🔴 The "Minimalist" and "Maximalist" Perspectives on the Time of Reappearance

✍️ By Mostafa Amiri

✅ Is collective prayer and supplication enough?

▪️ The time of reappearance is fixed and unchangeable in divine knowledge.

▪️ Mere prayer and supplication do not alter this time; other conditions for reappearance must also be met.

▪️ Sitting idly and assuming that the process of reappearance will be resolved through prayer and lamentation alone is incorrect.

▪️ Instead, through prayer and supplication, alongside fulfilling other pieces of the reappearance puzzle, we draw closer to the goal—not by bringing the time closer but by preparing ourselves.

▪️ Furthermore, the supplication for hastening the reappearance serves to maintain a connection with the Sun of Imamate, benefiting from its light and shielding believers from the tribulations of the era of occultation.

▪️ Shi'as have the duty to form a unified Shi'a front as groundwork for reappearance, a responsibility placed primarily on Iranians before the reappearance.

▪️ It is divine will that before the rise of the Sun of Supreme Guardianship, Shi'as in the geography of reappearance prepare both materially and spiritually, achieving Shi'a strength against the forces of falsehood.

▪️ When Imam Khomeini said, "We must prepare the groundwork for Imam Mahdi's reappearance," he meant establishing Shi'a strength and not merely relying on prayers. Prayers and supplications are essential but serve primarily to foster a spiritual bond with the Imam.

✅ The Voluntary Theory of Reappearance and Intergenerational Mahdism

▪️ The Mahdavi doctrine should be seen as intergenerational, where previous generations passed down authentic Shi'a teachings, culminating in the final generation's duty of groundwork preparation.

▪️ Preparing for a waiting society does not mean accelerating the time of reappearance but creating the conditions for it. The Shi'a community itself will actualize reappearance (Nahnū naṣnaʿ al-ẓuhūr).

▪️ In the past, the mindset was passive: "The savior will come to rescue us." This passive approach saw people waiting for reappearance without taking action, relying only on prayers.

▪️ However, with Imam Khomeini's revolution, the Shi'a community has been tasked with paving the way and preparing for reappearance. The Imam of our time is now waiting for us (The Master awaits us).

✅ Facilitating Conditions for Reappearance

▪️ Although the time of reappearance is fixed and unchangeable, the conditions for it must still be fulfilled. God’s planning ensures these conditions are met, such as:

The weakening of Western powers through global turmoil (Harj al-Rūm).
The formation of the Shi'a Resistance Axis led by the Iranian Revolution.
The collapse of Israel and international Zionism, the primary enemies of Imam Mahdi.
Conflicts within the Saudi ruling family, paving the way for reappearance in Mecca.

▪️ Ultimately, all the pieces of the reappearance puzzle will come together by the fixed time of reappearance.

✅ In Summary
The Voluntary Theory of Reappearance emphasizes nurturing a Shi'a society, building Shi'a strength, and preparing the groundwork for the fixed time of reappearance determined by divine knowledge.

🔹 Verse 95 — Surah An-Nisa | Wilayah and Mahdawi Elucidation 🌙 The Noble Verse “Those believers who sit [at home]—other than those who have a disability—are not equal to those who strive in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has…
🔹 Verse 96 – Surah An-Nisa | Wilayah and Mahdawi Elucidation

🌙 The Noble Verse

“[For them are] degrees [of high rank] from Him and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.” (An-Nisa, 4:96)

✍️ Wilayah Narration

✅ Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (peace be upon him) said: 💬 “When the Day of Judgment comes, Allah will add one portion of His mercy to ninety-nine other portions and shower it upon the Ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family). On that Day, the believers will be granted the power of intercession. A person will come to a believer and say, ‘Intercede for me!’ The believer will ask, ‘What right do you have over me?’ He will say, ‘One day I gave you water to drink,’ and so the believer will intercede for him and it will be accepted. Another will say, ‘You once found shade by my wall during the heat,’ and again the believer will intercede and it will be granted. This will continue until the believer intercedes for relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances. This status of intercession shows the great rank of the believer before Allah.” 📚 Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3 | Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 8

🌟 Wilayah Reflection

🔹 This verse, illuminated by Imam Ali’s narration, paints a profound image of Allah’s vast mercy and the special honor bestowed upon loyal believers.
🔹 The expansive intercession of the Shi‘a is the fruit of their attachment to the Wilayah of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them); whoever holds onto the Wilayah of Ali (a) draws the source of divine forgiveness and mercy into their own soul.
🔹 Intercession also highlights the communal spirit of faith: the Wilayah bond is not merely personal—it extends to neighbors, friends, and those connected by even the smallest act of kindness.

✨ Mahdawi Reflection

🔸 In the era of the Reappearance, the peak of these “degrees,” “forgiveness,” and “mercy” will unfold with the advent of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) and his universal reign of justice.
🔸 Then, the true believers—those who stood firm on the path of Wilayah through hardships—will be granted lofty ranks and boundless mercy.
🔸 The companions of the Imam themselves will be intercessors for others; whoever offered even the smallest help to the cause of truth will find intercession under the banner of Mahdawi justice.

✅ Wilayah and Mahdawi Conclusion

✔️ Allah bestows degrees, forgiveness, and mercy through the channel of Ahl al-Bayt’s Wilayah.
✔️ In the culture of Awaiting (Intidhar), even the smallest step on the righteous path is preserved before Allah and its reward appears in both this world and the Hereafter.
✔️ To be Shi‘a means to “live in hope of endless mercy” and “never let go of the hand of Wilayah” until we reach forgiveness and intercession.

🌟 The First Act of Rebellion: Iblis vs. Adam (AS) 🌟

Once upon a time, in the heavenly realms, God created Adam (peace be upon him). As Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) narrates, Adam remained in a sculpted form for forty years before being fully completed. During this time, Iblis, the cursed one, would pass by and murmur to himself: “For what purpose has he been created?” (Al-‘Araf 7:13; Farat al-Kufi, p.56)

When Adam was fully formed, God breathed the soul into him. As the soul reached his mind, Adam sneezed, saying “Alhamdulillah” — a moment met with God’s mercy: “May God have mercy on you” (Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq, Bihar al-Anwar, Vol.11, p.141).

Then God commanded the angels: “Prostrate before Adam”. The angels obeyed, but Iblis refused. When asked, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” he arrogantly replied:
"I am better than him; You created me from fire and created him from clay" (Al-A‘raf 7:12).

This was the first act of rebellion, and as Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq explains, pride became the root of disobedience. God then said: “Descend from here; you have no right to be arrogant here. You are among the despised” (Al-A‘raf 7:13).

Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq further clarifies that God elevated Adam above Iblis just as He granted preference to the Five Pure Ones (Ahl al-Kisa) and their true followers. Iblis would never gain authority over them or their devoted Shi’a. This exception is why the cursed one boasts that he will mislead all except God’s sincere servants (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol.5, p.42; Farat al-Kufi, p.56).

Moreover, Imam Sadiq emphasizes the peril of comparing worldly or spiritual matters with one’s own reasoning: Iblis’ first mistake was his wrongful analogy, thinking fire is superior to clay. If he had understood the divine essence within Adam, he would have recognized the greater light and purity within him (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol.11, p.147).

Even scholars like Abu Hanifa were warned against relying on personal analogy in religion, as the first comparator was Iblis himself, who erred gravely by saying: “I am better than him” (Wasail al-Shi’a, Vol.27, p.55; Bihar al-Anwar, Vol.2, p.288).

This story reminds us that obedience, humility, and sincere devotion to God are above all forms of pride and false comparison. It also connects us to the divine guidance and the chosen family of God, whose followers are protected from Iblis’ deception.

🕌 The Divine Crier: Imam Ali (AS) in the Holy Quran

📖 Quranic Foundation:
Surah Al-A'raf, Verses 44-45:

"And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of the Fire: 'We have found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?' They will say: 'Yes.' Then a crier will announce between them: 'The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.'" (44)

"Those who hinder from the path of Allah and seek to make it crooked, and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter." (45)

🌳 The Tree of "Tuba" - A Gathering Place for Shi'a

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) revealed to Miqdad ibn al-Aswad:
"Tuba is a tree in Paradise whose shade is a gathering place for the Shi'a of Amir al-Muminin Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS). They assemble there and converse together...

When they enter their homes, they find angels congratulating them on their Lord's honor. When settled, they are asked: 'Did you find your Lord's promise true?' They respond: 'Yes, our Lord! We are pleased, so be pleased with us.'

Allah says: 'Through My pleasure with you and your love for my Prophet's Household, you have entered My abode. The angels have shaken your hands - so blessed and congratulations without fear or darkness!'"

📢 The Divine Crier in the Hereafter

Multiple authentic narrations confirm:

Imam al-Kadhim (AS):
"The 'Mu'adhin' (Crier) is Amir al-Muminin (AS) who calls with an announcement heard by all creation."

Imam al-Baqir (AS):
"He is Ali (AS)."

Imam al-Sadiq (AS):
"Indeed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) is the caller, the crier, and the savior."

Amir al-Muminin (AS) himself declared:
"I am that caller. I am Allah's Adhan in this world and His Mu'adhin in the Hereafter."

🔍 Ibn Abbas's Testimony:

"Indeed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) has names in Allah's Book that people don't know. Among them, Allah named him in the Quran as 'Mu'adhin' and 'Adhan'. The verse 'Then a crier will announce between them: The curse of Allah is on the wrongdoers' - he is that crier among them, saying: 'Indeed Allah's curse is upon those who denied my guardianship and took my right lightly.'"

💎 Conclusion:

The Quranic verse "Then a crier will announce between them: The curse of Allah is on the wrongdoers" finds its ultimate manifestation in the person of Imam Ali (AS), who will serve as Allah's appointed caller on Judgment Day - announcing divine judgment upon those who rejected the Wilayah of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).

— Surah Al-Hijr (15:47)

🕊️ In the Light of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS):

Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said:

"There is not a man or woman among you [true Shi’a] except that the angels of Allah come to them with greetings of peace. And you are those about whom Allah said: '...brothers facing each other on thrones.'"
(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 65, p. 36)

Furthermore, the Imam (AS) explained:

"Every single thing has a jewel, and the jewel of the children of Adam is Muhammad (PBUH) and we [the Ahl al-Bayt], and after us, our Shi'a. How excellent are our Shi'a! How close they are to the Throne of Allah! How beautiful is Allah’s treatment of them on the Day of Resurrection!"

He continued with breathtaking spiritual insights:

· 📖 Reciting Quran in prayer while standing: 100 rewards per letter.
· 🧎‍♂️ Reciting in prayer while sitting: 50 rewards per letter.
· 🕌 Reciting outside prayer: 10 rewards per letter.
· 🤫 Even the silent among our Shi'a receive the reward of those who recite Quran from among their opponents!

The Imam (AS) added:

"By Allah, you are sleeping on your beds, yet you receive the reward of the Mujahideen (those who struggle in Allah's way). By Allah, you are praying, yet you receive the reward of those lined up in ranks in His cause."

And he reaffirmed:

"You are indeed those with four eyes: two in the head, and two in the heart—while all of creation is like this, except that Allah has opened your inner sight and blinded theirs."

---

💭 Reflection for Today:

This tradition is not merely about otherworldly rewards—it’s about identity and responsibility.
Being a true Shi’a means carrying a light within that transforms ordinary actions into worship, and everyday life into a battlefield of the soul—where patience is jihad, silence is dhikr, and faith is vision.

We are the ones promised purified hearts, freed from envy and hatred—not only in Paradise, but from now on, if we strive to live by this purity.

Let us ask ourselves today:
Are our hearts free from ghill (rancor)?
Do we see with the eyes of the heart?
Do we feel the angels’ peace around us?

— Surah Al-Hijr (15:47)

🕊️ In the Light of the Prophet (PBUH) and Ahl al-Bayt (AS):

1. The Brotherhood of the Prophet (PBUH) and Imam Ali (AS):
Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa narrated: The Prophet (PBUH) established bonds of brotherhood among the companions, leaving Imam Ali (AS) until the end. When Imam Ali (AS) expressed his sorrow, the Prophet (PBUH) said:

"By the One who sent me with the truth, your position to me is like that of Harun to Musa, except there will be no prophet after me. I only delayed you for myself—I am the Messenger of Allah, and you are my brother and my heir."

When Imam Ali (AS) asked, "What will I inherit from you?"
The Prophet (PBUH) replied: "What the previous prophets inherited: the Book of their Lord and the Sunnah of their Prophet."

Then he gave the glad tidings:
"You, O Ali, will be with me in my palace in Paradise, along with my daughter Fatima (SA), who is your wife in this world and the hereafter, and you are my companion."

And the Prophet (PBUH) recited this very verse:
إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ

"Brothers facing each other on thrones."
And explained: "Those who love each other for the sake of Allah, looking at one another (in Paradise)."

(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 38, p. 345)

---

2. The Inseparable Bond of the Shi’a with the Ahl al-Bayt (AS):
Hanan ibn Sadir asked Imam al-Sadiq (AS): "What keeps your Shi'a steadfast in your love?"

The Imam (AS) called for a white egg, boiled it, threw the shell into the fire and said:
"My father narrated from my grandfather that on the Day of Resurrection, our enemies will be thrown into the Fire like this shell."

Then he took the yolk in his palm and said:
"By Allah, we are the pure essence chosen by Allah, just as this yolk is the pure essence of the egg."

Then he took a silver ring, mixed the yolk and white together, and said:
"My father narrated from my forefathers, from the Prophet (PBUH), that on the Day of Resurrection, our Shi'a will be mixed with us like this."

He interlaced his fingers and said:
إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ

(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 65, p. 56)

---

💫 Reflection for the Heart:

These traditions reveal two profound truths:

1. Love for the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) is not emotional attachment alone—it is a covenant of brotherhood with the Prophet (PBUH) himself, sealed with Imam Ali (AS) and passed down to the true followers.
2. The Shi’a are intrinsically connected to the Imams (AS)—like the yolk to the egg, like fingers interwoven. Our faith, deeds, and destiny are intertwined with theirs. In Paradise, we will not be distant observers—we will be face to face with them, hearts purified, sitting together as brothers and sisters.

This is the ultimate fulfillment of:
"Brothers facing each other on thrones."

📖 The Verse of Divine Companionship – Surah Al-Hijr, Verse 47

وَ نَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ

"And We will remove whatever bitterness or rancor was in their hearts—(they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones."
— Surah Al-Hijr (15:47)

---

🕊️ Who Are Those “Brothers Upon Thrones”?

1. Ibn Abbas (RA) narrates:
This verse was revealed concerning:
Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), Hamzah, Ja’far, Aqeel, Abu Dharr, Salman, Ammar, Miqdad, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them all).
(Shawahid al-Tanzil, Vol. 1, p. 413)

They were the embodiments of brotherhood in faith—free from jealousy, united in love, facing one another in dignity, both in this world and the next.

---

2. The Prophet’s (PBUH) Promise to Imam Ali (AS):
Once, Imam Ali (AS) asked the Prophet (PBUH): “O Messenger of Allah, who is more beloved to you—me or Fatimah (SA)?”

The Prophet (PBUH) replied:
“Fatimah is more beloved to me than you, but you are more precious to me than her.”

Then he gave a vision of the Hereafter:
“I see you at my Ḥawḍ (Pool of Kawthar), driving away certain people. And upon it are cups like the number of stars in the sky.”

Then he named the heavenly gathering:
“You, Hasan, Husayn, Fatimah, Aqeel, and Ja’far will be in Paradise as brothers upon thrones, facing each other.”

And he added:
“You will be with me, and your Shi’a will be in Paradise.”

Then the Prophet (PBUH) recited the verse again and explained:
“In such a way that none of them looks at the back of another.”
—Meaning: there will be no hierarchy of status in sight; only mutual love, honor, and direct connection.

(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 36, p. 72)

---

💎 The Ultimate Vision:

This final part reveals who embodies this verse in its truest form:
The Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and their closest companions—those who lived and died in brotherhood, free from jealousy, filled with divine love.

And we, the Shi’a, are promised to join them—not as distant followers, but as brothers and sisters, sitting with them on thrones, heart to heart, gaze to gaze, in the eternal gardens of Paradise.

---

🌺 Our Takeaway:

Let us strive to remove ghill (rancor) from our hearts today—to love sincerely, forgive readily, and unite under the banner of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).
For our destination is not only Paradise—it is sitting with them, facing them, as honored brothers and sisters in the highest companionship.

May Allah make us among those described in this noble verse. 🤲
