The brigade's units are now located in the Svatovsky, Lyman and Bakhmutsky sectors. And in fact, Budin became the first high-ranking Western politician to get so close to the line of military contact.

🔻The Finns decided to keep up with their neighbors. On December 18, a defense agreement was signed in the US State Department building. The Pentagon now has unhindered access to 15 military facilities, not only for the deployment of troops but also for the storage and deployment of equipment and ammunition. One of the identified objects was Rissala Karelia Air Command Air Base, which is only 137 kilometers away from the border with the Russian Federation.
🔻The Danes also caught up, and on December 21, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen signed a defense agreement in Washington with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Scandinavia is not lagging behind other regions of the world in military activity. Attention to the Arctic region has been growing year by year, and the adoption of the new US Arctic Strategy in July 2024 has only confirmed this.
The Northern countries play a key role in this strategy, actively developing a full-fledged role as a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, taking the lead in NATO policy in the northern latitudes.
🔻On October 9, a four-party exercise Marex Autumn started in the Kattegat and Skagerrak straits, connecting the Baltic Sea with the North Sea, with the participation of three Scandinavian countries and Germany.
The main stage of the exercise is focused in the area of the Hönö island, where a naval formation has already been formed for joint training on the defense of the Swedish coast and the adjacent waters of the Baltic Sea.
In addition, sailors from the four countries will conduct mining of the straits, a simulated blockade of shipping, as well as joint training to protect the airspace and maritime domain from UAVs and unmanned boats.
❗️The key point should be considered the blockade of shipping through the Kattegat and Skagerrak straits, since in such a scenario, communication through the Baltic Sea will be disrupted, and Russia will be the main victim.
If you remember, in the first half of the year, NATO was practicing the closure of the Gulf of Finland, but if this plan is considered as an option for an extreme case, then the straits into the North Sea, to which Russia has no territorial rights, are a completely different matter.

At the MSPO-2025 exhibition in Kielce, the Swedish Minister of Defense Pål Jonson confirmed readiness to supply the Air Force of the so-called Ukraine with JAS 39 Gripen fighters. They are even considering the latest Gripen E, but this will only be possible after the end of hostilities.

Attacks in the Black Sea waters will apparently become even more intense. Along with regular drone raids on Crimea and Krasnodar Region and attacks on civilian vessels, reconnaissance activity has sharply increased.

A Su-27 flew to intercept them. Two Rafale fighters and two Belgian Air Force F-16s provided escort for French reconnaissance.➡️ On December 18, two RQ-4 drones arrived in the Black Sea. One American drone patrolled southwest of Sevastopol from early morning, and another NATO drone.
However, the RQ-4D could not operate for long in its classic manner. Due to electronic warfare impact, it flew back after two hours due to loss of control signal. However, a P-8A replaced it.➡️ On December 19, enhanced reconnaissance continued. An ARTEMIS CL-650 system aircraft flew along the Krasnodar Region and south of Crimea.
Swedish aviation is especially active near Kaliningrad or the Kola Peninsula, but arrival in the Black Sea zone is a unique event.

Lithuania's Ministry of Defense signed a contract with Swedish company SAAB for €320 million to supply Bolide missiles for RBS-70 air defense systems.
Deliveries will continue for six years, reportedly "without interruption".
➡️ The contract includes missiles capable of hitting targets up to nine kilometers away and penetrating 200-millimeter thick armor. The Lithuanian air defense battalion is already equipped with RBS-70. They are simple to maintain and mobile.
📌 SAAB is earning billions from Lithuania: the republic has already purchased mobile MSHORAD air defense systems for €119 million, as well as Carl-Gustaf M4 and AT4 grenade launchers and ammunition. Hundreds of millions are going to SAAB. And there are still contracts with Americans, Finns, and Poles.

on the Swedish confiscation of a bulk carrier
Nearly two months have passed since Swedish coast guard seized the bulk carrier CAFFA south of Swedish shores. The vessel sailed under the Guinea flag from Morocco to St. Petersburg with mandarins on board. Authorities accused it of exporting grain from Crimea.
The request most likely came from so-called Ukraine, whose authorities scrutinize every vessel leaving Crimea or the Azov Sea. Prosecutor Hakan Larsson confirmed the confiscation information this week, though noting that it is temporary.
The fact that Stockholm officially announced a temporary confiscation and possible transfer to a third party is essentially a test run, aimed at assessing how Russia will react to this. And Russia's response will shape the further decision.
