The Who
πŸ“€ Quadrophenia
#Rock #HardRock #ProgressiveRock #RockOpera

50 years ago The Who from London, #UK released their 6th studio album.

Issued as a double album, Quadrophenia is a Concept Rock Opera entirely written by Pete Townshend: set in London and Brighton in 1965, it tells the story of a young "mod" named Jimmy and his search for self-worth and importance.

A film version of Quadrophenia directed by Franc Roddam came out in 1979: it was a commercial and critical success, crucial for the Mod Revival movement of the late 1970s / early 1980s.

The Who
πŸ“€ Tommy
#Rock #HardRock #ProtoProg #ProgressiveRock

55 years ago, on πŸ‘‰ Pete Townshend's birthday, The Who from London #UK, released their 4th studio album.

Tommy is considered the first #RockOpera in history! Townshend started working on it since their previous πŸ‘‰ 1967 concept album, also trying to translate in music the spiritual teachings of πŸ‘‰ Meher Baba (of whom he was a follower).

Issued as a double album, Tommy was a critical and commercial success and was performed live during iconic festivals such as Woodstock, Isle of Wight, University of Leeds.
The album contains #TheWho signature singles "Pinball Wizard", "I'm Free", "See Me, Feel Me/Listening To You" (the latter inserted in various parts of Tommy and sublimated as closing track)❀️‍πŸ”₯

Genesis
πŸ“€ The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
#ProgressiveRock #ArtRock

50 years ago Genesis from Surrey, England, #UK released their 6th studio album.

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a concept album about a guy from New York who is afraid of death, love and sex and sees them all through his complex journey.
It was initially intended as a #RockOpera, but recordings were not easy due to tensions within the band as Peter Gabriel temporarily left to work with filmmaker William Friedkin. Most of the songs were therefore developed by the rest of the band even if Gabriel wanted to write all the lyrics.

It ended up to be #Genesis last album with Peter Gabriel. Shame because it is widely regarded as the highest peak in Gabriel vocal performance, he also asked #BrianEno to add synthesized effects on his voice on several tracks (credited as "Enossification").

In any case a fantastic album from start to finish ❀️‍πŸ”₯
