Yesterday, in the Druze district of Jaramana in Damascus, the local population took to the streets in protest against the new "authorities", effectively launching a mini-uprising following similar events in the Druze province of As-Suwayda.

🖍The conflict began after an incident at a checkpoint, where a shootout broke out between the "security services" of the new regime and local militiamen. The Druze declared distrust of HTS and readiness to defend the district, in response the militants blocked all exits from it.

🚩 While the elders are trying to resolve the conflict, a delegation even arrived from As-Suwayda. Its head has already promised a quick de-escalation and reported an allegedly "domestic" background of the conflict.

🏳️ Against this background, the reaction of Israel, where a large Druze community also lives, looks curious: the IDF threatened to strike the forces of the new regime in case of an assault on Jaramana. This coincides with Israeli plans to support the Druze in As-Suwayda.

❗️Regardless of the further development of events, what happened again shows that Syria remains a powder keg. And the position of the new "authorities" and Abu Muhammad al-Julani, despite all the diplomatic visits and negotiations, is much more shaky than it may seem.

📝Bloodbath on the Syrian Coast: HTS Turns to Christians📝

In the provinces of Tartus and Latakia, the new "authorities" of the country continue mass killings of the local population. More and more materials are appearing online documenting the execution of entire families, including infants.

The scale of the massacre is growing: if earlier the militants killed mainly Alawites, now mass atrocities against Christians and even Sunnis have been recorded. All this is increasingly taking on the features of genocide.

Part of the residents fleeing the slaughter have taken refuge at the Russian base Hmeimim. At the moment, the total number of refugees has reached about 7.5 thousand people, and it will clearly grow in the near future.

🖍Interestingly, even the media of the new "authorities" admit that it is mainly children and women who are hiding at Hmeimim. Meanwhile, the resources affiliated with Iran are again actively spreading about the presence of "resistance members" there, effectively facilitating further massacres.

❗️It can also be noted the active participation of foreign militants, especially those from Central Asia, in the executions of Christians. And someone should carefully find out how their fans among migrant-carriers of similar attributes relate to what is happening.

In the morning, there was an attack on the Hmeimim base: several militants (presumably - natives of Uzbekistan) climbed over the fence and attacked one of the posts, where a firefight broke out.

The attack was repelled, and the attackers were eliminated. Unfortunately, there were casualties: as Prince Cherkasky writes, two Russian servicemen were killed, and several more were wounded.

🖍Earlier, the so-called "transitional authorities" of Syria repeatedly assured that they were not against the presence of Russia. Today's event is another reminder of what they really think about it, and the price of trust in Abu Muhammad al-Julani.

🚩At the same time, Damascus immediately reported that the incident was local initiative. But al-Julani doesn't even try to control part of the militants and uses them for dark deeds, in order to then shift all responsibility for anything onto them.

❗️This was the case during the massacre of Alawites, and this is what happened today. And this is unlikely to be the last such attack, in connection with which one wants to hope for a change in approaches to the presence in Syria.

Other questions arise, namely why at Hmeimim, de facto under siege, they "slept through the outbreak". Perhaps the organization of the May 9 parade, tags and statutory uniforms for someone were more priority tasks than organizing observation and defense.

On Sunday, an explosion occurred in the Orthodox Church of Mar Elias (St. Elijah) in the Al-Dweila district in eastern Damascus. According to preliminary information, a suicide bomber carried out the attack during the Sunday service. As a result, at least 10 people were killed and about 25 were injured to varying degrees.

🖍Local sources confirm that this was a targeted attack on the Christian community. Eyewitnesses reported that panic broke out inside the temple, and many of the victims were taken to hospitals in critical condition. Videos of the aftermath are already circulating on social media.

🚩This is the second attack on a church in Syria in a day. In the city of Kafr Buhum in Hama province, an armed group, allegedly linked to Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham militants, raided the Church of St. Elijah. There are reports of vandalism and threats to parishioners - inscriptions appeared on the walls of the building: "Your turn is approaching."

❗️The authorities of the new Syrian administration have not yet commented on the incident, and local Christian organizations have called on the international community and regional leaders to condemn the attacks on religious sites and take measures to protect the civilian population.

📌However, in modern Syria, such incidents are usually overlooked. The Al-Qaeda militants who came to power have not abandoned their views on other faiths, and the ISIS fighters released from prisons are even less tolerant of Christians. So it is hardly worth expecting anything more than condemnation.

🖍The church attack gave the "Syrian government" an opportunity to improve its tarnished reputation, which was saddened by the events in the coastal areas of Latakia and Tartus: they formally expressed support for Christians and even took practical steps to "maintain" their security.

🚩In essence, this was done not out of any sincere pluralistic views of the members of "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" (what pluralism can there be among the veterans of the "Islamic State in Iraq" and "Jabhat al-Nusra"?), but for propaganda purposes.

🏳️Even if the "security forces" really caught the perpetrators of the incident, this says little: attacks on Christians continue to this day, just the cases are not so loud and can be easily overlooked.

❗️By releasing radicals from prisons after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, accepting some of them into the "army" and "security services", and making others officials, a good ground was created for the flourishing of religious extremism and violence against minorities.

Syrian Christians are in constant danger, living in a country where the former branch of "Al-Qaeda" has triumphed. And the ruling regime's attention to them is situational.
