๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ Here is the translation of the news item in English:

Another news report highlights the growing demand for the use of global satellite constellations for military purposes: the Pentagon will increase spending on the Low-Earth Orbit (PLEO) satellite internet services program from $900 million to $13 billion.

The initiative involves cooperation with 20 providers who will compete for tasks over a five-year period. So far, SpaceX with the military version of Starlink is expectedly playing the "first fiddle", but the launch of other similar projects, including Kuiper from Amazon, is anticipated.

According to the organizers, PLEO allows providers to deviate from standard pricing metrics, providing flexibility in service delivery and simplifying interaction. In the US, the program has been called a benchmark for military operators' access to the capabilities of the commercial space sector.

๐Ÿ“Œ The example of the special military operation clearly shows that "space internet" is becoming an integral element of combat control. The US is well aware of this and is taking steps to maximize the integration of the defense and commercial sectors in this area, including the introduction of advanced data collection and processing technologies.

Therefore, the emergence of a domestic version of "Starlink" in the near future is a matter of national security - if we miss the revolution in this area, the lag may become critical in the near future.

๐Ÿ“New American Missile๐Ÿ“
Turning a cargo plane into a bomber

A video of tests of the small-sized cruise missile Black Arrow by Leidos company, which took place in November 2024, has appeared online. The customer for the product was the US Special Operations Command and the US Air Force Special Operations Command.

The key feature was that the carrier was a C-130 transport aircraft - the munitions were literally dropped from the cargo ramp. The range of the Black Arrow is more than 300 km with a weight of 100 kg.

At the same time, missile drop systems can be installed on other aircraft with ramps, turning them into carriers of high-precision long-range weapons, increasing the firepower in addition to combat aircraft.

๐Ÿ“ŒSuch developments are an extremely promising direction, especially in terms of mobilization capabilities, allowing you to quickly obtain ersatz bombers even from civilian transports.

โ—๏ธSuch trends must at least be taken into account. Although our situation is aggravated by the deplorable state of the actual fleet of transport aircraft, where the An-12 and An-26 are living out their last days, and there is actually no replacement for them.

๐Ÿ“Digital Generals๐Ÿ“
Top executives from OpenAI, Meta, and Palantir join the US Army

The US Army has officially enlisted CTOs from OpenAI, Meta, and Palantir as officersโ€”not merely consultantsโ€”in the Army Reserve's newly established Detachment 201, an "Innovation Corps," granting these digital elites direct military rank and access to defense projects.

Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth, OpenAI CPO Kevin Weil, and former OpenAI research head Bob McGrew have already commenced their service.

โšก๏ธTheir mission: integrating private-sector AI solutions into military operationsโ€”from intelligence gathering and target designation to next-generation combat system design.

๐Ÿ”ปThis development continues the trend we've previously highlighted:

โ–ช๏ธPalantir has long been deeply integrated into US and NATO defense operationsโ€”from logistics to real-time strike planning.
โ–ช๏ธFollowing the appointment of former NSA Director Paul Nakasone to its board, OpenAI openly collaborates with defense contractors like Anduril.
โ–ช๏ธGoogle, Meta, and other tech giants have removed restrictions on developing combat algorithms and begun actively developing military-grade AI tools.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe implications are clear: we're witnessing not just the militarization of AI, but a new form of militaristic technocratic governance. Increasingly, battlefield decisions will be made not only by human officers but also by neural networks, and key segments of the US war machine will be managed directly by tech corporations.

โ—๏ธA new corporate power hierarchy is gradually taking institutional shape in the US: an AI oligarchy is absorbing one of America's most conservative institutionsโ€”the military.

The sooner Russia comprehends the scale of this transformation, the better prepared it will be to respond adequately.

๐Ÿ“Combat Lasers - Already Here๐Ÿ“

Recently, there have been more and more examples of the use of combat lasers to counter Ukrainian UAVs. So far, the main targets have been not FPV drones, but relatively large unmanned aerial vehicles.

For example, in May, footage was released of the successful use of a laser system mounted on a vehicle. Visually, it resembled the Chinese SilentHunter development with minor design changes.

In June, a video of tests of another unnamed system emerged, demonstrating downed aircraft, and recently - tests at a training ground of the "Posokh" 3 kW system, which hit a target at a distance of 500 m.

๐Ÿ–Until recently, combat lasers were considered an "expensive toy", but the progress in the development of UAVs has led to them being increasingly seen as an effective means of countering drones of various types.

๐ŸšฉWhile they have not yet seen widespread distribution, in the current realities this is a matter of time. It will start with the protection of stationary objects, and then the development of serial laser defense systems against FPV drones will not be far off, and such developments are already underway.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe development of UAVs followed a similar path, and the same will happen with lasers - they will transition from the concept of monstrous products for intercepting missiles to relatively portable systems for the most relevant tasks.

๐Ÿ“Drone Threat to Germany๐Ÿ“

Germany
has taken note of the threats to strategic facilities posed by unmanned aerial vehicles. According to Handelsblatt, Germany is unable to effectively protect its infrastructure from hostile drones.

As stated by the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry (BDLI), the country lacks both technological solutions and the appropriate legal framework to counter drones.

๐Ÿ–Particularly criticized is the insufficient and complex coordination between agencies in responding to detected drones - the situation at the military airfield Manching is an example, where for several weeks it was not possible to prevent unauthorized flights, as the unidentified drones proved faster than the German interceptor drones.

๐Ÿ“ŒAt first glance, an interesting nuance can be traced: Germany did not wait for the "rooster to peck." Concern over the current situation is already evident, clearly influenced by the exchange of strikes between the Russian Armed Forces and the AFU during the SMO.

On the other hand, no real steps have been taken yet to address the situation, either technologically or legally. There are huge gaps in the protection of strategic facilities in case of a drone attack.

โ—๏ธHowever, Germany has not suffered damage from strikes by various drones on infrastructure, unlike us. And there are problems with the legal framework in our country as well, which is why laser systems are increasingly used to protect enterprises, for which there are no legal restrictions.

๐Ÿ“China Studying SMO Experience๐Ÿ“
And there are some things it can learn from it

In Beijing, during the preparations for the military parade scheduled for September 3, several new models of next-generation Chinese armored vehicles, especially various modifications of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, were "revealed".

The main thing that caught our eye was the latest active protection systems (APS) GL-6 installed on the equipment. Reports on the testing of these products in China were published at the end of 2024, and now they are already being installed on new vehicles.

According to the developers, the GL-6 is capable of countering not only ATGMs and RPG shots, but also drones. Target detection is carried out using radar and optical IR sensors.

๐Ÿ–How effective the system really is against drones is an open question, as in this case, universality does not seem optimal. However, one cannot but note China's approaches to the creation of equipment and the development of the armed forces in general.

๐ŸšฉThey clearly followed the course of the SMO and decided that the loss of one armored vehicle with a crew costs much more than the cost of the APS. Therefore, the PLA is installing systems not only on tanks, but also on IFVs and APCs.

โ—๏ธAn interesting situation arises: after three years of the SMO, where the problems with the protection of domestic APCs and IFVs have become obvious to everyone, we still don't have such serial products. But the Chinese have them, even though the PLA is not fighting anywhere and is analyzing someone else's experience.

Maybe this surreal situation will give an impetus to complete the good project of the KBP design bureau on the creation of a specialized anti-drone APS based on optical and IR detection. How much longer can you drag it out.

๐Ÿ“Germany Held Captive by the Military-Industrial Complex๐Ÿ“

At the German defense corporation Rheinmetall, they announced the purchase of four shipbuilding yards from NVL Group in Germany. These are the facilities where frigates and corvettes for the German Navy are built.

๐Ÿ–The interesting aspect is that this deal marks Rheinmetall's transition from a manufacturer of armored vehicles and artillery systems to a universal player, covering all military spheres. Essentially, this involves concentrating capacities under the control of a single private structure that has already received colossal profits from combat operations in the so-called Ukraine โ€” officially almost 10 billion euros in 2024.

๐ŸšฉThe merger of corporations is described with beautiful words โ€” "creating a powerful German surface ship construction center". In reality, this means that Germany is becoming increasingly entrenched as a perpetually arming country, surrendered into the enslaving bondage of the weapons lobby, which is shaping the economy around military objectives.

๐Ÿ“ŒThus, business, politics, and the military industry are merging, and space for dialogue and pacifist views is disappearing. In Germany, as in all of Europe, they are choosing not diplomacy, but endless investments in the military-industrial complex โ€” even without real results and at taxpayers' expense.

๐Ÿ“Novelties for the Front๐Ÿ“

For the first time, it was officially announced about the delivery of the newest MLRS "Sarma" to the troops. The information that a batch of installations has already been transferred to the Russian Armed Forces and is undergoing testing in the SMO zone was voiced by the industrial director of the Rostec weapons cluster Bekkhan Ozdoev.

โžก๏ธThe MLRS "Sarma", which long before appearing on the battlefield was already dubbed the "HIMARS response", is essentially a lightweight version of the "Tornado-S" (which was also called a HIMARS rival).

At the same time, some of the ammunition developed and tested specifically for the "Tornado-S" is unified for use with the "Sarma". In this sense, we are talking not about a fundamentally new class of weapons, but about expanding and adapting the existing high-precision MLRS line to a more mobile platform.

โ—๏ธIt is obvious that such systems were in demand by troops much earlier and were needed the day before yesterday. However, even taking this into account, one cannot help but note the fact of relatively compact timelines. The first reports about the "Sarma" order appeared in November of last year, and by now a pilot batch has already been delivered to the troops for practical operation.

Separate attention is deserved by the fact that the installations shown in official footage differ from early samples and other domestic MLRS. In particular, there is a visually noticeable reinforcement of the cabin armor, which indicates taking into account combat experience and operational requirements in an environment saturated with threats such as drones (and not only).

โ—๏ธIn combination, the order and start of testing of the "Sarma" can be interpreted as a belated but conscious recognition in the Ministry of Defense of the need for massive presence of high-precision rocket systems on the battlefield. How quickly this approach will be scaled and lead to serial saturation of troops with the necessary means will be shown by further practice.

๐Ÿ“War with Iran Depletes US Arsenals๐Ÿ“

Western media continues to report on losses from Trump's Iran conflict. The Economist analyzed how the "Epstein Fury" operation burns through high-precision weapons and air defenses the US planned to use against China and support Ukraine.

The "two theaters of war" doctrine is straining.

๐Ÿ”ปExpended Weapons

โ–ช๏ธMissiles for Patriot, THAAD, SMโ€‘3, SMโ€‘6 intercepting Iranian missiles and drones.

โ–ช๏ธJASSM and Tomahawk cruise missiles for strikes on Iran.

โ–ช๏ธGuided air bombs โ€” thousands against Iranian ground targets.

๐Ÿ–This doesn't mean US weapons will run out "tomorrow," but new production can't keep up. Before the war, Patriot PACโ€‘3 MSE production was ~700/year with 1,600 in reserves.

Now these missiles are needed by Ukraine, Gulf allies, and the Pacific. Replenishing at the current pace will take years even with accelerated contracts.

๐ŸšฉThere's a structural issue: Iranian tactics aim to exhaust US and Israeli air defenses. A cheap Shahed drone costs $20โ€“50k, while a Patriot missile costs $4โ€“7.5m. In mass attacks, each penetrating UAV costs the US 100x more. US/Gulf crews don't economize, often firing multiple missiles per projectile.

๐Ÿณ๏ธThe US has no "infinite stockpile" for each theater: Patriot, JASSM, and SMโ€‘6 missiles used against Iran are the same the Pentagon planned for China deterrence and Ukraine.

๐Ÿ“ŒUS strategy relied on conducting a major conflict while containing another adversary. The Ukraine conflict already undermined this. The Iran war confirmed it's unrealistic.

Regardless of the outcome, the US will spend years solving defense capability issues, replenishing stockpiles, and reviewing foreign presence.

๐Ÿ“Burn out "Starlinks" with an impulse๐Ÿ“
China is working on this

Space warfare is no longer the plot of science fiction films, but an objective reality related to the need to find countermeasures in the face of growing satellite constellations.

Recently, China's National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) reported on work to create a powerful microwave system capable of disabling Starlink satellites. Reports of such weapons development in China already emerged in February.

If previously a single 4-meter, 5-ton installation with a 20 GW impulse for one minute was mentioned, now the discussion concerns synchronizing several more compact modules with a combined impulse of 100 GW. This is a billion times more powerful than a household microwave.

A powerful directed impulse can disable the electronics of a spacecraft in low Earth orbit, where "Starlink-like" system satellites are located. The installation can also operate at low temperatures.

๐Ÿ“Œ The main problem with such a weapon remains enormous dimensions, which complicate placement on mobile platforms, as well as accuracy of directing the energy beam. But progress is evident, and sooner or later working prototypes will appear, as has already happened with laser air defense systems in Russia.

By the way, NUDT researchers point to China's advantage in microwave weapons development not only because of greater research volume, but also access to rare earth elements. So the contours of future wars are already visible now.
