I was meant to share a great one from 50 years ago, 1971... but then I realized tomorrow is the 74th birthday of Sir Elton John, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England. Therefore I chose one of my favorite of his and on the same year 1971... ok, it's not purely rock 😉... but this guy well deserves a place in music history! And in Venice too, since he owns a house on #Giudecca island for ages 😃🔝 #EltonJohn #25March

📜📸Venice Celebrations Series. Festa del Redentore
This weekend in Venice is dedicated to the ancient Festa del Redentore (Redeemer). This comes every third Sunday of July!
On the Saturday's eve there are fantastic night fireworks and Saint Mark's basin begins to fill up with Venetian boats of all kinds, festooned with balloons and garlands.
The #Redentore is a traditional feast to give thanks for the end of the terrible plague of 1576, which killed 50,000 people in Venice including the great painter #Tiziano Vecellio (Titian). The Doge Alvise I Mocenigo promised to build a magnificent church if the plague ended.
Andrea #Palladio was commissioned, assisted by #AntonioDaPonte, and built a majestic church (📸☝️) on the Island of Giudecca, which today is one of the most important examples of Palladian religious architecture.
On the Redentore Sunday, there's the traditional pilgrimage to the Church which is reachable on a bridge made of boats (📸☝️) across the #Giudecca Canal.

💬 Plot Pietro and Alvise are the two heirs of a "moeche" 🦀 fishing family in Giudecca island, Venice. Like everyone here they are overwhelmed by the unstoppable transformation that is changing the life and identity of Venice and its residents: the deep impact of global tourism has changed the relationship between city and citizens, between home and life and the pandemic has made this crisis even more evident. In spite of fatigue and loneliness, Pietro would like to continue fishing moeche 🦀, the typical crabs of the #Lagoon; Alvise, on the other hand, sees in their house in #Giudecca a business opportunity in tourist rental and for entering the real estate elites of the city. Their confrontation involves the whole family on how our world is changing.

👩🎨👮 Today the Pope came to Venice. His visit started in the Women Prison on the #Giudecca island where he opened the Holy See Pavillion for the #ArtBiennale.
I rarely go for modern art but this must be really worth visiting... the women prisoners themselves will guide visitors through the Pavillion every day until November.
Access is free but of course there are strict rules to go in because... it's a prison!
