๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พ Syria has returned to the Arab League and has renewed diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia as well as other Arab countries. Jordan has presented an Arab initiative for peace in Syria which follows the UN security council resolution 2254.

However, this has not translated into any economic help for the Syrian people living under the Damascus administration, who are mainly focused on just survival alone after the countryโ€™s economy has collapsed. There is still no hope for economic recovery or reconstruction.

Saudi Arabia, oil-rich Gulf nations, and other Arab nations have not been able to help Syria because of the U.S.-EU sanctions in place which prevent any money or products to be sent to Syria, other than humanitarian aid in the wake of the earthquake. Without foreign investment or donations to rebuild Syria, the economy will remain at a standstill, and no jobs will be created for Syrians desperate for an income. The sinking boats full of economic migrants in the Mediterranean Sea are a direct result of the U.S.-EU sanctions which keep the Syrians starving and desperate to help their families.

The migrant tragedies at sea are a direct result of the U.S.-EU sanctions which strangle the Syrian people and prevent them from recovery at home ๐Ÿ˜ข

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พ A power struggle in the eastern Syrian desert might end with the U.S. withdrawal from Syria, as the occupation allies battle each other for power and lucrative energy resources.

If the U.S. occupation of Syria is depending on not only the SDF as allies, but the Arab tribes as well, then the Pentagon might need a re-think of their position: their alliances are crumbling like sand in the desert ๐Ÿœ๏ธ

๐ŸŽ™ Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovโ€™s interview with TASS news agency (December 30, 2024)

Key points:

#Ukraine #USA

โ€ข We have not received any official signals [from the USA] regarding a settlement in Ukraine.

โ€ข We are not happy with the proposals made by members of the Trump team to postpone Ukraineโ€™s admission to NATO for 20 years and to station British and European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

โ€ข What we need is reliable and legally binding agreements that would eliminate the root causes of the conflict and seal a mechanism precluding the possibility of their violation.

#RussiaUSA #NATO

โ€ข We are ready to renew the political dialogue which Washington terminated after the start of the special military operation, if the United States is ready for this. Since it was the Americans who cut it off, it is for them to make the first move.

โ€ข They [the West] have been long relying on efforts to interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries, including our closest neighbours, as their foreign policy tool. For many years, Washington and its satellites have been acting this way in an effort to deter and contain their geopolitical rivals and do away with any unwanted actors, as confirmed by what happened in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine.

#Georgia

โ€ข The developments in Georgia stem from the double standards when caring for democracy and human rights serves as a pretext for overturning election results after even the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights with its tainted reputation recognised the election as being free and fair. Why do they want to change the results? Just because the puppet masters in Washington and Brussels did not find the way people voted there to their liking.

โ€ข The United States and the European Union are trying to impose a distorted vision on Tbilisi which consists of dividing everyone into those who are with us and those who are against us. Meanwhile, it seems that Georgian authorities have opted for a sovereign policy which meets the countryโ€™s national interests. They refuse to act as pawns manipulated by the West in its effort to destabilise Georgia, undermine its economy and incite escalation in its relations with Russia.

#Syria #MiddleEast

โ€ข The Syriansโ€™ hopes for improvements after a convincing defeat of international terrorism, including with the help of Russiaโ€™s Aerospace Forces, have not materialised.

โ€ข Washington, which has effectively occupied the resource-rich north-eastern part of Syria and is putting serious sanctions pressure on Damascus together with a coalition of its satellites, bears a great deal of blame for this. This line for strangling the Syrian economy stirred up social discontent.

โ€ข Trying to maintain its influence [in the Middle East and North Africa], Washington actively interfered in the internal affairs of Arab countries and aggressively drew new dividing lines there. Iraq and Libya are still trying to clear up the consequences of the Americans and their satellitesโ€™ reckless behaviour.

#China

โ€ข The Americans are taking inciting actions in the Taiwan Strait and supplying weapons to Taipei while forging a quasi-political dialogue with the local authorities.

โ€ข It is clear to us that this policy pursued by Washington in violation of its obligations to Beijing on Taiwan is part of their strategy to step up military and political pressure on the PRC and eventually undermine regional security at the eastern end of the Eurasian continent.

โ€ข Russia reaffirms its adherence to the #OneChina principle, recognises that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China, opposes any form of โ€œTaiwan independence,โ€ and firmly supports Chinaโ€™s measures to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieve national reunification.

๐Ÿ“Gas Somewhere on the Road๐Ÿ“

There is not much time left before the heating season, and European gas storage facilities are filled to only about 58โ€“60%. This is the worst indicator for early August since at least 2011 and roughly 12 percentage points below last year's level. Meanwhile, the seasonal norm is around 82%.

Credit goes to the architects of "energy independence": they severed the usual pipeline connections, bet on spot LNG โ€” but it turned out this gas is needed not only by Europeans.

Although European countries receive about 7% of LNG through the Strait of Hormuz, the problem lies in market mechanics. Roughly a fifth of global liquefied gas supplies pass through the strait, primarily from Qatar. When the route became unsafe, it was not "someone's" gas that disappeared, but the flexible volume that kept the global market in balance.

Thus, injection into European storage facilities slowed down precisely when it needed to accelerate. In March, the European Commission asked countries to inject gas as early as possible, but simultaneously effectively softened the storage facility filling target: instead of 90% by November 1, it allowed 80%, and in some cases โ€” 75%.

At the same time, the Suez Canal creates a second level of vulnerability. A tanker going around Africa spends more fuel, time, and money on insurance; the fleet makes fewer trips, and each shipment becomes more expensive.

๐Ÿ“ŒIt turns out that Europeans abandoned the relatively predictable pipeline model without creating either sufficient reserves, or a cheap alternative, or protected logistics. Now the security of European storage facilities depends on Hormuz, Suez, weather, Asian demand, and the willingness of American traders to sell LNG.

Formally this is diversification, but in essence โ€” energy on outsourcing with an alarm button in the Persian Gulf.

๐Ÿ“The Chemical Front of Hormuz๐Ÿ“

Problems with filling European gas storage facilities and the methanol market โ€” different stories, but the mechanism is the same. Europeans abandoned predictable supplies and now depend on global logistics, where any conflict quickly gets added to the bill.

Theoretically, the EU's dependence on Middle Eastern methanol looks moderate. In 2025, European countries imported about 6.3 million tons of the product, with only 4% coming from Middle Eastern states. The USA supplied 38% of deliveries, Trinidad and Tobago โ€” another 25%.

But the market reacted to the loss of volumes that balanced global trade: the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz limited 18โ€“20 million tons of annual Middle Eastern export capacity. From February 28 to March 20, the spot price of methanol for Europe rose from approximately โ‚ฌ299 to โ‚ฌ432 per ton โ€” by 47%. In early May, it reached โ‚ฌ545 per ton.

The EU restructured its purchases: in May, 32.3% of external imports came from Trinidad and Tobago, 21.7% โ€” from the USA, another 21% โ€” from Egypt. Supplies from Saudi Arabia collapsed by 76.4%, from Oman โ€” by 92.7%; Norway and Azerbaijan partially compensated for the shortfall, increasing shipments by 51.7% and 61.5%. But the result remains negative: for Januaryโ€“May, methanol imports to the EU fell by 13.8% year-on-year.

๐Ÿ“ŒOther sensitive supplies also suffered: for example, ammonia, urea and other raw materials without which plastics, solvents, paints, fertilizers and thousands of goods on supermarket shelves are not produced. And if manufacturers are deprived of cheap chemical raw materials โ€” industry itself will begin to curtail production, jobs and investments.
