Life Before and After Embracing Islam

Islam emphasizes the idea of rebirth through faith, as highlighted in the Quran (Surah Al-An'am 6:122): "Is he who was dead and We gave him life and made for him a light whereby he can walk among men, like him whose similitude is that of one in utter darkness from which he cannot emerge?"

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said, "When a person embraces Islam, their past sins are forgiven, and they start anew as if they were just born." (Sahih Muslim)

Life's journey before embracing Islam may have been characterized by a search for purpose, identity, or meaning. The transition to life after embracing Islam brings a sense of purpose and clarity grounded in the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah.

Zainab, the inspiring lady who recently embraced Islam in England, shares a valuable lesson she learned from Imam Musa al-Kadhim:
✅ The profound teaching I acquired from Imam Musa al-Kadhim is the virtue of enduring hardships with unwavering patience.

As I delved into the life of Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him) and witnessed his unyielding spirit, even in the face of imprisonment and torture, I was deeply moved. It became a poignant reminder for me to emulate this resilience in my own life. The Imam's steadfastness, despite the harshest of circumstances, serves as a beacon of inspiration, motivating me to confront and endure my challenges with grace and faith.

🔺 Ibrahim Killington, a new convert to Islam from England Numerous individuals attest that upon finding Islam, it feels akin to returning home. This echoes the very sentiment that resonated within me. Do not fret about what your family might think after…
🔺 Ibrahim Killington, a young man from Norfolk, England, who initially harbored intentions of harming Muslims, ultimately embraced Islam.

As reported by Rahyafte (a comprehensive platform for missionaries and new Muslims), Ibrahim Killington, a British man from Norfolk, became increasingly angered after the September 11th incident. He convinced himself to take actions against Muslims, thinking that eliminating as many as possible would serve his purpose. However, fate had a different plan for him, and his heart softened after reading the Quran.

Now, let's hear his story in his own words.

Before embracing Islam, my life revolved around pleasure, substance abuse, and indulgence. My sole aim was to enjoy life, be happy, and live in a way that would be tolerable until my last breath. I associated with people who shared similar interests, not necessarily the best companions, but those with whom I could relate.

My first encounter with Muslims was during the 9/11 attacks. At that time, being relatively young, I had no complete understanding of the events unfolding. As war news in Afghanistan dominated, I began associating Muslims with heinous violence worldwide. Post-media bombardment, I developed intense hatred towards Muslims.

I made three attempts to join the military with the intention of killing as many people as I could, believing that Muslims posed the greatest threat to the world.

The last time I applied to enlist, I started researching Islam. It was during this time that I stumbled upon a radio network affiliated with the U.S. government, known as "Terror Talk." Surprisingly, they discussed the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It seemed implausible to me that people would follow him despite all the negative things said about him. So, I began questioning Muslim beliefs. Concurrently, I was spiritually exploring Norse mythology and paganism.

Finally, I borrowed the Quran from the university library. Initially fearing that it was a terrorist manual, I anticipated possible surveillance by military intelligence (MI5) as soon as I borrowed it. However, upon reading it, I was deeply moved. The Quran had penetrated my heart, especially as I read about people in the fire with boiling water to drink, feeling as if my own throat was burning. It became evident to me that these were not just stories; they were realities, and I needed to change.

I attended the mosque, spending the entire day reading the Quran. When my mother called in the evening and asked where I had been, I told her I was at the mosque. She, shocked, insisted that I, as a Christian, couldn't be in a mosque, as Christians don't go there.

Initially, my mother was deeply troubled, believing I had taken a wrong path. Her initial reaction, though, evolved over time, and she eventually accepted it. She cried a lot, perhaps thinking that everything she had taught me had been in vain.

Many people say that when they find Islam, it feels like coming home. This is exactly the feeling I had. In the past, I wasn't truly myself; I was controlled by external influences. Since becoming Muslim, only good things have happened to me.

If I were to advise someone considering Islam, I would say, go to the mosque and talk to an imam; never seek answers to your questions online. While there is valuable information on the internet, without prior knowledge of Islam, you can't discern what is right and what is wrong. It's better to converse with an informed person and interact with Muslims. I spent many weeks among them, understanding their character and traits.

Don't be afraid of what your family might think after embracing Islam. Many of us worried about our parents' reactions, but in the end, Islam is for you, and you must hope that the best will happen for your parents afterward. 🌐 @rahyafte_en #IbrahimKillington #ConvertToIslam #JourneyToFaith #EmbracingChange #FamilyAcceptance 🤲

🔺 Christopher Mix: A Journey to Islam

I am incredibly blessed to have been guided to Islam.

According to Rahyafte (a comprehensive platform for missionaries and new Muslims), Palestinian martyr Khaled Al-Nabhan, a grandfather known for the phrase "روح الروح" (Spirit of my Soul) to describe his beloved grandchild, never imagined that his words would impact so many lives across the globe, even changing lives thousands of kilometers away. One of those whose life changed due to these words was an American named Christopher Mix.

Christopher, residing in California, shared his story with Al Jazeera Mubasher about how Khaled Al-Nabhan's words impacted him and ultimately led him to embrace Islam.

A Deep Emotional Awakening
In October 2023, Christopher became deeply aware of the daily suffering of the Palestinian people. He describes: “My heart broke again and again. I’ve never felt such deep sorrow or cried so much.”

He felt a profound sense of guilt: “Seeing bombs sent by my country to Israel and witnessing the bodies of innocent people torn apart in Gaza filled me with guilt and shame, and I felt helpless. I tried to suppress these indescribable emotions, but it only made things worse.”

Turning Point: A Profound Impact from a Painful Moment
Christopher’s life transformation occurred two months after the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, in December 2023. He recounts: “I saw an elderly man with a white beard holding the lifeless body of a small girl. He lovingly touched her face with his beard and thanked God. I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much as I did at that moment.”

He adds: “While thoughts about this great faith were forming in my mind, feelings of sorrow, anger, hatred, and guilt overwhelmed me. I wondered, what could I do to show sympathy for this man? How could I say I’m sorry?”

The First Step Towards the Mosque and Islam
To find peace, someone suggested Christopher visit the mosque and pray for Gaza. He recalls: “An internet user suggested I go to the mosque and pray for Gaza. Years ago, I stopped identifying as Christian, but I still believed in God. So, I decided to give it a try.”

His first experience at the mosque was nerve-wracking but meaningful: “I was very nervous, but I had nothing to lose. When I entered the mosque, I started praying. When I saw others prostrating, I put my head to the ground. I felt like many eyes were on me, but I didn’t care because I wasn’t there for them.”

He continues: “I clearly remember my first prayer. I started crying while praying for those I saw suffering. I immediately felt a peace I had never experienced before—a peace I had been searching for all my life in different churches and religions.”

Embracing Islam and Beginning a New Path
A few weeks later, on January 12, 2024, Christopher embraced Islam. He says: “After several weeks of daily visits to the mosque, I recited the Shahada. The brothers here embraced me with open arms. I truly feel like I belong here, and I am so fortunate to have been guided to Islam.”

He concludes his story by honoring Khaled Al-Nabhan: “It all started with Uncle Khaled. He is my ‘روح الروح.’ I pray to God that he grants him the highest ranks of paradise.”

Khaled Al-Nabhan was martyred on December 16, 2023, due to an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza. His phrase “روح الروح,” which he said to his granddaughter Rima during their farewell, became famous after her martyrdom in November 2023.
