πŸ“œπŸ“Έ San Polo. The Sestiere (district) we can visit and live heading to Venice center from Bus Station / Car Parks or from Train Station after crossing the Scalzi Bridge. You can see it on the Map☝️❀️bordered in red❀️.
San Polo is the smallest Sestiere in Venice, even though it takes its name from the largest Campo (square) in Venice (not considering St. Mark's), Campo San Polo.
The main attraction in the area is of course #RialtoBridge, which connects it with #SanMarco district, but thanks to my fantastic #WalkingTour in San Polo πŸ˜ƒ you can fully enjoy all main sights, amazing secret places off the beaten tracks, indulge in "prosecco and cicheti"πŸ₯‚ in the place Casanova used to love, while hearing intriguing stories about the Venetian "Carampane" and the "Bridge of the Tits" πŸ˜‰...
Enjoy pictures of #SanPolo in the Chat Room πŸ‘‡ and of course I would love to see yours... πŸ˜ƒ
#VeniceGuide
πŸ“œπŸ“Έ Cannaregio. The first Sestiere (district) we meet when arriving in Venice by train and Airport taxi boat. You can see it on the Map☝️❀️bordered in red❀️.
#Cannaregio is the northern Sestiere in Venice, it also comprehends #SanMichele Island, which is Venice cemetery. Before they built the big bridge that connects Venice Island to the Mainland, the Canal Regio (Italian for Royal Canal) which gives the name to this Sestiere, was the main access to Venice (on water).
Thanks to my fantastic #WalkingTour in Cannaregio πŸ˜ƒ you can fully enjoy all main sights, amazing secret places off the beaten tracks, indulge in "ombra and polpetta" πŸ·πŸ§†πŸ˜‹ in the oldest Hostaria in Venice, while hearing amazing stories about the first #Ghetto in the world, and the first #Casino in the world...
Enjoy pictures of Cannaregio and my Walking Tour Video in the Chat Room πŸ‘‡ ... and of course I would love to see some of your pictures too... πŸ˜ƒ
#VeniceGuide
πŸ“œπŸ“Έ Castello. The last Sestiere (district) we meet when we walk east in Venice. You can see it on the Map☝️❀️bordered in red❀️
Castello is the largest of the six Sestieri of Venice, it starts immediately after St. Mark's Square and it comprehends #Arsenale area, #Biennale area, the amazing Riva degli Schiavoni walk and the stunning islands of #SantElena and San Pietro di Castello. It is also the greenest 🌳 part of Venice, fantastic parks and gardens with amazing views on the city and the Lagoon, and mainly a residential area, so less touristy.
Thanks to my fantastic #WalkingTour in #Castello πŸ˜ƒ you can fully enjoy all main sights, amazing secret places off the beaten tracks, indulge in "prosecco and cicheti al baccalΓ " πŸ₯‚πŸ£πŸ˜‹ in the large Via Garibaldi, while hearing amazing stories about local life and the ghost of the young Chiaretta of the near Sant'Anna nunnery...
Enjoy pictures of Castello in the Chat RoomπŸ‘‡and of course I would love to see some of your pictures too... πŸ˜ƒ
#VeniceGuide
πŸ“œπŸ“Έ San Marco. The most central and famous Sestiere (district) in Venice. You can see it on the Map☝️❀️bordered in red❀️.
San Marco includes of course St. Mark's Square and surroundings, with all its amazing wonders and it's reachable and enclosed by #RialtoBridge and #AccademiaBridge.
The island of #SanGiorgio in front of St. Mark is included in the distict too.
Thanks to my fantastic #WalkingTour in #SanMarco πŸ˜ƒ you can fully enjoy all main sights, amazing secret places off the beaten tracks, indulge in the best Mozzarella in CarrozzaπŸ₯Ÿ in town close to the #BridgeofSighs, while hearing amazing stories about #Casanova escape from Piombi prisons and its ghost still wandering around #CaffeFlorian tables...
Enjoy pictures of San Marco in the Chat RoomπŸ‘‡... and of course I would love to see some of your pictures tooπŸ˜ƒ

🎭 Carnevale di Venezia, the oldest Carnival celebration in the world, starts this weekend!

Some brief facts for you:
- Carnival comes from the Italian word Carnevale and it's the religious period in Christianity which starts after Epiphany and lasts until Ash Wednesday, when Lent (in Italian Quaresima) begins. During Carnevale nutritional "excesses" were allowed and everyone could eat meat (Carne in Italian) and drink wine, as opposed to the Quaresima period (40 days before Easter) which had nutritional restrictions and fasting rules.
- #Carnevale as a folk celebration started in Venice in Medieval times (some historians say in 1162) to celebrate the city's war victories.
- Carnevale became an official celebration in Venice during the #Renaissance, making it a unique symbol and a pride of the city: wearing masks was not allowed anywhere in the world for centuries, even during Carnival time. Only Venice allowed and encouraged masks, as all kinds of licences and pleasures with no social class distinctions. That's why Venice Carnival became so popular and a huge attraction for all other countries.
- #VeniceCarnival was abolished and outlawed by the Austrians when they occupied the city in 1798 and the tradition got lost as years went by.
- After a long absence Venice Carnival returned only in 1979.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ¨31 May 1594. Jacopo Robusti, worldwide known as Tintoretto, passes away in Venice.
One of the most prominent painters of Venice #Renaissance, #Tintoretto was famous for his phenomenal energy in painting which gained him the nickname Il Furioso ("The Furious"). His works are characterised by muscular figures, dramatic gestures and bold use of perspective: his paintings and portraits are held in all most important museums around the world!

In Venice his paintings and frescoes are in the main Palaces, Churches and Museums (Accademia Galleries, La Salute, San Polo, San Cassiano, Ca D'Oro) but 2 places more than others show Tintoretto's fantastic work:

πŸ“Έ The stunning Church of Madonna Dell'Orto in Cannaregio where Tintoretto is buried (it's also part of my favorite #WalkingTour !)
πŸ“Έ The breathtaking Scuola Grande di San Rocco in San Polo, considered the "Sistine Chapel of Venice", entirely decorated by Tintoretto, like #Michelangelo did for the Cappella Sistina in #Rome.

πŸ—Ύ Few know and visit the island of Sant'Erasmo.
It's the 2nd biggest island in the Lagoon, it's between Venice and #Burano (see in the map bordered in red☝️) and it's totally devoted to farming and fruits and vegetable growing.
