However, now that we know Bayern have been in contact with Laimer’s management, this meeting makes much more sense to have happened on the topic of Laimer rather than Mané. Verbal agreement in principle. Offer is less than €30m transfer fee. @SkySportDE @Sky_Marc— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) July 15, 2022If this move goes through, Bayern’s midfield might end up being a little too crowded, albeit laden with immense talent and depth. Laimer would join new signing Ryan Gravenberch along with Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Marcel Sabitzer (should Nagelsmann play him in the first team). But where would the Austrian fit in the depth chart? Or will Nags play him elsewhere?Nagelsmann and Laimer have an existing rapport which will definitely come in handy should this move end up happening, but the question is whether or not the coach trusts his former player more than the likes of Kimmich and Goretzka for example.Would this transfer work? However, the consequences of waiting will mean more suitors, with Jürgen Klopp’s midfield-hungry Liverpool FC now in the hunt:News #Laimer: Yes, #LFC tried to get him in the last days but it was impossible. Contract extension in Leipzig beyond 2023 is very unlikely, his departure as a free agent totally possible. Bayern still interested. Liverpool as well. More to come in the next months. At Bayern, the midfield is presently loaded with the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Marcel Sabitzer, and Ryan Gravenberch — but that has evidently not stopped the club’s pursuit of reinforcement possibilities, particularly those with defensive characteristics. Laimer is strong in the tackle and in the press, suiting Bayern’s style of defending in part via aggressive counter-pressing.Bayern might still be in a position of strength, as the player had been said to be interested in a Bavarian reunion with coach Julian Nagelsmann. And Liverpool’s needs look immediate — so if Die Roten Bullen feel they need their pressing machine for the whole season to secure a Champions League place, Klopp’s side might call for reinforcements to address their aging and injury-riddled midfield by the end of January instead. That said, a lot can change for all three teams between now and the start of the winter transfer window. And even if Leipzig refuse to sell, Laimer will be free to negotiate with other clubs for his next contract once he’s within the last six months of his current one — which is to expire at the end of June 2023.

Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka have been entrenched as starters, while Marcel Sabitzer has also been very good this season. Ryan Gravenberch is also on the roster and has reportedly been unhappy with his lack of playing time. Still, Gravenberch has great potential.Laimer’s skillset indicates he would bring something different to the midfield mix given his ball-winning and pressing ability, but it would seem like there could be a glut of talent for only a little bit of playing time.In the end, that will be up to Julian Nagelsmann to sort out.Liverpool had also been rumored to be interested in Laimer.

Some Premier League teams have attempted to swoop in at the last second to “hijack” the move, but Laimer kept his focus on Bayern Munich:News #Laimer: He is going to pass his medical soon. FC Schalke 04 v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Joachim Bywaletz/DeFodi Images via Getty Images The worst kept secret about Bayern Munich has gone official. After months of speculation, Bayern Munich has finally made it official — the club announced the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer. Laimer, a 25-year-old Austria international, is best known for his ball-winning ability and should add depth and a different skill-set to the Bayern Munich midfield. Laimer can play the No. 6 or the No. 8 and can also be used as a right-back on short notice if the team finds itself battling injuries: #ServusKonrad

FC Bayern verpflichtet Konrad #Laimer! ⚪

https://t.co/DaWrfg8Q1Y#MiaSanMia #FCBayern— FC Bayern München (@FCBayern) June 9, 2023The biggest questions that arise with this transfer are how it will affect Leon Goretzka, Marcel Sabitzer, and Ryan Gravenberch. Public opinion on Goretzka seems to be souring a bit and he has found himself in the middle of a controversy by being fingered at the catalyst for Germany’s World Cup protest, which was not something fully backed by all members of the national team. Sabitzer figures to be the odd-man out and seems likely to move on when he returns from his loan at Manchester United. As for Gravenberch, the squeaky wheel got the grease. After complaining about a lack of playing time in the Hinrunde, the Dutchman was left off the Dutch World Cup squad and started to emerge in loan and transfer rumors (including one involving Liverpool). If no one leaves, Bayern Munich will have five starting caliber midfielders on its roster — something that might only work if the team moves to a 4-3-3. Whatever the case, Laimer’s presence will give Thomas Tuchel a midfielder who can operate a little bit differently than the other players on the roster. Per Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, Laimer received a four-year contract from Bayern Munich.

The good news is that there is nothing certain (at this stage) regarding why Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano missed training, so (optimistically), fans can hope it was all precautionary. Sky Sport journalist Thorben Hoffmann tweeted the initial report (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): Third training session in Faro is underway. The Dutchman briefly laid down on the ground in yesterday’s afternoon session after a challenge in the final practice match, but was able to continue. It’s unclear whether his absence could have something to do with that.As we would later find out, De Ligt has a capsular injury in his knee and has been ruled out, though a release on FCBayern.com did not specify a timeline for his return: Matthijs de Ligt has suffered a capsular injury in his left knee during the training camp in Faro, Portugal. The diagnosis was confirmed by FC Bayern’s medical department following an MRI scan there. The defender will therefore not be able to train for now.It can be assumed that De Ligt is probably out for this weekend’s match (though it is not definite), but Upamecano’s status is still uncertain. If one or — (gulp!) both — players are hurt, this could be a baptism by fire for Eric Dier against Werder Bremen. Well...maybe notSpeaking of Dier, he left camp due to the imminent birth of his child per FCBayern.com: New signing Eric Dier is also leaving the training camp this Tuesday as the birth of his first child is imminent.Freund joins the squadAfter initially staying back in Germany to work on transfer, kicker is reporting that sporting director Christoph Freund has traveled to Portugal to meet up with the team (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): Christoph Freund will join the team in Portugal this evening. FC Bayern Munich vs Celtic FC - UEFA Champions League Photo credit should read Oryk Haist / GocherImagery/Future Publishing via Getty Images This club is allergic to making good decisions Bayern Munich has had its fair share of terrible decisions over the years, but their most recent one gives the worst a run for the money: the club wants to sell Sacha Boey per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg:Sacha #Boey could leave FC Bayern as early as this summer. If a suitable offer is made, the club are open to discussions. The 24-y/o right-back has not yet established himself as a regular starter. His contract runs until 2028.For the right-back position next season, Josip #Stanisic and Konrad #Laimer are expected to be the club’s main priorities.Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) backed up the report from Plettenberg: @SPORTBILD confirms @Plettigoal/Sky’s report that Sacha Boey is a candidate for sale in the summer should a suitable offer come in for him. Instead, Bayern would rely on Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer as right-back options next season. Boey has had to deal with numerous injuries and wasn’t able to establish himself in the team, which is why the club is ready to move him onAfter rumors that João Palhinha is on the chopping block (hours after head coach Vincent Kompany labelled the midfield as a weakness of the team), this is just another decision that really makes you think if the board is all there. Yeah, Josip Stanišić can be the starting right-back at some point but he can’t be overplayed because what if he gets injured? His record isn’t the greatest. Konrad Laimer isn’t a right-back—he won’t be effective all the time—and Joshua Kimmich is in limbo with his contract talks at a dead end. Don’t even begin to suggest Raphaël Guerreiro. Apart from Kimmich and Stani, who else is a true-right back in this team?If Hiroki Ito is being given chances after such a lengthy layout, then why can’t the club do the same for Boey? He is a top-class right back when fit, even during his time at Galatasaray— you saw what he did against Bayern in the Champions League a couple seasons ago. This is in no way slating Ito, but it’s not fair by the club. They want to save up on wages? There are other players who contribute way less than an injured Boey—mind you—who earn more than him.
