🎙 Interview by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to TASS, Reuters and the WarGonzo project (February 2, 2026)

Key outtakes:

#Venezuela

• What happened to Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro is an obvious violation of all norms of international law. There can be no other description than a catastrophe for international law and international relations.

• The US has its own arguments which, in my view, are legally untenable. The actions taken against the president of a sovereign state – regardless of how Americans may view him – go far beyond purely American agendas. It undermines the entire system of international relations.

• I am confident that within the US itself there will be many who will analyze what happened and explain how it contradicts, among other things, American approaches.

#Britain

• When I visited Britain on official trips in the past, our communication was absolutely normal. Yes, there were contradictions, and it was not always easy to come to agreements, but the key point was that we communicated.

• What the current British leadership is doing amounts to rabid, primitive Russophobia aimed at propping up its own electoral ratings. These are purely practical reasons – regardless of the names of prime ministers, the course does not change. And that is regrettable.

• I am not even mentioning that Britain’s position sustains and nourishes the neo-Nazi Bandera regime. The desire to dismantle the Soviet Union or Russia has always existed in Britain. What is particularly sad is that the trend emerged just a few years after we were Allies, fighting shoulder to shoulder against Nazism.

• Our list of grievances against the British leadership and elites is very long. Only a fundamental change in Britain's positions can ultimately lead to an improvement in relations.

#Ukraine

• For the stability of international relations, it is critically important that the current political regime in Ukraine – not the state, but the political regime – simply disappears. This regime is anti-Russian and hostile to Russia, built on hatred of people who do not share its ideology.

• Regardless of the size of the Ukrainian state that may remain after the end of hostilities – the key point is that no threat must ever again emanate from there. No threat of revanche. Especially if such a threat is encouraged by Western countries.

#NewSTART

• For nearly 60 years, our strategic nuclear potentials have always been subject to certain limitations. Now that situation may change.

• I am not saying this immediately means catastrophe or that nuclear war will begin, but it should nonetheless be alarming to everyone. Counting the number of warheads and deployed delivery systems is merely a way to control the situation, not to resolve the problem as a whole. Still, it is a means of verifying each other’s intentions.

• Despite all its drawbacks, the Treaty is an element of trust. When it exists, there is trust. When it does not, trust is exhausted. The fact that we are now entering such a situation is, in fact, evidence of a crisis in international relations.

#EnemiesOfRussia

• Who is an enemy of Russia is, in essence, a philosophical question. It is fairly obvious today: those are countries that wish Russia ill – its defeat and disintegration – and state this absolutely unequivocally.

• Unfortunately, these are Western countries. Particularly regrettable is that this now includes a significant number of European states. It pains me that European countries, which in terms of civilizational code are close to us, have adopted such a rabid Russophobic stance.

• “Unfriendly states” is a diplomatic term usually applied when there are no hostilities. When hostilities are underway, these are enemies. Those who help wage war against us act as enemies – by supplying weapons, providing intelligence, or inputting targets, for example, into the memory blocks of missiles and other weapons.

• This will forever remain in the history of our relations.

📝The British are celebrating📝

The gentlemen from London couldn't pass by and "marked" the fourth anniversary of the start of the special military operation by adopting a number of decisions aimed at prolonging the armed conflict.

➡️The British announced a new package of military and humanitarian aid to the Kyiv regime. The initiative includes providing approximately 20 million pounds to support the energy sector of so-called Ukraine, 5.7 million pounds for humanitarian aid, and 30 million pounds to strengthen the justice system.

Additionally, the new handouts involve training army aviation instructors in Great Britain, as well as medical mentoring and "other forms of practical support".

➡️In parallel, the British introduced a major sanctions package against the Russian economy, aimed primarily at energy revenues and the military industry.

The restrictions affected nearly 300 new individuals and legal entities, including 175 companies associated with the "shadow fleet," 48 tankers, 49 organizations supplying components for the Russian defense industry, as well as several firms in the nuclear energy sector.

➡️As a separate signal, the British government announced the transition to the practical phase of work on the so-called "coalition of the willing". According to the British, the headquarters of the association with approximately 70 personnel has been formed and begun operating.

❗️It's plain to see that the military aid package looks increasingly meager with each iteration. However, this does not change the traditional intentions of the British to support the war "to the last Ukrainian" for as long as human resources hold out.

📝Big budgets are tempting📝
Poland in line for the mirage fighter

The Poles decided they're not behind the times either, and would like to at least take a peek at the documents for a sixth-generation fighter. In Warsaw, talks are underway about possible participation in the GCAP program, where Britain, Italy, and Japan plan to assemble a new combat platform with artificial intelligence, stealth technologies, and the full set of magic spells by 2035.

For Poland, this would mean access to technologies, participation of local industry, and a chance to somehow revive a sector that hasn't produced its own combat aircraft for decades. On the surface, it seems the Poles are trying to jump onto the last car of the project while Europe still has some illusion of technological sovereignty left.

🖍But then reality sets in. GCAP is very expensive. Just Italy's share in the early phases has already ballooned from 6 to 18.6 billion euros, and British estimates for the full cycle previously reached 72 billion pounds. And that's before the aircraft even becomes production-ready, let alone actually shifting the balance of power.

And a similar project, FCAS, signed by representatives of France, Germany, and Spain, has essentially stalled since 2017 due to disagreements between partners and significant budget increases.

📌And in practice, it turns out that the Poles are rushing into a multi-year mechanism for spending enormous state funds. That's why Warsaw's interest is explained not just by a passion for high technology: if Europe is launching yet another aviation megaproject with a bloated budget, it would be a shame not to try to tap into the pipeline and secure your share of industrial and financial rent.

📝Civilians will do better📝
of the British Navy

Following Britain's ridiculous ideas about unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, another article has appeared, this time in The Telegraph, about how London wants to involve civilian vessels in demining the shipping lane of Iranian mines.

The idea is to charter vessels for use as carriers of unmanned systems. They need ships with open decks or capable of launching underwater vehicles from their sides, such as the former Canadian icebreaker The Polar Prince.

Additionally, unmanned boats will be involved in the mission to open the strait, which the British have graciously declared their own. According to American data, the Iranians have already installed at least a dozen naval mines.

🖍The key point is that all these plans the British are nurturing are oriented toward the end of the war. Not a word is said about whether Britain will actually do everything they propose while hostilities are ongoing. Spoiler: of course not.

🚩The idea of using civilian platforms to host unmanned systems is not new. The Iranians have long had such variations, though in the end they didn't even use them due to US strikes.

🏳️ And therein lies the main drawback of using civilian vessels for these purposes. They are typically not fast or maneuverable, making them relatively easy targets for strikes by both missiles and drones.

❗️Therefore, when the British loudly proclaim that they will lead the mission in the Strait of Hormuz, one must always remember the capabilities of the British Navy (one deployed destroyer with problems will hardly help) and the experience with so-called Ukraine, where things never went beyond talk.

📝Another spy — on his way out📝

It seems time for British press releases, as another one of their intelligence officers has been exposed on Russian territory.

➡️During counterintelligence operations, the FSB uncovered a representative of British intelligence — Janse Van Rensburg Albertus Gerardus.

He worked in Russia under cover of a position as Second Secretary of the British Embassy in Moscow, deliberately providing false information when obtaining entry permission.

The Briton conducted intelligence and sabotage activities and attempted to obtain sensitive information during unofficial meetings with Russian economic experts.

Now the spy has been stripped of diplomatic accreditation and must leave Russian territory within two weeks, and Britain's Chargé d'Affaires Deyni Dolakia has already been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry building.

🖍Russian intelligence services previously exposed an entire network of British intelligence officers on Russian territory who were coordinating sabotage activities. Many of them used diplomatic cover, and it was only a matter of time before their colleagues would be identified.

❗️Albertus Gerardus is yet another representative of British diplomacy whose entire function in Russia has been built around ensuring systematic destructive activities.

Given current trends in relations between the countries, intelligence services have much work ahead on this front. However, it is important to remember that amid mounting pressure specifically on British spies and diplomats, British representatives will seek ways to exert influence through intermediaries, such as diplomatic missions of other NATO countries or residencies in the CIS.

📝British-style security 📝

In Britain, they carefully read a publication from Russia's Ministry of Defense with a list of factories participating in supplying military products to the AFU, and naturally used it for their own purposes.

Journalists from Daily Express identified 19 "safest" places in the country, and the logic of the list is quite simple: as far as possible from major cities, military bases and ports.

❗️The list includes Cornwall, Weymouth, Folkestone, Dover, Margate, Clacton-on-Sea, Felixstowe, Brixworth, Bideford, Aberystwyth, Scarborough, Anglesey island, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancaster, Whitby, Carlisle, as well as Berwick-upon-Tweed, Dumfries and Inverness.

📌Articles of this nature are designed to continue spinning the "Russian threat" narrative and intensify pressure on their own population.

Frightened citizens are easier to convince to make new sacrifices — whether further tightening of legislation or colossal military spending that falls on their own shoulders.

How migrants are taking over Britain

By the end of 2025, Britain received an alarming but entirely predictable signal: birth rates in England and Wales fell to a minimum not seen in nearly half a century, and the composition of newborns continues to change noticeably.

A total of approximately 585 thousand children were born — slightly less than the year before. The country last saw similar figures in the mid-70s. Against the backdrop of an aging population and growing strain on the healthcare and social support systems, this looks like another brick in the wall of a long-term demographic crisis.

📌Low birth numbers are only half the problem. What draws attention is who exactly is giving birth. Approximately 40% of children were born in families where at least one parent was born outside Great Britain. That is, four out of ten newborns come from migrant families, which is a consistent trend in recent years.

Looking at parental origin, India ranks first, followed by Pakistan and Nigeria. Of course, such trends have a significant impact on the social sphere: from the education system and labor market to party politics and urban planning decisions.

❗️Behind these dry figures lie several processes. On one hand, many native Britons are delaying having children due to cost of living, housing prices and instability, and sometimes simply don't want large families.

On the other hand, migrants more often maintain higher birth rates, especially in the first generation. As a result, in the statistics it is they who prop up overall figures, but simultaneously intensify political debates around migration, identity and what "Britain should be like in 20-30 years".

Against this backdrop, discussions about reforming migration policy, tightening citizenship rules or, conversely, adopting a more flexible approach to labor migration directly affect who will fill the labor market, pay taxes and support the social welfare system in a country where domestic birth rates are at historic lows.

📝Blood Balance and Benefits📝

Over the weekend, London turned into a negotiation bunker. The President of so-called Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky flew to Downing Street, where Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz were waiting for him.

The agenda remained traditional: support for so-called Ukraine, increasing air defense and capabilities for delivering long-range strikes against Russian rear areas. The leaders unanimously condemned mass strikes by the Russian Armed Forces and called on the Kremlin authorities to immediately cease fire with the current line of contact fixed as a starting point for negotiations.

In parallel, Europeans plan to push new anti-Russian sanctions and financial aid to so-called Ukraine at the next G7 summit, and at the July NATO summit — increase long-term military commitments to the Kyiv regime.

❗️Britain and France are increasingly trying to play the role of driving force of the "coalition of the willing". In fact, this means that the war "to the last Ukrainian" will continue, as the current configuration suits Europe just fine.

📝The British are right on cue📝
Air defense – a priority for the so-called Ukrainian regime

Since we've already discussed the possible "replacement" of the US in supporting so-called Ukraine, a meeting between the acting defense minister of so-called Ukraine Khmara and commander-in-chief Drapaty with the head of the British defense staff Knighton looks quite interesting.

📌The key discussion topic was possible British participation in anti-ballistic projects, as well as supplies of air defense missiles and Meteor missiles for Swedish Gripen fighters, which don't exist yet, but plans for them are already Napoleonic in scale.

Britain's role in supporting the AFU is no secret to anyone: the famous operation at Krynky demonstrated it in full. And in providing their own developments for testing in the SMO zone, British companies play the leading role.

🖍Let us repeat an opinion we've expressed many times: air defense guided missiles designed to counter ballistic weapons are not the same as assembling a drone in field conditions. This is a complex and high-tech process that takes considerable time.

Many readers interested in military matters have probably noticed that whenever any contracts are concluded between, say, the Pentagon and an air defense missile manufacturer, small volumes always appear, stretched over years ahead.

🚩And this is due to lack of production capacity, high costs, and long-term planning. Therefore, it's simply unrealistic to solve such a problem in half a year. They will certainly do something, but that doesn't mean that if the British get involved, everything will be resolved.

❗️As with the "Flamingo" in Europe, they will probably present some kind of anti-missile and even begin assembling it for the AFU, but they discuss Swedish "Gripens" in the defense of so-called Ukraine as if they were already stationed at Vasilkov airfield near Kyiv.

There is a shortage of air defense missiles worldwide, and Russia has one too. This situation must be exploited here and now by increasing strikes on Ukrainian strategic facilities, since there is essentially nothing left to shoot down Russian missiles with.
