A pilot maneuvering a tanker too close to a bank before a turn on the Cooper River led to the collapse of a 300-foot section of pier at Joint Base Charleston’s Naval Weapons Station in South Carolina, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said Tuesday.The 600-foot Bow Triumph struck Naval Weapons Station Pier B while transiting the Joint Base Charleston Channel on Sept. 5, 2022. A Charleston Branch Pilots Association pilot was navigating the vessel, which sustained significant damage to the bow. The contact resulted in $29.5 million in damage. Cargo Pump Shutdown Linked to Vibration Fatigue. An incident involving an uncoordinated emergency shutdown during tanker cargo operations was reported and analyzed by IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association).
During cargo discharging at a terminal, all cargo pumps tripped simultaneously when the Emergency Shutdown (ESD) system was activated. A duty crewmember, while on a routine pump room patrol, noticed a minor leak and immediately triggered the ESD without first coordinating with the Cargo Control Room (CCR). This caused an unexpected halt to operations. The leak was later assessed as non-critical, no injuries occurred, and operations

Benzene Vapour Fatality Following Tank Entry. In their latest BSAFE case study, Britannia P&I Club reviewed a benzene vapour fatality aboard, following an unauthorised cargo tank entry. On 20 January 2024, while a ship was underway after discharging benzene, a cremember entered a cargo tank before enclosed-space entry procedures had been authorised and before confirming the atmosphere was safe. he was later found collapsed at the bottom of
the tank and, despite rescue efforts, did not survive. Marlink раскрыла редкий и крайне показательный maritime cyber incident: ещё в конце 2025 года компания обнаружила и локализовала early-stage cyber threat непосредственно в сети управления грузовыми операциями танкера.
⚠️ Речь идёт уже не об офисном IT или фишинге экипажа, а о Operational Technology (OT) — системах, связанных с физическими процессами на судне. Marlink указывает, что своевременное обнаружение помогло предотвратить потенциальный operational disruption и экологический риск.
🛡 Ключевым элементом стала пассивная OT-мониторинговая архитектура: система определяет подключённые assets, анализирует их взаимодействие и выявляет необычную активность, не вмешиваясь активно в работу критических систем. Далее применяются механизмы containment, 24/7 security monitoring и поддержка SOC.
🔌 Marlink отдельно предупреждает: по мере объединения IT и OT новые риски создают remote access и removable media, поскольку они открывают доступ к оборудованию, которое изначально проектировалось как изолированное.
⚙️ Новый OT Security stack ориентирован на судовые navigation, propulsion и cargo handling systems и учитывает требования IACS UR E26, IACS UR E27 и ISA/IEC 62443.
❗️ Самая интригующая часть пока скрыта: Marlink не раскрыла название танкера, тип malware, IOC, initial access vector или конкретную cargo-control system. Поэтому говорить о ransomware, PLC compromise или targeted attack пока нельзя.
⚓️ Но сам факт важен: подтверждённая cyber threat была выявлена уже внутри критической судовой OT-сети.
