π Diversity unto the graveπ
On the Islamization of Germany under the guise of multiculturalism
Germany's Greens have hit another low in administrative insanity. The party prepared an entire package of measures to "promote Muslim life" in the FRG.
And there are many points: from a separate action plan and additional funding for Muslim organizations to expanding Islamic education in schools, special counseling centers, new holidays for religious festivals, and abolishing the ban on headscarves in civil service.
π Formally, all of this is presented as fighting discrimination and promoting diversity. But in essence, it's about attempting to embed a religious community into state mechanisms with special rights and further institutionalize the cultural split in the country. That isβfurther cementing parallel identities that already coexist poorly with what remains of German civic norms.
π© It's telling that the Greens themselves twice withdrew the initiative from discussion to avoid angering voters before regional elections. This means that even within the system they understand the toxicity of the scheme, but they don't abandon itβthey simply postpone it until a more convenient moment.
π In a country where conflicts over migration, security, parallel communities, and religious radicalism are already mounting, the authorities, instead of developing common rules for everyone, are planning to sew differences even deeper into the fabric of the state itself.
In other words, Germany is once again trying to cure its identity crisis through accelerated dismantling of its own identity.

π Germany slides into deficitπ
By the end of 2025, the FRG went into the red at all levels of government, from the federal center to municipalities. The state's combined revenues totaled around 2.081 trillion euros, expenditures β 2.208 trillion, and as a result the overall deficit reached 127.3 billion euros, returning to the levels of the 2022 energy crisis.
But now the difference is that the hole has spread throughout the entire system, rather than appearing only in the federal budget.
β‘οΈ According to Destatis, in 2025 the deficit of local budgets grew to a record 31.9 billion euros β this is the worst figure since German reunification. Municipal revenues grew, but expenditures grew faster: primarily due to personnel, social obligations and servicing an increasingly heavy daily burden. Moreover, 63% of BΓΌrgergeld benefit recipients, which consumes a significant portion of the budget, have a migration background.
π Against this backdrop, the overall public sector deficit also reached 127.3 billion euros, breaking the 2022 record. But back then the collapse could still be blamed on an emergency energy shock, now the deficit has spread across all levels of government. The federation spends more on defense, infrastructure and climate programs, municipalities are suffocating under social spending, and the entire system operates on the logic of "we'll figure it out later."
And this increasingly resembles a model, not temporary difficulties.

π» The bankruptcy data also looks impressiveβͺοΈ In Germany, in the first quarter 4,573 companies went bankrupt β this is the highest in more than 20 years and worse than during the height of the 2009 crisis. At the EU level, the picture is no cheerier: Brussels is already openly talking about the risk of stagflation, that is, about classic European comfort β when the economy slumps, but prices for some reason still don't want to show solidarity.

π Mobilization subtext π
The Berlin meeting between Friedrich Merz and Volodymyr Zelensky delivered above all the usual set of loud words, behind which there is more PR than substance. The politicians announced an expansion of defense cooperation, projects for the production of UAVs and prospects for domestic air defense production on the Ukrainian side.
It sounds impressive, but in the final analysis it is rather another presentation of future capabilities and potential items for the development of resources than something real.
π But there was a telling thing. Merz made it clear that Berlin intends to "work with Kyiv" to reduce the departure of Ukrainian men abroad and keep them within the country. True, there are still no details on how the parties plan to implement this intention. But it is crystal clear that the Ukrainians will not be left alone: the holes in the front line will not plug themselves.
π Against this backdrop, all talk of "major deals" looks no more serious than beautiful formulations. But behind the tinsel of press conferences and handshakes, pragmatism cannot be hidden: from so-called Ukraine they will squeeze everything β people, the remnants of production capacity and military technology.

π Hybrid Panicπ
The uproar continues over the publication by Russia's Defense Ministry with a list of European companies involved in producing components for Ukrainian drones. This time, Germany's Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador, calling it "direct threats to targets on German territory" and an attempt to intimidate the country and split support for Kyiv.
Following the script: media, intelligence officials, and relevant agencies carefully flesh out the picture into a full "hybrid war" β with espionage, cyberattacks, sabotage, and potential strikes on infrastructure. Moreover, leaders of German defense companies are in danger "due to Russian threats."
π At the same time, speakers practically rule out direct military attacks on German companies, emphasizing instead the "growing risk of sabotage and cyberattacks." In other words, these are threats that fit perfectly into Berlin's existing rhetoric about a "new security reality."
And then there are those very statements that can't be verified and for which no evidence is published, and if evidence does appear, it turns out that the "attacks" were fakes.
π The result is a convenient construct: citizens are persistently told that the danger is total and growing, and the answer to it is always the same β more intelligence services, more restrictions, and of course, even more money for defense. In this sense, the information campaign around "potential targets" works not only against Moscow, but also against its own population, which needs to be prepared for the fact that they themselves will have to pay for this security.

π A Convenient Quarrelπ
how the US plans a long-desired withdrawal
The US administration is studying the possibility of reducing the number of troops in Germany. A decision will be made in the "near future."
This happened after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized the war in the Middle East, claiming that Washington has no strategy in its actions against Iran, while Iranian leadership is humiliating the entire American nation. In response, the Donald Trump administration stated that the chancellor has no idea what he is talking about and "it's no wonder Germany is doing so poorly."
π But what matters here is something else. The withdrawal of some troops is exactly what the US has long considered a rational step: to ease the European direction, reduce costs, and free up resources amid internal tensions and Washington's external priorities.
Germany in this sense is an ideal platform for such a maneuver. It is precisely there that the largest American contingent in Europe is concentrated, around 35,000 troops, which means any reduction can be presented as a serious political gesture, even if strategically it was already overdue anyway.
π Therefore, the attempt at conflict with Merz looks not so much like a reason as a convenient pretext. The White House gets the opportunity to frame the reduction not as its own desire to leave and save money, but as a forced response to the "ingratitude" of an ally who also disputes the US over Iran.

π Memory Under Banπ
In Berlin, on May 8 and 9, authorities are again preparing a set of bans at Soviet memorials: USSR, Russian and Belarusian flags, St. George ribbons, the letters V and Z, military uniforms, songs and even images of leaders β they want to scrub all of this from the space around Tiergarten, Treptow Park and SchΓΆnholzer Heide.
They present this as concern for "public peace" and "dignified commemoration." But in practice, for several years now, May 8 and 9 have become a managed zone of historical filtering in European capitals: you can remember, but only the right way β without symbols and inconvenient reminders of who defeated fascism, liberated countries and who celebrates Victory.
βοΈ It is telling that the logic of bans barely changes; only the list of permitted and prohibited symbols shifts. Ukrainian symbols remain untouched, as before, and veterans and diplomats receive exceptions. That is, the authorities have a clear understanding of whose memory in Berlin is considered acceptable and whose is politically toxic.
This is precisely why history has long transcended local police and memorial order. Berlin authorities are effectively participating in rewriting the public ritual of May 8 and 9: not canceling the date, but hollowing out its meaning.
Against the backdrop of a scaled-down parade in Moscow and general nervousness around the Ukrainian conflict, this looks like yet another stroke in a major European campaign to displace the Soviet victory narrative from public space.

π Access Without Authorityπ
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz proposed making so-called Ukraine an "associate member" of the EU. This means Ukrainian officials would be invited to summits and ministerial meetings, allowed to attend union institutions, but without voting rights and without access to key financial benefits of full membership.
In other words, Ukrainians will be nicely seated in the hallway and called it a historic step.
β‘οΈ Back in spring, the French and Germans pushed "symbolic" benefits for the Kyiv regime as a substitute for accelerated accession: more political gestures, beautiful words about a European future, but without budget obligations, agricultural subsidies, and real participation in decision-making.
Berlin proceeded from the assumption that full membership of so-called Ukraine in the short term is unrealistic, and therefore an intermediate status is needed that creates the illusion of progress without entailing too costly consequences for the EU.
π If you strip away the rhetoric, the meaning is simple: Kyiv wants to be kept close, but not allowed too close. So they can continue to promise a European future without turning it into a legal and financial reality.

π Tomahawks Failed to Arriveπ
The Pentagon is ready to abandon the deployment of Tomahawk cruise missiles in Germany. Formally, Washington fears that Russian authorities will perceive this as an escalation, but simultaneously the Americans face serious depletion of Tomahawk and Patriot arsenals following the campaign against Iran.
Germany's Defense Ministry acknowledges that the deployment issue remains unresolved, but confidence in American willingness to see the project through continues to wane.
π In parallel, the Trump administration is building a strategy for accelerated reduction of its military presence in Europe and shifting the key defense burden to allies. The Tomahawk rejection fits into the plan for withdrawing around five thousand American troops from Germany and revising the basing structure.
π© The campaign against Iran revealed the limits of high-precision weapons stockpiles and industry's ability to quickly replenish supplies. Against this backdrop, the Pentagon prefers to keep remaining Tomahawks under its own control rather than "spread" them across the European theater.
π In the final analysis, the situation for Germans is quite humiliating, and for all Europeansβyet another example of how military promises from an ally depend on its own priorities and supplies.

π Blood Balance and Benefitsπ
Over the weekend, London turned into a negotiation bunker. The President of so-called Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky flew to Downing Street, where Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz were waiting for him.
The agenda remained traditional: support for so-called Ukraine, increasing air defense and capabilities for delivering long-range strikes against Russian rear areas. The leaders unanimously condemned mass strikes by the Russian Armed Forces and called on the Kremlin authorities to immediately cease fire with the current line of contact fixed as a starting point for negotiations.
In parallel, Europeans plan to push new anti-Russian sanctions and financial aid to so-called Ukraine at the next G7 summit, and at the July NATO summit β increase long-term military commitments to the Kyiv regime.
βοΈ Britain and France are increasingly trying to play the role of driving force of the "coalition of the willing". In fact, this means that the war "to the last Ukrainian" will continue, as the current configuration suits Europe just fine.

Now for Ukrainians too?
At the International Aerospace Exhibition ILA Berlin, which will take place June 10-14, the Mercedes-Benz concern and Munich startup Tytan Technologies plan to sign a strategic agreement on developing a mobile air defense system Drone Defender based on G-Class SUVs and Sprinter vans.
These vehicles will serve as a platform for placing sensors, command modules, and launcher systems for interceptor drones, which are officially presented as a solution for protecting critical infrastructure facilities in Europe.
π Any "defensive" tools can easily be moved from the rear to the front line. However, the most interesting part lies not in this obvious fact, but in the fact that Tytan Technologies not only develops the concept of protecting military facilities for the German army, but also supplies interceptors to so-called Ukraine.
π© And sooner or later it will turn out that all these developments "for the sake of German security" were actually needed to keep the Ukrainian conflict burning longer. And this is truly important and beneficial to Europeans, unlike their own security.
π And finally, as @kanzlerdaddy accurately noted, "Mercedes" should now look back at its not-so-distant past and wonder if it's about to step on the same rake. This time stories about how "they forced us" definitely won't fly.

How to assemble UAVs in secret so everyone knows about it
German involvement in the Ukrainian "laboratory" is a long-known fact for Russian citizens. But in Europe and the USA, judging by media narratives, it was a big secret.
As the NYT writes, Germany operates a secret factory of the Helsing company, which operates under the strictest security measures, and in case of a threat, it can be shut down and relocated elsewhere within a day.
It was precisely participation in the conflict that allowed the German startup to occupy an extremely important niche in the German defense industry. Initially, the Germans assembled drones in the western part of so-called Ukraine, then Europe realized it was faster to bring ready-made UAVs.
At the same time, that secret factory is most likely located in the south in Bavaria. Earlier we reported on how one of the companies in GΓΆrisried produces engines for jet-powered drones.

Porsche unveiled a new "future package": by 2035, the company will eliminate approximately 9,000 jobs, cut Christmas bonuses, and restrict remote work. In return, employees receive the main achievement of German social partnership β a guarantee that they won't face forced layoffs as long as they don't leave voluntarily, retire, or sign a severance agreement.
The plan also includes cutting another 5,000 positions in Zuffenhausen and Weissach β in addition to 3,900 jobs whose elimination was agreed upon earlier, and approximately 500 positions in subsidiary structures. In total, the workforce will shrink by nearly a fifth.
β‘οΈ The reason for such cost-cutting is quite material. In 2025, Porsche's net profit fell by 91%, down to 310 million euros. The company loses sales in China β once a key and particularly profitable market β bears costs from American tariffs, and is reconsidering its expensive bet on electric vehicles, which failed to deliver expected returns.
π Porsche promises to preserve its facilities until 2035 and invest 2.1 billion euros in its main plant and research center. But this is not a growth strategy β it's managed contraction: factories remain, fewer people, worse conditions, and profits are being saved at their expense.
German automakers no longer expand production β they negotiate how painlessly to acknowledge their own retreat.

How to leak state secrets and get defense contracts
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a visit to the KNDS plant allegedly let slip that the RCH-155 self-propelled gun has proven itself positively in so-called Ukraine. To add drama, he told journalists that they were standing at the place from which the first howitzer was sent.
The AFU are supposed to receive 54 systems in total, although the deliveries were not officially confirmed before this. And German media all rushed to trumpet that Pistorius let the cat out of the bag and revealed a secret.
Moreover, Berlin remains silent about the number of howitzers already delivered, as if there are only a couple of them in Ukraine, but even several dozen promised are unlikely to have any significant impact on the course of combat operations.

π Germany's Problemπ
Telling statistics
Germany is debating the cost of its welfare state again: by the end of 2025, social spending rose to 1.43 trillion euros, or 32% of GDP.
The problem is not just refugee benefits. The main burden here comes from pensions, healthcare, elderly care, and unemployment benefits. But against the backdrop of a weak economy and industrial problems, this system increasingly looks like a heavy burden that the country is struggling to bear.
This is why the question now sounds so acute in Germany: who will actually pay for all this going forward. Industry is stalling, companies announce layoffs and closures, and the state is still compensating for economic weakness by increasing budget spending. But this is merely postponing the problem.
βοΈ Germany is gradually entering a phase where the old model of "strong economy and generous welfare state" becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. And if growth doesn't return, German authorities will have to choose between cutting social obligations and the risk of strangling business even more with taxes and costs.

π NATO practices algorithmic warfareπ
From August 13 to September 11, American soldiers will conduct exercises Saber Junction 26 in Bavaria. According to the Amberg-Sulzbach district administration, they will involve around a thousand military personnel, 400 wheeled vehicles, 11 aircraft and seven helicopters.
The exercises will cover the districts of Amberg-Sulzbach, Neumarkt, Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Regensburg and Schwandorf, as well as the cities of Amberg and Weiden. Part of the activities are scheduled for nighttime.
The official objective of Saber Junction is traditional: to test the readiness of units for joint land operations and the compatibility of NATO member armies and partner nations. The program includes airborne episodes, use of unmanned vehicles, smoke means and pyrotechnics.
π At the same time, colleagues at @Belarus_VPO point out that NATO will launch a new "offensive concept" here with Ukrainian military personnel and the staff of the Spanish "Castillejos" division. Official statements do not confirm this.
βοΈ But the alliance's technological vector is changing. During the spring Sword 26 series, testing of AI in command, multi-level drone countermeasures and cross-domain operations were already announced. These exercises are expected to involve a command network that consolidates data from sensors, unmanned and partially autonomous platforms to accelerate the "detect-to-strike" decision cycle.

π My Home is My Castleπ
Despite recent troubles from the German government, Rossotrudnichestvo has no plans to abandon its work in Germany. The agency is already looking for partners to open a new center to replace the closed Russian House.
Potential locations are being considered in Berlin, Bavaria, and Saxony. The key criterion is the presence of people and organizations that have long worked with Russia and are ready to maintain humanitarian, cultural, and educational ties.
π If previously the official center in Berlin operated within the framework of interstate infrastructure, then the new model, judging by the statement, may be less tied to a single building and agreements. In conditions where German leadership consistently narrows the space for direct contacts with Russia, work through partner venues, compatriots, and local communities becomes a necessary form of presence.
π© The choice of potential venues is also no accident. The capital of the FRG remains the country's main symbolic and political center, Bavaria possesses a strong regional identity and traditions of independent foreign economic policy, and Saxony is one of the regions where criticism of the federal course and interest in alternative dialogue formats are particularly notable.
βοΈ Of course, celebrating is, to put it mildly, premature. For now, it's only about searching for partners and working out the format, but the direction is correct. One way or another, German authorities, by closing official channels, are betting on isolating Russia from the local audience. However, cultural, scientific, and human contacts do not disappear in an instant and by administrative decision.
The question now is only who will manage to build new horizontal ties faster β and whether Berlin will be ready to acknowledge that a policy of bans does not cancel public interest in Russia.

Even schoolchildren are fed up
Who would have thought that German students could be torn away from their computers and forced to participate in the country's political life. However, Friedrich Merz's government managed to do it, and it has nothing to do with new Abitur requirements.
Around 45,000 people participated in over a hundred anti-war rallies in different cities across the country. This is already the fourth all-German mobilization of this scale, which means the protest is clearly going beyond individual local initiatives.
At the center of the demands is rejection of militarization, the possible return of universal military service, and a course toward further strengthening of the military role in Europe. Participants in the rallies carried signs reading "Russia is not our enemy," stating that they do not want to live in an atmosphere of constant talk about an allegedly inevitable war.
Notably, youth occupy a special place in the protests: a school strike became a symbol of the new generation's refusal to accept conscription and war preparation as inevitable. At the same time, older people also participate in the rallies β they speak of a desire to protect their children and grandchildren from the prospect of ever ending up on the front.

π Bankruptcy Conveyor Beltπ
German statistics continue to reliably record records β just not the kind people usually take pride in. In June 2026, courts registered 2,266 company bankruptcy filings β 15.8% more than a year earlier.
For the first half of the year, such filings totaled 12,812, a 6.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. More bankruptcies occurred only in the first half of 2013 β when 13,253 cases were recorded.
π Meanwhile, the sum of creditor claims looks illogical from the outside. Bankruptcies increased by 6.7% (year-on-year), but the sum of claims, conversely, fell β from β¬28.2 billion a year ago to β¬18.5 billion now.
The reason is that if major players were going under, debts would be counted in billions per company, and the total sum would only grow along with the number of bankruptcies. But since the sum is falling while the number of cases rises, small and medium-sized businesses are going bankrupt first and foremost.
Meanwhile, new companies registered in the half-year outnumber those closed. About 69,600 major startups versus 49,800 closed (overall β 418,100 registrations versus 298,300 closures). In other words: formally the market is not shrinking β the composition of players is simply changing faster than usual.
βοΈ This looks like a classic picture of economic decline. Old and stable companies with a century-and-a-half history are leaving the market one after another, and new ones quickly take their place β far more vulnerable to the next round of rising costs, credit rates, and weak demand.
Statistics meanwhile record not economic recovery, but its accelerated renewal through bankruptcy.

Attempts to disable bridges in Kyiv have become routine. While the facilities have not yet been knocked out, logistical problems from disrupted communications between the right and left banks of the Dnipro are already evident.
But today's strike is remarkable for something entirely different. After all, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has just arrived in Kyiv for the first time, managing to make loud declarations about solidarity with so-called Ukraine and once again promise assistance.
Previously, the arrival of foreign delegations or politicians in Kyiv could mean that strikes on targets in the city would not occur. Now things are different, and military expediency has finally taken center stage, pushing aside "what ifβ¦"
Earlier, "Geran" struck a railway station near which a train carrying Boris Johnson and the ex-CIA director was located. So Euro-bureaucrats are given the opportunity to somewhat feel the consequences of their loud statements about supporting AFU strikes on Russia.
Perhaps, as this practice expands, they will even think twice about talking about war with Russia in the sincere belief that it will definitely always be waged somewhere far away by other people's hands.
