🎼20 March 1976. Chester Bennington, founder, leader, singer and songwriter of Linkin Park was born in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. He would be 45 today but on July 20, 2017 something went wrong in his mind 🤷♂️. "I can't imagine a world without you in it" he said only 2 months before, about his friend #ChrisCornell death, and he took his own life the day on what would have been Chris' 53rd birthday.
I have to say I never liked #LinkinPark so much (I totally loved #Soundgarden instead), but they were such a "big thing" in early 2000's, that I went to their concert here in Venice San Giuliano Park in Summer 2008 and I really enjoyed it a lot 🤟👍 #ChesterBennington was undoubtedly a huge talented #vocalist!
Here's a rare video of him and Mike Shinoda in Venice early that day... if you watch it all, at some point you can see Chester not being very lucky in his pizza choice in town 🙈... unfortunately at the time I wasn't around with my Local Food Tours for Rockers 😊😉

According to the Catholic calendar today is San Martino of Tours, a Medieval knight who became Saint after donating his coat to a poor freezing man: it was November and miraculously it stopped raining and the sun shone ☀️. That's why they call it St. Martin's Summer (it's like the Indian Summer) and usually these days of November are sunny and warm 🌞
In Venice, #SanMartino day is celebrated with the traditional chocolate sweet which lies on every Venetian table☝️😋 and with children running around town, beating their pots, chanting an ancient San Martino rhyme and asking for sweets in the shops... similar to #Halloween, less scary and with deeper roots!
📸☝️In the pictures the Medieval San Martino Church in Venice #Castello (probably founded by Longobards from Ravenna town, that's why a French Saint became so popular here!) and San Martino's engraving on its façade, reproduced in the local sweet!

📌🥬 May traditionally starts Summer events in Venice.
This is a very local one☝️, totally unknown to tourists!
It takes place in the island of #SantErasmo on the second Sunday of May and celebrates the harvest of the Violet Artichoke ("Carciofo Violetto"), a special perennial herbaceous plant that grows only here in the #Lagoon.
You can only eat this Artichoke here in Venice in various ways (raw, garnished, fried), its early bud is called "castraura" and it's much sought after around town in this season. Delicious 😋

🎭 🥧 Martedì Grasso, last day of #VeniceCarnival and last chance to enjoy Frittelle Veneziane, my favorite traditional Carnival sweet here 😋
The local pastry shops, like this 100 years old one, stop Frittelle production today, so if you find them around the city tomorrow and after Carnival, it means they are not real and handmade, the shop is not a local one, probably a tourist trap instead, and it should be fined for spoiling traditions 😈
