🎛 A neat way to add a reset button to Raspberry Pi Pico

The Raspberry Pi Pico is a nice little board, but if you program in C language, you’d need to disconnect the micro USB cable each time you’d like to flash the UF2 firmware. That’s not convenient and could damage your board over time. The Raspberry Pi Foundation even decided to write a blog post explaining how to add a reset button to your Raspberry Pi Pico using a breadboard circuit.

🎚 Software Defined Radio (SDR) on Low Cost Raspberry Pi Pico

In the latest project to grab our attention, we see Luigi Cruz, a computer student and amateur radio enthusiast, use the Pico as a software defined radio (SDR) interface for the popular GNR Radio application.

Cruz's SDR project, PicoSDR, uses one of the analog input pins to sample 8 bit data at 500ksps. Cruz has connected the Pico's analog input to the output of his soundcard and uses an online tool to generate tones that are visible on his computer. To connect the Pico to the computer, Cruz explains, "The data is sent via USB using the RNDIS protocol to emulate a TCP/IP interface. The ADC speed is limited to 500 ksps. The data can be used with software like the GNU Radio with a custom block." This provides a low-bandwidth means to get data from the Pico and into applications such as GNU Radio.

🎚 Adafruit Feather RP2040

The Raspberry Pi Pico was the first microcontroller to feature Raspberry Pi’s RP2040 SoC, but a number of vendors are releasing their own third-party boards with added features. The latest and, so far, best is Adafruit’s Feather RP2040, which combines the popular Feather ecosystem and form factor with Raspberry Pi silicon.

Specifications:
▫️ RP2040 microcontroller chip designed by Raspberry Pi
▫️ Dual-core Arm Cortex M0+ processor, flexible clock running up to 133 MHz
▫️ 264KB of SRAM, and 8MB of on-board Flash memory

📰 A Designer’s Take on Raspberry Pi’s First Microcontroller

This year, Rasberry Pi unveiled its first-ever microcontroller. How does this device perform in professional embedded design?

One
of the biggest splashes in the electronics industry this year was Raspberry Pi's unveiling of its first-ever microcontroller. The Raspberry Pi Pico is a $4 microcontroller board built using the RP2040 microcontroller, which includes a dual-Arm Cortex-M0+ processor and an interesting patent-pending programmable I/O peripheral.

This new RP2040 chip is said to be suited for ultra-low-power Internet of Things (IoT) and embedded applications that incorporate endpoint machine learning. The applications of the new SoC can range from standalone toys to networked IoT devices monitoring industrial oil pipelines.

How is the new MCU fundamentally distinct from RPi's traditional single-board computers? And how might it be of use to the practicing engineers?

📟 How To Get Wi-Fi (Internet) on Raspberry Pi Pico

We created this tutorial that shows how to get your Raspberry Pi Pico online.

To get Wi-Fi on Raspberry Pi Pico, you will need:
▫️ A Raspberry Pi Pico
▫️ Adafruit Airlift Wi-Fi Featherwing Co-Processor
▫️ 8 x Male to Male jumper wires
▫️ Breadboard

The goal of this tutorial is to get our Raspberry Pi Pico connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi, to access the OpenWeather service API and get the weather for our chosen location.

This raw data is sent to the Python shell, but it could be easily sent to an OLED screen, LCD or used to trigger a sequence of events to occur.
