The IMO has formally confirmed the use of Bunker Delivery Notes (BDNs) in electronic format as an acceptable alternative to the conventional hard copy, as long as they conform to the regulations of MARPOL Annex VI.

This follows the 80th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee, which agreed an additional unified interpretation to regulations 18.5 and 18.6 of MARPOL Annex VI concerning BDNs. IMO Releases Updated Fuel Oil Sampling Guidelines. IMO has revised the fuel oil sampling guidelines for verifying compliance with MARPOL Annex VI and SOLAS Chapter II-2.
The updated guidelines expand the use of the MARPOL Delivered Sample to include verification of the flashpoint requirement under SOLAS Regulation II-2/4.2.1.The new circular supersedes the previous MEPC Resolution 182(59), known as the ‘2009 Guidelines for sampling fuel oil for determining compliance with the revised MARPOL Annex VI’ #LR #Fuel #Sampling #Guidelines

LR: New Guidelines for SEEMP Part III
Company Audits.To comply with MARPOL Annex VI, ships of 5,000GT and above must have on board a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), Part III of which provides the information to assess the operational carbon intensity (CII) of the ship, reports Lloyd’s Register. Regulation 26.3.3 of Annex VI requires a SEEMP Part III to be subject to periodical company audits that should be undertaken at least every three years.

New MARPOL Fuel Reporting Rules
Effective August 2025.Effective from 1 August 2025, new regulations require ships to collect and report additional
fuel oil consumption data.
IMO Resolution MEPC.385(81) invites flag States to apply these amendments voluntarily starting 1 January 2025.
The IACS and IMO agree that data collection should align with a full calendar year, with additional data collection starting 1 January 2026 for ships already collecting data.
