Walking around Al Aqaba neighbourhood in #Aleppo today as dusk fell. Every narrow street was blocked with fallen buildings, piled high with random household items, huge concrete cross beams snapped and thrown to earth at impossible angles. A young man told us his whole family home had collapsed. He was not there at the time. His handsome Husky somehow survived on the roof. Everywhere devastation.
We asked him how he was feeling. He said "the war was much easier than this".
We clambered over unstable heaps of stone, children's dolls, metal water tanks flung from collapsed rooves. The young man told us that people fled their homes in pitch dark only to be buried under the walls that were falling all around them. I can't imagine the terror. A family were discussing at the foot of the hill. They argued over how long the quake lasted. One minute or two, five? The one guy said "all this destruction [from God] in such a short time and still we didn't learn".
We asked him how he was feeling. He said "the war was much easier than this".

🗓 On the night of 16 January, units of the IRGC aerospace forces carried out a massive strike on Erbil in Iraqi #Kurdistan, as well as on targets of pro-Turkish terrorist groups in #Syria.
🔹 First, at least six Fateh-110 operational-tactical missiles were fired from the vicinity of the IRGC missile base 'Tangey Kenesht' near Kermanshah in the direction of Erbil.
▪️ To overload the air defence systems, the Iranians used tactics that had already been worked out during the air defence, Before the missile attack on Erbil, several Shahed-136 drones were launched, to which the C-RAM systems from the Harir military base responded.

🔹 At the same time, the latest Khyber Shikan medium-range ballistic missiles were launched from #Khuzestan province towards #Syria. It was their flight over the #Basra province in #Iraq that was filmed by Iraqi residents.
▪️ The range of the IRBM is 1,450 km, and the target was the positions of the terrorist groups Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Islamic Party of Turkistan in Taltit near Idlib. Explosions from the arrivals were mistaken for Israeli Air Force strikes on the province of #Aleppo.
▪️ The press service of the IRGC stated that the choice of these targets is due to the fact that a group of IS militants responsible for the terrorist attack in Kerman was being trained in territories controlled by pro-Turkish forces.
📌 But this version seems far-fetched, and the raid itself, apparently, was carried out to demonstrate #Iran’s capabilities. After all, the Iranians had not previously carried out attacks at such a range (1230 km), which was noted in the Israeli media.

❗️🇸🇾🇹🇷 Militant Offensive in Western Aleppo, Syria: Further Collapse of Defense
As of 8:00 PM on November 27, 2024
The offensive by a conglomerate of Syrian groups in the west of Aleppo Province continues: unfortunately, Russian forces have been drawn into another round of the intra-Syrian conflict.
📍 A group of Russian specialists working near the front line was surrounded during the collapse of the front line, and one of them was killed. The rest were reportedly evacuated in time (a separate bow to the quickly responding evacuation team). The information circulating on the internet about the capture of some "three Russian officers" is not confirmed at this stage.
▪️Over almost 10 hours of the offensive, the militants have managed to advance by 8-9 km from the western outskirts of Aleppo at different sections. The offensive at this stage is following the best traditions of the "raid" by Ukrainian formations in the Kharkiv Region in 2022: maximum advancement along the main road directions without consolidating in populated areas in an attempt to capture as much loot as possible and mark new borders.
▪️Among the advancing groups, not only terrorists from "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" are noted: the participation of Uyghur militants from the "Islamic Party of Turkestan", who traditionally operated much further west (in the north of Latakia), Uzbek militants, the bulk of whom operated on the border with Hama Province, as well as parts of other groups, has been confirmed.
All this indicates a planned redeployment of a significant number of combat-ready units, which are also involved in the "psychological" attack on the Syrians: foreign militants have always been perceived as the "most dangerous" by the rather timid Syrians.
▪️Apparently, in some directions, the Syrian army with allies managed to stop the advance of the militants: footage of destroyed enemy armored vehicles is being published online. The terrorists failed to develop the advance north of Ash-Sheikh Aqil and so far have not been able to break through the defense near Kafr Naha and east of Anjara.
📌 In the information space of Syria, as before during any escalations, there is almost complete denial of the loss of settlements and calls to "not believe enemy propaganda." Such "lulling" words have long since ceased to work: the information resources of the militants are taking over with mass involvement of bloggers and propagandists who try to write stand-ups and record short videos literally from every piece of land, savoring the success in every way.
🔻 The transfer of fire brigades to the section - the same 25th Division (former "Tiger Forces") of Suheil al-Hassan - is not yet visible, so most likely the militants will be able to further expand the breakthrough area, taking advantage of the total unpreparedness of the Syrian Arab Army for defense.
Strikes by the Air Force of Syria and the Russian Aerospace Forces are currently clearly insufficient in scale to stop the breakthrough of the militants to the west of Aleppo.

🇷🇺🇸🇾 Let's be honest: the situation in Syria is becoming more complicated due to the behavior of the Syrians themselves.
The statements about the "cream of the nation" being lost in the first years of the war that began in 2011 are absolutely fair. But what remains has been consumed by corruption, nepotism, economic chaos, and an unwillingness to change anything.
We have written in detail about the risks of a resumption of the global conflict in Syria:
📍The start of an offensive by Idlib militants (which is already happening);
📍The rise of unruly tribes and banditry in the south (not yet observed);
📍The activity of ISIS fighters, fed by the US (so far only isolated raids).
🔻Putting all this together, the picture is extremely unattractive: Syria could simply be torn apart and divided, returning to the worst scenario of a decade ago. The current fall of Aleppo, which withstood then, is a direct consequence of the unresolved Syrian conflict at a time when it was necessary to do so.
📌And this is also a very difficult lesson that all people who believe that Minsk-3 could be possible will have to learn.

The situation in the northwestern part of the Syrian Arab Republic continues to deteriorate by the hour: Syrian troops (some in disarray, others organized) are retreating to "more advantageous lines", effectively ceding city after city to the militants.
🔻The jihadists have managed to seize at least 60% of the city of Aleppo. Isolated pockets of resistance remain in the eastern neighborhoods of the city, but there are no active combat operations. In this case, SAA units have entrenched themselves in fortified facilities, under which a network of underground tunnels is located.
▪️In the territories under their control, the militants are running the show: the security services of the "Salvation Government" (the political cover for the terrorist group "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham") have arrived in the city, a curfew has been imposed, and security personnel have been deployed.
Periodically, the Russian Aerospace Forces strike concentrations of militants and the facilities they have occupied. However, even with these continuous strikes, it will not be possible to stop the advance of the anti-government formations: ground forces are needed here to counter them.
▪️In the north of the province, after the occupation of Tadif, the factions of the pro-Turkish conglomerate "Syrian National Army" (SNA) seized the Kwairis airbase. From 2012 to 2015, the facility was besieged by militants and withstood, but now everything is completely different. Russian and Syrian troops had previously evacuated from there.
🔻Another regrettable moment is the spread of the control of Islamist groups over most of Idlib province. Resistance here was only offered in the initial stages of the fighting by the servicemen of the 25th Special Purpose Division in Saraqib and its environs. As a result, the city fell.
Here, the militants captured the Abu ad-Duhur airfield in the eponymous settlement, where they took artillery guns as "spoils of war". It is located 50 km from the city of Idlib - the de facto center of HTS and its puppet government. Notably, the city fell on the same day as Kwairis.
📌Syrian resources can accuse Russia as much as they want of allegedly allowing this tragedy to happen. However, the determining factor here is the lack of proper understanding of the situation by the Syrian military command and the lack of interest of SAA units in fighting for their country.
Given these factors, no intensity of air force use will save the actual state of affairs - the flight of the armed forces of the Arab Republic and the "blitzkrieg" of various extremist bandit formations, which do not encounter much resistance, continues.

In this context, it is interesting that those responsible for the media of pro-Turkish militants remember the successful cases from 2015-2020 well. Just as with the evacuation of the "moderate opposition" from Daraa and other parts of Syria, green buses were used to transport the Kurds.

Interestingly, contrary to the statements of pro-government resources, no confirming footage has been published yet. In turn, the Islamists are posting videos shot in this area no earlier than yesterday.
🔻Against this background, it is very curious that the Syrian media resources do not try to respond promptly to the emerging threats, scattering only statements that one should believe only official sources - they say, this is enough. There is no obvious change in the information approach (which the militants demonstrate).
At the same time, for obvious reasons, it is not yet possible to establish the exact zone of control in the vicinity of Lake Al-Jabbul. Who holds the same Deir Hafer, where footage of abandoned Syrian Arab Army equipment appeared some time ago, is still unknown. However, the last ones spotted in the settlement were militants.
