When Professor Muhammad Legenhausen joined the University of Texas for teaching, he never thought that one day, after familiarizing himself with the rich teachings of Islam and the intellectual principles of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), he would embraceβ¦
Can you provide more details about your conversion to Islam and the circumstances at that time?
My conversion to Islam, for those engaged in religious propagation, is a complex story because scientific, emotional, and various other issues were involved. During my teaching at the University of South Texas, I met an Iranian student named Akbar Nowdohi, who was taking an "Introduction to Philosophy" course with me. Akbar didn't attend class for two weeks, and when I saw him at the university office, I asked him why he wasn't coming to class. He said, "Our people in Iran have had a revolution, and I think it's important that students here have accurate information about it. Therefore, I felt it necessary to introduce this revolution to students, and because of this, I can't come to class. I agreed with him and said, "Okay, that's right, but you have to read the lesson yourself." Later, I arranged with him that I would take care of introducing the Iranian revolution to students, and he agreed to read his lessons. After this incident, we became friends and collaborated on various activities until he graduated and returned to Iran. Later, I heard that he went to the front lines and achieved martyrdom there. We used to discuss his beliefs. He was a good student, spoke very sincerely, and had serious beliefs with no doubts. Since meeting Akbar, it took almost three years for me to convert to Islam. During this time, I attended mosques, talked to Muslims, and gradually understood the attractions of Islam more. I had learned how to perform prayers, and sometimes I prayed, especially enjoying congregational prayers. However, I hadn't uttered the two testimonies of faith. One day, after the Friday prayer in the mosque parking lot, several African American Muslims came up to me and said they wanted to get to know me, asked about how I got acquainted with Islam, and so on. I recited the two testimonies of faith in front of them and officially became a Muslim, and I cried! They were very happy, and on the very first day, they suggested that I lead their prayers! We decided to work more closely with each other. Later, with their cooperation, we founded the Muslim Student Association at the University of South Texas. Of course, the group we had there was mostly Sunni, but from the beginning, I had no doubt that I would become Shia because I had read Nahj al-Balagha and wanted to accept Shia Islam.
How did it happen that after meeting African American Muslims, you uttered the two testimonies of faith and formally became a Muslim? Did anything special happen to you?
No, this did not happen overnight, and I had thought a lot about Islam before. But meeting these African American Muslims aroused my enthusiasm for accepting Islam. I was very close to Islam before seeing them, and I was almost at the threshold of Islam. However, meeting them was interesting for me, and their sincerity encouraged me to accept Islam and drew me towards Islam.

If someone completely abandons sin and wrongdoing, it is impossible for the gates to the highest spiritual stations not to open before them. The act of forsaking sin itself is transformative for an individual, paving the way for elevated spiritual attainments.
This concept is beautifully reflected in Islamic teachings, emphasizing not only the importance of repentance but also the profound impact it has on one's spiritual journey. The Quran and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) highlight the mercy and forgiveness of Allah for those who sincerely repent and turn away from sinful behavior.
π "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" (Quran, 39:53)
πΌ "And He is the One Who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons the evil deeds, and He knows what you do." (Quran, 42:25)
By abandoning sin, an individual undergoes a spiritual purification, drawing closer to the Divine and unlocking doors to higher realms of consciousness. The transformative power of sincere repentance is a profound aspect of Islamic teachings.
Let us embark on a journey of self-reflection and repentance, recognizing the mercy of our Creator. π€²β¨

Life Before and After Embracing Islam
Islam emphasizes the idea of rebirth through faith, as highlighted in the Quran (Surah Al-An'am 6:122): "Is he who was dead and We gave him life and made for him a light whereby he can walk among men, like him whose similitude is that of one in utter darkness from which he cannot emerge?"
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said, "When a person embraces Islam, their past sins are forgiven, and they start anew as if they were just born." (Sahih Muslim)
Life's journey before embracing Islam may have been characterized by a search for purpose, identity, or meaning. The transition to life after embracing Islam brings a sense of purpose and clarity grounded in the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah.

Maria Ahadi: From Imprisonment to Islam
According to Rahyafte (Comprehensive Platform for Missionaries and New Muslims), Maria Ahadi, a former female inmate in Fardis Rehabilitation Center, shares her transformative journey to Islam after encountering Hazrat Abolfazl (AS).
Maria Ahadi, imprisoned for 17 years on murder charges in three different prisons (Shiraz, Rajaei Shahr, and Fardis Rehabilitation Center), reveals, "During this period, none of the authorities were aware of my Christian background."
Attending the mourning ceremonies of Imam Hussein (AS) and hearing the elegy for Hazrat Abolfazl (AS) had an inexplicable impact on her. She describes her spiritual awakening and recognition of Islam through her connection with Hazrat Abolfazl (AS).
The cultural mentor at Fardis Rehabilitation Center, upon learning about her conversion from Christianity to Islam, introduced her to various books, including "Fatimah Fatimah Ast." Subsequently, she established a personal library with over 800 titles, reigniting hope for a new life. Maria documented her memories in seven volumes.
The initial challenge she faced after embracing Islam was memorizing Ayat al-Kursi. The profound satisfaction she experienced upon successful memorization marked a turning point. Prior to this, Maria had no belief in freedom or returning to society, even avoiding social workers in prison. However, with the support of counselors and benefactors, she gained the approval of judicial authorities and secured her release, attributing her transformation to Hazrat Abolfazl (AS).
Maria also briefly mentions her criminal case and obtaining the consent of the involved parties, facilitated by the rehabilitation section. Born in France in 1376, she moved to Iran, her homeland, where her father is buried.
A graduate in Persian literature from Shahid Beheshti University, Maria initially worked in a construction company in Tehran. Intrigued by the construction potential in the warm climate of Shiraz, she relocated to the city. An encounter leading to marriage resulted in a tragic incident in their rented house with a swimming pool, where her husband's attempt to teach the neighboring 7-year-old girl to swim ended in a fatal accident. Maria took responsibility for the incident to secure her husband's release, even though he later died in a car accident after two years.

Richard Killhord, a recent convert to Islam from Belgium: β
I am honored to have found salvation from death through Islam. Discover more about my journey at rahyafteha.ir/4330/. #ConvertedMuslim #JourneyToIslam π Follow my story at @rahyafte_en.
Belgian Professor Embraces Islam at Imam Reza Shrine ππ
According to Rahyafte (the comprehensive platform for missionaries and recent converts), citing the Holy Shrine authorities, Richard Killhord, accompanied by his Iranian friend, visited the shrine of Imam Reza to perform the testimony of faith (Tashahhud). He embraced Islam and Shi'ism by declaring the two testimonies.
This recent Belgian Muslim, who currently resides in Belgium and works as a technical professor at a university, shared, "I used to be a Catholic Christian by faith. However, about five years ago, numerous unanswered questions prompted me to explore various religions, including Islam. Eventually, I found Islam to be the most complete and satisfying religion, finding answers to my questions within it."
Killhord continued, "Interaction with Iranian and Malaysian friends, observing their behavior, made me more curious about understanding this religion. Witnessing the mourning rituals for Imam Hussein (AS) during the month of Muharram in Iran was particularly captivating for me, showcasing the belief, love, and devotion of the people towards the Ahlul Bayt (AS). This motivated me to delve deeper into the enlightening Islamic faith."
He further expressed, "Following a friend's recommendation, I visited Tehran a week ago. From there, I traveled to the holy city of Mashhad and reached the sacred shrine of Imam Reza (AS)."
The university professor added, "I cannot express what is in my heart about Islam before becoming a Muslim. I felt lost, like someone wandering in a waterless and barren desert with no hope of survival. However, with the honor of embracing Islam, I have been revived and found salvation from death."
Regrettably, Killhord noted that the process of conversion to Islam in Belgium is slow. Despite a positive trend encouraging people towards the truth, there is also a negative current hindering people from seeking the truth.
Commenting on the spread of Islam in European countries, he said, "In the past, Islam was relatively unknown in European countries, and people had little knowledge about this heavenly religion. However, currently, there is an increasing demand for understanding Islam, and hopefully, the future will witness everyone embracing this truth."
Regarding his familiarity with the Quran, he mentioned, "I have read the translation of the Holy Quran in English, which has greatly aided me in understanding the right path. However, I am eager to learn the Arabic language to read the Quran in its original form."
Killhord concluded by expressing his admiration for the Imam Reza Shrine, stating, "The shrine is truly amazing and different from other places. In this spiritual place, I feel a sense of tranquility, as if I am hearing the voices of angels in the heavenly and spiritual atmosphere of the sacred shrine of Imam Reza."
In the end, the non-Iranian pilgrims' management of Astan Quds Razavi presented him with a copy of the Holy Quran in English and cultural products to enhance his understanding of Islam. ππ #BelgianMuslim #IslamJourney #ImamRezaShrine #NewConverts #SpiritualTransformation

πΈ Have you fasted yet?
"Yes, I fasted during Ramadan this year after converting. When I learned that fasting is beneficial for health and family well-being, I felt even more certain about my choice."
πΈ Is wearing the hijab difficult for you as a new Muslim woman?

πΈ Have you fasted yet?
"Yes, I fasted during Ramadan this year after converting. When I learned that fasting is beneficial for health and family well-being, I felt even more certain about my choice."
πΈ Is wearing the hijab difficult for you as a new Muslim woman?
"Since I live in an Islamic country, no one objects to my hijab. In fact, Iβve become more modest and complete in my covering, and people are surprised. For me, hijab provides a sense of peace, security, and dignity."
