USD/CAD Declines Amid a Flurry of Market News
The Canadian dollar strengthened against the U.S. dollar today, pushing USD/CAD down to 1.39750 – a level that acted as resistance in early October but has since turned into support.
The pair’s fluctuations come amid a busy news backdrop. On Friday:
→ President Trump announced the suspension of trade talks with Canada, reportedly due to his dissatisfaction with Canadian advertising campaigns using Ronald Reagan’s image to criticise tariffs.
→ The CPI report came in weaker than expected. According to Forex Factory, U.S. annual inflation stood at 3.0%, compared with the 3.1% forecast by analysts.
This week could bring heightened volatility as markets await two key rate decisions on Wednesday:
→ At 16:45 GMT+3, the Bank of Canada is expected to cut its policy rate from 2.50% to 2.25%;
→ At 21:00 GMT+3, the Federal Reserve is forecast to lower the Federal Funds Rate from 4.25% to 4.0%.
Both announcements will be accompanied by policy statements that could significantly influence USD/CAD price action.
Technical Analysis: USD/CAD Chart
Last month’s analysis highlighted two key structures:
→ A red long-term descending channel originating in early February;
→ A blue ascending channel formed by price swings since mid-summer.
Since then:
→ Bulls managed to break above the red channel’s upper boundary;
→ The price consolidated around the median line of the blue channel in early October.
From a bearish perspective:
→ The price failed to hold above the psychological level of 1.4000;
→ A sequence of lower highs forms a descending trendline.
From a bullish perspective:
→ The blue channel remains intact;
→ 1.39750 serves as support;
→ An additional support zone lies just below, near the breakout point of the red channel where buying pressure was previously strong.
Given these factors, the red trendline may represent a corrective pattern within the broader bullish structure. Whether buyers can resume the uptrend successfully will largely depend on the upcoming central bank decisions and any further statements from President Trump.

Nasdaq 100 Analysis: Index Reaches an All-Time High
As the chart shows, trading in the Nasdaq 100 (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) opened with a bullish gap today, with the price rising above the 25,600 mark for the first time in history.
The upbeat sentiment is being driven by:
→ expectations of a potential interest rate cut, with the Federal Reserve’s decision due on Wednesday;
→ the upcoming meeting between Chinese and U.S. leaders, where the presidents may announce a new trade agreement;
→ anticipation of quarterly earnings reports from major tech firms – Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL) and Meta Platforms (META) are all set to release results this week.
Technical Analysis of the Nasdaq 100 Chart
A closer look at the hourly Nasdaq 100 (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) chart, within the context of this month’s volatility, shows a steady recovery from the sharp drop on 10 October – the day President Trump suggested imposing 100% tariffs on Chinese goods.
The contours of that sell-off can now be used to outline an ascending channel, which neatly captures the market’s current price swings. Notably, today the index climbed into the upper half of that channel, overcoming resistance levels at:
→ the channel’s median line;
→ the 25,220 mark.
Since last Thursday’s low, the price has advanced by more than 3.5% – a strong rally – forming a steep upward trajectory (highlighted in orange). In this context:
→ the next potential target lies at the upper boundary of the blue channel, which would mark a new record high near 26,000 for the Nasdaq 100;
→ however, with RSI signalling overbought conditions, a short-term correction towards 25,500 would be a healthy development.
Should this week’s key events deliver the optimism investors are hoping for, the bulls may well succeed in reaching those ambitious targets.

USD/JPY Declines Amid Trump’s Visit to Japan
The Japanese yen strengthened on Monday, pushing the USD/JPY pair below the ¥152 mark. The move can be seen as a market reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Japan, where he met with the newly elected Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.
During the visit, the two leaders proclaimed a “new golden era” in U.S.–Japan relations and signed:
→ an official trade agreement introducing a 15% tariff on Japanese exports;
→ a deal on the supply of rare earth metals.
According to several media reports, Sanae Takaichi plans to nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and invest around $550 billion in the U.S. economy.
Technical Analysis of the USD/JPY Chart
Applying a regression channel from the key low recorded on 17 September reveals a clear upward structure, which effectively illustrates major price movements (marked with arrows):
1 & 3 → rebounds from the lower boundary of the channel;
2 → reversal from the upper boundary;
4 → a consolidation phase near the median line, where supply and demand are balanced.
The latest decline from the median can be viewed as a sign of shifting sentiment, suggesting that sellers may now target the lower boundary of this channel. However:
→ the 151.50 level represents a notable support zone, having held firm on 21–22 October;
→ bearish conviction is also reinforced by the pair’s repeated failure to close above ¥153, forming what appears to be a Double Top pattern.
Whether the pair will reach the lower edge of the regression channel largely depends on the broader fundamental backdrop:
→ Trump’s international tour continues, with traders awaiting his meeting with China’s leadership;
→ this week’s key events include interest rate decisions from the Federal Reserve on Wednesday and the Bank of Japan on Thursday — the latter drawing particular attention given the recent change in Japan’s leadership.
These developments could significantly shift sentiment in the USD/JPY market — traders should be prepared for potential spikes in volatility.

Gold Extends Its Decline Below the $4,000 Level
As the chart shows, the XAU/USD quote has fallen below $3,945 today — its lowest level since 6 October. The downward momentum is being driven by traders’ caution ahead of two key events:
→ the U.S. Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest rate decision;
→ the meeting between U.S. and Chinese leaders, which could help ease tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
Technical Analysis of the XAU/USD Chart
The ascending channel (shown in blue) illustrates gold’s remarkable rally from the 20 August low (point A):
→ throughout September, the median line acted as strong support;
→ the peak at point B coincided with the upper boundary of the channel;
→ the QH line — dividing the upper half into quarters — alternated between resistance and support.
The black lines mark the consolidation zone observed between 21 and 27 October:
→ its lower boundary aligns with the median;
→ the shape resembles a Symmetrical Triangle pattern, which has since been broken to the downside.
The chart highlights the confidence of sellers — bears managed to push prices through the key support area defined by:
→ the psychological $4,000 level;
→ the 0.382 Fibonacci retracement (indicated by the orange arrow).
The next potential target for the ongoing decline lies near the QL line, which coincides with the round-number level of $3,900. However, this may only serve as a temporary barrier before bears attempt to drive the price lower — towards the bottom boundary of the primary channel.

Australian Dollar Rises Above $0.660
According to the AUD/USD chart today, the Australian dollar has climbed to its highest level in three weeks. The currency’s strength stems from the following factors:
→ Australia’s monthly consumer price index (CPI) came in stronger than expected. According to Forex Factory, annual inflation reached 3.5%, compared with analysts’ forecasts of 3.1%. This marks the highest reading since July 2024, pointing to renewed inflationary pressure.
→ As a result, traders have significantly reduced bets on further monetary easing. Data from Trading Economics shows that the probability of the Reserve Bank of Australia keeping its interest rate unchanged at 3.6% at its 4 November meeting is now close to 90%.
Technical Analysis of the AUD/USD Chart
Since mid-September, movements in the AUD/USD pair have formed a descending channel (shown in red), built on a series of lower highs and lows starting from point A.
However, note that in mid-October:
→ the price dipped below the lower boundary;
→ the RSI indicator entered oversold territory;
→ candles displayed large bodies;
→ an inverted head and shoulders reversal pattern emerged.
From a Smart Money Concept perspective, it is reasonable to assume that within the area marked by the purple rectangle, Smart Money was accumulating sellers’ liquidity to build long positions.
Following this, the Australian dollar showed strong momentum as the price broke through:
→ resistance at 0.6520 near the channel’s median (forming a bullish gap in the process);
→ the upper boundary of the red channel around 0.6565.
Building on this view → the price now appears to be moving towards a liquidity zone, where Smart Money could find sufficient buy-side liquidity. This area may lie above the 0.6630 level, which previously acted as resistance in early October.
It is also possible that today’s Federal Reserve decision (the Federal Funds Rate announcement scheduled for 21:00 GMT+3) will help this scenario play out.

Nvidia (NVDA) Shares Surpass $200 for the First Time
Yesterday, Nvidia’s (NVDA) share price climbed above the psychological threshold of $200 for the first time, pushing the company’s market capitalisation close to $5 trillion.
Why Are NVDA Shares Rising Today?
Several bullish factors are driving Nvidia’s share price higher:
→ Massive order backlog: The company reported pre-orders for its AI processors totalling an astonishing $500 billion.
→ Strategic partnership with the US government: CEO Jensen Huang announced plans to build seven AI supercomputers for the US Department of Energy.
→ Expansion into telecoms: Nvidia has invested $1 billion in Nokia, acquiring a 2.9% stake in the Finnish company to jointly develop AI-RAN and 6G technologies.
Technical Analysis of Nvidia (NVDA)
Back on 23 September, our analysis of the NVDA chart identified:
→ an upward channel outlining the stock’s price movements this autumn;
→ a breakout from a Bullish Flag pattern (shown in red);
→ a projection that strong fundamentals, the rapid advance of AI technology, and expectations of a Fed rate cut could enable bulls to overcome the $183 resistance level and target the psychological $200 mark.
That projection has materialised since:
→ the Bullish Flag breakout level has acted as support (marked with a bold blue line);
→ NVDA price swings have provided anchor points to refine the current channel.
What’s Next for Nvidia Shares?
Note the bullish gaps (highlighted by arrows) that indicate a demand imbalance. The rapidly strengthening upward momentum could drive NVDA’s share price towards the upper boundary of the channel, particularly as several major events approach today:
→ the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and subsequent press conference;
→ quarterly earnings releases from Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Meta Platforms (META), all of which are expected to reaffirm their commitment to AI development.

According to the chart, the Nasdaq 100 index (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) has climbed above the 26,260 mark for the first time in history. Market sentiment is being driven by an extraordinary combination of powerful news factors:
→ Meeting between US President Donald Trump and China’s leader Xi Jinping in Busan, South Korea. The talks lasted around one hour and forty minutes. Xi emphasised the importance of “steering the giant ship” of bilateral relations, while Trump described the meeting as “tremendous” and “fantastic”. However, few concrete details about a potential trade deal were revealed.
→ Federal Reserve rate cut. As expected, the Fed cut interest rates by 0.25% yesterday. Jerome Powell struck a cautious tone, using the metaphor of “driving through fog” to describe the lack of key inflation and labour market data due to the government shutdown. He also highlighted divisions within the committee, suggesting that another rate cut – possibly in December – remains uncertain.
→ Tech giant earnings reports. After the US stock market closed yesterday, Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Meta Platforms (META) released their quarterly results. A key theme across all three was massive capital expenditure on artificial intelligence. Investors are now questioning whether these heavy investments are beginning to pay off.
Technical analysis of the Nasdaq 100 chart
At the start of the week, when analysing the hourly chart of the Nasdaq 100 (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen), we:
→ used the outlines of the 10 October sell-off to construct an upward channel (shown in blue);
→ drew a steeper trajectory using three orange trendlines;
→ suggested that the price target was the upper boundary of the blue channel.
That target has now been reached, and the upper boundary is showing signs of resistance — evidenced by the price slipping below the middle orange line and now being supported by the lower one.
Given the emerging RSI divergence, it is reasonable to assume that the upward momentum (+6% since the start of the month) may begin to slow. Note the recent bearish candlestick (marked by an arrow), notable for its strong move. Profit-taking could soon occur, with bears potentially attempting to push the Nasdaq 100 back down towards the median of the blue channel.

Forex Traders Focus on Central Bank Decisions
As expected, the Federal Reserve yesterday cut the Federal Funds Rate from 4.25% to 4.00%, while Jerome Powell’s remarks reduced the likelihood of further rate cuts. Meanwhile, decisions by other key central banks are also influencing the currency markets, according to Forex Factory:
→ The Bank of Canada lowered its policy rate from 2.50% to 2.25%, in line with market expectations. Its official statement highlighted risks of slower GDP growth, “continued weakness in the economy”, and concerns over U.S. trade relations and tariffs.
→ The Bank of Japan (BoJ) kept interest rates unchanged but signalled readiness to raise borrowing costs if economic conditions allow. This has shifted traders’ focus towards a possible rate hike as early as December.
→ The European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to leave its key rate steady, with the decision due at 16:15 GMT+3 today.
→ Next week, both the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of England are scheduled to announce their policy decisions.
Against this backdrop, attention is increasingly turning to the Dollar Index (DXY) chart today.
Technical Analysis of the DXY Chart
On 19 September, we conducted a key analysis of the DXY chart, noting that:
→ The long-term downward channel (shown in red) remains relevant, divided into quarters by the intermediate QL and QH lines.
→ The index had rebounded from the QL line (marked by an arrow).
→ A bullish scenario was emerging.
Following that rebound, the price began to form an upward trajectory, reaching the upper boundary of the channel by 10 October — which, as anticipated, acted as strong resistance.
Currently, the DXY chart displays a narrowing triangle pattern, where:
→ The resistance is defined by the upper edge of the long-term descending channel that has contained the index’s 2025 movements.
→ The short-term upward channel from the September low remains intact.
This formation may reflect both the current balance of the U.S. dollar against a basket of major currencies and the uncertainty among analysts about its future direction.
Given the combination of central bank decisions, the U.S. government shutdown, geopolitical risks, and trade tensions, a breakout from this triangle could mark the start of a major trend lasting several weeks or even months.
Yesterday’s Fed decision strengthened the dollar, breaking through a local Bullish Flag pattern (shown in blue) and increasing the likelihood of further upward momentum.

#META #stocktrading #stockmarket #MarketNews #marketanalysis
Meta Platforms (META) shares plunge 11%
On Wednesday, Meta Platforms (META) released its quarterly report, which included several positive highlights:
→ revenue rose to $51.2 billion (forecast: $49.5 billion);
→ the size of the daily active audience increased to 3.54 billion people.
However, META’s share price fell below the psychological threshold of $700, hitting its lowest level in almost five months. This drop was triggered by two unpleasant surprises revealed in the report.
Tax write-offs
According to media reports, due to new US tax legislation (referred to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”), the company recorded a one-off income tax expense of $15.93 billion.
Because of this write-off, earnings per share (EPS) came in at $1.05 (analysts had expected $6.72). However, the company clarified that excluding this one-off item, EPS would have been $7.25, which would have been a very strong result.
AI-related expenses
Another factor that may have alarmed shareholders is that Mark Zuckerberg’s company raised its capital expenditure forecast for 2025 to $70–72 billion. These funds will go towards building data centres and purchasing AI chips.
In essence, Meta Platforms is striving to take a leading position in the AI space and is prepared to spend tens of billions to achieve that goal. For shareholders, this means that even as revenue grows, net profit is being eroded by massive spending—and it remains unclear when these costs will pay off.
Technical analysis of META’s chart
When analysing META’s chart in mid-August, we:
→ drew an ascending channel (shown in blue);
→ pointed out signs of weakness (including a bearish gap¹, shown in orange);
→ suggested that the balance could shift in favour of the bears, which might trigger a noticeable correction in META’s share price.
This scenario played out as a decline from A → B. After rebounding from the key line of the blue channel, the price rose towards the bearish gap¹, forming a lower high C. The downward movement then continued, and the channel was extended with a lower low D.
The large bearish gap² that formed this week could also act as resistance (as in the previous case), and this effect is likely to be more pronounced near the $700 psychological level.
Overall, the picture looks extremely negative:
→ the sequence of lower highs and lows A → D is likely to continue with a new lower low F;
→ the price remains in the lower half of the red channel, drawn along this sequence.
From a bullish perspective:
→ $650 serves as a psychological support level;
→ if the rise from the April low to peak A is viewed as an impulse, then the decline A → F is approaching $640, corresponding to the 50% Fibonacci retracement level.
Given the above, it is reasonable to assume that the market will now reassess the new factors revealed in the report. From a charting standpoint, this could mean a period of consolidation, with META’s share price fluctuating between the red median line and the current support level of $650.

EUR/USD Under Pressure
Today, the EUR/USD pair is trading around 1.1560, close to autumn lows. From this week’s high, the pair has fallen by roughly 0.85%, reflecting bearish pressure.
The main factors driving the decline are traders’ reactions to central bank signals:
→ Hawkish Fed rhetoric: On Wednesday, Jerome Powell indicated that further rate cuts are “by no means predetermined.” The Fed continues to see mixed signals from the labour market and inflation data, suggesting it will not rush into easing policy.
→ ECB keeps rates unchanged: Yesterday, the European Central Bank left rates steady. However, markets remain concerned about the slowing economic growth across the eurozone, meaning the ECB cannot afford to tighten policy amid weak activity.
Technical Analysis of EUR/USD
Since mid-September, price movements have formed a descending channel (shown in red). Today, the pair fell below a key support level at 1.1580 (highlighted by arrows).
An earlier attempt to break this support in early October failed — as the pair entered oversold territory below the channel, it formed a double bottom (A–B) before sharply rebounding.
In this context, the 1.15435 level, where the double bottom formed, is significant. The orange-shaded area shows that bulls step in near this level, producing candles with long lower wicks. On shorter timeframes, this behaviour displays signs of a bullish engulfing pattern.
If bears succeed in breaking support, the pair could test the lower boundary of the red channel. Positive news from Donald Trump on progress in trade talks with China could improve the U.S. trade balance, supporting this bearish scenario.
Conversely, if bulls continue defending the 1.1560–1.15435 zone, EUR/USD may rebound, potentially moving towards the QH line.

Amazon (AMZN) Shares Reach $250 for the First Time
As the chart shows, Amazon (AMZN) shares rose to a record high on Friday, reaching the $250 mark for the first time. This came after the publication of a strong earnings report:
→ Revenue: $180.2 billion (up 13% year on year).
→ Earnings per share (EPS): actual = $1.95, forecast = $1.56 (a 25% beat).
Investor sentiment was further boosted by the following:
→ AWS (Amazon Web Services) revenue grew by 20% year on year, despite competition from Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
→ Amazon issued a confident outlook for the crucial holiday (fourth) quarter.
Technical Analysis of Amazon (AMZN) Chart
When analysing the chart on 24 September, we:
→ used AMZN share price fluctuations to construct an upward channel (shown in blue);
→ noted early signs of weakness.
Subsequently, the price reached a low at point A – where the bulls found support from the lower boundary of the channel and the August low (in fact, there was a false bearish breakout) – and made a successful attempt to resume the uptrend.
The two red candles on Friday suggest that the initial reaction to the report may have been overly optimistic (as confirmed by the RSI indicator). Therefore, it is possible that a corrective move will follow – for example, towards the support area that includes:
→ the median line of the current channel;
→ the previous all-time high of $242;
→ the September high around $238;
→ the 0.382 Fibonacci retracement level of the A→B impulse, around $235.

XAG/USD Analysis: Price Stabilises Below the Psychological Level
October proved exceptionally volatile for the silver market — the price broke past a historical record, climbing above $50. However, after widespread profit-taking, the market reversed downward.
XAG/USD is currently influenced by several factors:
→ prospects for Federal Reserve policy;
→ the easing of trade tensions between the United States and China;
→ the potential government shutdown and related news.
As indicated by the ATR indicator, volatility is declining — suggesting that supply and demand forces may be finding a balance.
Technical Analysis of the XAG/USD Chart
The broad upward channel remains intact, though it is worth noting that its median line has shifted from acting as support to serving as resistance.
From a bullish perspective:
→ the lower boundary of the channel acts as strong support;
→ the bullish A-B-C-D structure indicates that demand is recovering.
From a bearish perspective: if the silver price continues to rise, it will face resistance at:
→ the psychological $50 mark;
→ the 21 October drop zone, where selling pressure previously dominated.
Given the above, it is reasonable to assume that:
→ in the near term, the price may consolidate around the QL line;
→ if bearish momentum resumes, the alternative downward channel (shown in red) will gain relevance.

In this episode of Market Insights, Gary Thomson unpacks the strategic implications of the week’s most critical events driving global markets.
👉 Key topics covered in this episode:
🔸 BoE Interest Rate Decision
The BoE’s 6 November meeting was expected to be uneventful — until Goldman Sachs predicted a rate cut, citing weaker inflation, slower growth, and fiscal tightening. Markets still see only a 1-in-3 chance of a cut, but a dovish shift in the MPC vote or outlook could shake the pound. Will the Bank of England surprise the markets this time?
🔸 Canada’s Unemployment Rate
Canada’s unemployment data for October is due on 7 November, after September’s figures showed resilience despite a 7.1% jobless rate — the highest in three years. Analysts now expect a slight uptick to 7.2%. Will weaker unemployment give the Canadian dollar another boost?
🔸Corporate Earnings Reports
The first week of November brings key reports from Uber, Shopify, and AMD — spanning mobility, e-commerce, and AI hardware. Each could spark short-term market moves as traders gauge consumer demand and tech momentum. Which sector do you think will drive the biggest market reaction?

Nasdaq 100 Analysis: Early November Movements Raise Concerns
As the chart shows, the Nasdaq 100 index (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) gained around 6% in October, supported by several key factors:
→ The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which helped ease tensions in trade relations between the world’s two largest economies.
→ A 0.25% rate cut by the Federal Reserve.
→ Positive earnings from major tech companies, including a strong report from Alphabet (GOOGL).
However, the market’s behaviour in early November is cause for concern — on the morning of 4 November, the stock index fell to its lowest level in a week. Bearish sentiment is being fuelled by:
→ uncertainty over the timing of the end of the government shutdown;
→ a weaker-than-expected ISM Manufacturing PMI report, which may reflect the impact of Trump’s tariffs on US industry.
Technical Analysis of the Nasdaq 100 Chart
Analysing the hourly chart of the Nasdaq 100 (US Tech 100 mini on FXOpen) on 30 October, we:
→ confirmed the relevance of the upward channel (shown in blue), noting that the upper boundary was showing signs of resistance;
→ drew a steeper trajectory consisting of three orange lines;
→ suggested a profit-taking scenario, in which bears would attempt to push the Nasdaq 100 index down towards the median line of the blue channel.
This scenario has since materialised, as:
→ the median line has repeatedly acted as support (highlighted in blue);
→ the breakout level of the orange lines at 26,120 has turned into a resistance zone.
At present, the Nasdaq 100 index is trading in the lower half of the channel, indicating that the bullish momentum from late October has faded. Bulls might find support near the gap area, reinforced by the lower boundary of the blue channel.

AMD Shares Rise Above $250 Ahead of Earnings Report
Today, 4 November, after the close of the main trading session, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is set to release its quarterly earnings report and outline its plans for the near future. Market participants remain optimistic, as several key bullish developments last month strengthened confidence in AMD’s role in the AI infrastructure race:
→ AMD shares surged in early October following news of a multibillion-dollar deal with OpenAI.
→ Oracle Cloud chose AMD’s graphics processing units (GPUs) for its new AI supercomputers.
→ IBM announced a breakthrough in quantum computing made possible through the use of AMD chips.
Buoyed by this wave of positive news and high expectations, AMD’s share price climbed above the psychological $250 mark (+61% since early October), reaching a record high.
Technical Analysis of AMD Stock
Price analysis shows that since April, the market has been forming a broad upward channel (shown in blue):
→ Strong news led to the correction phase (shown in red) being replaced by a resumption of the bullish trend in an aggressive manner;
→ Today, AMD’s price is testing the upper boundary of the channel.
The thickened S/R lines indicate that the angle of ascent is becoming steeper. Much now depends on today’s earnings release. Traders are awaiting confirmation from CEO Lisa Su regarding the company’s revenue forecasts tied to new deals amid the ongoing AI boom.
If bold expectations fail to materialise, a pullback could follow:
→ towards the lower thickened support line;
→ or deeper, towards the median line of the upward channel.
Alternatively, we may see the bulls attempt to break above the upper boundary and extend the blue channel higher.

The Dollar Index Near a Key High
As shown on the Dollar Index (DXY) chart, the strength of the US currency is currently hovering near an important high reached in August. Market sentiment is being influenced by:
→ the ongoing government shutdown, which has already become the longest in history;
→ traders’ assessment of last week’s developments, including the Fed’s interest rate cut, the meeting between the US and Chinese presidents in South Korea, and quarterly earnings reports from major corporations.
Adding to the turbulence is the political factor: according to media reports, Democrats have achieved victories in several local elections. Notably, Zohran Mamdani – a Muslim candidate from the Democratic Party – has been elected Mayor of New York for the first time.
Technical Analysis of the DXY Chart
It is worth recalling that on 19 September we published an important analysis of the DXY chart, in which we:
→ highlighted the false breakout of the 1 July low;
→ suggested a bullish scenario.
Following this, the price rose to the upper boundary of the red channel. In our earlier analysis, we:
→ constructed an ascending channel;
→ anticipated that the upward trajectory would remain relevant.
That scenario played out – demand proved strong enough to overcome:
→ resistance around the 95-point level, where a double-top pattern (a–b) had previously formed;
→ the psychological barrier at 100 points.
It is possible that the 3.7% rise in the Dollar Index over roughly one and a half months could attract sellers. The main intrigue now lies in whether we will see an aggressive reversal accompanied by a false breakout – similar to what occurred in September, but this time in a downward direction.

#nikkei225 #JPY #forextrading #forex #tradingtips #forexmarket #marketanalysis
Nikkei 225 Plunges from Record High
As the chart shows, the Nikkei 225 stock index (Japan 225 on FXOpen) formed a historic peak around 52,500 points only yesterday — but today it has fallen sharply, with losses at the session low reaching approximately 7%.
Bearish sentiment was fuelled in part by a slump in shares of Japanese investment giant SoftBank, which dropped by around 14%. The company’s heavy exposure to sectors linked to artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies, both currently under pressure, has raised investor concerns.
The decline in the Nikkei 225 appears to be an extension of the sell-off in US technology stocks recorded yesterday, driven by a stronger dollar and growing fears of an AI-fuelled bubble.
Technical Analysis of the Nikkei 225 Chart
As shown by the 200- and 400-period moving averages on the 4-hour chart, Japan’s equity market remains in a long-term uptrend, with the widening gap between the two lines signalling an acceleration in growth. This supports the relevance of two upward channels:
→ a long-term channel, shown in blue;
→ an intermediate channel, marked by orange lines with a steeper gradient.
It is noteworthy that at the start of November, the Nikkei 225 entered the zone where the upper boundaries of both channels intersect – unsurprisingly, this confluence of resistance lines triggered a wave of selling pressure.
Key observations:
→ Sellers succeeded in pushing the price down towards the lower orange line, which acted as strong support, similar to the movement seen between 10–12 October (indicated by arrows on the chart);
→ Today, the price made a false bearish breakout below the psychological 50,000 level, forming a candle with a long lower shadow – a sign of buying interest.
Given the above, it is reasonable to assume that the market may attempt to resume its upward trajectory. Should this scenario play out, we could see signs of rally exhaustion, as the upward movement that began in April has already lifted the Nikkei 225 by more than 280%.

Gold Price Surges Above $4,000
As the chart shows, XAU/USD climbed above the $4,000 mark today, a move likely driven by:
→ Weakness in the US dollar index – or a pullback from the resistance level discussed in yesterday’s DXY analysis.
→ Concerns over the ongoing US government shutdown – according to media reports, one consequence has been that American airlines began limiting ticket sales in November.
Technical Analysis of XAU/USD
On 28 October, our analysis of gold price movements showed the following:
→ We constructed an ascending channel (marked in blue), illustrating the metal’s remarkable rally from its August low.
→ We suggested that the developing pullback might target the QL line, reinforced by the round-number support at $3,900.
This support zone successfully held, forming a local bottom at point B, after which the price entered a period of consolidation, resembling a symmetrical triangle pattern.
Notably, gold has today broken upward through this triangle (outlined in black). In the broader context, this breakout represents a strong signal from the bulls, suggesting a possible resumption of the 2025 uptrend.
If buying momentum continues, their strength may be tested by:
→ Resistance at $4,045;
→ Resistance near $4,150, which aligns with the 50% retracement of the A→B decline and has previously acted as a reversal zone for XAU/USD.
