🇪🇸🇲🇷 Spain strengthens its military cooperation with Mauritania to counter Russian influence
On February 14, a Spanish military delegation visited the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott as part of the 22nd meeting of the Joint Military Commission.
During the meeting the theme of a "follow-up and evaluation of joint military cooperation between the two countries and ways to develop it" was raised, and sides discussed "the existing cooperation relations between the two friendly countries," according to the Mauritanian army.
The decline of French influence in the African Sahel region, in exchange for the escalation of Russia's military presence in the region, raised Spain's concern about the Russian influence in Mauritania, which is close to the Spanish Canary Islands.

During the day, a massive power outage occurred in major cities across Spain, where the metro, factories, communication networks, airports, and road infrastructure were left without electricity. As a result, the country experienced a transportation collapse.
Similar problems were observed in the neighboring countries of France, Portugal and Andorra. The exact cause was not specified, but local energy operators officially attributed the failure to some "rare atmospheric phenomenon."
Possibly, there was a failure at a nuclear power plant, and then everything went in waves due to frequency fluctuations that the existing capacities were unable to stabilize. Including those built in Europe as part of the "green transition."
It is possible that if the energy facilities were subjected to a real attack, the region could have plunged into a pre-industrial era. Interestingly, do the affairs in other parts of Western Europe coincidentally not be in the same way?

Spain loses connectivity again
In April, a total blackout occurred on the Iberian Peninsula, when entire cities and transport infrastructure were left without electricity for a long time. Today, the situation has partly repeated itself.
This time, due to a morning power outage in Spain, communication was lost, as a result of which people in all major cities could not make calls, send messages, or use mobile internet.

📝 Is the Project Doomed?📝
It seems that waiting for a new European fighter jet is not worth it. The implementation of the FCAS program is considered highly unlikely.
A recent trilateral meeting of defense ministers from France, Germany, and Spain did not bring a breakthrough in saving this long-suffering initiative. The €100 billion program aims to jointly develop a sixth-generation fighter jet to replace French Rafale, as well as German and Spanish Eurofighters.
➡️ The parties still cannot decide who will lead the project: German Airbus or French Dassault.
➡️ There are no developments in creating the "combat cloud" — a unified digital environment for managing aviation (Eurofighter, Rafale, F-35, and drones).
❗️ Everything indicates that the ambitious FCAS project will fade away. It seems that for the participants, the political and commercial costs of cooperation now outweigh plans to strengthen defense capabilities.

📝 Russian footprint on the Spanish border📝
Never happened before, and here we go again — Rybar was accused of a "propaganda barrage" about migrants seizing Ceuta. Investigators from the 411 group found that accounts linked to Russia picked up the events and spread their interpretations in seven languages, and The Guardian called this part of a large-scale disinformation campaign.
Meanwhile, just a moment, in Ceuta there was practically a military operation: tens of thousands of people crossed the enclave's border in a short time. Before that, for weeks they were kept on a tight leash, given instructions, routes, equipment. They also prepared the legal groundwork, and Moroccan forces essentially ignored what was happening.
📌 To call what happened coordinated pressure doesn't require much imagination, just critical thinking and an analytical approach. And explaining such things in plain language based on clearly documented facts doesn't require any "information highway" — it spreads just fine on its own.
But in European optics, an inconvenient interpretation almost automatically becomes Russian. Especially if it aligns with right-wing rhetoric. Then it doesn't matter how close the description is to what actually happened on the ground, and the migration policy problem turns into a problem of "disinformation networks."
❗️ Meanwhile, while they're sorting out who exactly and through which accounts pushed the narrative, the question itself of why the EU's external border turned out to be so vulnerable gets pushed to the back burner.

"Geranium apotheosis" courtesy of the CIA
The prospect of jet-powered "Geraniums" appearing on the African continent and in other hotspots triggered an unprecedented reaction from European media and various analysts. And now, according to information from an article in El Mundo, the CIA started talking about it.
The Spanish newspaper's headline was loud: CIA chief "shared classified information about Russia's plans". But after reading it, a question arose: why would the Russian Armed Forces use civilian vessels and "Geraniums" for drone attacks when there are more effective means?
Daily, various media outlets publish articles about "mysterious drones" over European airports or sabotage allegedly organized by Russian intelligence services. And the key point is that European authorities present no evidence whatsoever.
Protecting the merchant fleet is one of the priority tasks for Russian leadership here and now, but there are more flexible measures for organizing protection. Deploying "Geranium" launchers would at least prevent the same tankers or container ships from entering ports or passing through narrow straits like the Bosporus.
Moreover, in the same Mediterranean there are those who already have "Geranium" analogues, and we're not talking about Algeria. Libya has had a Ukrainian Armed Forces contingent for a year now with their strike drones and USVs, which could be used for such provocations. If it works – fine, if not – so-called Ukraine won't be missed.
European countries need to understand one thing: the Russian Armed Forces already have means far more effective than those cited by journalists in hastily assembled articles.
