AMD Shares Surge After High-Profile Deal With Meta Platforms

Yesterday, it was reported that Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has expanded its collaboration with Meta Platforms. The companies struck an agreement under which:
→ Meta will purchase AMD equipment with a total capacity of 6 gigawatts for its AI infrastructure. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
→ AMD’s portfolio could include around 160 million META shares, representing roughly 10% of the company.

The market interpreted the news as a signal that AMD is successfully establishing itself as the second major chip supplier to tech giants, challenging Nvidia’s monopoly (incidentally, the market leader is due to release its quarterly report today).

Following yesterday’s trading, AMD shares jumped more than 8%, closing near the highs on rising volume—a bullish sign. This partially offset the decline seen after the early-February earnings report, which was influenced by falling margins, supply chain issues, concerns over deliveries to China, and other factors.

Technical Analysis of AMD Shares

Analysis of AMD’s chart indicates that the ascending channel (shown in blue), which guided price growth throughout 2025, is losing relevance.

Currently, AMD’s shares are trapped between two gaps:
→ Support is provided by the bullish gap from 6 October, which includes the psychological $200 level, offering additional support for buyers.
→ Resistance comes from the bearish gap of 4 February, which aligns with the median of the descending channel (shown in red).

It is reasonable to suggest that yesterday’s positive news offset the earlier negative sentiment, and in the short term, AMD shares may stabilise between the areas of the identified gaps.

USD/JPY Pulls Back After a Period of Gains

As the USD/JPY chart shows, the pair posted solid bullish momentum in the second half of February. This move was driven by a combination of fundamental factors, including:
→ The appointment of two academics to the central bank’s board, both regarded as strong advocates of economic stimulus through a weaker yen and accommodative lending conditions.
→ Concerns over further interest rate hikes, voiced by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during a meeting with Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda.
Expectations of a softer yen led to renewed weakness in the currency (A→B), forming the upward trajectory highlighted in purple.

However, on Wednesday the pair retreated, which appears to be an interim pullback from point B. Technical analysis of the USD/JPY chart suggests that extending the move along the purple trajectory may prove challenging.

Factors that could favour the bears include:
→ The median line of the ascending channel (constructed from key reversal points marked by thicker lines). The median often acts as a balance zone where supply and demand converge and trends lose momentum.
→ The proximity of the significant 157.70 resistance level, which already acted as resistance in 2025. Although price broke above it in January 2026 (with the level briefly showing signs of support), following the sharp sell-off on 23 January it once again served as a barrier for bulls on 9 February.
→ Trend line R, drawn through the lower highs of 2026.

Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the lower purple boundary may be breached by bears, potentially leading the market into a period of consolidation while awaiting fresh economic and political catalysts.

Nvidia (NVDA) Shares Surpass $200 in After-Hours Trading Following Earnings Report

Yesterday, the world’s most valuable company, Nvidia, released its quarterly earnings, which exceeded expectations:
→ Earnings per share: actual = $1.62 (forecast = $1.53);
→ Revenue: actual = $68.13 billion (forecast = $66.13 billion).

Sentiment was further supported by the chipmaker’s guidance for first-quarter revenue above market estimates, reflecting continued heavy spending by major technology companies on artificial intelligence processors.

As the Nvidia (NVDA) share price chart shows, the stock rose above the psychological $200 level in after-hours trading, but subsequently pulled back, which may point to excessive optimism and aggressive selling pressure.

Technical Analysis of the Nvidia (NVDA) Chart

On 10 February, when analysing NVDA price movements, we:
→ reaffirmed the validity of the long-term ascending channel (which remains intact) and highlighted the importance of the $192.50 resistance level;
→ suggested that the initiative was on the side of the bulls, who were aiming to resume the long-term uptrend towards the psychological $200 mark.

Since then:
→ NVDA formed a pullback from the указанного resistance level towards the 50–61.8% Fibonacci retracement zone;
→ on 17 February, it resumed its advance, supported by a short-term ascending channel (marked in black), ultimately reaching $200.

Overall, the picture appears constructive, and the next potential target for NVDA may be the median line of the long-term channel. However, it is worth recalling the recent experience of other technology giants whose shares rallied briefly after earnings before turning lower (for example, Meta). The sharp reversal from above the $200 mark lends weight to this scenario.

Therefore, if bulls are to confirm control over NVDA shares, it is important for the price to hold above the $192.50 level.

Australian Stock Index ASX 200 Reaches Record High

As the chart of the ASX 200 index (Australia 200 on FXOpen) shows, today’s candle has moved above the 9,210 level, marking a fresh all-time high. Since the start of the year, the benchmark of Australian equities has gained more than 5.6%, supported by:
→ A strong earnings season. A significant number of companies not only exceeded analysts’ expectations but also upgraded their profit forecasts for the 2026 financial year.
→ Economic resilience. The unemployment rate remains low despite the Reserve Bank of Australia maintaining a firm policy stance.
→ Elevated prices for gold, uranium and copper, along with signs of a recovery in China’s economy, which have provided support to the mining sector.

Technical Analysis of the ASX 200 Chart (Australia 200 on FXOpen)

Price action continues to unfold within an ascending channel (highlighted in blue) that has been in place since autumn 2025. Within this structure:
→ The median line acted as support on 24 February, signalling underlying strength.
→ The upper boundary has repeatedly served as resistance during 2026.

It is worth noting that:
→ The psychological 9,100 level had previously capped gains within the channel.
→ The index has now climbed above 9,200 near the upper boundary of the blue channel.
→ The RSI indicator is approaching overbought territory.

Given these factors, it is reasonable to assume that some long-position holders may look to take profits, potentially leading to a pause in bullish momentum. As a result, the following scenario cannot be ruled out:
→ Failure to secure a sustained move above 9,200;
→ The development of a corrective pullback in the ASX 200 (Australia 200 on FXOpen).

In such a case, support may emerge near the lower orange trend line, which reflects the upward trajectory seen during the second half of the month.

WTI Oil Pulls Back from Its 2026 High

As the XTI/USD chart shows, the price of a barrel:
→ set fresh 2026 highs above $67 earlier this week;
→ but yesterday posted a sharp reversal lower (as indicated by the blue arrow).

The spike in volatility was driven by conflicting reports from Geneva, where talks between the United States and Iran were taking place:
→ some sources suggested negotiations had reached an impasse, as Washington insists on a complete halt to uranium enrichment;
→ meanwhile, according to Omani mediators, progress has been made and another round of talks is scheduled for next week.

Technical Analysis of the XTI/USD Chart

When analysing the oil price chart on the morning of 19 February, we suggested that:
→ the market could soon set a new high for the year (which materialised, with a series of highs formed between 19 and 23 February);
→ the 65.20 level would act as support (confirmed on 23 February).

Today’s chart indicates growing bearish pressure, reflected in the following:
→ WTI struggled to hold above its yearly highs, forming signs of potential bull traps;
→ yesterday’s candle (marked with a red arrow) shows a pronounced upper wick.

At the same time, bulls clearly defended the former resistance level at $63.73. The lower boundary of the ascending trajectory that has defined WTI price movements in 2026 also supports the bullish case.

It is worth noting that an OPEC+ meeting is scheduled for the weekend. According to media reports, analysts expect an increase in output from April, which could heighten concerns about oversupply — particularly after US crude inventories rose on Wednesday. As a result, Monday’s trading may open with elevated volatility.

Geopolitical Shock: Gold Price Storms $5,400 After Attack on Iran

As the XAU/USD chart shows, gold opened Monday’s session with strong bullish momentum. The reason is clear: confirmed US and Israeli strikes on targets in Iran, including reports of the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, have triggered renewed demand for safe-haven assets, pushing gold prices higher.

As of Monday morning, news of further escalation continues to emerge, while the price per ounce has climbed above the $5,400 level — for the first time since late January. Analysts (including J.P. Morgan and Bank of America) are already revising their targets. In their view, if the price consolidates above $5,400, this could point to a move towards $6,000 by the end of 2026.

Technical Analysis of the XAU/USD Chart

On 23 February, when analysing gold price movements, we confirmed that the long-term ascending channel remained in force and suggested that:
→ bulls would attempt to reach the median of the channel;
→ if gold were to pull back, the $5,100 level would act as support.

Indeed, both assumptions materialised. As indicated by the arrows:
→ on 24 February, the price rebounded from the stated support level;
→ this morning, the price reached the median. At the first test, bears showed aggression, but extraordinary geopolitical risks pushed the quotation into the upper half of the channel.

It is worth noting that the price has left behind:
→ the psychological $5,300 mark;
→ the $5,250 level, which acted as resistance in February (and may now be expected to provide support).

At the same time, nearby resistance is formed by a local ascending channel (shown in purple), constructed using February’s price extremes on the XAU/USD chart.

It cannot be ruled out that, following the shocking news over the weekend, market emotions may subside, leading to a pullback in gold prices. In that case, support may emerge in the $5,250–5,300 area, where the lower boundary of the purple uptrend line is located.

WTI Oil Trading Opens with a 10% Bullish Gap

On Friday, we warned that trading on Monday could be volatile — but not to this extent! The situation sharply escalated over the weekend following a large-scale strike by Israel and the US on targets in Iran, during which the supreme leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles and drones at Israel, Saudi Arabia, and other targets.

Although financial markets had priced in some escalation risks, they reacted very sensitively:
→ Gold (XAU/USD): the price surged above $5,400 per ounce.
→ US Dollar Index (DXY): the US currency strengthened, not only as a safe-haven asset but also amid expectations of a new wave of global inflation driven by higher fuel costs.
→ Equity indices: opened sharply lower. Airlines and the tech sector were hit hardest, while defence stocks rose against the broader market.
→ Oil: showed the most aggressive reaction, with WTI opening at a bullish gap of roughly 10% compared with Friday’s close.

Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz (through which around 20% of global oil supply passes) is effectively paralysed following attacks on tankers. As shown on the XTI/USD chart, barrel prices are fluctuating widely as traders attempt to determine a fair value under these extraordinary circumstances.

Technical Analysis of XTI/USD

Three days ago, we drew an ascending channel on the oil price chart, which has held up:
→ its upper boundary acted as resistance at Monday’s open;
→ its median pushed the price upwards.

Bearish perspective:
→ following the bullish gap, prices failed to continue higher and fell sharply;
→ the round level of $73 acted as resistance.

Bullish perspective:
→ the channel median previously acted as resistance but now serves as support;
→ the psychological level of $70 favours buyers.

It is reasonable to expect WTI oil to remain volatile within a broad $70–73 range, with price impulses largely driven by political statements regarding escalation in the Middle East.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) Climbs to a One-and-a-Half-Month High

Today, the US Dollar Index rose above the 98.70 level for the first time since the third week of January. Monday’s trading opened with a bullish gap, and upward momentum continues to build as news emerges of a major escalation in the Middle East:
→ Demand for safe-haven assets: Historically, the US dollar and US Treasury bonds have served as primary refuges for capital during periods of heightened uncertainty.
→ Military activity around the Strait of Hormuz is pushing oil prices higher (WTI jumped by approximately 10% yesterday) along with gas prices. This creates a direct pathway to another wave of global inflation.

Technical Analysis of the DXY Chart

Six days ago, when analysing the US Dollar Index (DXY) chart, we:
→ Reaffirmed the validity of the descending channel (marked in red), which originated in November 2025.
→ Once again highlighted the strength of demand, reflected in the confident upward trajectory (shown by the arrow) following the false break below the multi-month low of 96.50 at the end of January.
→ Suggested that bulls could regain momentum and break the prevailing downtrend.

Indeed, price action in early March confirms this view: the descending channel is losing relevance, being replaced by an upward trajectory marked in blue. In this context, developments in the Middle East are of critical importance:
→ If tensions begin to ease, the DXY may stabilise around the median line of the blue ascending channel.
→ A renewed escalation and the collapse of potential negotiations could trigger a further advance towards the upper boundary of the blue channel.

It is also worth noting that the area around the 98 level may now serve as support:
→ This zone previously saw rapid price appreciation, signalling strong buying pressure.
→ It was also the point of a bullish breakout from the red channel and above the 97.98 resistance level.

⚡️ Iran Conflict and Economic Data: Events in Focus for 2-6 March

Let’s discuss three upcoming events that may impact market activity across currencies, equities, and commodities.

🔸 Washington and Israel struck Iran, the supreme leader of Iran Ayatollah Khamenei was killed. Iran retaliated, escalating tensions.
Oil jumped over 8%, global stocks fell, and so-called safe-haven assets rose. A Strait of Hormuz disruption could push oil sharply higher and increase recession risks.

🔸 The US Nonfarm Payrolls and Unemployment Rate will arrive on 6 March.
January’s strong jobs data pushed rate-cut expectations further out and caused a mixed market reaction. This week’s report could drive sharp moves in major USD pairs and US stock indices.

🔸 The ISM Manufacturing PMI and ISM Services PMI will be released on 2 March and 4 March, respectively.
Following the first expansion signal in US manufacturing activity in twelve months — and the strongest improvement since 2022 — the upcoming ISM Manufacturing PMI release may become an early-week catalyst for US dollar positioning.

January’s ISM Services PMI confirmed resilience in the dominant sector of the US economy, and another strong reading would reinforce expectations that Federal Reserve policy will remain restrictive for longer, underpinning the USD.

Traders should stay alert — disciplined risk management will be key in the days ahead.

Natural Gas Prices Rise Amid Middle East Conflict

The recent strike by Israel and the US, along with Iran’s retaliatory actions, has pushed energy asset prices higher. Yesterday, we reported on a bullish gap in oil markets, and while US natural gas prices have not surged as sharply, they are also on the rise. Traders’ attention is focused on news from the Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20% of global liquefied gas shipments pass.

Today’s XNG/USD chart reflects the increase in natural gas prices – driven by concerns over potential disruptions to supply chains.

Technical Analysis of XNG/USD

The long-term descending channel, repeatedly referenced in previous analyses, remains relevant – its median acted as resistance on 6 February.

A notable event occurred on 9 February, when a bearish gap formed on the XNG/USD chart (around the 3.200 level). This area acted as resistance on 12 February.

From a bullish perspective:
→ The market finds support near the 2025 low, likely an economically justified support level close to production costs.
→ The reversal on 26 February resembles a Rounding Bottom pattern.

Currently, US natural gas prices are trading near 1.133, where local February highs formed. However, if escalation in the Middle East continues, XNG/USD may rise toward the noted resistance around 3.200.

Alibaba (BABA) Shares Drop Approximately 10% Over the Week

Last Wednesday, the closing price of Alibaba (BABA) shares was $152.28, while the closing price yesterday was $135.59, marking a 2026 low.

The roughly 10% decline was driven by a combination of bearish factors, including:
→ Unexpected resignation of Lin Junyang (Justin Lin) – Lin led Alibaba’s AI project Qwen, a key LLM platform. According to Reuters, this is the third notable departure from Qwen in 2026, and Lin has not provided a reason.
→ Overall bearish trend in tech stocks – High capital expenditures combined with uncertainty over profitability have weighed on the sector. Alibaba previously committed at least CNY 380 billion (around $52 billion) for AI and cloud infrastructure investments over three years.
→ Pressure from US regulators – Reports indicate that Alibaba was added to a list of companies cooperating with China’s military, potentially complicating business. Although the listing was later removed from the US Federal Register, the attempt itself increases the risk of new sanctions from the administration.
→ Geopolitical tensions – With the threat of the Middle East conflict escalating into a wider war, financial markets see increased demand for safe-haven assets. Chinese tech companies are particularly exposed to these pressures.

Despite these challenges, technical analysis offers hope for the bulls.

Technical Analysis of Alibaba (BABA) Shares

Take a look at the most recent BABA candlestick – the closing price is well above the low, while trading volume has surged to the highest level since late January. This can be interpreted as a sign of demand preventing further price declines.

Looking at history confirms this observation. In late August, BABA shares broke through the descending trendline and, on extremely high volumes, began a run towards multi-month highs.

At that time, demand clearly dominated – bulls may gain confidence near the $130 mark and prevent a deeper drop in the stock.

The Price of Silver Is Recovering After a Two-Day Decline

As can be seen on the XAG/USD chart, the price of silver is recovering after forming yesterday’s low below the $79 level. The price per ounce has already exceeded $86 today (+10% in less than 24 hours!).

Volatility in the silver market is being driven by fluctuations in the US dollar, as well as military action in the Middle East, which is fuelling concerns about a prolonged regional conflict. According to media reports:
→ Yesterday, Israel carried out a strike on a building where religious figures had gathered to elect a new Supreme Leader.
→ Following the death of Ali Khamenei, he was succeeded by his son Mojtaba Khamenei. Although some sources consider him the leading candidate (no official statements have yet been made), this has raised concerns that the new Iranian leadership may continue existing policies — increasing uncertainty over the outcome of the conflict.

On 20 February, when analysing the XAG/USD chart, we:
→ highlighted the importance of the $95 resistance level;
→ suggested that the price of silver could consolidate above the breakout level of the descending channel around $79 (shown in red), reinforced by the psychological $80 mark.

Indeed, our assumptions were reflected in the formation of a zigzag pattern, with a bearish reversal at the A peak and a bullish reversal at yesterday’s low B. Notably, these and other key extremes make it possible to outline the contours of an upward trajectory (shown in blue).

It is quite possible that the upward movement observed this morning will continue during the US trading session, allowing XAG/USD to reach the blue median line. Price action at that point may provide important clues — if the median does not show signs of resistance, this may be interpreted as an indication of further upside potential.

EUR/USD Chart Analysis: Pair Trades Near Yearly Lows

On 3 March, the EUR/USD pair fell below the January low (around 1.15777), establishing the lowest level of the year. As of today, 5 March, the chart shows signs of a continuation of bearish momentum.

On one hand, demand for the USD as a “safe-haven currency” remains elevated amid the ongoing military conflict in the Middle East.

On the other hand, the euro is under pressure because:
→ rising energy prices put the European Union at a disadvantage;
→ traders may be cautious ahead of today’s ECB news (Lagarde’s speech is scheduled for 20:00 GMT+3).

Technical Analysis of the EUR/USD Chart

On 19 February, we:
→ noted that bears held a certain advantage during February;
→ highlighted lower highs and lower lows at points A-B-C;
→ suggested a potential bearish scenario.

Since then, the downward movement has developed into a sequence A-B-C-D-E-F. Analysing the key patterns on the EUR/USD chart now allows us to construct a descending channel.

In this context, yesterday’s bearish reversal (indicated by the arrow) is noteworthy, as it occurred:
→ in the 0.382–0.5 Fibonacci zone, indicating a weak recovery;
→ below the channel median, which acted as resistance.

Considering the above, it is reasonable to state that bears remain in control. Forex traders should not rule out further declines in EUR/USD towards a new yearly low (and a test of the lower boundary of the channel).

However, the long lower shadow at point F suggests aggressive demand around the psychological level of 1.15000, and market sensitivity to Middle East news could rapidly change sentiment.
