😳 8 March 2020. Italy goes in total lockdown for the first time in its history! I remember my last guest who left just the day before and was able to catch the last flight back home before all airports shut down πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’“βœˆοΈ πŸ˜…
The world soon changed for everyone of us and we all got used to words like virus, pandemic, social distancing, #quarantine... Yes, Quarantine: do you know that this word is Venetian? Venice was the first city in the world to invent and implement "Quarantena" (which stands for "40 days"). This dates back in Medieval times due to the frequent plagues that threatened the city. Venice was the biggest port of the world and every ship (with its crew) that came from abroad was forced to stay 40 days "parked" in one of the numerous islands of the #Lagoon, to prevent the spread of illnesses unknown to the city. This of course didn't work all the time, because the hygiene standards were rather poor and plagues spread frequently, but the Quarantena practice saved many lives for sure and was adopted by all countries in the world as a standard of health control.
I post a video of my Venice Quarantine Tour across the Lagoon, anyone can enjoy with me when here πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ

πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ¨19 April 1768. Giovanni Antonio Canal, worldwide known as Canaletto leaves this world in Venice, aged 70.
He was an Italian painter from the Republic of Venice, considered one the most important "vedutisti" of the 18th-century. Thanks to his "vedute", views of Venice, the world knew how it was the city on the Lagoon during its splendour, thus enticing and paving the way to dreamers and travelers who desperately wanted to come and see in person this amazing beauty! Many of his paintings were sold in fact to Englishmen on their Grand Tour.
Canaletto lived mainly in Venice and painted the city from all corners and from the windows and palaces of the noblemen who were eager to #host him.
He also lived in Rome and London where he painted city views too.
Today we can admire his paintings in all the most famous museums of the world.
If there was a photographer and beauty ambassador of Venice in 18th century, his name would be for sure #Canaletto! ❀️

πŸŒ…πŸ“Έ There's a secret island between Venice and #Mestre which comes alive every year in this period... where the bay is calm, the food is great, the cats are free and the sun "weeps" through the willow... surrounded by reminiscences of past wars.

🎼14 May 196... Happy Birthday πŸ₯³πŸΎ to Mr. Alex Masi, born and raised in Venice, living in Los Angeles since 1987, simply one of the best #guitarist in the worldπŸ”πŸŽΈ
He started here in Venice in early 80s when he put up with friends a seminal Heavy⚑️Metal Band, #DarkLord.
He was soon noticed for his guitar skills and moved to #LosAngeles where he first became a protagonist in the city's hair metal scene with his own band #Masi.
After his 1989 highly praised and Best Rock Instrumental Grammy nominated first solo album, Alex became a true Guitar Hero! He developed his mastery on the following decades embracing all music genres, from Neo Classical to Fusion, always keeping his original Heavy Metal background and attitude alive 🎸πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

In the picture☝️#AlexMasi with my guest Kira, we met him a couple of years ago here in Venice, on the πŸ‘‰ Secret Island. They both live in #California and they met here: it's a small world πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ƒ
I post in the Chat RoomπŸ‘‡ some crazy Masi stuff, enjoy! 🀟 #VeniceMusic #14May #myguests

πŸŒ…πŸ–πŸΉHaving hosted hundreds, I perfectly know the one thing every traveler is desperately in search for when in #Italy: living La Dolce Vita for a while... like locals do.
Can you think of any place in the world where you can visit in the morning St. Mark and #Rialto, and later enjoy your lunch in a green island 🌳 with an amazing view on the Lagoon like #SantElena, and later walk along the seaside on the #Lido beaches... for miles until its end... and later enjoy your Aperitivo at the #Alberoni while waiting for your boat sailing the amazing South Lagoon back to St. Mark, and later enjoy the sunset on your boat along the Grand Canal !!!
Yes, you can actually live La Dolce Vita in Venice... possibly in summertime, possibly with me πŸ˜‰

πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ¨5 October 1712. Francesco Guardi, one of the most famous Venetian painters was born in Venice.
Francesco Lazzaro Guardi was a nobleman and a member of the Venetian School. He is considered to be among the last practitioners of the classic Venetian school of painting.
He is famous for his "vedute" (views) but differently from those of his contemporary and much more famous #Canaletto which are like a proper photography, his #VeniceViews are evanescent and almost unreal.
It looks like the paintings of #Guardi met the music of his contemporary #Vivaldi: Venice at the peak of its magic!
Not many works of #FrancescoGuardi are held in Venice, the most famous ones are exhibited in other Italian and international museums: like the 3 in the above pictures☝️ which are visitable in Modena Galleria Estense, Paris Louvre, Bergamo Accademia Carrara.
His portrait was made by another great Venetian artist, #PietroLonghi and is held inside the Ca' Rezzonico 1700 Museum in Venice.

πŸŽΌπŸŽΈπŸ“Έ That's where I'll be next weekend.

Every summer in Forte Marghera
(πŸ‘‰ The Secret Island), 15 minutes away from #VeniceRocksRoom, a local charity fundraising organizes a free picture exhibition + concerts in memory of Alex Ruffini who passed away in June 2019.
#AlexRuffini was one of the most known and appreciated photographers in the Hard Rock⚑️Heavy Metal scene... and he came from Venice 🀟

"Through all the happiness and sorrow
I guess I'd do it all again
Live for today and not tomorrow
It's still the road that never ends

The wreckage of my past keeps haunting me
It just won't leave me alone
I still find it all a mystery
Could it be a dream?
The road to nowhere leads to me"
