arse-juventus-matthijs-de-ligt">throw down at the dinner table</a> a bit.Anyway, one of the interesting parts of Süle’s return has been how he seems to fit into Flick’s rotation. As of now, it is hard to discern who exactly Flick’s top center-back pairing would be. With Jerome Boateng, <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/187947/david-alaba">David Alaba</a>, and Lucas Hernandez all part of the mix and Benjamin Pavard, <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/187935/javi-martinez">Javi Martinez</a>, Chris Richards, and Tanguy Nianzou all able to play there as well, there could be an insane amount of mixing-and-matching going on for Flick in the coming months. With all of that depth, should Süle be worried about his position on the squad? The answer: Probably. Personally, I’d love to see Süle remain the cornerstone of the defense. With his size, speed, strength, and passing ability, Süle checks all the boxes you want in a next generation defender...but that back-line is crowded and talented. Some players will likely have to eventually go...hopefully the 25-year-old <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/fifa/teams/germany">Germany</a> international is not one of them.<strong>#ArpTrain anthem?</strong>As some of you may know, our own Tom Adams is a bit of musician and is the drummer in a band.…

LigaPhoto by Roland Krivec/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesDespite Fiete Arp’s big free kick goal, Bayern II settle for a 1-1 draw against fellow relegation candidates Unterhaching.Bayern Munich II secured a point away to Unterhaching in their final match of 2020. The 1-1 draw ends a start-stop, mediocre start to the 2020/21 season. In a season full of change in the team and unlike any other due to COVID, Bayern II have their head above water and will be targeting a mid-table finish in the second half of the season.Fiete Arp scored a spectacular free kick just before halftime to equalize at 1-1 for Bayern II. Unterhaching had taken the lead on a 2nd minute goal from Luca Marseiler; however, Bayern II battled back and took a deserved point in the contest.#ArpTrain hitting another free kick. Arp was out 90 days in the 2019/2020 season with three separate injuries and an intense sickness.<a href="https://www.bild.de/bild-plus/sport/fussball/fussball/fc-bayern-der-dramatischeabsturz-von-fiete-arp-75745646,view=conversionToLogin.bild.html">Bild</a> filed a report (behind the Bild+ paywall), that paints a bleak picture for the 21-year-old’s future with Bayern Munich. Per Bild, Arp is resigned to the role of being a reserve for Bayern Munich II, is struggling with his confidence, and might already be looking toward next season — where he could be wearing a different club’s kit.Worse, Bild indicated that there are some within Bayern Munich who do not believe Arp will be able to break through at the club. If neither the player, nor the club, are confident in his ability, this could be the stretch run of Arp’s stay with the Bavarians — assuming the report is true.Prior to the season, Arp was said to have had a strong summer, but it was determined via a joint decision by the player and the club for him to play a full season in 3.Liga in hopes of being fully ready for the first-team roster in 2021/2022.Real Madrid star Marcelo on Jann-Fiete Arp: „He is a good player and has a gigantic career in front of him. To say this group has had some ill-fitting pieces offensively would be an understatement. The talent was there, but not the ability to play as a unit.Arp also suffered a torn muscle fiber in February, which derailed his season once more. Now back with the squad, Arp is finding it hard to make an impact. After appearing in one DFB-Pokal match for the senior-team, Arp has played in 22 games for Bayern Munich II and registered just three goals and two assists.Still young, there is time — and hope — for Arp to regain his confidence and realize the potential that so many saw in him. The big question is, however, will he be able to make that attempt at a career revival in Munich?<strong>Bonus Section</strong>I’ll just save you all the trouble now...Anyway, we’ll always have this legendary moment...A little throwback to Arp vs Marcelo

Bayern Munich vs. Union Berlin this weekend! It is times like this where the squad planning at <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com">Bayern Munich</a> really comes into focus. Before we get going, this is not an anti-Brazzo rant. Let’s just be clear about that. It is more of a look at how the Bavarians ended up with such a thin corps for the next few games. The pundits — including <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2021/4/9/22374417/bayern-munich-psg-lothar-matthuas-criticize-hasan-salihamidzic-transfer-policy-brazzo-hansi-flick">Lothar Matthäus</a> — have chimed in and are taking their shots at Bayern Munich’s lack of depth. Make no mistake, though, no one could have predicted the mass amount of injuries, ailments, and suspensions that the Bavarians are currently facing this weekend. For Bayern Munich to be so shorthanded at this moment, though, a lot of things had to happen. Let’s take a quick look at those lesser-talked about moves that have left Bayern Munich’s bench in such disarray:Joshua Zirkzee: On loan with Parma Calcio 1913, Zirkzee is currently <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2021/4/3/22365035/bayern-munich-loanee-joshua-zirkzee-sustain-knee-ligament-injury-parma-calcio-robert-lewandowski">injured</a> (maybe for the rest of the season), but had not just plateaued at Bayern Munich before his move, but had regressed. A lack of movement and physicality in the final third ultimately hampered Zirkzee’s progress in Munich, which now leaves the striker depth chart a little barren behind Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The Bavarians recently called up Christopher Scott from Bayern Munich II to help provide some depth.<a href="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/CqWf5qD8C7iCeOsRi8eWnOizOBg=/400x0/filters:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/22373126/1231592200.jpg">Bayern München II v SV Wehen Wiesbaden - 3. By now, Arp should have been capably able to help with depth behind Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller, and at both wings. Instead, he’s a part-time starter for Bayern Munich II. Even for the most ardent #ArpTrain supporter (me?), this has been tough to watch unfold.Chris Richards: Yeah...if Bayern Munich could do it all over again, it would not have loaned Richards to Hoffenheim. Richards’ ability to play multiple spots along the backline would have been huge for Flick at the moment. More, Richards has made such a fantastic impression that Hoffenheim could be looking to <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2021/4/8/22373970/bayern-munich-hoffenheim-chris-richards-loan-transfer-david-alaba-jerome-boateng-niklas-sule">bring on Richards permanently</a> — which could be attractive to the Alabama native given the instant playing time he received in Sinsheim.Tiago Dantas: The ever-so-slight midfielder has not worked out with Bayern Munich. Werner, of course, had Chelsea’s first goal, but Mount and Havertz could have easily both converted chances and had Chelsea up at least 3-0.It was a very impressive effort to say the least. Moreover, when the Pride of Pennsylvania Christian Pulisic came on for Werner, the Hershey, PA (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lwd2Fukh_E">The Sweetest Place on Earth</a>) native found Mount with a perfect pass, which the English youngster converted for a 2-0 lead that clinched a spot in the <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league">Champions League</a> final. As for Arp, the hard-luck striker finally got back on the score sheet when he converted a penalty to draw Bayern Munich II even with MSV Duisburg at 2-2. Holstein Kiel v SC Paderborn 07 - Second BundesligaPhoto by Cathrin Mueller/Getty ImagesThe future is cloudy for Fiete Arp.The once promising career of Bayern Munich loanee Fiete Arp went severely off the rails after an absolutely disastrous 2019/20 season where the prospect was hampered by both illnesses and injuries. That set the tone for two more off-kilter campaigns, including 2021/22, which he spent on loan with Holstein Kiel. When he moved to Bayern Munich from Hamburger SV back in 2019, there were lofty expectations for the youngster — and they intensified after he had a terrific preseason. Upon being sent to Bayern Munich II to get more playing time, though, Arp fell into a malaise about the perceived demotion and never really recovered as injuries and illnesses further complicated his situation. The 2020/21 campaign saw Arp continue to battle himself and his form leading to this season’s loan assignment:Jann-Fiete Arp confirms he's leaving Holstein Kiel following the end of his loan spell (24 league appearances - only two over 90 minutes, 2G, 2A). Holstein Kiel v Hamburger SV - Second BundesligaPhoto by Cathrin Mueller/Getty ImagesI had high hopes…and was wrong.Admittedly, it has been a few years since I was driving the #ArpTrain (off a cliff?), but it is finally time for me to own this and admit that I was dead wrong on Jann-Fiete Arp’s signing with Bayern Munich. It was doomed from the beginningArp was a hot commodity and building a strong reputation for himself at Hamburger SV and within the German youth system. He was not a hulking figure, but did have the requisite height, skill, and speed that made him a sensational transfer target for a club like Bayern Munich, who was looking to lock an eventual successor to Robert Lewandowski.Arp’s acquisition was pretty unprecedented for Bayern Munich as they were going to pay him A LOT of money (rumored to be €5 million). There was also some back-and-forth between Arp and Hamburger SV after the rumors initially surfaced, which led to him falling out of favor before the transfer was formally announced. It was clear that Arp was moving on, but whatever transpired between the player, his camp, and the club left Hamburger SV bitter. One ailment after anotherUpon arriving at Bayern Munich, there was an immense amount of hope. Arp’s physical toolset let to him getting some playing at time as a wing and at striker during the preseason where he famously toasted Marcelo in one match and scored against Tottenham Hotspur in another. The future looked extremely bright...until it didn’t.Arp later would admit that moving to Bayern Munich was probably too much, too soon for him. While not explicitly stating it, it seemed as if Arp allowed being sent to Bayern Munich II to affect his mentality. Worse, stories from that period indicated that Arp’s attitude could have been a big factor in the move.Things actually got worse from there. Injuries and illnesses checkered Arp’s entire tenure at Bayern Munich until it was clear that a separation was needed for the player and club alike — first in the form of a loan and then subsequently with a sale.Arp had moved on to Holstein Kiel. The #ArpTrain is still not on trackNow entrenched as part of the squad at Holstein Kiel, Arp is completely off the radar of the national team and is having a less-than-middling career at best. Arp has no goals and two assists in 15 games across all competitions this season.Since October 16th in 2. Bundesliga, Arp has played in five games (he was left out of the squad and did not dress in another game), but tallied just 65 minutes. This is now how it was supposed to be.SummaryI sometimes wonder how things might have played out differently for Arp if had maintained a more positive attitude at Bayern Munich, the club would have kept him on the first team, and if he could have avoided those aforementioned injuries and illnesses. There are a whole lot of ifs there, but you get the point. Arp should have been better and things should have been different, but it just didn’t work out. What a redemption story it would be if Arp could rediscover that magic that made him such a prized prospect at the time — and yeah, I’d throw the ol’ engineer outfit for one last (hopefully long) ride.It probably won’t happen, but even if it does, my bad take here will go down in BFW lore as it should.

F.C. Hansa Rostock v Holstein Kiel - Second Bundesliga Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images #ArpTrain is back and thriving! Remember the young boy, full of potential Bayern Munich picked up from Hamburg SV in 2019? Yes, the same Jann-Fiete Arp everyone hoped could one day succeed Robert Lewandowski.Well, things didn’t go as planned, as Robert Lewandowski left for FC Barcelona while Arp, despite all the backing, never found his feet at Bayern. He made his loan to Holstein Kiel permanent at the start of last season as he moved to the north of Germany for free. Yet he failed to impress in his first year at Kiel too, and many thought he would never reach the heights he was destined to. This season however, he is proving all doubters wrong as he has managed five goals and an assist in seven starts across 10 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga this season, and looks more confident than ever. He has impressed every time he has come on the pitch as Holstein Kiel makes their charge for promotion. This weekend, Kiel faced a difficult fixture in Hannover 96, while promotion rivals St. Pauli faced a relatively easier matchday against newly-promoted Wehen Wiesbaden. But a strong brace from Arp saw Kiel cruise to a comfortable 3-0 victory as St. Pauli dropped points for the second game running, which saw Kiel move to the top of the 2. Bundesliga as the Hinrunde came to an end.It is great to see the who once was a little teenager with the world at his feet regain his form, and the smile on his face says it all. While it didn’t work out in Munich, might see him and Kiel (intense flashbacks) in the Bundesliga next season, which could lead to an interesting fixture against FC Bayern. Here are the highlights for the game against Hannover as you can sit back and enjoy his brace in the last 2. BL matchday of 2023. #ArpTrain keeps moving on!

FC Schalke 04 - Hertha BSC Photo by Bernd Thissen/picture alliance via Getty Images Whither the #ArpTrain? Let’s find out... Schalke 04 midfielder Assan Ouédraogo was linked to Bayern Munich quite a few times toward the end of 2023, but according to Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the youngster is more likely to move to RB Leipzig or Eintracht Frankfurt: Assan Ouédraogo and his family are unconvinced of a move to Bayern. They do not see the ideal development opportunities in Munich due to the many stars in the team and the constant pressure around the club. The example of Fiete Arp, who was lured to Bayern with a big salary in 2019 and ended up not making any league appearance, puts them off. A move to RB Leipzig or Eintracht Frankfurt is much more realistic. The comparison to Arp is an interesting one. Arp made his way to Bayern Munich from Hamburger SV and was considered not just a bright prospect, but a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski. Upon arriving in Bavaria, Arp had a strong training camp, followed by solid showings in preseason matches against both Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, playing as both a striker and as a wing. From there, however, things fell apart. Instead of a spot with the first team, the decision was made to have Arp play with Bayern Munich II, which — he later admitted — had an effect on the youngster. Bad luck with injuries and extended illnesses wreaked havoc on his development and the youngster was soon an afterthought on campus before being loaned out and eventually dumped for free to Holstein Kiel. It was truly a cautionary tale for any young player, whose mindset was not quite ready to deal with the adversity that can come along with a move to Bayern Munich. For Ouédraogo’s family, the story seems to have resonated with the primary lesson being about making such a big move so early in a player’s career. As for Arp, he was having a very solid season for Holstein Kiel in 2. Bundesliga with five goals and one assist through 10 games across all competitions. However, Arp suffered yet another untimely injury last week when he tore a tendon — ensuring that, once again, the #ArpTrain has been derailed by horrid luck. Arp’s timetable for a return is unknown. Holstein Kiel v AS Saint-Etienne - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Bundesliga action is back for Bayern Munich! Bayern Munich will be back in action this weekend and will be facing Holstein Kiel. That came in the second round of the 2020/21 DFB Cup when a 6-5 defeat on penalties saw the holders knocked out by the then Bundesliga 2 side in wintery January conditions at the Holstein-Stadion.Even with Holstein Kiel struggling with its promotion, this should be a fun match for fans to soak in after the international break. Let’s take a look at what we have on tap for this episode:A look at where each team is in the table and the recent form of each squad. What to watch for with Holstein Kiel.A remembrance of the #ArpTrain movement (RIP).A look at Bayern Munich’s injury situation.A guess at Bayern Munich’s starting XI.A prediction on the match.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Hannover 96 v Holstein Kiel - Second Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images The #ArpTrain is looking to get back on the tracks... At one point, Fiete Arp seemed destined to be a part of Bayern Munich’s next generation. An unfortunate series of events happened during that journey, though, and Arp ultimately left the club without any acclaim (we’ll always have the preseason matches against Real Madrid — sorry, Marcelo — and Tottenham Hotspur, right?).Now, Arp is working to make a name for himself at Holstein Kiel, where he appears to be very happy. “The state capital Kiel has waited for decades to be so relevant in football. Even before we had made promotion clear, people in the city were saying: Next year Bayern will come to Kiel! In the end, it was always about Bayern,” Arp told FCBayern.com. “Of course, a lot of it is connected to the cup sensation. That’s why it was the biggest dream of the people here to welcome FC Bayern back to Kiel.” Of course, Arp is referencing Holstein Kiel’s shocking DFB-Pokal win over Bayern Munich back in 2021. That match is history, though, and Arp wants to focus on finding a way to help his team this weekend. “The start to the season was unfortunate. But we can still deal with that and we are learning from it,” said Arp, “Everyone will certainly have a certain extra motivation against Bayern. We already noticed what our stadium is capable of in the race for promotion in the 2nd division.“Of course, the game is very important to me. I learned a lot about myself and about football during my time at Bayern. I’m just looking forward to Saturday and the Bundesliga season.” In the end, Arp will also look forward to catching up with his ex-mates. “Personal relationships are always the best, I got to know some impressive people at Bayern,” Arp remarked, who named Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala as players he looks forward to catching up with. Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern Munich picked up an easy victory... Die Folgen: Bayern’s 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel (Bavarian Football Works)It did not take Bayern Munich long to exert its dominance over Holstein Kiel. How long you ask? Well, roughly 14 seconds as Jamal Musiala put the visitors on the scoreboard extremely early and that paved the way for a thoroughly dominant performance from the Bavarians during a 6-1 victory. Here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s start with a look at Vincent Kompany’s lineup: STARTING XI
Here's how we line up to take on Holstein Kiel away today ⚫️#KSVFCB pic.twitter.com/ydJbQVfBMP— FC Bayern US (@FCBayernUS) September 14, 2024Hmmm. There were several interesting selections. Joao Palhinha got the nod over Aleksander Pavlović and Raphaël Guerreiro started over Alphonso Davies. Those moves were not wholly unexpected. Kingsley Coman over Leroy Sané, Michael Olise, and Mathys Tel was a bit of a shocker, though. One thing that should get attention is that Thomas Müller — despite several stellar performances— was once again on the bench. So…about the “performance principle”…yikes. At this point, fans have to come to grips with it — Müller is not in the mix for a starting spot and will not be.Just 14 seconds into the match, Jamal Musiala danced his way to the net for a quick 1-0 lead. That was not what Holstein Kiel needed to start the match. Harry Kane’s header sprung Musiala forward to put Bayern Munich up 1-0.Kane got a goal of his own in the 7th minute after a horrible mistake by the Holstein Kiel backline. Serge Gnabry stabbed his foot out to deflect the ball to Kane, who was left with an easy finish.Holstein Kiel was completely overwhelmed by the moment and what was in front of them.Musiala had some dazzling footwork in the 13th minute which preceded an attempted pass to Gnabry, which deflected off of a Holstein Kiel defender into the net for an own goal.Yeah, this was an absolute debacle. The rampant goal scoring did slow down, but Holstein Kiel could not assert any control over the match. The talent difference was just far too great. Kane added his second tally in the 43rd minute after a nice fee from Coman. Michael Olise came in and scored a goal in the 65th minute after he corralled in a long rebound from an Alphonso Davies’ attempt that was saved. Holstein Kiel did eventually get on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute when a cross from Tymoteusz Puchacz found Armin Gigović to beat Manuel Neuer. In the 86th minute, we almost experienced a true #ArpTrain revival as Fiete Arp took a deft touch and rifled a shot that hit the crossbar. That would have take my BFW existence full circle. A late (and somewhat soft) penalty put Kane at the spot, where he succeeded in getting his hat trick and also make it 6-1. Overall, this went as expected. Bayern Munich was completely overwhelming. Musiala, after a week of being under the microscope, came out and played with both an edge and a flair to his game that reminded everyone why he can be so special. If you missed our Initial Analysis, Match Awards, Observations, or Postgame Podcast, give them a look and/or a listen: LFC could balk at selling price if Musiala leaves Bayern (Empire of the Kop)Liverpool FC like Jamal Musiala, but maybe not enough to completely upset its financial status: Liverpool have been quoted an exorbitant transfer price for one ‘world-class’ player in whom they’re reportedly interested.According to CaughtOffside, the Reds are showing an ‘increasing interest’ in Jamal Musiala, who’s into the final two years of his current contract at Bayern Munich and appears to be stalling on whether or not to commit his long-term future to the Bundesliga giants.Sources speaking with the outlet hinted that the 21-year-old’s priority is to stay at the Allianz Arena, although he’s understood to be keen on keeping the situation open because of his ambitions to play in the Premier League. The Germany international’s…
