Bayern Muenchen II v TSV 1860 Muenchen - 3. LigaPhoto by Roland Krivec/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesBayern Munich’s American defender will look to find minutes at his new club.Chris Richards has been touted as one of Bayern Munich’s brightest young players in recent times. And at the start of the season, it looked like the American might break into Bayern’s first team after he had a couple appearances for the seniors. However, in the past few months, Richards has rarely been used by Hansi Flick. Therefore, now, TSG Hoffenheim are set to sign Richards on loan. This news comes courtesy of Sky Germany and reporter Max Bielefeld:Sky sources: @USMNT player Chris Richards from @FCBayern will go on loan to @tsghoffenheim. Last details still to be negotiated between the clubs. He didn’t participate in today’s training session and already said goodbye to some team mates #TransferUpdate @Sky_Torben @Sky_Marc— Max Bielefeld (@Sky_MaxB) January 31, 2021According to Bielefeld, Richards has already said goodbye to some of his teammates and wasn’t in Bayern’s latest training session although the “last details (are) still to be negotiated between the clubs.”This transfer makes sense for a number of reasons. Firstly, Richards will be able to experience valuable playing time at the high level of the Bundesliga. Furthermore, Richards path to first team football was just unrealistic in his two favoured positions — with a number of players above him in the pecking order at right-back and centre-back.All in all, this seems like a good move to a team that plays a similar football philosophy to that of Bayern Munich, at a high level and under a coach who has already worked with Richards before. Hopefully Richards is able to improve as a player during his loan spell and establish himself as a starting contender for when he returns to Munich.Update [8:10AM EST]Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg has confirmed Bielefeld’s report and has also added that there is no “option-to-buy” clause attached to this loan agreement:Update Chris #Richards: The info from the Sky colleague is correct. He will join @tsghoffenheim on a 6-months loan. @SPORT1 #FCBayern— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) January 31, 2021

FC Bayern München II Team PresentationPhoto by Alexander Hassenstein/Bongarts/Getty ImagesBayern Munich prospect Chris Richards will head to Hoffenheim in hopes of getting more field time.In a move that has been anticipated for days, Bayern Munich prospect Chris Richards will head to Hoffenheim on a loan assignment. While no official details were released by the clubs, the term of the loan is expected to be six months and there likely is no “option-to-buy” unless there was a late-breaking change in the agreement between the clubs:Welcome, @eastmamba

The Birmingham, Alabama native is most known for his skillful defending and deft passing ability, often drawing comparisons to Jerome Boateng. The move should be viewed as a positive for the young American, who has an incredible amount of talent. With former Bayern Munich II manager Sebastian Hoeneß at the helm, Richards will be working under a boss he is familiar with and who will know exactly how to help Richards continue to evolve as a player.Good luck at @tsghoffenheim, @eastmamba! ⚽️

@FCBayernEN: RT @Plettigoal: ❗️(2/2) Update Omar #Richards: Saliham. & Neppe put in a lot of effort. #FCBayern was the most exciting transfer option for him. OR was not only offered the backup role for Davies. The left-footer can also play in central def., doubly interesting as Alaba is set to leave. @SPORT1i
A-League Rd 7 - Western Sydney v Melbourne CityPhoto by Steve Christo/Corbis via Getty ImagesPirmin Schwegler’s input at Bayern Munich is already carrying a lot of weight.Bayern Munich’s signing of Reading FC left-back Omar Richards on a free transfer is being hailed as good business by many observers. Richards is expected to provide depth behind starter Alphonso Davies, thus alleviating the need for Lucas Hernandez to play on the defensive flank.Hernandez can now focus on his duties at center-back, while Davies seemingly has a capable player as his understudy. One interesting part of the transfer, however, is that Bayern Munich relied on new scout Pirmin Schwegler for much of the evaluation of Richards:Interessant: Für den Transfer von Omar #Richards zum #FCBayern zeichnet sich auch Pirmin Schwegler mitverantwortlich. Der frühere Bundesliga-Profi verstärkt seit November das Scouting-Team des FCB. Seine Analysen - auch zu Richards - werden intern bereits enorm geschätzt.— Manuel Bonke (@mano_bonke) March 5, 2021Interesting: For the transfer of Omar #Richards to the #FCBayern Pirmin Schwegler is also jointly responsible. The former Bundesliga professional joined the FCB scouting team in November. His analyses — including those of Richards — are already hugely valued internally.Schwegler, of course, had a long footballing career playing for FC Luzern, Young Boys, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim, Hannover 96, and Western Sydney Wanderers. With his boots hung up for the last time, the 33-year-old Schwegler has now turned his career toward identifying the next great prospects for Bayern Munich. Once Richards arrives in Bavaria, we’ll start to get an idea if all of that playing experience equates to a good eye for talent.

TSG Hoffenheim v SV Werder Bremen - BundesligaPhoto by Simon Hofmann/Getty ImagesCould Bayern Munich prospect Chris Richards make a permanent move to Hoffenheim?Per a report from Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Hoffenheim would like to extend the loan of Chris Richards — and, if possible, sign the USMNT youngster permanently.Bayern Munich, of course, will have a lot to with that decision as the Bavarians have helped mold Richards since he joined the club on a loan assignment in 2018. Plettenberg tweeted out his report, which states that Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen has already let his counterpart at Bayern Munich, Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic, know about TSG 1899’s intentions:Update Chris #Richards: Hoffenheim would like to extend the loan, but would prefer to sign him permanently. Rosen has signalled to Salihamidzic that he is willing to talk. TSG is totally satisfied with his development and appreciates him – athletically & personally. @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) April 8, 2021Richards immediately became a starter when moving to Hoffenheim and has proven to be a very capable defender for manager Sebastian Hoeneß. Hoeneß had previous experience in working with Richards at Bayern Munich II, where Hoeneß earned acclaim for powering Bayern’s amateur side to a 3. Liga title.Richards, meanwhile, has always shown great promise as a defender and it seizing the opportunity to prove himself in the Bundesliga. A potential move will likely come down to three factors:Richards’ willingness to make a move — either for an extended loan or a permanent transfer.Bayern Munich’s strategic planning for its roster. The sum Hoffenheim would be willing to pay for Richards.Richards is slated to return to Bayern Munich after this season and has a contract that runs through the 2022/2023 season.

Chelsea v Real Madrid - UEFA Champions League Semi Final: Leg TwoPhoto by Pedro Salado/Quality Sport Images/Getty ImagesIt does not sound as if Bayern Munich will add any defenders.According to SPOX journalist Kerry Hau, former Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos was never a serious consideration to sign with Bayern Munich. The club might not even be looking to bolster the backline at all and could rely on some of the young players already in tow.Per Hau, the signing of a player like Ramos would have sent the wrong message to players lie Dayot Upamecano, Tanguy Nianzou, and Chris Richards. Interesting, Hau also shot down the recent rumors regarding Bayern Munich’s alleged interest in Piero Hincapié, a 19-year-old defensive prospect from Ecuador:- IV: #SergioRamos ist kein Thema (und wäre ohnehin das falsche Signal an #Upamecano, #Nianzou und ggf. #Richards). Auch an den Gerüchten aus Südamerika um Ecuador-Talent Piero #Hincapié (19/Atlético Talleres) ist nichts dran.— Kerry Hau (@kerry_hau) July 1, 2021IV:#SergioRamos is not an issue (and would be the wrong signal anyway #Upamecano, #Nianzou and possibly #Richards). Also the rumors from South America about the Ecuadorian talent Piero #Hincapié (19 / Atlético Talleres) is nothing to it.While that might not shock some, there are still a lot of questions as to what will happen on Bayern Munich’s backline. Richards could easily accept another loan assignment, while Niklas Süle has been linked to Chelsea — but has recently been said to be interested ina contract extension in Bavaria.

FC Bayern München v 1. FC Köln - Pre-Season FriendlyPhoto by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Getty ImagesNagelsmann wanted to see players like Zirkzee, Cuisance, and Chris Richards in a match before he and the front office make any decisions regarding loan moves.Bayern Munich’s first preseason match against 1. FC Köln included many players from the second team and from the academy. While Julian Nagelsmann had a lot to look at in his first match in charge of Bayern, he reportedly had a plan to get a look at certain players, before deciding on their futures. Es soll die beste Entscheidung für deren Entwicklung getroffen werden.— Philipp Kessler (@kessler_philipp) July 17, 2021It was Nagelsmann’s desire in the preparations to personally see players like #Zirkzee, #Cuisance, and C. #Richards. Only then will he and the bosses decide how to go forward with these talents. The best decision should be made for their development. The three mentioned players — along with Taylor Booth — have all come back from loan stints this summer and Bayern’s coaching staff and front office trying to come up with the best solution for them. Zirkzee, Richards, and Booth all started and played the first half, while Cuisance came on at halftime and played the rest of the match. Zirkzee scored Bayern’s second goal, which was assisted by Booth. Both players were quite active in the attack — both on and off the ball. Richards didn’t have his best showing. While nothing was terribly wrong, it just seemed like he and Dayot Upamecano couldn’t get on the same page. Cuisance also wasn’t super impressive, but did manage to put in some decent service into the box in the second half as Bayern was searching for a late equalizer. With most of the first team missing today, the players available had a key chance to make Nagelsmann’s decisions tougher when he and the front office make decisions about who stays in Munich, who goes on loan, and who plays with Bayern II. Although we may want to see some of the young talent stay with Bayern, we must remember that their development and the future is what is the most important thing — except with Cuisance, who knows what we are going to do with him?!

FC Bayern Muenchen Training And Press Conference - FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty ImagesOne step forward and one (potential) step backward for Bayern Munich on the injury front. Typical. There’s some good news, but also some slightly bad news on the injury front for Bayern Munich. Per the club’s official website, Alphonso Davies has resumed doing ball work at Sabener Strasse as he continues working his way back from a torn lateral ligament in his left ankle. He sustained the injury while on international duty with Canada at the Gold Cup in North America and unfortunately, missed out on the tournament entirely as a result.Davies started running on the pitch last week and even though he’s resumed ball work, he’s not ready for full team training yet. His involvement in Bayern’s Bundesliga opener next Friday against Borussia Monchengladbach is still in question, as well was whenever Bayern’s first round DFB-Pokal clash against Bremer SV will be rescheduled. With Lucas Hernandez also injured, options in the back could be running thin for Julian Nagelsmann.Per Tz’s Manuel Bonke, Omar Richards has also recently complained about discomfort in his left foot and went into the dressing room to get assessed after Bayern’s squad was officially unveiled at the Allianz Arena today. The severity of the problem is not yet known, but this will certainly be cause for concern for Nagelsmann. He already has Hernandez and Davies on the injury list, and if Richards’s foot problem is something relatively serious, Nagelsmann might not have a left back to start against ‘Gladbach next Friday.Richards has featured in all of Bayern’s preseason friendlies and has looked positive in all of his appearances at left-back. With the injuries to both Hernandez and Davies, he was Nagelsmann’s go-to option at left back, so hopefully his foot problem does not jeopardize that fate for the Bundesliga opener or the first round DFB-Pokal reschedule against Bremer SV.Bei #FCBayern Neuzugang Omar #Richards zwickt‘s: Nach Gesprächen mit den Physios Huhn und Bianchi und Co-Trainer Toppmöller geht’s für ihn in die Kabine. Now, with a long-term deal in place, Richards will again leave Bavaria for a loan stint with Bundesliga rival Hoffenheim.FC Bayern has extended the contract with defender Chris Richards until 2025 and is loaning the 21-year-old US international to TSG Hoffenheim for one season.Sports director Hasan Salihamidžić: “We are very happy about the development Chris Richards has taken with us, which is why we have also extended his contract. Chris is a young player who will now gain more Bundesliga experience in Hoffenheim, and that’s exactly what he needs. “Chris Richards joined the German record champions’ U-19 juniors from FC Dallas in 2018.Hoffenheim did not waste any time in releasing the good news to its fans.
