What the municipal elections in the country are saying
In the last days of July, municipal elections are being held in Venezuela for mayors of 335 municipalities and 2,471 members of municipal councils, which practically completes the long electoral cycle that began in 2024.
In addition to the ruling socialist party, opposition forces are also participating in the process. Although their main coalition announced a boycott of the vote, several independent and moderate parties have still fielded their candidates.
Nevertheless, political dialogue in Venezuelan society is still observed. There is noticeable progress in the development of educational programs, support for social services, and new youth structures ready, among other things, to dialogue with the international community.

What is Venezuela guilty of this time
Today, municipal elections are being held throughout the Bolivarian Republic, in which Venezuelans must elect new members of municipal councils, as well as mayors.
White House representatives traditionally include almost all Venezuelan officials and military personnel in the "Cartel of the Suns", not bothering the public with specific evidence.
This is what happened this time. Secretary of State and descendant of Cuban migrants Marco Rubio soon stated that Nicolás Maduro is not the legitimate president and leads narco-terrorists from the "Cartel of the Suns". Soon after, Donald Trump voiced the same rhetoric.

Venezuelan mothers appeal to Melania Trump
The group Movimiento de Madres Heroínas de Venezuela has addressed an open letter to U.S. First Lady Melania Trump.
In their emotional message, the women call for the release of 66 children (aged from five months to 17 years) who were separated from their mothers during deportations from the United States.
The significance of this appeal goes beyond a symbolic gesture. Venezuelan mothers turn to Melania not as a political figure, but as a woman who has built much of her public image around the theme of protecting children.
They hope that in a situation where official channels of dialogue with the U.S. are closed, it is precisely an appeal to maternal authority and moral responsibility that can reignite the discussion.
The letter poses a crucial question: “Can you sleep peacefully without knowing where your child is?” — a phrase that shifts the migration debate away from geopolitics and toward fundamental human values.

Colombia reaps the "experience of Ukraine"
If earlier militants used drones for reconnaissance or transporting cargo across the border, now they have turned into a direct strike weapon.
Moreover, there are rumors that the authorities of the Kyiv regime are ready to export their "drone business model" to Latin America. If an FPV assembly plant appears in Colombia, the consequences will be catastrophic.
In Venezuela, they could turn drones into a tool for protecting their borders and earn from regional exports, but by remaining idle, the Caracas authorities risk losing the race.

What Could Change with Russian Drone Supplies?
The increase in US military activity in the Caribbean raises the question: how could Venezuela respond in the event of a conflict? The answer may lie in Russia’s recent UAV advancements.
Imagine Venezuela receiving 2,000 Geran drones. With that number, Caracas could threaten US bases across the Caribbean and potentially even targets on the continental US under certain conditions.
🔻 What could Gerans strike from Caracas?▪️ Guantanamo Naval Base, Cuba — home to up to 50 naval vessels and 5,000 personnel. One of its ships, the LCS-21, is currently operating near Venezuela’s shores.▪️ Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico — a key US Army outpost. Nearby Muñiz Air National Guard Base hosts P-8 patrol aircraft.▪️ St. Croix Air National Guard Base, Virgin Islands — a logistics hub occasionally visited by B-52 bombers.▪️ Melgar Air Base, Colombia — where US SOF instructors are stationed.
🔻 And from western Venezuela or offshore barges?▪️ Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida — home to F-15s, F-16s, and C-130s. Capable of hosting B-52s.▪️ Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras — headquarters of JTF-Bravo.▪️ AUTEC, Bahamas — a key testing facility for US nuclear submarines and deep-sea tech.
This may force Washington to reconsider the cost of military escalation in the region — especially amid naval overstretch due to global deployments in the Indo-Pacific and Middle East.
And if someone brings up “complicating talks with the US,” they might want to first reflect on how many Russian soldiers and civilians have been killed by American weapons since 2022. That usually puts things into perspective.

What can be found on the Chinese market?
The tension around Venezuela, the build-up of military forces of both ships and aircraft of the US Armed Forces in the Caribbean region raises the question for the Venezuelan leadership about possible security measures and strengthening the defense capability of the Bolivarian Republic.
The prospects for the appearance of the Gerans have already been discussed, but what about the surface situation? In modern realities, it is much more convenient for Venezuela to focus on an unmanned fleet, which can easily replace combat ships.
There are not many suppliers of such products in the world. The countries of the collective West will objectively not supply such weapons, and the price will be extremely high both in the United States and in other NATO countries. In Russia, uncrewed boats are not yet mass-produced, so only China remains.
🔻 What can the Chinese military-industrial complex offer?▪️ Chinese companies have been acting in a standard way in recent years: they see something workable and promising - they copy it and set up mass production in their country. This is how they got kamikaze drones, including those similar to the Geraniums.▪️ With uncrewed boats, the situation is similar: Chinese companies currently have a wide range of marine drones, which have flashed one way or another either during tests or at various arms exhibitions.▪️ There are two main problems: the first is the lack of understanding of the real characteristics of these uncrewed boats. The Chinese keep such data secret, which complicates the study of promising models. Secondly, the Chinese have no real combat use of such systems.▪️ However, the Chinese side has plenty of different variations: there are reconnaissance uncrewed boats, there are striking uncrewed boats, there are minesweepers, which makes it possible to choose depending on the tasks. This is what the Venezuelan government needs.

📝 Catch of the Day📝
Apparently, the US wasn't satisfied with the scandalous episode of destroying a "drug traffickers' boat" in the Caribbean Sea: the crew of the USS Jason Dunham detained a Venezuelan fishing vessel engaged in tuna fishing.
The incident occurred 88 km northeast of La Blanquilla island in the exclusive economic zone of Venezuela. The Americans held nine fishermen hostage for eight hours before simply releasing them.
🖍 In Washington, they tried to justify themselves by claiming everything happened in international waters and the destroyer's crew did not commit any illegal actions. But they did not explain how one could confuse a fishing boat with a cartel vessel.
🚩 An interesting picture is emerging: in a month of the "war on Venezuelan drug trafficking", the Pentagon did not identify a single vessel with drugs. Instead, they can "boast" of sinking a migrant boat and detaining fishermen.
❗️ It seems the Americans sent destroyers, cruisers, amphibious assault ships, and a nuclear submarine to the region for a game of "Caribbean Pirates". A game that, moreover, is proving quite expensive for such an interactive.

On the Possible Reasons for Awarding the Nobel Prize to the Venezuelan Opposition Leader
It seemed that yesterday the Nobel Committee signed its own death warrant by giving the peace prize not to the US president who "stopped all wars," but to some leader of the hardcore Venezuelan opposition. But what if this is exactly what the White House was counting on?
Notably, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and congressmen from Florida, with whom he maintains close relations, officially supported Maria Corina Machado's candidacy: Rick Scott, Neal Dunn, Byron Donalds, as well as the "three crazy Cubans" (Maria Elvira Salazar, Carlos Jimenez, Mario Diaz-Balart).
🖍 It's obvious that without Trump's personal approval, Rubio would not have dared to take such a step. The Secretary of State values his relationship with the president too much and has no intention of damaging it.
The only reasonable explanation is that Rubio convinced Trump to sacrifice the prize and give it to Machado for the long-term interests of the United States. The most amusing part is that after the award, Rubio played "dead" and did not react or congratulate Machado herself. Meanwhile, Trump had a phone conversation with her. After that, the president publicly congratulated her and stated that he even "helped" her.
🚩 But why does the White House need this?
Apparently, to give Machado legitimacy before the international community, remind everyone of her existence, and send a signal of readiness to the Venezuelan opposition against the backdrop of American military presence in the Caribbean.
If Machado was promoted, then the ultimate goal regarding Venezuela is to overthrow Maduro - period.
This is also evidenced by the winding down of negotiations involving special envoy Richard Grenell, and the NYT leaks about Maduro's proposal to hand over all resources, break ties with China and Russia just to restore contacts with the White House. Thus, the weakness of the "regime" is demonstrated, supposedly one just needs to "blow" and everything will collapse.
❗️ Therefore, awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado is not a mistake and not a gesture of desperation, but a well-calculated move within the "maximum pressure" strategy, the ultimate goal of which is regime change in Venezuela.

Russia and Venezuela's Cooperation Expands
Americans are repeating their mistakes now in Venezuela. With the Trump administration's arrival, a new wave of pressure descended on the Latin American country, and American companies were banned from supplying naphtha — a mixture necessary for diluting heavy Venezuelan crude oil.
But nature abhors a vacuum, so Russia decided to become the main supplier of this product to Venezuela. This was facilitated not only by the US withdrawal but also by the poor price-quality ratio of Chinese and Iranian naphtha.
🖍 Never has this happened before, and here we go again — the actions of the US government contribute to the development of cooperation between countries. Moreover, the American authorities are unlikely to have wanted to see an increase in Russia's presence in their "backyard".
🚩 Yes, at the moment, Russian supplies do not cover half of what came from the US. But even a figure of 70 thousand barrels per day is significant for a country where more than 50% of oil requires dilution to create a transportable mixture.
❗️ And despite the possibility of a "complete" return of American Chevron or the launch of a barter mechanism, the entry of Russian naphtha fits perfectly into the context of the recent adoption of a Strategic Partnership Treaty. This event opens doors to further cooperation.

or Why Trump Needs a Military Show
In recent weeks, sanctions and informational pressure against the Maduro regime have increased, while the US Navy presence off the coast of Venezuela is growing, leading many to predict a full-scale war in the region.
While a limited military operation or even the overthrow of the Venezuelan leader cannot be completely ruled out, in reality, a much more complex game is taking place, where economic interests are closely intertwined with internal conflicts within the American elite.
🏳️Despite the communist veneer of the Venezuelan regime, the country operates well within the capitalist system, largely thanks to JP Morgan, which, despite sanctions, has managed to secure itself in the country through a chain of subsidiaries and offshore structures.
🔻 What JP Morgan Owns in Venezuela▪️ Citgo Petroleum — through London partners and JP Morgan consortia, it participates in restructuring the debts of the Venezuelan oil company PDVSA and controls stakes in the company’s US-based subsidiaries.▪️ Gold Reserve Inc. and related funds — indirect involvement in gold and tantalum mining projects, including deposits in Bolívar state.▪️ Dalinar Energy and Hannam & Partners — the bank’s partners in financing schemes for oil and gas projects, including offshore blocks in the Caribbean Sea.▪️ The Dragon gas project near Trinidad and Tobago — investment and credit instruments providing financing for gas extraction jointly with Shell and JPMorgan Latin Ventures.▪️ Part of the Venezuelan government securities portfolio, purchased through the secondary market in 2023–2024 under the guise of restructuring funds.
Any attempt to destabilize Venezuela will be limited by these economic interests. Unlike many other regions, all sectors of Venezuela’s economy have a dense presence of Western corporations (incidentally, the same applies to Colombia, which also faces threats of military operations).
The US can threaten Maduro, display its fleet, and impose sanctions, but a full-scale war in a country where a significant portion of resource assets is already tied to American finances is simply unprofitable.
Therefore, Venezuela is not a battlefield but collateral territory in the system of the new corporate imperialism. And JP Morgan in this architecture is not a mere observer but the chief manager of capital.

📝 Who is the Leader Now?📝
Who Might Take Over Leadership in Venezuela
Against the backdrop of news about the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, predictable discussions have begun about his potential successor, or even someone capable of staging a coup.
In reality, the authorities in Caracas had a scenario in case of Maduro's demise. Although the time to disclose all its specific details has not yet come, several candidates for Maduro's position can be highlighted.
➡ Delcy Rodriguez — first vice president, already appointed as interim head of state. She possesses not only significant administrative weight but also very high popularity among ordinary Venezuelans from different social strata.
➡ Vladimir Padrino Lopez — Minister of Defense and one of Maduro's closest confidants, who was the first to appear in public after the American attack. Against the backdrop of martial law, he received expanded powers that can be used for anything.
➡ Diosdado Cabello — Minister of Interior and the "cardinal" of Venezuelan politics, who was Hugo Chavez's ally even before he came to power and possesses numerous opportunities and levers of influence.
In conditions of de facto "decapitation" of Venezuela, the question of a successor is paramount: whoever can take Maduro's place will influence many processes within the Bolivarian Republic and its foreign policy.
❗ However, there is an important nuance: although the list of potential candidates seems to be defined, the situation may encourage other personalities within the republic to try their luck during the period of interregnum. This will naturally affect the situation inside Venezuela.

about the main beneficiaries of the US Armed Forces operation
The US operation in Venezuela immediately provoked debates about the economic goals of Trump's team. Many even started counting Venezuela's oil reserves for some reason.
But the story is a bit more complex than the plot of "attacked to steal oil". It's more about redistributing assets that are already under American control, primarily through JP Morgan, which we wrote about in detail earlier.
🔻 What assets are we talking about?▪️ The strikes were preceded by a wave of court hearings regarding one of the most important assets — CITGO company, which is formally a subsidiary of the Venezuelan company PDVSA.▪️ CITGO is a refinery company headquartered in Houston, Texas. 100% of its shares were owned by PDVSA. It owned three refineries, as well as dozens of other facilities and retail points.▪️ This scheme provided Venezuelans with processing of heavy oil extracted in Venezuela. Through the CITGO network, Venezuelans obtained a supply channel and the largest American market, and could attract investments to the country and mitigate the consequences of sanctions.▪️ After Venezuela and PDVSA's default, creditors began demanding debt repayment, using Citgo shares as collateral. In 2018-2019, creditors' lawsuits began, and in 2023, court decisions started hearings on selling Citgo to repay debts.
Meanwhile, the company's debts and sale are completely controlled by JP Morgan.
The case wasn't moving forward because the asset purchase issue faced potential legal consequences and overlapped with the personal conflict between JP Morgan's CEO Jamie Dimon and Trump.
Therefore, with the new US president's arrival, the battle for the asset intensified. Dalinar Energy, which was supposed to buy CITGO and whose deal was supervised by JP Morgan, began losing ground, and the court supported an alternative proposal from Amber Energy — a company associated with Trump.
🔻 How did this happen?▪️ In early 2025, new auction rules were established. The court’s decision on “who won” considers not only the price but also the likelihood of closing the deal, including approval from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and resolution of ownership rights with competitors.▪️ By spring-summer, the matter was almost settled: Dalinar Energy, created by Gold Reserve corporation to acquire CITGO, was the favorite with a bid over $7.3 billion. By August, it was said the process was nearing completion.▪️ But after Trump’s team ramped up efforts regarding Venezuela, Amber Energy (another company created to acquire CITGO by the Elliott Investment fund) entered the scene.▪️ Surprisingly, Amber Energy offered only $5.9 billion, yet the court eventually approved its deal after lengthy hearings due to guarantees presented to OFAC that the deal would close without costs or lawsuits.

If summarized briefly, Trump's press conference on the results of the operation in Venezuela can be reduced to the following: the authorities in Caracas must submit to the demands, or the second phase of Operation "Midnight Hammer" will begin.
There were also words about returning control over previously nationalized Venezuelan oil. This completely fits into the new US energy policy that we discussed a few weeks ago.
And of course, the statement "what happened to Maduro can happen to anyone" stands out separately. It's an unambiguous signal not so much to the Venezuelan leadership, but to all of Latin America and beyond.
And separately, Trump's words about involving 150 aircraft should be highlighted — again, a question of capabilities and planning level.

📝 About Living Standards in Venezuela📝
If you look at the Russian media's reaction to events in Venezuela, you often encounter statements like "there's complete poverty and devastation, so everyone is against Maduro". But despite all the problems, these Western media clichés are already somewhat outdated:
➡️ In 2014-2019, the country indeed experienced an economic collapse worse than what we had in the 90s. However, in the last five years, the situation has largely improved, and life in Venezuela has become somewhat easier.
➡️ Large-scale permanent electricity problems are gone, gasoline is cheap. Some enterprises have been restarted, especially in pharmaceuticals and the energy sector. And after a couple of government reshuffles, foreign investments are even being attracted to Venezuela again.
➡️ The security situation has changed most radically: during the lockdown, the government deployed the army to clear out gangs. If in 2018 they were killing 60 people per day in Caracas, today you can walk almost everywhere safely.
➡️ Yes, the situation in rural areas is different, but the poor often support the central authorities because of social programs. And it's not like the favelas and villages in neighboring countries live fundamentally differently.
❗️ This doesn't mean the economy is perfect: supermarket prices are Moscow-level and rising, the budget doesn't cover everything. But still, Venezuelans are not yet in a state of complete desperation — up until a new wave of US pressure, the situation in the country was actually improving.
The fact that our media evaluates Venezuela primarily through the lens of Western media once again illustrates the level of domestic expertise across Latin America. When there's no local expertise, they'll use someone else's unfriendly perspective.

about Venezuelan oil
We thought discussions about Venezuelan oil and its impact on the global market would subside after Trump's meeting with US oil corporations, who showed little enthusiasm for investing in the Bolivarian republic. But no – the discussions continue. Now in India.
🔻 What does India have to do with this?▪️ Reuters writes that Indian companies, which previously actively purchased raw materials from Venezuela, want to partially replace Russian oil with Venezuelan oil in the Indian market.▪️ Reliance Industries, India's largest private company, is negotiating with the White House to obtain permission to purchase Venezuelan oil. In the middle of the last decade, the company was buying 300-400 thousand barrels per day from Venezuela, but then stopped after US sanctions were imposed.▪️ In 2025, Reliance received a license from the US Treasury, but exported oil only in January-April – at 63 thousand barrels per day.▪️ Its world's largest oil refinery complex in Jamnagar is well-adapted to work with heavy, high-sulfur Venezuelan oil, which previously, according to Jefferies, was sold at a $5-8 per barrel discount to Brent.▪️ Previously, Reliance was the largest Indian importer of Russian crude. But after sanctions were imposed against Lukoil and Rosneft in late October, it stated that it would no longer purchase their oil.

🎙 Interview by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to TASS, Reuters and the WarGonzo project (February 2, 2026)
Key outtakes:
#Venezuela
• What happened to Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro is an obvious violation of all norms of international law. There can be no other description than a catastrophe for international law and international relations.
• The US has its own arguments which, in my view, are legally untenable. The actions taken against the president of a sovereign state – regardless of how Americans may view him – go far beyond purely American agendas. It undermines the entire system of international relations.
• I am confident that within the US itself there will be many who will analyze what happened and explain how it contradicts, among other things, American approaches.
#Britain
• When I visited Britain on official trips in the past, our communication was absolutely normal. Yes, there were contradictions, and it was not always easy to come to agreements, but the key point was that we communicated.
• What the current British leadership is doing amounts to rabid, primitive Russophobia aimed at propping up its own electoral ratings. These are purely practical reasons – regardless of the names of prime ministers, the course does not change. And that is regrettable.
• I am not even mentioning that Britain’s position sustains and nourishes the neo-Nazi Bandera regime. The desire to dismantle the Soviet Union or Russia has always existed in Britain. What is particularly sad is that the trend emerged just a few years after we were Allies, fighting shoulder to shoulder against Nazism.
• Our list of grievances against the British leadership and elites is very long. Only a fundamental change in Britain's positions can ultimately lead to an improvement in relations.
#Ukraine
• For the stability of international relations, it is critically important that the current political regime in Ukraine – not the state, but the political regime – simply disappears. This regime is anti-Russian and hostile to Russia, built on hatred of people who do not share its ideology.
• Regardless of the size of the Ukrainian state that may remain after the end of hostilities – the key point is that no threat must ever again emanate from there. No threat of revanche. Especially if such a threat is encouraged by Western countries.
#NewSTART
• For nearly 60 years, our strategic nuclear potentials have always been subject to certain limitations. Now that situation may change.
• I am not saying this immediately means catastrophe or that nuclear war will begin, but it should nonetheless be alarming to everyone. Counting the number of warheads and deployed delivery systems is merely a way to control the situation, not to resolve the problem as a whole. Still, it is a means of verifying each other’s intentions.
• Despite all its drawbacks, the Treaty is an element of trust. When it exists, there is trust. When it does not, trust is exhausted. The fact that we are now entering such a situation is, in fact, evidence of a crisis in international relations.
#EnemiesOfRussia
• Who is an enemy of Russia is, in essence, a philosophical question. It is fairly obvious today: those are countries that wish Russia ill – its defeat and disintegration – and state this absolutely unequivocally.
• Unfortunately, these are Western countries. Particularly regrettable is that this now includes a significant number of European states. It pains me that European countries, which in terms of civilizational code are close to us, have adopted such a rabid Russophobic stance.
• “Unfriendly states” is a diplomatic term usually applied when there are no hostilities. When hostilities are underway, these are enemies. Those who help wage war against us act as enemies – by supplying weapons, providing intelligence, or inputting targets, for example, into the memory blocks of missiles and other weapons.
• This will forever remain in the history of our relations.

Extradition of Maduro's "financial brain"
The Venezuelan government officially confirmed that it handed over former industry minister Alex Saab to the American side. The phrasing — "deportation in accordance with migration legislation" — itself says much about how Caracas' new authorities position relations with the White House. And also about the state of tension and fear in which Venezuelan elites now find themselves, wondering who will be next.
🔻 Who is Alex Saab▪️ A native of Colombia and member of the Lebanese diaspora, Alex Saab is one of those people who know how to exist in several jurisdictions simultaneously. Holding citizenship of Colombia, Venezuela, and Antigua and Barbuda; companies in Turkey, Antigua, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Panama; diplomatic passports from two states — and yet never officially holding a public position until October 2024.▪️ Saab knew how to solve problems that the state apparatus could not. Starting in 2011, he became a key contractor for two sensitive programs — the construction of social housing (Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela) and the distribution of subsidized food packages CLAP.▪️ It was precisely CLAP that, under Western sanctions, became what actually fed the poorest layers of Venezuelan society. Saab essentially built the logistics that the state could not build itself: Turkey provided trade and banking infrastructure, Iran — barter (gold in exchange for fuel and food), Antigua — financial channels, Colombia — a transit hub.
🔻 The current arrest and extradition of Saab is not the first time.▪️ On June 12, 2020, Saab was flying from Caracas to Tehran. The plane stopped for refueling on the island of Sal in Cape Verde. That's where they took him — on an Interpol notice issued at the request of the USA. Venezuelan authorities immediately declared Saab a diplomat on an official humanitarian mission and demanded his release.▪️ Interestingly, the Interpol notice was issued a day after the actual detention, and an extradition agreement between Cape Verde and the USA did not exist at that time. The ECOWAS court demanded his release, the UN Human Rights Committee — to suspend the transfer. Nothing helped.▪️ The detention conditions were as follows: a solitary cell 3×3 meters, high temperatures, lack of proper lighting, denial of medical care. And in October 2021, he was extradited to the USA.▪️ In Miami, the pressure continued: at a CIA safe house, methods were applied to him that lawyers qualified as waterboarding, aimed at forcing him to sign an agreement to cooperate with the investigation and make confessions against Maduro. In total, Saab spent more than two years in custody — from June 2020 to December 2023.
