Injury news: David Alaba won’t travel with Austria for next Euro 2020 qualifier
Media Bayern Munich’s left back is battling “muscular issues.” Bayern Munich left back and Austria international is experiencing “ongoing muscular issues” while competing in the Euro 2020 qualifiers. The injury is not thought to be serious, but the 26-year-old will not travel with Austria for its next game against Israel, which is slated to take place on Sunday March 24th at Sammy Ofer Stadium. With the lack of a natural understudy at left back, any injury to Alaba is serious news for the Bavarians. Recently, Alaba had been battling “tendon irritation” with Bayern, which caused him to miss games against Borussia Monchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg. No doubt, the Austrian has had a bit of bad luck of late with his health. Hopefully neither injury is too serious.Unfortunately, there’s already some bad news on the injury front for Bayern Munich, and we’re only half way through the international break. Both Kingsley Coman and David Alaba have sustained injuries with their respective squads (France and Austria) that will be cause for some concern for Niko Kovac.Alaba started and played the full 90 minutes in Austria’s 1-0 Euro 2020 qualifier loss to Robert Lewandowski’s Poland, but he will not travel with the team to Israel for their next qualifier. Alaba had just been working his way back from some minor tendon irritation, but it’s unclear whether or not his muscular problem has any relation to that. David Alaba also summoned to Austria’s training camp despite rib injury
Tottenham Hotspur v Bayern Muenchen: Group B - UEFA Champions League No rest for the weary. | Photo by TF-Images/Getty ImagesBayern Munich will have to suck it up and let a second injured player after Lucas Hernández travel to his team: Austria wants to examine David Alaba for itself. The Austrian football federation has added yet another insult to injury, after France insisted that injured center-back Lucas Hernández travel to join the French team for examination. The Austrians will also make use of their right to summon David Alaba to their international training camp during the break so that they can examine him and determine whether he might be fit to play. The federation announced on Twitter,David #Alaba, der an einem Haarriss in der Rippe laboriert, wird am Montag ins Teamcamp nach Wien reisen. Rummenigge denies rumors that Bayern Munich will swap David Alaba for Leroy Sane
FC Bayern Muenchen Annual General Meeting Photo by TF-Images/Getty ImagesThe club Chairman called the speculation a “fairy tale” and confirmed there was no such deal with Manchester City.Just yesterday, The Sun came out with a stunning exclusive, claiming that Bayern Munich were ready to offer David Alaba plus £50m in cash to secure the services of Leroy Sane this summer. The Manchester City winger has been linked with a move to Germany for some time now, but The Sun’s report blew everything we’d heard so far out of the water. Now, if something smells fishy, it probably is. Today, Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge threw cold water on the speculation by categorically denying the existence of any such offer. He even called it a “fairy tale”:#FCBayern-Boss #Rummenigge: „Wie ich gehört habe, kursieren Gerüchte, dass wir David #Alaba gerne im Tausch gegen Leroy #Sané an #ManCity abgeben wollen würden. Dazu sage ich klar & deutlich: Das ist Grimms Märchen und hat nichts mit der Realität zu tun!“ #FCBTransfersommer— Manuel Bonke (@mano_bonke) March 27, 2020As I’ve heard, rumors are circulating that we would like to hand over David #Alaba to #ManCity in exchange for Leroy # Sané. On this I say clearly: This is a Grimm’s fairy tale and has nothing to do with reality!Of course no one in their right minds took the rumor seriously to begin with, so it wasn’t really necessary for KHR to comment on it. The Sun is a good source of clean, renewable energy, but a poor source for football transfer news.Unfortunately, with the coronavirus having killed all sporting entertainment across the globe, we have nothing left to entertain us except nonsensical transfer rumors like these. Good on The Sun for coming up with such outlandish nonsense and framing it as an “exclusive”, but please try harder next time.Read more...

Pep Guardiola covets David Alaba for Manchester City
Bayer 04 Leverkusen v FC Bayern Muenchen - DFB Cup Final Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty ImagesNot even a global pandemic can stop silly season. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has given the green light. Now that the Court of Arbitration for Sport has overturned Manchester City’s two-year Champions League ban, one of the biggest players in the international transfer market just got a big green light to continue to flaunt Financial Fair Play rules put in place by FIFA. Per The Guardian, City will reportedly have £150 million to play with, and manager Pep Guardiola has added left-back and center-back to his list of demands.Enter David Alaba. Pep, the former Bayern boss, is all too familiar with Bayern’s versatile defenseman extraordinaire. Alaba is obviously more than capable at playing either of those positions at a very high level — some would say, the highest — and now is reportedly Pep’s top target.Alaba, who has previously expressed no such desire to play in Manchester, or even the Premier League, could potentially be swayed by the enormous wages that City can offer. Besides ruling that City can basically thumb their collective noses at FFP laws, the CAS also reduced City’s €30 million fine by about €20 million — roughly equivalent to a year’s wages for an elite player of Alaba’s caliber. As far as transfer rumors go, this smells like nothing more than someone connecting the dots of former manager with former player at a position of need. Alaba has expressed interest only in joining Real Madrid or FC Barcelona. Of course, this ruling in City’s favor could change things very quickly if Alaba no longer sees a future for himself in Munich.David #Alaba doesn‘t want to join #ManCity. The only two clubs he seriously would consider to leave #FCBayern are #Barca and #RealMadrid. #FCBTransfersommer https://t.co/DgVKW7vMzA— Manuel Bonke (@mano_bonke) July 13, 2020Read more...

Where will this end? With the David Alaba contract extension saga at a stalemate, rumors have begun circulating about the Austrian’s potential departure from Bayern Munich. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sport1, there is concrete interest from Juventus for the player. Having won the Champions League twice in Bavaria, is Alaba considering a move abroad?Well, not so fast. Just today, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said that Bayern were still trying to convince the Austrian to sign a new contract with the club. Plettenberg confirms the same, but also confirms reports claiming interest from Italy:Update #Alaba: I can’t confirm an agreement between #Juventus & Alabas representatives (Zahavi/ Dad George). But there is definitely a high interest from #Juve. FCB officials still believe that Alaba will extend the contract. But he takes his time & there is no ultimatum. @SPORT1 https://t.co/CJexdiTREy— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) October 12, 2020Importantly, there doesn’t seem to be an agreement between Alaba and Juventus, which keeps Bayern at the table. Why Juventus? For months now, it’s been reported that the player only wanted to move to Real Madrid or FC Barcelona if he left Germany, but perhaps the current situation has changed his mind. Given that Bayern are standing firm on their salary offer, and the apparent lack of interest from Spain, Alaba has been forced to broaden his horizons. In that case, Juventus wouldn’t be a bad destination. Unlike the Spanish clubs, who are well-covered in the Austrian’s preferred playing positions (left-back, center-back, and midfield), Alaba would be a key cog in Turin if he were to move there. The Bianconeri love experienced players, which makes Alaba, as a two-time treble winner, a nice fit. They also have ambitions of winning the Champions League in the coming seasons, which suits a player of the Austrian’s caliber — he will get to play with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala while in the prime of his career. He could even get to play in midfield if he chooses — there’s no Joshua Kimmich or Thiago Alcantara around to keep him on defense. As for Juventus, the move would make perfect sense if Alaba chooses to leave on a free. Well, Bayern Munich and Alaba’s camp both still have plenty of time to reach an agreement, but things are not going to be easy. With Bayern Munich’s finances severely affected by COVID-19, the club’s purse strings and its patience are being tested.Sure, this is all part of the negotiating game, but the Bavarians are deep at both center-back and left-back, and certainly are not looking to add even more salary demands to an already strained budget. It might be time to think that things have officially gotten contentious, but it does not mean anything is necessarily over. The coming weeks should give both parties an opportunity to re-visit and work through at least one more round of talks. The biggest question will be whether or not the proposal Bayern Munich just withdrew was the club’s best-and-final offer for the Austrian. If Bayern Munich opts to let Alaba walk, Liverpool, <a href="ht…

Paris Saint-Germain v Bayern Munich - UEFA Champions League FinalPhoto by Michael Regan - UEFA/UEFA via Getty ImagesDavid Alaba officially announced that he would leave Bayern Munich and now new reports are starting to flow about where he might end up next.Per a report from Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has narrowed down the search for his next club.Plettenberg tweeted that Alaba is not “aiming” for a move to the Premier League, which means that Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool are likely all out of luck unless the Austrian changes his mind. However, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona are back among the favorites with Real Madrid. Like this whole saga, the twists and turns are never-ending:❗️Update #Alaba: He has not yet signed a contract and is not close to doing so. Top favourite remains @realmadrid. @FCBarcelona (Zahavi is waiting for the election) and (surprisingly) @PSG_inside still have good chances! Alaba is NOT aiming for a move to @premierleague. @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) February 16, 2021Obviously, the news regarding Real Madrid being the favorite is not quite new. From the beginning of this process, Los Blancos have been considered the most likely destination for Alaba. FC Barcelona, though, had fallen off-of-the-radar since its financial woes became a public issue. Paris-Saint Germain, meanwhile, was thought to be a longshot as it was reported that Alaba did not want to play in France. For the Ligue 1 club, however, its deep pockets could play a role in Alaba’s decision-making as there have been numerous reports which state the player has some lofty salary expectations.

@FCBayernEN: RT @Plettigoal: Update #Alaba: The fact that DA is moving to Spain is fixed and leaked out today. His clear tendency is a move to Real Madrid. FC Bayern Muenchen v FC Augsburg - BundesligaPhoto by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Corbis via Getty ImagesIt is alleged that Madrid’s offer to Alaba is worth €12.5M netTo the dismay of many Bayern Munich fans, David Alaba’s contract wasn’t renewed at the club. Throughout contract negotiations between the centre half and Bayern bosses, much was reported about Alaba’s extraordinary salary demands being the key difference point between parties. Now, it appears that this reporting carried large fragments of truth.According to Florian Plettenberg as well as Bild and Sky journalists, Alaba will be paid €12.5M net annually.Update #Alaba (due to many inquiries): Contract until 2026, announcement from @realmadrid in a few hours. Salary €12.5m net/year (also according to @altobelli13 & @Sky_MaxB). But bonuses on top! @SPORT1— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) May 28, 2021Frankly — if true — this is far too much for even a player of Alaba’s quality. For perspective, Robert Lewandowski allegedly has a salary of around €20M gross per season. Alaba’s apparent contract even exceeds this sum by around €5M (€25M gross). It is completely ludicrous. With contracts handed out like this, it is no wonder the precarious financial position that clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona find themselves in. Furthermore, it is a testament of the long term considered nature that has been the hallmark of Bayern’s front office for many years, that Bayern refused to break their wage structure, even for a club legend. Simply put, as Bayern fans, we are lucky to have such calm leadership which will never put the club’s financial future into doubt in order to chase short term success.

FC Bayern Muenchen v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images Funny how he didn’t mention Toni Kroos, huh. Speaking to the media after the 6-0 win over Schalke, Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller was asked by kicker about the ongoing Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Manchester City. Both teams drew 1-1 in the first leg, leaving it all to play for at the Etihad this coming week. Muller, who was seen “advising” Thomas Tuchel on the sidelines during Bayern Munich’s CL quarter-final games versus Man City, said he backs Madrid on a personal level. Wird ein top Rückspiel.“ #rmalive #rma— Georg Holzner (@georg_holzner) May 13, 2023Thomas #Müller on the semi-final between #Real and #ManCity : “On a personal level (also because of #Alaba ) I’m more with Real. In terms of football, I find both teams really great, the way they shape the game. Nice to look at. Will be a top second leg.”Funny how he didn’t mention Toni Kroos. Given how balanced the two teams look after the first leg, it’s hard to disagree with Muller’s assessment here. Of course, you should never rule out Madrid in a Champions League knockout — they own that competition. City may have beaten Bayern 4-1 on aggregate this year, but they were helped along by some awful mistakes on the part of the Bayern players and coaching staff. Madrid are rarely ever so accommodating. It’s sad that, for a third consecutive season, we won’t see Bayern Munich competing at the very upper echelons of the UEFA Champions League. A proper knockout stage clash with Real Madrid is long overdue. Oh well, maybe next season will go better.

The closer Davies gets to the end of his contract (2025), the more efficient of a purchase he could become for his prospective suitors. The agent for Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, Nedal Huoseh, cannot stop talking about his client’s future in Bavaria — and the possibilities associated with a transfer to Real Madrid. “Real Madrid is a big club. I’ve always been a fan. Not to take anything away from Bayern, they’re a big club. But Real is a big name, big brand, 14 Champions League (titles). When you hear the rumors about interest in a player you manage, it makes you proud,” Huoseh told Fabrizio Romano (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Huoseh then carried on about why some of these rumors might be hitting the media. “We had very positive discussions with Hasan (Salihamidžić) and Marco (Neppe). We were almost there. I woke up the next day and saw the management news in the media. I was in Munich, and waited, nobody reached out,” Househ remarked. “We still have two years with Bayern. We’re taking our time right now to see how things develop in the next few weeks/months. We haven’t made a final decision on anything right now. I can’t confirm anything, and can’t deny anything.”The last few days have represented a lot of public posturing and grandstanding from Huoseh and it remains to be seen if this helps — or hurts — the chances for Bayern Munich to ink Davies to a contract extension. Surely, the Bayern Munich executives are not fans of Huoseh dancing around the Real Madrid interest in a public forum. As for Davies, he is not saying a lot at the moment. After a season that some consider to be mediocre and that was also tumultuous on-and-off the field at times, Davies will be looking to play to his lofty potential next season (no matter where he suits up). With a contract that runs through 2025, there is no hurry for Bayern Munich to get a deal done this very second, but the Rekordmeister would surely not like to see Davies enter into the final year of his contract as a lame duck.
