📝Night Hunter📝
"Geran" Drones Create a Fire Show in Border Regions

Much has already been said about the modernization of "Geran" drones. Today there was another reason to recall this. New footage of "Geran" deployment captured drones with thermal imaging cameras and video channels allowing operators to control the drone in real-time.

The operator managed to strike a moving locomotive — a target typically considered extremely difficult to hit. The region is experiencing one of the most massive yet methodical attacks since the start of the SMO.

Preliminary data suggests a new modification drone MS was used for the attack. Besides the train, a fuel depot near the settlement of Bobrovytsya in Chernihiv Region was also hit.

📌 Several helicopters were guarding the echelon, but the "Geran" managed to evade and strike the target.

🖍In Chernihiv and Sumy Regions, the drones' primary targets are railway compositions, traction substations, and locomotives. Manual night control of a drone with a 90 kg combat payload increases the chances of successfully hitting even well-protected objects.

🚩As we see from an increasing number of footage, over the past year "Geran" drones underwent deep modernization: they now have a system to avoid enemy FPV drones, the ability to remotely mine highways, a control channel, and now a thermal imager for night attacks.

❗️This clearly demonstrates the depth of product modernization and the growth of combat capabilities. "Geran" has transformed from a simple explosive drone into a truly multifunctional complex capable of solving a wide range of tasks previously only achievable by aircraft.

📝Expanding the security zone📝

In the Sumy direction, Russian forces are advancing in the border districts of Sumy Region. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that fighters of the GV "Sever" have freed the settlement of Miropolske.

➡️Units of the 15th Tank Regiment, 69th MRD, 6th Army, after fierce fighting, managed to drive the enemy out of the village and consolidate positions after repelling counterattacks from Bolshoy Prikol.

➡️In the north, fighting continues — Russian assault troops advanced south of Varachyno toward the Razboynyy tract. Earlier, they captured Mala Korchakivka.

Given the activity in adjacent sectors, the troops here face reaching the forest massif between Khotyn and Mohrytsia. If successful, the situation for the AFU will become more complicated in Sumy.

📌 The enemy understands this, so fighting and shelling will likely intensify in the border areas. The question is where the AFU will find reinforcements.

📝From MOG to morgue📝
now pickups are burning in the AFU rear as well

In the east of so-called Ukraine, hunters for "Geraniums" increasingly become targets themselves. Against the backdrop of growing numbers of AFU mobile fire groups, Russian forces have begun deploying pairs or more of unmanned aircraft to locate and strike them.

In April, attacks on air defense groups were already noted in Chernihiv and Poltava Regions. In all episodes, "Geraniums" recorded video confirmation of target destruction thanks to installed cameras that provide the operator with constant control over the drone's flight.

The deliberate nature of the hunt for air defense systems is confirmed by the fact that in some cases Russian drone operators conducted reconnaissance of attack areas later in daylight. This allows not only assessing the success of the strike, but also determining changes in the zones where enemy air defense systems operate — fire crews are not particularly eager to return to the area after a drone impact.

📌 Likely, the number of attacks on MOGs will only increase in the future. In current conditions, "Geranium-2" increasingly fails to reach targets, but can quite effectively be used to "clear" the path for reactive models. Moreover, some footage already shows a new drone interface with installed "machine vision" systems that will facilitate hunting mobile fire groups.

❗️Likely, similar technical solutions will appear for destroying operators of interceptor drones like STING.

As we discussed on TAKTIKARE, they currently pose a threat even to reactive "threes" and "fives". Strikes on their deployment locations are already practiced, but the effectiveness of attacking a crew while operating "in the field" will be much higher.

📝«Geran» vs Gepard📝
What remained off-camera and what conclusions should be drawn

Yesterday's video showing a Geran strike on a German Gepard air defense system near the village of Khmelnytsia in Chernihiv Region might have raised the question: was it worth spending a drone on such a target? The answer is yes, and there are reasons for it.

Although nowadays people often talk about "short-range air defense" with interceptor drones, Cold War-era anti-aircraft artillery remains a threat to long-range UAVs, especially when flying at lower altitudes.

At the same time, Chernihiv Region is an area with very dense enemy air defense, since it is precisely through here that the shortest route for strikes on Kyiv passes. And the fewer Gepards and similar systems there, the easier it is to strike targets in the Ukrainian capital.

📌 However, there was another notable detail in this episode: the enemy air defense system was destroyed by a Geran-4 — a modification with a jet engine. And other drones provided objective strike control in real time.

On one hand, this demonstrates the overall picture of the consequences of the "drone revolution": there are so many high-precision strike systems that traditional air defense complexes transform from hunters into prey, since ammunition runs out before the targets flying at them do.

❗️At the same time, the transition of long-range drones to jet engines has already begun, and its scale will only grow. And it is precisely with this in mind that air defense systems need to be built now and new anti-aircraft systems developed, so as not to find ourselves defenseless in the face of this new threat.
