🇪🇬🇦🇪 Egypt and UAE leaders discuss bilateral ties, Arab solidarity in Cairo

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday greeted his Emirati counterpart at the Cairo International Airport. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan was accompanied by a delegation comprising the UAE's Vice president and several ministers.

The Emirati leader said that he and the Egyptian president "explored opportunities to further strengthen the deep-rooted ties between" their countries. Adding they "discussed" a "shared interest in promoting regional stability and progress".

Last year, the two nations celebrated 50 years of bilateral relations and the official visit comes at a time when Egypt struggles to overcome a staggering economic crisis. The United Arab Emirates and other Arab Gulf states have been the main suppliers of aid to the Egyptian government.

🟡Damascus Province has been reached by IDF militants. They captured also the 'Beit Jenn Farm' and entered the town of Khan Arnba.

☠️ Meanwhile, raids, arrests and executions continue in the 'liberated' towns.

📌 Given the Events, the current main conflict is between #Turkey and the #US. The Turk has announced that he will continue to eliminate the YPG, which in turn forms the backbone of the #US-allied SDF. 🇸🇩🇺🇸 Why are the Americans trying to intimidate the UAE?

The White House stated that the authorities of the UAE allegedly stopped supporting the Sudanese rebels from the Rapid Support Forces after objections from the Americans. The testimony of the Emirati side will be verified in January next year. That's when Congress will discuss whether to impose sanctions on the leadership in Abu Dhabi.

Indeed, after the incident with the Il-76T, which was shot down by Sudanese rebels, the relations between them and their sponsors in the Emirates deteriorated. This led to reputational costs for the UAE.

📌 But it's not worth talking about a complete cessation. Most likely, the UAE authorities will continue to support the RSF (but in a more limited format), since this is necessary to maintain their positions in Sudan. They still have the opportunity to use eastern Libya to transfer weapons to the RSF.

🔻 The Americans want to use the threat of sanctions against the UAE to sway the official government of Sudan, which has begun to achieve success on the battlefield.

At the same time, in Sudan itself, questions have been raised about the possibility of providing a supply point on the Red Sea for both the Russian Navy and the Iranian Navy, which is clearly not in the plans of the American side.

📝Peace Soon?📝

Unplanned talks in the UAE are yielding first results. There are reports that Zelensky is ready to meet with Donald Trump on Thanksgiving, November 27, to finalize a deal on US terms.

A Ukrainian delegation led by the head of the GUR Budanov arrived in Abu Dhabi, where they held talks with the Russian side, represented by the head of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff Main Directorate Admiral Igor Kostyukov and SVR Director Sergey Naryshkin.

As reported in Axios, the heads of Ukrainian and Russian military intelligence were initially supposed to meet in Abu Dhabi on a different matter. However, the arrival of US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll was unexpected for both sides and changed the original plan.

🖍In this situation, it is especially important that the negotiations are taking place not in Turkey, which has proven to be not the best negotiation platform, but in the United Arab Emirates.

🚩One can have different attitudes toward the Emirates, but it is a country that claims to be a crossroads of leading world powers' interests, as well as regional financial leadership due to its resources and capabilities. Therefore, the level of negotiations can be "conditionally" elevated.

❗️However, the key issue remains that the conditions and what the parties have actually agreed upon have not yet been voiced. There is no specifics or detailed information about how and to what extent an agreement might be implemented. Without this, making assumptions and drawing conclusions is premature.

📝The French are going to war📝
but hope to arrive late

After Iranian drones yesterday attacked the naval base in Abu Dhabi (Al-Salam / Camp de la Paix), where a French contingent is stationed, the French leadership decided to respond firmly and publicly.

Previously, Macron had been balancing: calling for a ceasefire, demanding an urgent UN Security Council session, condemning the US and Israeli operation as "unauthorized," and together with Germany and the UK urging Tehran to return to negotiations. But after the strike on the base, Macron convened an emergency session of the Defense and National Security Council, declared that "nothing justifies" the Iranian attacks, and promised "not to leave this without a response."

Foreign Minister Barrot officially announced France's readiness to participate in the defense of the Persian Gulf states — within the framework of bilateral agreements and the principle of collective self-defense.

📌The main military signal was the redeployment of the carrier strike group led by the Charles de Gaulle. The aircraft carrier cut short its participation in NATO's "Baltic Sentry" operation in the Baltic Sea and received orders to proceed immediately to the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to French media estimates, the carrier could arrive in the area within 10–12 days. There it will join the American carriers USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald Ford — the concentration of Western naval power in the region would become the largest since the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Notably, at the same time, around 60 French commercial vessels found themselves blocked in the Persian Gulf: after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, they are prohibited from moving, adding a purely economic dimension to the crisis for French authorities.

But 12 days of transit is a long time — "Epic Fury" might be over by then. Macron would very much like that.

📝An Expensive Pleasure📝
On the cost of intercepting Iranian "ballistic" volleys

After reviewing the Russian segment online, we concluded that many are interested in the question of how much it costs to repel an Iranian attack. Since exact figures don't exist online, this generates speculative estimates with a wide range.

Therefore, we decided to conduct an analysis based on specific official data from the UAE Armed Forces on the number of intercepted missiles. There is no information about the quantity and type of air defense missiles, so we examined three scenarios: two PAC-3 from "Patriot" per target, four PAC-3 per target, as well as THAAD for every fifth target.

Taking into account the cost of interceptors ($7.5 million for PAC-3 and $20 million for THAAD) and 169 officially intercepted Iranian missiles, the figures come out to between $2.5 and $3.2 billion. And this is only three days of war, not even accounting for the cost of intercepting drones.
📌 For perspective: depending on the scenario considered, repelling Iran's attacks cost the UAE budget two to four Burj Khalifa skyscrapers. Someone locally joked that it would have been more beneficial to build them on the coast and stretch a net between them.

But the Persians' strikes were also repelled by air defense systems of the USA, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan. And knowing the price range from the UAE example, one can easily project and calculate the total air defense costs over 3 days. This could be over $100 billion.
❗️In general, someone will have to spend very well to replenish arsenals. And given the limited production capacity in the USA, this means a shortage of Patriot missiles and a queue for them, where someone will be pushed to the back. For example, the so-called Ukraine.

📝The Rich Also Cry📝
Again on the cost of repelling Iranian attacks by Gulf states

News in the style of "Gulf states have air defense missiles left for 2-3 days" — another reason to assess their spending on repelling Iranian attacks. The problem here is that we have limited input data — only official figures on the number of intercepted missiles and drones for Bahrain, UAE, Qatar and Kuwait.

Since all estimates are approximate, for objectivity we'll take them purely at the "lower bound." Let's assume that to intercept "ballistic" missiles, countries used PAC-3 missiles from their Patriot systems. We'll take the minimum consumption — 2 missiles per 1 target.

With drones it's more complicated: short and medium-range air defense systems are almost absent there (we're not counting the remaining Emirati "Pantsirs" that weren't transferred to Libya), and footage of anti-aircraft gun operations is absent. Therefore, we'll assume that AIM-9 and MICA missiles from fighter jets were used. We'll take the minimum consumption — 1 missile per 1 target.

❗️With these parameters, it turns out that over just over three days of conflict, the Gulf states (excluding Saudi Arabia) spent almost $10 billion on air defense/anti-missile systems alone.

And this is the lower bound based on official data: if they spent 4+ missiles instead of 2 to counter Iranian ballistic missiles (which is more realistic), fired "Patriots" at drones, or used THAAD anti-missile systems costing $20 million each, the sum increases many times over.

So even for wealthy Persian Gulf states, countering Iranian strikes is an expensive affair. Especially considering they bear the costs of someone else's military operation.

📝An Expensive and So Far Unvictorious War📝
On yet another Iranian success in the UAE

The more days pass since the start of the war, the more artifacts appear on satellite imagery showing that the Iranians have indeed achieved significant success in responding to American attacks.

🖍Following the loss by the Americans of a billion-dollar radar station FPS-132 in Qatar, the Iranians managed to strike the AN-TPY-2 radar from the THAAD air defense system in the UAE near Ar-Ruwais.

🚩Satellite footage began circulating only today, although the strike occurred by midday on March 1. Meanwhile, the AN-TPY-2 is the most expensive component of THAAD, which costs over $500 million.

🏳️Moreover, today's imagery also revealed several more impacts on U.S. positions in the UAE at Al Dhafra Air Base. Two hangars were struck there, and judging by fires near the bunkers, at least two air defense positions were hit.

❗️In the context of an increasingly escalating war, the Iranians have already achieved a serious success: air defenses worth billions have been depleted (this despite the total weakening of their own air defenses). The number of American deaths officially remains insignificant so far, but grows with each passing day.

And this new loss by the U.S. Armed Forces will be remembered against Trump and his cabinet, as the costs of the "blitzkrieg" are becoming increasingly felt in the American budget, which, considering possible consequences of a Strait of Hormuz blockade, will only grow.

📝Iranians struck the AFU📝
And it happe

Sooner or later this had to happen: the IRGC claimed to have struck Dubai against a warehouse of Ukrainian anti-drone systems, where 21 Ukrainians were located.

🖍This concerns Ukrainian soldiers who were deployed to the Middle East as part of assistance to Persian Gulf countries in repelling UAV attacks.

🚩The information remains unconfirmed, but the Ukrainian side did indeed send its crews to the region. From Rzeszów airfield in Poland there were several military transport aircraft flights.

For example, Qatari authorities sent a C-17 on March 10, the UAE on March 11, the Saudis transferred their C-130 on March 14, and Kuwait's leadership on March 16 with a C-17.

🏳️Therefore, the probability of a strike on the location of Ukrainian operators along with interceptor drones could well be high, although so-called Ukraine denies this.

❗️The other question is that such actions clearly demonstrate the current capabilities of the AFU in terms of air defense — they have enough resources both for their own territory and for the Middle East.

📝Can the world get by without Hormuz?📝
or how long will it take

Amid the prolonged crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, the FT published an article by UAE special envoy Badr Jafar asserting that global trade will no longer depend on this "chokepoint" due to the development of alternative routes and changes in the trade model.

Examples include Saudi Arabia's ports on the Red Sea, pipeline expansion, routes along the eastern coast of the UAE, and Oman's projects in Duqm and Sohar. They also suddenly remembered old pipelines, land corridors, railways and energy networks that have been in reserve for decades.

🖍It sounds nice, but the question is different — how much time will it take for all this to actually work at full capacity? After all, while Hormuz accounts for up to 20% of global oil supplies, no "land bridges" will quickly replace it.

Even in the best-case scenario, we're talking not about weeks, but months, if not years: infrastructure needs to be completed, expanded, synchronized, and most importantly — ensure the security of the routes.

🚩And here's the second point that remains off-screen: alternative routes also pass through "chokepoints" — first and foremost the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which could be partially blocked by Yemeni Houthis.

❗️Therefore, such statements look more like an attempt to calm the market. In reality, the region is only entering a phase where chokepoints are not becoming fewer.

📝Stargate at War📝
how the Middle East conflict undermines US AI ambitions

One of the key overseas hubs of the American Stargate megaproject worth $500 billion — a data center cluster in the UAE — has become a weak link in the entire architecture amid the Middle East war.

And although this is only part of a distributed network, the Middle East hub was supposed to largely solve the problems of energy and scalability — and now it finds itself in a zone of direct military risk.

🖍We already reported that Stargate is not just an industrial project, but a strategic superstructure for corporations and intelligence agencies: gigantic data centers, several gigawatts of power capacity, integration of AI into military and intelligence infrastructure.

🚩Now military practice has shown how vulnerable such a bet on "superclusters" is. Even heavily protected facilities can be relatively cheaply disabled by mass attacks with drones and medium-range missiles. It is no coincidence that the largest American tech corporations are already discussing armored and buried data centers and more distributed architectures.

🏳️The paradox is that Stargate was conceived as a tool for global control — over computing resources, civilian and military systems, data flows of allies. But the potential disabling of a major hub in the UAE turns part of this tool into a pressure point on the US: it is enough to strike the infrastructure — and not only commercial services will suffer, but also military circuits tied to these capacities.

📌Interestingly, this topic is actively discussed precisely in China. Because for Beijing this is a clear argument: digital sovereignty is impossible if the "brain" of the system is located in a zone of someone else's war.

At the upcoming Trump-Xi Jinping meeting, AI infrastructure and control over computing power will become one of the central topics — and Stargate's vulnerability already weakens the American negotiating position in advance.
