SS Lazio v FC Bayern München: Round of 16 First Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by Matteo Ciambelli/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Could the striker move on from Bayern Munich? According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel might be reconsidering his future with the club. Long thought to be dedicated to the Bavarians, Tel has become wary of his recent cut in playing time and might want to explore other options. As such, Manchester United has reportedly made contact regarding a potential move this summer (though, it is unclear whether the Red Devils contact Tel’s representatives or Bayern Munich’s front office): Excl. News #Tel: Manchester United have made contact for the first time and are very interested to sign him in summer! #MUFC➡️ Two more clubs from have also inquired about him in the last weeks. ⚠️ Been told: Even though it’s not easy for him right now, he still doesn’t want to give up as he wants to become a legend for Bayern. But: If he doesn’t receive the feeling, that Bayern believe in him in the future, he will consider his options - but a loan is not one of them. Fussball.News journalist Christopher Michel (formerly of Sport1), provided additional context: The Frenchman cannot be happy with this situation. The left winger often brought a breath of fresh air to sometimes deadlocked games, especially in the first half of the season, and his carefree attitude could help. But Thomas Tuchel only sees him as a substitute. But he doesn’t let it show.According to fussball.news, a lot depends on the future of the coach, among other things. Will Thomas Tuchel remain in charge at Munich beyond the summer? Or will a new man arrive for the 2024/25 season? And if so, what role could Tel play for him? Michel went on to write that Tel could be considering a move for this summer and will not — in his current line of thinking — consider inking an extension: It can therefore not be ruled out that the U-21 international is aiming for a departure. Munich must be careful not to lose him. Whether it is a sale or a loan with an option to buy is still up in the air and completely open. Much also depends on the course of the coming weeks. In any case, FC Bayern want to work with Tel in the long term and would have liked to extend his contract, which expires in 2027, once again. That is currently out of the question for Tel. He will assess the situation after the season. It cannot be ruled out that the summer transfer window will see a move for Tel.Finally, Sky Sport is reporting that Bayern Munich wants to bring in a new striker to replace Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, which could also affect Tel’s decision on whether or not he sees any chance for playing time in the immediate future: Bayern want to sign a new striker in the summer to replace Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as the Cameroonian is likely to leave the club when his contract expires. Therefore, the competitive situation would remain big for Mathys Tel. One report states that Tel will not consider a loan, while the other notes that he could be open to such an arrangement. Whatever the case, Tel will have a lot of thinking to do as the summer approaches. Looking for thoughts and analysis on potential moves for Bayern Munich this summer? VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images Bayern munich will take on Mainz 05 in the DFB-Pokal... According to a report from Sky Sport journalists Kerry Hau and Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich could be kicking around the idea of sending Mathys Tel away on a loan assignment. Tel, who has become an afterthought under new coach Vincent Kompany, has no goals and no assists in six games across all competitions — and has only tallied 179 minutes of field time. After a surge last season as a super-sub under Thomas Tuchel, Tel has just become lost in the shuffle within an attacking group that includes Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané, and Thomas Müller, who all appear to be ahead of him at the moment: Under certain conditions, FC Bayern may consider a loan for Mathys #Tel in winter to provide him with regular playing time ✔️However, a final decision has not yet been made. The 19y/o forward currently has no plans to go out on loan, as he still intends to establish himself.Simply put, Tel is not getting enough of a chance to develop this season and while there is something to be said for being in Bayern Munich’s day-to-day training environment, Tel needs far more game time than he is currently getting. Interestingly, Tel is drawing a lot of interest from Werder Bremen: Several Bundesliga clubs, including Werder Bremen, have shown interest and have repeatedly inquired over the past months. To an outside observer, Tel does not look as confident and seems to be “pressing” a bit when he does get his chance to play. At just 19-years-old, Tel is far from a finished product, but to get to that point, Tel just needs more opportunities. Right now, a loan move would probably give Tel a fresh start to the season. January is not that far away and Tel still could salvage something from this season. Let’s get right down to business and talk about the squads as they head into the match: Bayern Munich is seeking to continue build momentum, but will the squad start to earn a reputation for beating up on weaker teams. A look how each team fared in the previous round and the recent form of each squad.A look at the rosters and injuries for Mainz 05 and the Bayern Munich.A guess at Bayern Munich’s starting XI.A prediction on the match.PredictionsBayern Munich got back on the right track (as it should have) against VfL Bochum last weekend, but Mainz 05 presents a tougher challenge. While not exactly a juggernaut, Mainz has been a pest this season in the Bundesliga earning draws with VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach, while also taking down FC Augsburg. At a minimum, it should not be one-way traffic for the Bavarians, but while Bayern Munich is a heavy favorite, Mainz 05 will show some fight and keep it (somewhat) respectable.…

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Could the Premier League upstarts swoop in and borrow a big talent currently not featuring at a richer club? Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel is struggling for minutes this season under Vincent Kompany, and that has not gone unnoticed around clubs in Europe hungry to add a dynamic attacker to their ranks.Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on Monday that Premier League side Nottingham Forest, as well as Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, are monitoring Tel’s situation in Bavaria: Excl | #Forest are interested in FC Bayern’s Mathys #Tel and have already made contact ✔️However, the 19y/o winger currently still has no plans to leave Bayern on loan this winter. #Werder Bremen also have him on their radar, should Tel change his mind and signal a willingness to go out on loan, as was revealed last week.@SkySportDE Tel has appeared in just four of Bayern’s nine Bundesliga matches this season for a total of 114 minutes (via fbref). While the 19-year-old looks determined to make his breakthrough in Munich, his lack of playing time — and Bayern’s crowded attacking ranks, which currently boast Harry Kane up front and the likes of Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané and Michael Olise on the wings — could change the outlook by the January transfer window.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League match with Benfica, along with a reaction to Bayern Munich drawing Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal? FC Bayern München v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Is Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel on the move? Update — 5:13PM EST: Nkunku pushing for Bayern move?Chelsea FC attacker Christopher Nkunku has not had the easiest time since leaving RB leipzig for London. Now, Nkunku could be seeking a move back to Germany...only this time, he wants to play for Bayern Munich per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: Being told clearly that Christopher #Nkunku wants to join FC Bayern!Talks are ongoing, but it’s still an early stage. However, some parties have doubts about whether this swap deal can be completed by February 3rd. #CFC Additionally, much will depend on Mathys #Tel’s decision.Update — 5:00PM EST: A swap deal? An offer incoming?Things might be a little spicy between Bayern Munich and Chelsea FC as the two clubs talk about a deal for Mathys Tel. Per Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is interested in Christopher Nkunku, so the talks could be two-fold:• Chelsea made an enquiry for Mathys Tel, who would cost in-excess of £40million (€47.6m)• Bayern are understood to have monitored the situation of Christopher Nkunku• As of now, no swap deal has been discussed or offered by Chelsea • It is understood Nkunku would be open to joining Bayern if the opportunity presented itself• Chelsea’s interest in Tel is concrete and the club would likely make an official offer if offered encouragement by BayernAccording to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea FC has held talks with Bayern Munich in recent days over...Mathys Tel.The explosive Frenchman has not gotten on track this season and has had trouble finding minutes on Vincent Kompany’s squad. So far this season, Tel has only played 351 minutes in 12 appearances across all competitions. Bayern Munich’s depth has kept the youngster on the sideline, which led many to speculate that he would pursue a loan or a transfer this winter. Last week, though, reports of a “long, direct” talks indicated that Tel was convinced to stay put by Vincent Kompany. After not playing over the weekend, did things change? Maybe, but that is impossible to know at this stage. Either way, Romano had some details on what might be going on: EXCL: Chelsea held talks about Mathys Tel with Bayern in the recent days, early stages of contacts to be informed on his situation.Tel spoke to Kompany 10 days ago as he wants to succeed at Bayern; while Chelsea asked for info on Mathys during talks with the German club.Tel has no goals, nor any assists in any of Bayern Munich’s major competitions this season. According to a report from Sky Sport journalists Florian Plettenberg and Kerry Hau, Manchester United has “signaled” to Bayern Munich that they could submit a loan offer for Mathys Tel.In addition, Aston Villa could also get involved: Manchester United have once again clearly signaled to FC Bayern in the last few hours that they are considering submitting a concrete loan offer for Mathys #Tel. FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images The Bayern Munich youngster would almost certainly need to leave Bavaria in order to get that experience. If Mathys Tel departs Bayern Munich in the closing days of the winter transfer window, Harry Kane will stand alone in the Bayern striking department. Not that Tel has been playing at the No. 9 anyway — but the French youngster was thought to be a potential center-forward and a deputy for Kane. Instead, the senior player will likely need a new understudy.“Mathys is a great young player. I have worked with him for 18 months now. He has a lot of potential, works and likes to train hard,” Kane said after Bayern’s 4-3 win over Holstein Kiel on Saturday, in comments captured by t-online journalist Julian Buhl. “He can still improve, but he has the right mindset to do so.“Whatever his next step is, the most important thing is that he plays. RB Salzburg v FC Bayern München - Friendly Match Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Will Manchester United be able to pony up enough cash to make a deal work with Bayern Munich? After turning down Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel has decided where he wants to go — now it is just a matter of the two clubs working out what could be a “complicated” deal. The young Frenchman has chosen Manchester United as where he wants to play next, but it does not necessarily mean that a deal is imminent as the Red Devils have failed to propose an offer that is to Bayern Munich’s liking. Eintracht Frankfurt v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Maybe Mathys Tel should have been more open to a move... According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt had an agreement in place “three-to-four” weeks ago that would have landed Mathys Tel with Die Adler. Incidentally, this coincides with the timeframe where Vincent Kompany — allegedly — had his “long, direct” talk with Tel that convinced him to stay: Excl | 3–4 weeks ago, Eintracht Frankfurt reached a verbal agreement with FC Bayern on a loan deal for Mathys #Tel with no option to buy.The club executives agreed that this would be a great opportunity for him to gain playing time at the highest level. #SGE However, Tel declined at the time, as he wanted to stay at Bayern. All of this kind of makes it out like the coaching staff and the front office are not in full alignment. Why would Kompany convince Tel to stay if a loan deal with Eintracht Frankfurt was being worked on (or already agreed upon)?Granted, Tel might not have wanted to go to Eintracht Frankfurt anyway, but this whole situation keeps getting more odd. Regardless, Tel now has to get his situation sorted out quickly or he is looking at another four months on the bench.
