πŸ’« A New Chapter Unfolding

Embracing Islam isn't just a personal choice; it's a transformative journey that reshapes one's identity and outlook on life. The ripples of this profound change extend far beyond the surface, influencing perspectives, values, and daily interactions.

🌊 Continuing the Wave of Islam in the West

The ongoing wave of Islam reaching the Western world is more than a mere trend; it signifies a global shift towards spiritual exploration and openness. People from diverse backgrounds are finding solace and purpose in the teachings of Islam.

🌍 Unity in Diversity

Islam's universal message emphasizes unity in diversity, breaking down barriers of race, nationality, and social status. It echoes the Quranic verse:

πŸ“œ "O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted." (Quran, 49:13)

🌺 Pride in Faith

The pride in one's faith is not an arrogance but a celebration of the profound impact it has on one's character and perspective. The journey of a new Muslim is a testament to the beauty of personal growth and resilience in the face of change.

Life Before and After Embracing Islam

Islam emphasizes the idea of rebirth through faith, as highlighted in the Quran (Surah Al-An'am 6:122): "Is he who was dead and We gave him life and made for him a light whereby he can walk among men, like him whose similitude is that of one in utter darkness from which he cannot emerge?"

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said, "When a person embraces Islam, their past sins are forgiven, and they start anew as if they were just born." (Sahih Muslim)

Life's journey before embracing Islam may have been characterized by a search for purpose, identity, or meaning. The transition to life after embracing Islam brings a sense of purpose and clarity grounded in the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah.

🌟 "Discovering Islam in Iceland: A Journey of Faith"

In the enchanting land of Iceland, I came into this world in 1976. Raised in the official religion of the country, Protestantism, my family's faith never played a fundamental role in my upbringing. Despite attending Sunday church classes, summer camps, and bedtime prayers with my grandmother, religion didn't have a prominent place in our lives.

In Icelandic tradition, around the age of 14, adolescents undergo a special ceremony to formally embrace the Christian faith. At that time, I grappled with a spiritual void and questioned my complete faith in Christianity. After much contemplation, I realized that denying God's existence was an impossibility for me, even if it meant not participating in the ceremony.

To prepare for the ceremony, I attended religious classes and church services regularly. However, the church failed to fill the intellectual gap in my faith. Despite this, I found contentment in sporadic prayers without religion playing a significant role in my life.

Islam, an unknown minority in Iceland, was unfamiliar to me during my childhood. However, Christianity and Judaism were taught in school. The intertwining of Christian and Jewish history led to the curious perception of Islam as the religion of Muhammad and its followers referred to as "Mohammadiyya." Even in recent months, I've come across these names in the media.

My knowledge of Islam was limited to information presented by the media, which unfortunately did not portray a positive image. Fortunately, my view of Islam was never tainted with hatred or disgust. Perhaps this was influenced by my friend's journey as an exchange student in Indonesia, where he shared positive experiences with Muslims. However, it wasn't until my studies in the United States in 1997 that I had close encounters with Muslims.

During my time in the U.S., I engaged in unbiased conversations about Islam, driven by a newfound curiosity. These discussions were pivotal for me. Initially captivated by fascinating aspects of Islam, my excitement waned as I encountered concepts that I struggled to understand or accept.

In my quest to comprehend the complexities of Islam, I almost convinced myself that I didn't need to convert, that a change in lifestyle would suffice. I was filled with fear and confusion. At times, Islam seemed like my lost truth, urging me to submit to God, while at other times, I faced challenges that altered my perception.

Eventually, I cleared my mind, embraced Islam, and recited the Shahadah in the presence of four Muslim sisters and online witnesses. Post-conversion, I encountered both beauty and challenges. I strive to deepen my understanding of Islam to become a better Muslim. Despite lacking positive feedback from family and friends, I am confident that I made the right decision, and I am forever grateful to God for guiding me towards the truth. 🌸🀲 #JourneyToIslam #FaithDiscovery #IcelandicConvert #IslamInIceland #NewBeginnings

American Journey: Sumayyah Meehan's Transformation

βœ… Sumayyah Meehan, a seasoned journalist, marketer, and independent graphic designer, embarked on a remarkable journey 23 years ago when she embraced Islam. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Sumayyah holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

πŸ“° According to reports from Rahyafte (a comprehensive platform for missionaries and new Muslims), Sumayyah reflects on her conversion story with gratitude and humility, emphasizing the clarity and ease of understanding found in the Quran.

🌍 Follow her insightful journey at @rahyafte_en.

Discovering Islam: A Clear Path to the Heart

Sumayyah recalls her conversion, stating, "Thanks to God's mercy, I spent the first half of my life as a Christian and the second half as a Muslim." She vividly describes the moment she stood in a local mosque, reciting the Shahadah, marking the beginning of her transformative journey.

"I have learned a lot on this path, and I am grateful to God for where I am. Only with Islam did everything make sense. The Quran is explicit, and its ease of understanding quickly penetrated my heart."

A Healing Journey

Sumayyah admits that after her Shahadah, moments of despair followed. While content with being a Muslim, she struggled to find support in learning the religious principles, prayers, and ablution. However, she discovered that seeking guidance from the Muslim community was the key to overcoming these challenges.

"As a new Muslim over the past two decades, there are still unknowns about Islam that surprise me. I remain a lifelong student of this magnificent faith."

God Replaces Everything

One of the significant lessons Sumayyah learned as a new Muslim is the potential disruption of friendships and family relationships when one changes their religion. Reflecting on her Christian upbringing, she nostalgically remembers family holidays and traditions. However, she found solace in replacing those bonds with a stronger connection to God.

"Leaving my old faith may have distanced me from that community, but God proved to be sufficient."

Islam: A Home for the Heart

Sumayyah expresses gratitude for building a Muslim family within the global Muslim community. She cherishes online connections with sisters worldwide and values the support and trust she finds in her local community. Most importantly, her children, now Muslims, contribute to the sense of belonging to one large family.

Next Chapter

Looking back, Sumayyah almost forgets there was a time when she wasn't Muslim. Every day, month, and year devoted to worshiping the one God has been a fulfilling time for her. With five children, she eagerly anticipates the next chapter in her life's journey.

Part 1 ♦ Lubov: "I asked for a sign, and I received it. From that day, I had complete faith that there is a Creator." According to Rahyaftegan (a comprehensive platform for missionaries and new Muslims), Lubov (Lily), a Russian convert living in MΓΌnster…
Part 2

Whenever I had time to think, I began speaking directly to God, asking, "If You really exist, why is everything so unclear to me?"

It started as a one-sided conversation, then turned into a direct plea: "If You exist and hear me, give me a sign." I wanted a sign, and I got one; from that day on, I was fully convinced that a Creator exists.

Once I was sure of the existence of a Creator, I realized that many people believe in this in different ways. I began to explore what different religions said about God and this life.

I bought books on the five major religions: Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism. I started by reading these books, comparing them, and asking myself which aligned with my understanding of God and my feelings.

Buddhism and Hinduism were quickly ruled out. Among the three monotheistic religions, I examined Judaism first and set it aside. Then I focused on Islam and Christianity, comparing them.

What I needed were answers to my questions. I found those answers in the Quran, which not only answered my questions but also gave direction to my life. It provided a holistic view, bringing a sense of harmony within me.

As I approached the end of my studies, I spent a lot of time with friends and colleagues. One night, as I sat outside, I asked myself, "If you continue with this life, will you be happy?" The thought troubled me because I had no satisfying answer.

The next day, I had a train journey and was waiting at the station. It was a sunny day, and I realized that fear was holding me back. I had built a wall around myself, afraid to take the next step. As I stood on the platform, looking at the tracks below, I felt like I was standing at the edge of a dark abyss, filled with emptiness. This realization made me very sad.

Approaching my 18th birthday, I had chosen a religion but hadn't taken any steps forward. I was standing at the gate but hadn't entered, afraid to walk the path I knew was right. When you know the right way but don't have the courage to follow it, it's like betraying yourself.

I boarded the train, tears streaming down my face. From a distance, I saw a blind man sitting on a four-seat section, marked by an armband. I clearly remember thinking how fortunate it was that he couldn't see my tears. I watched as he touched his watch to check the time and listened to a text message he received, later telling me it was a poem sent to him. I marveled at this blind man, full of life, sending poems to his friends, while I, in the prime of my youth and health, was struggling to find peace with life. I admired him greatly.

As we traveled, at the next station, I saw a boy standing outside my window, holding a woman's hand. He was also blind. Doubts crept inβ€”I thought, "I travel by train often, but I've never noticed blind people at the station before." At the following station, on the same platform, but for a different train, stood a Black man, also blind, holding a woman's hand. In that moment, it hit me: perhaps I was the one who had been blind until now. This realization opened my eyes.

A few days later, through a Muslim friend, I learned of an event at a mosque. I decided to take the first step. We went together to the event, which lasted three days. There, in front of the mosque, I wore a headscarf for the first time with the help of my friend. I spent three days in that mosque, and it was a new world for me, one I had never experienced before. I had never been to a mosque, seen Muslims pray, or known anyone who practiced Islam. Those three days had a profound impact on me. After returning home, I no longer wanted to remove my hijab.
