Explaining Surah An-Nabaʼ (The Tidings) from Juz’ 30 of the Holy Qur'an – A Wilāyah & Mahdawī Perspective #Wilayah #Mahdawiya #SurahNaba #Quran30thJuz #ImamMahdi #AhlulBayt #ShiaBeliefs 1. Title: A Wilāyah-Focused Beginning to the Tafsir of Surah An-Nabaʼ…
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

1. Verse 1 of Surah An-Naba’
Verse:
عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
Translation:
About what are they asking one another?

Brief Tafsir (Commentary):
This verse opens with a tone of inquiry and wonder, as if expressing amazement at the subject of discussion and dispute among the people. It sets the stage for the mention of the “Great News” (an-Naba' al-‘Azeem)—a tremendous and destiny-defining matter that has captured the attention of minds.

Wilayah Perspective:
According to the narrations of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), this “News” is none other than the Wilayah (Divinely-appointed authority) of Amir al-Mu'minin, Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him)—the very truth over which people have differed. This question marks not only the start of a Surah, but also the beginning of the journey to discern truth from falsehood.

Mahdavi Perspective:
This line of Wilayah continues through the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), culminating in the awaited savior, Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance). In reality, humanity is still engaged in questioning the same “Great News”: Is there truly an Imam who will fill the earth with justice? This question continues to echo across time…

A Beneficial or Detrimental Return? A Qur'anic and Narrational Explanation of Verse 12 of Surah An-Nazi'at 🔍📖 In verse 12 of Surah An-Nazi'at, it is stated: ﴿قالُوا تِلْكَ إِذاً كَرَّةٌ خاسِرَةٌ﴾ “They say: If there is a return, it will be a losing return.”…
🌿 The Heavenly Abode of Wilayah – A Wilāya-Based Reflection on Surah Nazi‘āt, Verse 41

In Surah Nazi‘āt, verse 41, Allah says:

﴿فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى﴾
"Indeed, Paradise is [his] refuge."
(Qur’an 79:41)

This verse describes the final destination of those who feared their Lord and restrained their souls from following desire. But there's a profound insight from the Wilāya-based interpretation preserved in the words of one of the greatest companions of the Prophet, Ibn Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him):

🌸 Paradise: The Refuge of Ali and His Followers

Ibn Abbas says:

"فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِیَ الْمَأْوَى، خَاصّاً لِعَلِیٍّ (ع) وَمَنْ كَانَ عَلَى مَنْهَاجِهِ"
“Indeed, Paradise is the abode — specifically for Ali (peace be upon him) and those who follow his path.”
(Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 17, p. 368)

This sheds light on a subtle truth: Paradise is not just the reward for piety — it is the natural abode of those who hold fast to the Wilayah of Ali (peace be upon him) and remain steadfast on his way.

🌍 Mahdī Perspective & Today’s Message

From a Mahdī (aj) perspective, this verse is a reminder that in the time of the reappearance and the establishment of divine justice by the awaited Imam (may Allah hasten his reappearance), those who walk in the path of Ali (a.s.) and AhlulBayt will inherit not only Paradise in the Hereafter but also peace and security in this world.

Following Ali is the path to salvation and the garden of eternal peace.
Those who never part from the way of Ali and Mahdi (peace be upon them) will find their abode in nothing but God’s pleasure and the highest paradise.

✨ “Wilayah is not just a belief — it's the passport to paradise.”
⏳ Let’s walk Ali’s path today, to arrive at Mahdi’s world tomorrow.

🔹 Verse 97 – Surah An-Nisa | Wilayah & Mahdawi Explanation

🌙 Noble Verse

“Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves, [the angels] will say, ‘In what [condition] were you?’ They will say, ‘We were oppressed in the land.’ [The angels] will say, ‘Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?’ For those, their refuge is Hell – and evil it is as a destination.” (An-Nisa, 97)

✍️ Wilayah Narration

✅ Ali ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: 💬 “This verse was revealed about those who abandoned Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (peace be upon him) and refrained from supporting him in battle. When the angels seize their souls, they ask, ‘What condition were you in?’ They reply, ‘We were weak and helpless.’ The angels respond, ‘Was not Allah’s religion and His Book vast enough for you to turn to and migrate for His sake?’ – meaning the way to know the truth was open.” 📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, v.3 | Al-Qummi, v.1 | Al-Burhan

🌟 Wilayah Reflection

🔹 The verse warns that excuses and claims of weakness are no justification for abandoning the Wilayah and failing to support the Guardian of Allah.
🔹 True “weakness” is not material poverty but the refusal to recognize the Divine Proof and indifference to the camp of truth — a self-inflicted injustice.
🔹 Here, Wilayah is the measure of salvation: whoever knows Ali’s right and stands with him is saved from being among “those who wronged themselves.”

✨ Mahdawi Reflection

🔸 In the era of Occultation, the truly weak are those genuinely deprived of access to the Proof; but anyone who knows the Imam yet neglects his support is counted among the self-wrongdoers.
🔸 Migration for Allah today means migrating from ignorance to knowledge, from heedlessness to insight, from passivity to active support for Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).
🔸 This verse clarifies the duty of the Awaiters: when the means to recognize and aid the Imam exist, claiming helplessness is no excuse.

✅ Wilayah & Mahdawi Conclusion

✔️ Salvation requires leaving the zone of neutrality and indifference.
✔️ A believer loyal to Wilayah must “migrate” — intellectually, spiritually, and practically — if truth is neglected around them.
✔️ The true Hijrah today is towards the Imam of the Age: moving from the camp of falsehood to the camp of truth, bonded to the Wilayah.

(Surah An-Nisa 4:159)

✍️ Wilayah & Mahdavi Narrations

1. Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him):
When this verse was revealed, the Prophet said:
“Whoever denies what has been revealed about Jesus (peace be upon him) is a disbeliever. And whoever denies what I have said about Ali (peace be upon him) is also a disbeliever.”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Wasa’il al-Shi‘a, vol. 28, p. 345

2. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family):
He said:
“O Ali! You are like Jesus (peace be upon him). Just as the enemies of Jesus will believe in him at the moment of death, your enemies too will admit to your truth at the moment of their death — but it will be of no benefit to them. And your lovers will see you at their death, as you bring joy and intercede for them.”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Tafsir Furat al-Kufi, p. 116

3. Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him):
He said:
“No one from the followers of different religions — from the beginning to the end — will die without acknowledging the truth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him).”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 6, p. 188

4. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family):
He said:
“The Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) is from my progeny. When he rises, Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him) will descend and perform prayer behind him.”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Al-Amali of al-Saduq, p. 218

5. Imam Hasan (peace be upon him):
He said:
“All of us from the Ahl al-Bayt were compelled to pledge allegiance to the tyrants of our times, except the Qa’im (Imam Mahdi). He will appear, and Jesus (peace be upon him) will pray behind him.”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Kashf al-Ghummah, vol. 2, p. 522

6. ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Qummi (may Allah have mercy on him):
He states:
“When the Prophet (peace be upon him) returns [in the era of Rajʿah], all people will believe in him.”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 53, p. 50

7. Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him):
He said:
“This verse was revealed about us, the Ahl al-Bayt. None of the children of Fatima (peace be upon her) dies without confessing the Imamate of his contemporary Imam, just as the sons of Jacob confessed the position of Joseph (peace be upon them both).”
📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 512 / Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 9, p. 195

✅ Wilayah & Mahdavi Conclusion

✔️ This verse affirms the truth of Jesus (peace be upon him) in the eyes of the People of the Book.
✔️ It also validates the absolute Wilayah of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), a truth that becomes fully visible at the moment of death.
✔️ Jesus will return (Rajʿah) and join forces with Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).
✔️ Themes of return (Rajʿah), reappearance (Zuhur), deathbed confession of faith, and Jesus praying behind Mahdi all point to the ultimate manifestation of the truth of Wilayah.

🔹 Verse 166 – Surah An-Nisā’ | A Qur’anic Affirmation of Divine Wilayah and Mahdawiyyah

🌙 The Noble Verse

“But Allah bears witness to what He has revealed to you. He has sent it down with His knowledge. And the angels [too] bear witness. And sufficient is Allah as a witness.”
(Surah An-Nisā’, 4:166)

📜 The Wilāyah-Based Narration

✳️ Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said:
“‘But Allah bears witness to what He has revealed to you’ means that Allah bears witness to what He revealed to you about Ali (peace be upon him). ‘He has sent it down with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness. And sufficient is Allah as a witness’—this revelation is grounded in divine knowledge, affirmed by the angels, and God's testimony alone suffices to establish the truth of Ali’s (a) divine authority.”
📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt (a), vol. 3, p. 530; Bihār al-Anwār, vol. 36, p. 93; al-Burhān; Nūr al-Thaqalayn; Tafsīr al-Qummī

🌟 Wilāyah and Mahdawī Insight

This verse powerfully underscores that the matter of Imam Ali’s (peace be upon him) divinely ordained leadership (wilāyah) is not merely inferred from human interpretation, but is a subject of explicit divine testimony. Allah Himself affirms what He has revealed concerning Ali (a), with the endorsement of the angels—rooted in divine knowledge and final in its authority.

According to the narration from Imam al-Sadiq (a), what Allah testifies to in this verse is the revelation of verses concerning Ali’s wilāyah. This divine testimony is a conclusive proof upon the ummah, leaving no room for denial or evasion.

🔸 From a Mahdawī perspective, this verse fortifies the line of divine leadership (wilāyah) from Imam Ali to Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon them both). Just as the beginning of this sacred path was divinely testified to, its continuation until the advent of the final divine savior remains grounded in knowledge, scripture, and celestial witness.

🔹 Verse 167 – Surah An-Nisā’ | A Wilāyah and Mahdawī Analysis

🌙 The Noble Verse

“Indeed, those who disbelieve and hinder [others] from the way of Allah have certainly gone far astray.”
(Surah An-Nisā’, 4:167)

💠 The Noble Ḥadīth (Exact Transmission)

Imam al-Bāqir (peace be upon him) said:

“‘Indeed, those who disbelieve’ refers to the Banū Umayyah; and ‘hinder from the way of Allah’ refers to their obstruction of the Wilāyah of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon him).”
📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt (a), vol. 3, p. 530; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 35, p. 364; al-Manāqib, vol. 3, p. 72

🔍 Wilāyah and Mahdawī Perspective

This verse highlights two grave offenses: disbelief (kufr) and blocking the path of Allah (ṣadd ʿan sabīlillāh). According to Imam al-Bāqir (a), the "Path of Allah" here is none other than the Wilāyah of Amīr al-Muʾminīn ʿAlī (a). Thus, disbelief in this context refers to rejecting and opposing this divinely mandated leadership—an act epitomized by the Banū Umayyah.

🛡️ The Banū Umayyah not only disbelieved in the Wilāyah of ʿAlī (a), but they also actively obstructed it through political, military, and ideological suppression. This historic deviation became a root cause of deep misguidance within the Muslim ummah.

✨ From a Mahdawī viewpoint, the advent of Imam al-Mahdī (a) will mark the revival of this forsaken path—the true "Way of Allah" embodied in the Wilāyah of the Ahl al-Bayt (a). The Imam will reopen the path that was sealed, leading humanity back to the light of divinely appointed guidance.

🧭 Summary of Wilāyah and Mahdawiyyah

The “Way of Allah” (Sabīlullāh) in this verse signifies the Wilāyah of Imam ʿAlī (a).

Blocking this path is a historical deviation led by the enemies of Wilāyah, especially the Banū Umayyah.

Imam al-Mahdī (a) will return to re-establish this divine path, saving humanity from the deep misguidance (ḍalāl baʿīd) mentioned in the verse.

🌙 The Noble Verse

“O mankind! Indeed, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe—it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then surely to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”
(Surah al-Nisā’, 4:170)

📜 Narrations from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them)

1. Imam al-Bāqir (peace be upon him):

“O people! The Messenger brought to you the Wilāyah of ʿAlī (peace be upon him) from your Lord.”
“So believe—it is better for you,” means: believe in the Wilāyah of ʿAlī (a), for that is better for you.
And if you disbelieve in it, it will not harm Allah—for He is the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth.

📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt (a), vol. 3, p. 532; al-Kāfī, vol. 1, p. 424; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 24, p. 224; Taʾwīl al-Āyāt al-Ẓāhirah, p. 149; Nūr al-Thaqalayn

2. Imam al-Bāqir (peace be upon him):

Regarding “So believe—it is better for you,” he said: It refers to belief in the Wilāyah of Amīr al-Muʾminīn (peace be upon him).”

📚 al-Ṣirāṭ al-Mustaqīm, vol. 1, p. 273; al-Burhān

3. ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm al-Qummī (may Allah have mercy on him):

In many Qur’anic verses, the term "the Truth" (al-Ḥaqq) refers to the Prophet (s) and Imam ʿAlī (a)—as in:
“And if the Truth had followed their desires, the heavens and the earth would have been corrupted…” (Surah al-Mu’minūn, 23:71)
That is, had the Prophet and Imam ʿAlī (a) followed the whims of Quraysh, the order of creation would have fallen apart.

📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt (a), vol. 3, p. 532; Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 9, p. 225; Tafsīr al-Qummī, vol. 2, p. 92

✨ Wilāyah and Mahdawī Perspective

This verse portrays the Prophet (s) not only as the bearer of law and scripture, but also as the bearer of the Wilāyah of Imam ʿAlī (a), as ordained by God. The Wilāyah of the Imams is the continuation and completion of the Prophetic mission. Faith is incomplete—and even rejected—without acceptance of this divinely appointed leadership.

Notably, the verse addresses all humanity with "O mankind!", indicating that the call to believe in Wilāyah is universal and eternal. Therefore, the message is not limited to the Prophet’s contemporaries—it extends until the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdī (may Allah hasten his reappearance).

📌 In the Age of Occultation, acting upon this verse includes:

Believing in the living Proof of Allah—Imam al-Mahdī (a)

Following the path of Wilāyah, established by the Prophet (s) and entrusted to his successors

Awaiting the reappearance of the one who is the continuation of "al-Ḥaqq" brought by the Prophet and Imam ʿAlī (a)

🧭 Summary Points:

The “truth” (al-Ḥaqq) refers to both the Prophet and Imam ʿAlī (a)

The Prophet’s mission included delivering the message of Wilāyah

Belief in Wilāyah is the best path for all people and all times

Imam al-Mahdī (a) is the current bearer of this truth in occultation

📌 Final Message:

The truth brought by the Prophet (s) was not only a book—it was a path, a leadership, a covenant. And whoever believes in it, walks toward salvation.
